Bmi 35 Need To Lose 75 Lbs

Haha I didn't even realize we had corresponded in 2012. (I'm using the mobile app so not even sure how to find this type of info) That's was a couple years into my lapband adventures! I had to have that removed in Feb. Of this year and now I had the revision to VSG. I am looking forward to following you journey for the first year. My husband and I are not retired yet but we do love to travel. We went to Ireland for three weeks last year (our honeymoon) and will be heading to Scotland for two weeks next year during the Royal Tattoo. I'm hoping to be in better shape for Scotland so I can enjoy walking a lot more without all the " rest stops and backaches". Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Lap Band Removal or NOT???

I had the same experiences - and price tag, out of pocket as you. My revision to RNY in July (one surgery) was the best decision. No regrets at all! Insurance also covered my surgery this time because it was an emergency situation. Best of luck. I’m sure you will be as happy as I am! Keep us updated.

    I'm 60 +

Hi I'm 63, so good to see I'm not the only one. I'm scheduled for revision from lap band to bypass on 12/14/17.

    Lap Band Removal or NOT???

I've had a lap band for almost ten years, and I've been 20 pounds over my starting weight for years. I am scheduled for revision to bypass on 12/14/17. My surgeon says it all depends on what he finds in there. He's hoping to do both on the same day. If I have too much damage from the band, I will have to heal for three months and then go back for bypass. I can not wait to have my band out. It was the worst decision I ever made. It's been miserable and unsuccessful. I can't even eat scrambled eggs without getting them stuck. I paid $17,000 out of pocket for that band. Insurance is. Covering this surgery.

  8. Congratulations! How are you feeling now? I just had my revision done on 11/6. I’ve been in a lot of pain and having trouble swallowing pills. Are you able to drink 64 oz water? So far I’m on my second water bottle and it’s 4pm and I managed to drink 11oz premier protein drink. This is such a strange thing for me, I’m so use to wanting to eat eat, and right now I could careless. Did you or anyone else have shooting pains near an incision site. I haven't told anyone

In December of 2009 I had lap band surgery. My finance drove me to surgery center for what he thought was a knee surgery. ( I really was having knee surgery two weeks later so I told him it was a part one preliminary surgery). I had at that time only told two best friends. One who drove me to pre-op appts and one who I stayed with for 2 days post op after my finance drove me home just so I could get through the worst of it without actually having to gimp and fake like I had just had knee surgery. I had some issues 3 years later and ended up in hospital and told him in strictest confidence because he was thinking way worse case scenarios for my issues. We'll within a few days he blabbed to everyone including his and my friends and family. I broke up with him a few months later because there was no trust that he would honor me which was my fear from the beginning. I'm now married to a wonderfully supportive man who has been by my side through the lap band removal and VSG revision and I know he will only disclose my information to anyone in specifically say is allowed to know my secret. I have also told two of my children and a couple of my best friends. The same ones who knew about the lapband and my supervisor (so she won't think I have cancer or something and worry to much and I know that due to HIPPA she won't tell anyone). I had surgery late Monday afternoon and still haven’t passed gas. I do seem to burp a little after drinking water. Having a really hard to drinking my fluids. I didn’t realize this surgery would be so painful. The side where they removed my port and lap band hurts so bad. I keep questioning why I did this to myself lol. jgat how are you doing on fluids ? 11. Usually band-to-sleeve converters feel a lot less restriction than they did with the band. I think because tissue, by nature, is elastic, and plastic is rigid. So, it will be up to you to pay attention to what and how much you consume. (I feel this is why we say "revisions typically lead to slower losses"... because the patients... and their bodies.... are already used to restriction).

    Lap Band Removal or NOT???

