Week after surgery and I'm struggling
Bonines replied to Bonines's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just got the caramel flavor premier protein and i love it. I'll check out the banana. I was hesitant to buy it but I'll take your recommendation. Thanks! I'm in puree phase now and about to go to soft solids but still need to get that protein in. I've been relying on greek yogurt as well so that's been a big help. -
Help! Ate too much! Pain in the middle.

Hi everyone. Just saw the Bariatric program nurse and we were troubleshooting what happened. She feels that even light mayo is too much fat to tolerate at the purée stage for some. She recommended using fat free plain yogurt instead. We discussed how not having good coping mechanisms for stress led me to seek out pleasure from food and take in more then was appropriate. I’ve had stress with my mother, my daughter and my dog this past week and my normal way to deal is to devour something rich and put myself in a food coma. Because I tried to use my old method with my teeny stomach pouch I caused a bolus of food to get stuck. In some ways I wonder if I did this so I could get everyone to get off my back this week. Not consciously but maybe a self sabotage so everyone would have to fend for themselves. I see it now but I didn’t see it then. I’ve got to stay self-aware while eating. This was too traumatic of an experience to repeat. -
I am SO disappointed in myself. Self-sabotage post-op

I'm 11 months out of sleeve surgery. I came to build a routine in what I eat, and I absolutely enjoy every meal. Even if it's exactly the same as yesterday. I love it. Here's what I eat in a day (and the day after, and the one after.... 🙂 Breakfast: 2 eggs, 4 oz of diced lean ham (pork or turkey, or a turkey patty), 1 oz leek, 1 oz sweet peppers, all scrambled together. Add 6-8 cherry tomatoes and an espresso with 1 oz of 2% milk. Lunch: 5 oz of lean meat (chicken breast, pork loin, beef sirloin) grilled or pan seared, 2 cups of shredded fresh cabbage, one tablespoon of light mayonnaise Dinner: 5 oz of fish (cod, mahi, salmon, tuna, shrimp) and 1 cup of sliced zucchini or snap peas, all pan seared together, plus one Danon Light&Fit yogurt. That's about 1100 calories a day. Throw in the occasional apple or cup of berries, and it's 1200 calories, all in. And that's ALL I've been eating for the last 10 months. The only variation is the type of meat or fish I have. Or what flavor yogurt I choose. I'm not bored, and I look forward to every meal. It makes it easy to shop for and cook. Do yourself a huge favour and throw away ALL the crisps, cakes and any other greasy or sugary snacks you may have in the house. Then don't buy them again. If you really must snack, bite into an apple, or chew on a carrot. It keeps the mouth busy, without adding much caloric content. Oh, and I drink a gallon of water a day, to stave off constipation. Hang in there, believe in yourself, and maybe talk to a therapist or a friend about it. -

Most adults are lactose intollerant anyway we just don't realize it. Skin problems, gas, runny nose we dont' associate. Not many of us 30 year olds were meant to be still nursing (much less nursing from a cow) by design. Goat's milk is MUCH easier to tollerate as it is very close to human milk. If you can tollerate goat's milk you can tollerate goat's cheese and usually yogurt is easy on the body. Check out Coconut milk also for fluids. Beans are an excellent source of protien and you may consider adding either foul or fish into your diet. I was a veg head for years in my teens but added back in f&f because I was lacking in protien. You can also put some Peanut Butter in shakes or peanut flour. Where there's a will, there's a way. -

Hi, I've not become intolerant to anything I wasn't already intolerant to. I did take it easy in the first weeks though. Yogurt is recommend because people tend to have less reaction to fermented products. FYI Greek yogurt has double the protein of standard yogurt (9g v 4.5g/100g). In your early days just yogurt or yogurt drink will be easier on you, as Greek yogurt is pretty heavy. Have you tried lactose free milk? I don't recall hearing of anyone becoming intolerant to eggs, so you should be OK with them Don't worry about protein too much at the beginning, just concentrate on getting your fluids. All the best for your op! -
If anyone is in the full liquids phase and having a hard time try Greek Yogurt. I had 4 oz of stoneyfields blueberry Greek yogurt and I had no issues. This is the only thing ive really enjoyed in five days . Hope this helps someone

