SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
*Lexie* replied to Rovobay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my first post op appt today and it went really well. I started puree a few days early because I was so hungry and weak on just liquids. They were completely fine with it and told me to progress as I feel comfortable. What a relief to hear that versus them being really strict on following the time table. I know their goal is to get their patients on regular food as quickly as it's safely possible. Otherwise, I'm down 13lbs in 12 days since surgery. There's not a universe that I could complain about weight loss like that. I'm curious when that three week stall will start. At the start of the 3rd week or after 3 weeks. Either way, I'm sure it's headed my way. -
If I remember correctly (dang, I should've kept a journal) I was starting soft foods at three weeks on an accellerated schedule. I was told to start weening off of the Protein shakes and switch out to regular foods mushed in the blender a bit. One thing I had to be careful of was to not try to subsist on mashed potatoes and oatmeal. I was eating eggs well at that point, and cheese, and put meats in the blender with some broth to break it up and keep it moist. I love tuna, but could not eat it dry - had to put a little plain yogurt with it. Watch out for salt, and don't become part of the couch. The three week stall doesn't last forever. Trust in the plan that your bariatric team gave you, and drink Water until your eyeballs float.

Survived the 17 day vacation and cruise! LB works!
labwalker posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I just got back from my three month follow up with my surgeon's office. The APRN was amazed that I lost an average of two pounds week! More than two of those weeks was on 7 day cruise and all inclusive land tour. I ate good, and had a few drinks. Avoided the dinner rolls and other carbs, but there was some cheating. I hit the fitness center on the ship for five of the seven days--that was a good 4000 calories burned! I sampled some bad foods, but I didn't over indulge. A small nibble of the deserts kept me happy. In the past I would have gained several pounds, but I held my own--I see a three week "stall" on my weight charts, which is fine by me. No gain is good! I'm back on the diet plan, and hitting the health club at least 6 days a week. It all pays off, and the band makes it easier. The APRN wanted me back in three months, and I mentioned that I was under Medicare and they don't pay for follow up for surgery... no problem, "I want you back in three months for a follow up." She also asked if I wanted a fill, and I didn't think it was needed, but she said to call anytime if I changed my mind. That is the benefit of being treated by a good surgical group. I may actually hit my personal goal sometime in 2015. For now, life is good. I hope the honeymoon with the band lasts. -
Yep the three week stall. Very common.

August post op sleevers: Check in
VSGAnn2014 replied to motherof5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Checking in, fellow August sleevers. Sounds like everyone's finding their post-op VSG groove. Also sounds like everyone has discovered that the Three Week Stall wasn't just an urban myth. I'm 34 days post-op. Have lost 33 pounds total (pre- and post-op). I'm 2 pounds away from Onederland. Only unusual part of my VSG resume is that on Day 28 post-op I had gall bladder surgery. Could've done without that, but c'est la vie, eh? But I had the same surgeon, same surgical team, same hospital. In and out of the hospital same day. My protein intake is going well. Food experimentation is fine, even sometimes delicious. Last night we had Mexican takeout, and I had chicken fajitas (2 ounces of meat and 1 ounce of onions/peppers) slightly ground and 2 ounces of Rosarita no-fat traditional refried beans and an ounce of cheddar cheese (melted). I even had a couple (no more) of tortilla chips. Was delish! My water is usually 8-16 ounces too low (REALLY got to fix that!). Walking the dog for 30 minutes a day is my typical exercise, but my exercise activities and variety will increase soon. Also, Miralax works for me when constipation gets bad. My energy sort of waxes and wanes, but over the long haul it's getting better all the time. So, other than the gall bladder surgery interruption, all's going well here. Best to all. Focus on your progress and stay positive! I think that helps. -
HELP! Sleeved 8/27/14.....scale not moving!
dropdeadweightdiva replied to jamie1967's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use the term 'three week stall' because that tends to be when that first stall happens but for some it does so earlier or later.. as long as you follow your program it will drop pretty dramatically when it ends. -
Congrats, nice work! I'm about 3.5 weeks out and have lost around 40 lbs myself. Most of the weight came off at the beginning during the Protein shake diet, it's been slow losing the last week. I attribute it to the dreaded three week stall I've read about in other posts.

Stalled Blues
Thinkingthinner1109 replied to soon_skinnie_minnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got the three week stall and 1 week also. It kinda ticks me off. I know everyone says be patient, but I walk 4 miles a day. Get all my protein and fluids in. I am eating correctly. Eggs, fish, chicken sugar free jello. And I stalled at week 2. I was honesty doing better before surgery I drank two protein shakes a day, no snacks and a sensible dinner. I was able to walk up to 10. Miles a day. Now I am so whipped from the surgery I can only walk 4 miles. I cannot do strength training yet, and I was able to do that before surgery. It brings you down. I have put the scale away, right after I kicked it. I am not sure how weight cannot be falling off. So I understand where you are coming from. And yeah I know it didn't all get out on in three weeks, but something should be coming off nonetheless. -
Only lost 10lbs - WTF

It's called the "dreaded three week stall". Most people go through it. Hang in there, the weight will come off soon! -

My (on-time) three-week stall just broke this morning (I dropped 1.4 pounds). After consulting my daily weight chart (yeah, I'm obsessive like that), I see that it lasted 6 days. No biggie. I was ready for it. And knowing it was a common phenomenon, I was so unbothered by it. BTW, I'm very sure Cowgirljane's comment above is the important one to heed. -
Hit a stall 3 wks out. GRRRRR!