I had my Band January 2911. It turned out to be a nightmare and caused so many health problems. It caused extreme pain 4-5x a day to the point it kept me up mist nights and U was doubled up in pain. After several doctors in several years, my Gastro did an EGD, found many serious problems and suggested a Lapband revision by a Bariatric doctor. The revision to Bypass was done July 5 in one surgery. All went fine and I had minimal pain. Off meds in 2 days. I was just very tired the first month. My surgeon, on top of everything else, found my stomach in my upper chest from a hiatal hernia, loose port, and what gastro found. No more pain or sleepless nights in pain or daily losing my food. The revision is the best surgery I ever had and wasn’t bad at all. 203 - weight at banding - 1/2011 170 - weight at revision - 7/5/2017 136 - current weight Best of all, I feel great again! Best wishes on whatever decision you make!
  13. I just had my band removed and converted to RNY on Monday. I’m at the point of recovery asking why I did this because I’m in a lot of pain. Everyone keeps telling me I’ll be happy in a few days to a week. I do have to say I haven’t felt hungry at all, so this is a big deal for me! I remember when I had the band put in and I felt hungry right away. I also failed my band and ate a lot of crap but decided I needed to make a change once and for all. I actually lost 21 lbs on the pre op diet they put you on for two weeks. HW 367 SW 346 Revision from band to gastric bypass RNY on 11/6/17

    Lap Band Removal or NOT???

I had a band placed in 2010, went from 239 to around 185. A year after that my gallbladder had to be removed and my weight shot back up to 242. I couldn’t get back into the green zone no matter how many fills/unfills we tried. By 2017 I was getting stuck with water. I couldn’t take it anymore and started my journey for a revision. I was 242 at my consult. August 8, 2017 I was revised from band to SIPS/LOOP DS. All in one outpatient surgery. I’m three months out and went from 242 at my consult to 189 today. My only complication was an issue with my incisions taking longer than normal to heal. Just wanted you to know that not everyone has bad experiences. The only negative I can come up with is that I wish I did this years ago instead of suffering with that torture band.

Lap band to RNY, lots of questions from new guy

Thank you both for your reply. I suppose I watched too many you tube dumping episodes. BlackCatMatt, I think I probably made it sound a lot worse than it is. I actually love my job and welcome the challenges. It's only stressful because you do have other people who watch over your shoulder, but most people are pretty good about it -- they requested our help after all. The sometimes long days stink, but I almost always have the ability to push it an extra day and rearrange my travel. I'm glad to know about the protein drinks being ok. I consumed them a lot at the beginning of the lap band, and I still have them for breakfast and lunch. Other than candy/pastries/cookies/cake, are there foods that can no longer be consumed? I realize that food is what got me to where I am today, but I don't want to be stuck eating toast (or some other bland food) forever. Maybe the best question I should have asked is "What do you wish you would have known before you got the revision?" Thanks again
  16. I had my BAND TO SLEEVE Revision on 9/28. I have lost 32 lbs, but I have come to an abrupt STALL! Nothing in 3 weeks. I have horrible head hunger and I am able to eat more than I think I should . . . for lunch I had a Tuna pouch - then and hour and a half later I had 2 small chicken fingers. I was not in horrible pain but definitely too full. Is anyone else having problems with head hunger and able to eat more than they (the Dr) said?

6 years banded, nausea after eating

Hate to like something like this... but there isn't any other options LOL Sucks that it was something so drastic, but glad you went and had it checked out... too many people would have just dealt with it. Have you discussed revision to another WL option with your surgeon?? Wait... Tuesday, that's today! Hope all is well man!
  18. Thank you! The time will go by super fast, before you know it you’ll be at 3 months. I feel like I’m a rather slow loser which is usually the case as a revision vs a first time wls patient. But as long as it’s still coming off it then it’s all good. Good luck to you, I’m sure you’ll hit 180-190 in no time [emoji4]
  19. Working on Lap Band to VSG revision here! When I had the band in 09 I gave up soda for an entire year and then I just had one periodically. It never hurt and all the tests I've had to get the VSG have not shown a stretched pouch. I think the bubbles may upset the stomachs of some. I think the biggest reason is drinking your calories is not a good idea. Believe me I gained like 50lbs on liquids alone. The sugar in sodas caused me to crave more sugary things that would also just slide right through the band. I feel like the same could happen with VSG if I don't cut them out.

