You don’t have to disclose anything about your WLS just to ask about weight neutral meds though. I asked my dr for these long before I even considered WLS. It can’t hurt to ask at least.

I don't live in WA, but I thought I'd throw this suggestion out there while we wait for WA residents to find this post and reply! Obviously as a non-resident I dont have much info, but you may want to look into Northwest Weight Loss Surgery in Kirkland WA. Their website is at http://www.nwwls.com/ The reason I know of them is that one of the people who works there (Jessie Ahroni) spends A LOT of time answering questions on the SmartBandsters mailing list over at yahoo, and she seems to be great at dealing with band issues. Good luck finding a doc that you're comfortable with.

    GOAL ...in 4+ Months

Booklean - you sound like you have done so well and will soon be at goal also! Congrats to you. I didn't really have any one problem area. I have always had ugly thighs so that would be it. Everything else has been proportional. I am lucky that I have always had a small stomach (or at least I always have when I haven't been overweight). I really have only been doing cardio since surgery. I live in Minnesota so in the summer months I take advantage of being outside. But once it turns cold out I am going to join a gym and start working on the weight training to further tone up. Good luck and I will be watching for you getting to goal! Frankie

    Port Moving?

Hi. I couldn't exactly 'place' mine initially but then I suppose I didn't want to touch it incase I unsettled it. I'm over 6 weeks post op now and mine tends to sit below and to the left of my scar. As I'm sitting now, it feels it's only an inch below. The port is stitched to your muscle so won't seem to go far but as we're losing weight/body fat, things will shrink and reposition slightly. My port does sit slightly tilted so that could give the impression of moving but it was no problem when I had a fill. Before I had my band, I joined my local support group for banders/bypassers and sleevers and had a feel of 3 peoples ports. They all felt very different and the positions varied.

I think you are very brave and honest to come forward with your problem. I haven't been banded yet, (June 12th) but I think a trip to see your surgeon is a great idea. Maybe they can't fix the problem for you, but maybe they can give you some new found inspiration. Don't give up! Don't let your mind trick you in to excepting your weight as it is now...and make you think that's all your going to lose. Summer is nearly here...it is a great time to try to increase your activity level. Do some serious soul searching and reach down in there deep and grab some encouragement!!!! Maybe join weight watchers to jump start you again. Even if your diet needs to be a little different than what they offer...the support you get from the group is always helpful. Maybe you can find someone in your area who has had the surgery and join forces! You CAN do this. You HAVE to...that's what this is all about. I wish you the very best of luck and really hope you can change up something in your life just a little to give you that extra boost you need right now!

  8. Just wanted to share with everyone that I reached my goal in 4 and 1/2 months!!! I started as a 50 y.o. lightweight with surgery weight of 213 and today I am at my goal of 145 - that's 68 lbs lost in a little over 4 months. I set my goal at 145 because it is a normal BMI (I am 5'5") and should be easy to maintain. But I think I will go for 10 more pounds to 135. This hasn't been the easy way out since I worked for every single pound lost. I did not just let the sleeve do the work - I have been exercising since surgery starting with walking 3 miles/day and then adding in biking. I am currently biking around 75-100+ miles a week along with brisk walking most days (Yes I do work full-time also and have a family). I have had no problems, can eat anything and have never been sick from the sleeve. I have been good about staying on the diet of 800 calories with 30 grams of carbs. I figured I had 80% of my stomach removed and paid thousands of dollars out of pocket I was going to work this thing as hard as I could. I haven't dealt with any hair loss yet but don't think I am totoally out of the woods since I recently read that for some it doesn't start until 6 months post-op. But I am keeping my fingers crossed. I am not going to go for plastics because everything has recovered just fine and should continue to get better as I add more weight training into my workouts. I think the girls are better than before now that all that back fat is gone! Yuk. So for those of you just researching good luck and I do recommend the sleeve. I am not going to say I love my sleeve like most people do - don't get me wrong I like it A LOT. But I think I will save the proclamation of love for a year out when I see how well I do with maintenance. Best of luck to everyone. Frankie VSG 3/22/10 Dr Aceves
  9. I am sorry you arent feeling well and you do need to figure out whats wrong. We were banded on the same day and we have lost the same amount of weight. Very frustrating! My weight loss was before surgery when they put me on the preop diet and right after surgery. I am just glad there is someone out there who is losing as slow as I am! Hope you get feeling better and figure out what is going on!
  10. I had the band for 7 years, and I had trouble the past year. Bloating, nausea, never felt well. I have gained 20 lbs and my skin is shiny it's so tight on my hands and stomach.
  11. Cucumbers and carrots have very little calories and the fibrousness of them makes you feel full quickly. Could help you out some. One other thing to realize is that will all the struggles we've gone through trying to lose weight, sometimes losing weight is uncomfortable. We've all felt that many times. We may still have to deal with that from time to time even with surgery. I know for me, if I go to bed too late I get REALLY hungry. I just have to bear it out and/or go to bed and just deal with it. If your surgery is still fairly new, then the hunger hormones may not be out of your system just yet. It was two months before I really lost my appetite. So- HANG IN THERE!! you can do this, and just try to keep yourself busy when you're too hungry. Suck on some sugar free hard candies. That helps a lot too. OH--and pickles have almost NO calories!! eat some pickles! (Just don't overdo it, there is a lot of sodium;) )

