Same weight for 7 days
chasingpolaris321 replied to RnYMike's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally normal! You're experiencing the dreaded three week stall. I had bypass on 9/1 and am going through the same thing. Our bodies just need a chance to catch up. And as many people will tell you, you are likely still losing fat and going down in clothing sizes even if the scale is stuck. Hang in there! We just have to stick to our plans -

Folks - please search this site for posts on the three week stall. There are thousands of postings on it because almost everyone experiences it. Bariatric centers should be telling their patients about this so they don't freak out (ours does....). Just stick to your program and stay off the damn scale for a few days. The weight loss WILL start up again! -

I had a three week stall that started at week 3. -
As someone said the three weeks stall happens to almost everybody I'm 3 weeks out as well and I've been reading how important it is to try to increase your calorie intake and keep on taking your protein shakes and water those are the keys to success. Harder for some than others. In my case I'm feeling great but I avoid the scale because I know we're all curious but I'm trying my hardest to do it once a month 2 the most because it happens to all of us at some point. Down worry it will get better

Everyone has the three week stall... or almost. It's normal for our body to say "Hey, wait a minute here!" and take a break from losing... and it doesn't only happen at 3 weeks. I've had a couple of stalls in 9 months, and one spot where my weight loss was incredibly slow. BUT, and it's a big But, during the stalls is when I've lost inches and sizes. I walked out of my pants during my first stall, and I've watched my body reshape itself literally during the last 3 months of super slow weight loss (compared to weight lost at the beginning). Just this morning I noticed that my tummy has changed shape completely in the last few weeks. Keep to your plan during the stalls. Eat your Protein and drink your Water. Change up your exercise and either add or remove something. I changed from the recumbent bike to the elliptical and I'm going to add in the arc (killer elliptical) in a few days, just for some variety. Most importantly, ditch that lying scale from your brain. Take your measurements and then re-take them when you feel like you're stalled. Watch the inches come off your body and enjoy living this new life and journey that we're all taking. Good luck! I know you're going to do fine!

The best way to get the scale moving is diet, exercise, and patience. Nearly all of us hit the three week stall (give or take a week). Believe me, you have no where to go from here but down. :-)

Scared I'm recovering too fast...
catwoman7 replied to XtinaDoesIt's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
not sure why you're complaining - I think we'd all love an easy recovery! (and many of us do have them). It sounds like you're progressing normally. No reason to go back to protein shakes only if you're not having any issues. almost everyone has their first major stall during the first month or so after surgery. We even have a name for it - "the three-week stall" (because it's usually the third week, but not always. It can be the second week or the fifth week). It'll last for 1-3 weeks. Just stick to your program and it WILL break. You will likely hit a few of these on your journey. I had a very easy recovery and was able to progress quickly, like you. I ended up losing all of my excess weight. So you're fine. -
3 Weeks Post Op and Not Just a Stall...
meggiep replied to susnl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to our three week stall! There is a time honored tradition before this of a stall right now so we are in good company! I am right there with you girl- either up a pound the down a pound and a half then up a pound again- basically stalled this past three days and I refuse to worry- I am getting 80 grams of protein a day, 64 plus ounces of water, and 500-700 calories. I'll up my water and exercise and just keep on keeping on. I am disappointed of course, but I lost 18 pounds on my 2 week pre-op and 12 pounds since and I am sure my body has to figure out what is going on and i will start losing again. So will you! -
Weight loss stall 3 weeks after sleeve?
catwoman7 replied to erica1030's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yep - it's the infamous three week stall - right on time! Happens to probably 90% of us. If you do a search for it on this site, you will find over 17,000 posts on it (as of yesterday when I looked, 17, 501 to be exact. And no, I am NOT kidding..) -
It is very common to have a stall at the stage you're at. Most people experience their stall between weeks two and three after the surgery, but for some it doesn't hit until four or five weeks out. You are actually only about 3.5 weeks out so I'd say you are in the normal three week stall so don't panic! I would say at this early stage you might want to consider one protein shake a day. I agree that it's best to get most of your protein from real food, but you are still really early out so one shake a day should help you keep your protein to recommended levels. Don't worry, the weight will come off when it's ready to.