    Roux stasis syndrome

I'm assuming that's what I have. I had a gastric emptying study that showed that my food is sitting in my small intestine for a very long time, so I am having a revision on November 20th. Definitely wish they had found it before I had to live with it for 15 years, but glad to filly get it taken care of. Good luck to you! !
  22. Hello everyone, first post here. I tend to type a lot, so I will try to be short. I'm 41 and I have had the band for almost 8 years. 293 surgery weight, got down to 220, back up to 290. I have had it unfilled for a long time. I am tired of the restriction (even unfilled) and it's not working with me so I want to get it out. I am thinking about the RNY but I have a lot of questions. I won't ask all of them now, but if there is a good FAQ or resource of common revision questions, I would be grateful for the link. My lap band failed me because I failed it. That's the honest truth. I don't like timing when I drink, and I eat a lot of pasta, so I drink as I eat. I'm positive I have a huge slip. I eat very little in the morning and lunch, and then eat a lot in the evening. I mean a lot, like as much as I did before the band. I'm willing to do the work - I know I need to change if I go with the RNY. I just need to know what to expect. I've been up and down a lot with weight since the 4th grade. 220 > 180 > 263 (Extreme exercising and dieting) > 163 > 293 (Lap band operation) > 220 > 290 (Now) I have anxiety quite bad. I have panic attacks every once and a while, and I take Luvox and Lamictal to help me through it. I have been rushed to the ER because I thought I was having a heart attack (That's the kind of panic attacks I have). I travel a lot for work, and I am involved in somewhat stressful situations while I work. When I'm working, I have to be "on it" and can't be sick (e.g. dumping syndrome) and sometimes I don't get enough time to eat a quality meal. Also, sometimes I work very long days...12-16 hours, once 30 hours. It isn't this way all the time, maybe twice per month, but I never know what kind of a cluster I'm walking into (I'm a IT consultant). I have to fly to these gigs, and even though I don't have a fear of flying, I have had a panic attack or two on the plane. I'm specifically worried about dumping syndrome while flying + panic attacks. I'm curious if anyone out there has the same situation as far as anxiety and travel, and so on. If you do, how has the band > RNY worked out for you? I think this is the most important thing for me. In regards to my many other questions, I'm going to do some searching on here to try and get a feeler for the answers. I meet with the Surgeon after Thanksgiving. I want to be better prepared than I am now. Thanks for taking the time to read or comment on this.

    Pregnancy after sleeve?

Yes!!!! I first got my sleeve in 2014.. I was 349 went down to 220 then I got pregnant with my 5th child... and then a year after I got pregnant with my sixth!!!! That's it for me!!! I learned my lesson and this coming Friday will be a new chapter for me... startingbover with my weight loss journey. I go for a revision and I'm getting the gastric bypass. I'm nervous. Please send positive energy my way[emoji26][emoji38][emoji38][emoji38] thanks in advance. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. Instead of 2 anastamosis, there is only one. A gastric bypass involves 2 connections to the intestines, the Mini Gastric only involves 1 connection. They are very similar otherwise. What are your current stats? When did you get your sleeve? How much did you lose? What have you chosen to revise?
  25. I have no experience to add, but there are others on this board that still get gerd or ulcers after the revision in that stomach portion that is unused, you just don't get reflux in the esophagus. They had initial relief but became very ill again after 2 years. My PCP's nurse had bypass 7yrs ago and has a bad ulcer in that unused portion of her stomach. Just something to consider. Some have regretted the 2nd surgery. One suggestion is to try every medication, especially suggested was Nexium even if insurance won't cover the brand. This is the name of the thread on here, put it in the search function - Sleeve revision to gastric bypass tomorrow