Surgery 2 Days Ago
kahlualouie replied to Fourstarmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery about 2.5 weeks ago. Gas X greatly helped with the bubbly stomach. I still take it. I've also had to take two different PPI's. Post op day 3 I thought I was going to die. I was having extreme nausea and couldn't tolerate any cold or room temperature water. Everything had to be heated up and then I ended up on Reglan. So now, I'm almost 3 weeks. I feel quite a hot better and still on full liquids. My program added bananas, peanut butter, and applesauce this week. Previously, I've been doing the protein shakes, Greek yogurt, strained creamy soup, jello and pudding. Next week I get scramble eggs, potatoes , oatmeal, cream of wheat, cottage cheese. I cannot wait for Tuesday! It will gat better. I questioned myself in whether or not I did the right thing. Still do, but I think that is normal. -

Cottage cheese, yogurt going down too easy?
ssflbelle replied to jackbh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isn't that odd I had 2 weeks of liquids only. I was not allowed yogurt or cottage cheese until week 4. I find even now 17 weeks post op there are many times I can't even finish 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or a cup of yogurt. -

Do you like greek yogurt? It is very high in protein- 12 grams for 1/2 cup. Add SF preserves to it along with splenda or stevia- sooo good! -
anyone having feeling of regret after surgery
cajunsweetheart007 replied to toy27's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I will be 8 mths. post surgery on the 27th and I'm down 96 pounds. I am in a 12/14 depending on the cut and manufacturer. There are days when I can eat more than others. I don't snack a lot between meals. I have learned to read labels. I eat a lot of the Greek yogurt 90 cal. and the protein shakes 120 cal. I also rarely eat anything fried. I try to stick to green leafy vegetables, berries and fruit. My back doesn't hurt anymore and I have two ruptured disk. It's hard to swallow all the vitamin supplements, but I just suck it up and do it. I need them and that's that. I don't miss the bread, and I don't crave sweets. It's just trying to find a variety of food I can eat. One thing is for sure when I go to lunch with my co workers I am always taking the majority of the food home to my husband or to eat for dinner. I am looking at loosing another 36 pounds. I have days when I'm down, but the majority of the days are good and getting better as time goes on. You just half to remember that a piece of your body was taken out of you, and it's like having a loss. Also loosing the weight in and of its self is a loss. You had an excuse to hide behind (the weight). As you loose your weight you loose the ability to hide behind it. It's like your out there exposed. I liken it to a person who has been stripped of all their clothing, and they are standing in a room naked. Loosing this much weight is like being naked, your vulnerable, and looking for something to comfort you. That something use to be food. You have to find something that can replace the food, that doesn't have a negative connotation. -

For those of you who live more on the west side of the US where Safeway stores are or if your local stores in your area carry Lucerne brands, Lucerne low fat frozen yogurt is absolutely excellent!! I am not kidding. They only make a hand full of flavors but they are fabulous. And the price is so very affordable. I got some today on sale 2/$5.00 and the regular price is $2.99 for the large size which is 1.5 quart. It contains 0.5 grams of fat, 14 grams of sugar, and 4 grams of Protein per 1/2 cup...............WOW!! I couldn't wait to share this info I am currently enjoying the Black Cherry chocolate Chip and it is heavenly. I am 4 weeks post op as of today and so happy to have found this item I couldn't keep it to myself. Lucerne also makes a Chocolate & vanilla. I have emailed the company to see what other flavors Lucerne makes because sometimes not all stores will carry the entire line. I also requested coupons as well. I have uploaded a pic of the item........... ENJOY BARIATRIC PALS Vitamins Form.pdf