Seriously, Bryan, big congrats on your big leap out of the gate. It must be terrifically motivating. BTW, you're now enjoying your "three week stall." Search for that at this forum or google it. It's a very common phenomenon. No biggie at all though. Just keep doing what you're doing. Best .... -

I'm glad to see this post. I'm in the middle of my three week stall myself. I lost 40 pounds the first two weeks post-op then it's stayed there for the past few days. -
I just want to cry
VSGAnn2014 replied to bitter42's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What everyone else said above. I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and am currently enjoying my three week stall. Happily, I knew it was coming. Not sweating it at all. And I've lost post-op 9 pounds. So look how great you're doing. I'm not in a race with anyone. -
@blondebomb. What as encouraging post. I enjoyed reading. You lost 62 pounds since surgery? How in the world did you do that? And with a three week stall? Sad to say my weight in NOT falling off. I'm staying the course and following my plan to the letter, but it's pretty slow.

My first stall, is this thing going to work ?
VSGAnn2014 replied to johnsydney's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You're doing nothing wrong. But I have to ask ... Seriously? Did you really think you would keep losing 2-3 pounds a day forever? After such severe changes (surgery, rapid weight loss), our bodies periodically try to find equilibrium. They respond with what we call "plateaus" or "stalls." You are right on schedule for the "Three Week Stall." There are many threads and even an entire forum here devoted to this phenomenon. Or you can google it. You're doing fine. Just stop weighing yourself every day. Best wishes . -
I wouldn't worry about it I think your experiencing the dreaded third week stall! I was sleeved July 25 and right around the third week i stopped losing and would go up a pound or two and then it would drop! I too seemed to be doing everything right! Eating like 600 calories, getting my water in, all my protein and nothing happened! I ended up actually upping my calories to 700-750 and with in a couple days it started dropping! Someone explained the three week stall on here that made me feel so much better! The first couple weeks your body loses cause of the lack if calories and by the third week your body kinda says whoa!! And holds on to everything, then it adjusts and realizes that the lack in calories is the new norm and starts losing again !! The other person explained it much better but that's my short version! Lol. Good luck just keep doing what your doing and it will work itself off! I'm now 38lbs down since my sleeve!!

JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP
Cerika111 replied to SMED0308's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
#498 EvEisMySleeve said Any July Sleevers hit the dreaded 3rd week stall??? I did!! Ugh please tell me when it will end!! Yeppers no change x3 days for me so im guessing we are in same boat. I try not to step on that da#$ scale but can't. Im trying to change up meal choices. ..kinda always the same & hope that will help. Good luck to you!! I haven't lost for last 3 days and I have not been able to get in more than 300 calories on any day (mostly shakes that are 100 calories -'18 grams of protein each.) Occasionally broth, but I tried some puréed food and it did not feel good. Is this the three week stall or am I doing wrong by not forcing more down. I'm so afraid of stretching my tummy out and not losing. Any helpful advice would be great. I'm doing ok with water. -
Pre surgery person with questions!
Bufflehead replied to Linds14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you feel tired all the time? No, I have more energy now than I have ever had in my life. Being obese is what makes people tired, not getting healthy! Do you get sick a lot? No, I got a cold last month and had one around last Christmas, but that's it. That would have been normal for me before the surgery too. I don't ever get sick in terms of stomach sickness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or anything like that. Any surgery complications? Nope. Do you regret the surgery at all? Never. If I had to have this surgery again every year for the rest of my life in order to stay the way I am now, I would do it gladly. Thankfully I don't have to though! Any tips for those who haven't had the surgery yet?? Trust your surgeon and his/her team. Follow their directions and if their directions conflict with what strangers on the internet tell you -- follow YOUR surgeon, not someone else's! Get up and moving, and keep moving, as soon after the surgery as you can. Buy lots of Protein powder samples and an immersion blender before surgery (unless you are committed to RTD shakes) but don't stock up on tubs of protein flavors - your tastes will very likely change. And look into savory protein options such as unjury chicken Soup, HealthSmart Soups, stuff like that. Get a myfitnesspal.com account and learn how to use it to log your food, customize your goals, etc. Ask your team and the folks here lots of questions! And do a lot of reading on all the sleeve forums here -- not just the ones that apply to you right now. That way you'll know things like "what is the three week stall?" and "why don't I feel any restriction on full liquids?" and "why does my stomach keep making those weird noises?" -- information is power! Are you able to drink soda post surgery? I haven't tried soda, no reason to. But I did try champagne and I have to say the carbonation felt a little weird and uncomfortable. -
GREAT NEW SINGLE LOCATION FOR "STALL TALK!"
Jealbaroma replied to LivingFree!'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm eight weeks post-op and have hit my second stall. Totally hit that three week stall like everyone else, it lasted 10 days for me. I'm on day 13 of this current stall. It seems since surgery I have more stall days than loss days. Anyone else hit their second, third, tenth stall? If so can you please share your story so I can feel better? I've lost 22 pounds since surgery so I'm very happy and proud of myself! And just so everyone knows I eat around 800 - 900 calories a day (I'm 5'8"), exercise is here and there and I get about 80 g of Protein a day. I may not exercise everyday but I'm an active person. Thanks everyone for your comments or suggestions!!! -
Looking for 7/22/14 surgery buddy

@@evanslaura79 I got my staples out on Friday, too. Mine weren't so much itching as stabbing me, but I feel soooo much better now that they're out. I can finally sleep more comfortably--even on my stomach, which I have missed. I will admit that I'm very much over protein shakes, but the thought that it's just one more week keeps me going. I also need to start walking more. I'm coming up on the dreaded three-week stall that everyone talks about, although I think I'm already in a stall. The scale hasn't really moved for me in about a week, and I did a lot of walking downtown this weekend. I'm not discouraged, as I know this is all part of the progress. I just know I need to do more work. Hope everyone else is doing okay. -
In my three week stall, I went from a 2x to a 16.