Ho everyone. It's been a wild ride since surgery on May 9th. Here are the stats. HW - 380 Started process at - 365 SW - 351 CW- 298 What I've learned: Surgery was tough but not nearly as bad as I feared. No pain ever really but had bouts of nausea and acid that were pretty trying but well worth it. This takes time! The exhaustion for the first six weeks was pretty bad but I learned to just plug along. Rest when needed! My sleeve is the boss of me! A couple of times I ate compulsively and I paid the price! A good learning tool to eat thoughtfully! Plan meals and sit down to eat. I've learned to eat when I'm hungry and not when I'm not. Focus on Protein first! I can do so much more even though I've suffered a pretty severe knee injury. I walk a minimum of 10k steps a day. Take a longish walk every night and ride a bike three miles per day. Weigh yourself as often as you like but don't obsess about numbers! The three week stall sucked but after two weeks of stall - whoosh! Five pounds gone in a day! The scale can suck! One day at the end of my stall I actually went UP 10 pounds. Then a few days later was down nearly ten! Could be Water weight or constipation just ride it out! The constipation can be a killer! Take miralax, stool softener a or whatever surgeon recommends if you suffer from this! Tell people if you want don't if you don't! This is a personal process and sharing can be good sometimes but not so others. Get help when you need help! Come here to BP and don't be afraid to call surgeon or NUT for support! All in all I feel great! I can do things I never could have done before! Being under 300 is like being a kid again and I'm going to enjoy every moment. I wish I'd have done this when I was 30! Best to all of you. This is truly life changing!

15 pounds?
DreamLife36 replied to DallasMomofTwins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well let me tell you.... When I hit the 3 week mark, I didn't move for 2 weeks. Even my Dr. told me that my weighloss sucked. But after reading about the "three week stall" I came to the conclusion that my body was just in shock and needed time to chatch up. I continued with my diet and after 2 weeks and TOM I started moving down again. So dont be suprised if you don't loose as fast around TOM and during the 3 week mark. Keep your chin up, stick with the diet, only weigh yourself once per week and you will be fine. -
Stopped losing weight
Sosewsue61 replied to Rose400491's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The 'dreaded three week stall' - is very common - just hang in there and keep following the plan. We don't lose every week or in a linear fashion. 31 pounds is awesome so far. -
My stats are dang close to yours as well... 5'6.5" SW/Surgery Weight: 271 (no pre op diet) Surgery Date 12/2 Current weight: 188 Goal: 150ish I run three days a week and do power yoga or pilates 2/3 days. Have even thinking of adding a personal trainer as well. I typically get 540-700 cals a day usually, 60-75g Protein and 64oz+ of Water. I have had three stalls so far...the three week stall, one about a month ago and one now. I totally hear you!!!! To get out of my last stall I tried upping my calories which many advised and nada. I went back to Protein Shakes only for two days and bang! Out of the stall. Tried that this time and no such luck. Thinking about trying to up them for a few days and trying to get 800-1000. Would love to hear what worked for others too!

3 Week freakout (post-op)
ShoppGirl replied to Donna4545's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This thread is really old but some new folks say they are having similar issues so I will reply. The three week stall is so common. It can honestly happen before or after but usually it’s right around three weeks. If you do a search on this site you will see how often it is talked about. Rest assured. The weight loss will pick back up. Just stick to your plan. -
So I am 3 weeks out from surgery and have read up enough on this site to realize that I am right in the middle of the dreaded "THREE WEEK STALL"!!!!! I am so thankful for all of you that have written about this because at least I know to expect it and to embrace it :-) But I am curious how long you have all stalled for? Currently I have been the same weight for one week. I hope it breaks soon and my weight starts going down. I know we are all different but I am just curious what the duration of the stalls have been you have experienced.

What am I doing wrong? Did I make a mistake?
catwoman7 replied to Mark P3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
the infamous three-week stall. Almost everyone goes through their first major stall sometime during the first month after surgery (it's usually the third week, hence the name, but it can really occur any time that month). If you do a search on this site about it, you'll find something like 17,000 posts on it. And no, I am NOT kidding. Just stick to your plan and stay off the scale for a few days if you need to - and rest assured that it WILL break. most of us hit several of these stalls along our weight loss journey. I think it's your body's way of recalibrating before it moves on. They typically last 1-3 weeks, and as long as you just stick to your plan, they WILL break. My three-week stall was weeks 2 & 3. During week 4, it broke and I lost like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days. So hold tight! btw - I just did the search for you. We're up to 17,501 posts on this topic: https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three week stall -