Eating Post Op after Gastric Bypass
rubyred138 replied to DimandGirl's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I ate loads of SF popsicles mainly to keep myself hydrated, broth, and my protein drinks. I could also eat 1/2 of a yoplait light or 2 table spoons of no sugar added apple sauce but I would only do those two as my breakfast so I could sprinkle my prilosec & biotin onto them. Jello hurt to eat until week 3. i also didnt start drinking milk until week 3. Basically I stuck to broth water popsicles yogurt and applesauce for 2.5 weeks. It got boring so fast! I was so happy when I could start eating food with flavor & texture! -
2 day liquid diet before surgery?!
McButterpants replied to Laura Lopez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All doctor's are different. You can talk to 10 people and all will have different pre-op diets as well as different post-op diets. My instructions pre-op - be caffeine free and 2 weeks prior to surgery, have 3 Protein shakes and 1 meal (4 ounces of protein and a veggie). The night before surgery, the surgeon told my husband and me to go out and have whatever we wanted for dinner. I thought he was joking - he wasn't. He told me I had done great on the pre-op and that the only restriction was "don't go overboard on the red meat and no all you can eat buffets" (we were in Vegas). Post op - my surgeon was very progressive in introducing foods…I could have a couple of tablespoons of "slip and slide" food the day after surgery (scrambled egg, yogurt, anything that would slip off a plate). When I got home from Vegas and had my 2 week follow up with my local doc, I actually regressed to an all liquid diet. You'll do fine - be happy your doc said only 2 days…pre-op diets are very difficult! :-) -
Ok, Im not sleeved yet. But love to cook and experiment. I found if you soak wonton wrappers for a few minutes they make a perfect sub for lasagna pasta. I made this a couple nights ago: 1lb ground chicken or turkey 8 wonton wraps 3/4 cup ff cheese (I used jalapeno jack) 1 10oz can enchalada sauce 1/4 cup chopped onion 1 chopped jalapeno (cored) 1/4 cup chopped cilantro 1 small avacado Plain greek yogurt Preheat oben to 375. Brown meat (drain if needed) add onions, jalapeno and cilantro and 1/2 of the enchalada sauce. Soak wontons in a bowl of water while this cooks for about 10 mins. Spray small baking dish w/ nonstick spray. (I used a small 6x6) Carefully layer bottom with 4 wontons with slight overlap. Add a layer of meat mixture, sprinkle with cheese, repeat. Top off with remaining sauce and cheese Bake in oven approx 20 min or until cheese is bubbly and beginning to brown. Top with small amount chopped avacado and a dab of plain greek yogurt. This makes 4 servings for nonsleeved folk. With ground chicken: 278 cal, 28 protein (this is calced with a nonsleeve serving) Sorry no pic..it was a pretty dish and very good..but my son left nothing for the camera. : /

New Frozen Yogurt Find :):)
NUPCHAPUPP replied to NUPCHAPUPP's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I understand. Different facilities have varying protocols. Which really just goes to show you that there are no such rules set in stone. Pretty much everyone you talk to has a different nutrition format to follow whether it be standard or individualized. Yours sounds really strict and that must be difficult. The dietitian's on my Bariatric team recommend 5 grams of fat and 14 grams of sugar or less per serving. I even find that hard sometimes and wouldn't want to have my grams any lower that's for sure. Hope you have been able to find foods that are satisfying within such small gram amounts. And I hope you won't have to wait a whole year to taste my "new yogurt find" Blessings To Ya -
4 months protein question.

I am 11 months post surgery and still have a Protein shake or fortified greek yogurt almost every day. I am not a huge fan of meat and I am allergic to soy, so I need the whey protein from the shakes to ensure I get my 60 grams each day. -
I had the same gassy problem with Premier Protein and decided it was the lactose... I think I can eat yogurt and cheese, but high concentration of lactose sends me running to the bathroom! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Has anyone done this? Yes. I have also heard of this and plan to do so. I found one of my kids baby spoons in the drawer and have been using that to eat yogurt in prep for surgery. What's Your Food Philosophy: Abstain Forever Or Eat In Moderation?
LipstickLady replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My guess is if you just adjusted a bit, you'd be fine! You have very little Protein and are pretty carb heavy. Replace some of those high sugar Snacks with protein and you'd be golden! Have you tried the cocoa dusted almonds? They are yummy! There are coffee mocha flavored, too, that are delish. eggs or greek yogurt instead of a bagel, half the pineapple and add some cheese... You know what to do. Shift the balance and still enjoy a bit of what you love.