    Exercise

With all of the emphasis on diet, exercise and other health behaviors, the real marker of long life seems to be mental even more than physiological," says aging expert Daniel Perry, noting that those who reach very old age "have a certain toughness of spirit about them and an ability to roll with life's punches and keep plugging away with a sense of purpose." Wow, that is great news. I have been cleaning out my closet, again. This time I was serious about it. I did not save anything over an 18. Gaining and losing weight has become such a habit that I save fat clothes and skinny clothes. No more. Posted by Queen Bee's

    Happy with 1st Fill

Congrats. My first fill was yesterday, started at 3.8CCs and then took it down to 3 CCs since it was too much. Still on liquid until tomorrow but I'm hoping it was a good fill. Your weight gain and feeling the concern of not feeling restriction is exactly what I went through. Good luck!

    Week before my two weeks

Ugh I'm going thru this right now! I lost 14lbs before submitting to insurance and getting my date of Oct. 5th for surgery. After that last weigh in, I started "cheating," or allowing myself to eat foods that I really won't ever eat again, because they are unhealthy. So far in the last 2 weeks, I have had pizza, Chinese, a turkey hoagie, and threw my daughter a 1st birthday party and indulged. Well, now I am up 5lbs!!! I'm feeling really low about it, but I know that I'm starting my pre-op liquid diet soon, and I'll lose that weight again in no time. I guess it's really my last hoorah. ???? pathetic, I know.

The line which shows a person's progress?

I found the tickerfactory a little tricky to get back to it again - you have to somehow bookmark the address of your bar to access it again, then you can access it to change your current weight. You don't have to recreate it or go in to your signature again to update it. Look at the page you get after creating the full ticker. It has a section for bulletin boards that you can copy and paste into your signature on this board. It also has the link to return to update.
  16. At exactly six weeks out, my incisions finally healed enough for me to get to the local pool for my aerobic workout. I successfully avoided exercise for my whole life until three years ago when I got hooked on 3X a week vigorous Water workout and lap swimming. I have not been in the pool for my deep water work out for 7 weeks, and it felt great!! I was also wearing new swim trunks as the old ones were too big.... I am going to alternate swim days with treadmill time. My next goal (likely another 50# to go) will be to get back on my bicycle, I need lots of exercise to keep this weight loss going steady -- over 50# in six weeks, not complaining. Thanks everyone for all of your support on these forums.
  17. My doctor did a bit of Lipo there and the front area ( which seemed large in my work out pants)was pulled up during my TT. Ask your surgeon if that is included. I'm thinking it is common to have droopiness after weight loss. I was pleased with the results . Good luck! Ps. It hurt a bit ( ok a lot)the first week. Just know it gets better quickly as time goes on! Ok I guess we can say mons as in mons pubis.... That for me was kinda a fat pad that was changed during my TT .

10 days post op, is this normal?

Hi there this happened to me as well but i started with 4ml in my band and i think every clinic/hospital is different when i comes to there fill policy the clinic i went to was happy to do my fills earlier than planned for me as i just healed well and was losing weight i was also told that some people put on weight until they hit there "sweet spot" with the band and by this i mean when you feel full on little the amount of food they want you to eat like it could 35Grams or 75grams it all depends again on the clinic/hospital - I was told it could take up to six months plus before the sweet spot is found and everyone again is different when it comes it some people only have 6ml in there band where as i have 7.5 ml in a 10ml band i did have 8ml in but it was too tight for me. People think that having the band as tight as it can go will bring better results but it doesn't it has the opposite effects on you because then nothing is passing those the space the band had made it will get stuck and when food get s stuck its not passing through the nerve in your stomach that controls appetite - the way band has been done for me is it sits just at the top of my stomach i don't have a pouch when food passes through the band it triggers off a nerve there at the top of stomach to send signals to the brain to tell you you are full on little amount of food but you have to eat the right type of food normally it is hard textured food you need to be eating in order to help with band and the body to brake it down slower as well - hope this helps you a little but more.
  21. So i was banded a little over 3 years ago (24 yrs old at the time) a couple of weeks after being banded I had a grapefruit size cyst removed as well as part of my ovary removed. I fully recovered from both surgeries and I'm happy to announce my weight loss of 90 lbs thanks to the band. However I have had episodes of intestinal inflammation, bladder and urinary issues, reoccuring cysts on top of painful intercourse, pain when using the restroom and pain if I'm gassy. My ob/gyn feels I have endometriosis and wants to do surgery to confirm the diagnosis. Every month 3-5 days before my period my band gets really tight and it doesnt loosen up until a few days into my period which I have read that other people have this issue too. Whats odd is I asked my band doctor about this and he said that hormones do not effect the band. However I have read that those with endo its possible for it to spread to diaphragm and that can effect the band. Endo causes inflammation so I guess maybe its possible that inflammation of the diaphragm from endo can cause tightness of the band and lt shoulder pain around that time of the month? Does any body with endometriosis have this issue? Does anybody have the tightness issue without endo? Is there any link btwn endo and band tightness?

    Menses/Time of the Month

Update: I know this may be TMI (too much info) lol but since it's what the topic is about...I finally got my period today. Whew! I'm relieved. For a moment I thought it was early menopause. I don't even know why I was so worried, it's not like I plan having any more children. Maybe it's all the menopause associated symptoms that I often hear women complaining about is what scares me. After all, I'm still recovering and adjusting after this surgery. Well, although I'm relieved about getting my period after 3 months of not having it, I'm not enjoying the bloating and cramps! I think the doctor and several people here were right about the stall. It's been over 2 Weeks since I began soft foods and now I have stopped losing weight. It's only been fluctuating between 158 & 159 lbs. I've at least 34 more pounds to lose to reach my goal weight. But yes, I notice that since I stopped losing weight so quickly, now I have my period again. Makes sense. My body is no longer "in shock".

    1 Year Post Op Checkup

hi paul, I'm sitting here reading your terrific post with a big grin on my face. I am a newbie DOS 12/15/11, i am scared what the future holds for me like i'm sure you were 1 yr. ago too. Will this weight come off, can i really do it this. How long will it take? What does the future hold for me? Then I see amazing stories like yours. I smile to myself and say, "if Paul can do this, so can I" Your story gives me such good feelings and hope, I know i can and will succeed - it just seems so far away. I didn't wake up one morning with 90 extra lbs, nor will i go to bed one night will all this excess weight gone. I know your journey will continue you will do great. You have SUCCESS written all over your face. One million times over congratulations, keep walking forward and upward, i will be right behind you, before you know it i'll catch up with you. Congratulations, you will do this forever and a day with all the success you deserve. It was great hearing your story, you are such an inspiration. Thank you You deserve much applause and continued happiness. kathy

    How much is too much?

It sounds like you are doing all the right things to me. How tall are you and what's your goal weight? I'm actually pretty similar and have the same concern. I wasn't the heaviest of sleeve pts. My HW was 276, my SW was 257, and my current weight is 232, about 4 1/2 weeks post op. I can tell I've lost some muscle. I'm still on lifting restrictions for another 2 weeks, so no gym for me.
