    High Vitamin B12 levels

I had blood test at 6 months and again at 10 months. Both times B 12 came back at 2000 or just under. I take 1 bariatric vitamin that has a high does of B12. The Md didn't seem concerned. I can't cut back on it since it is in my all in on e vitamin. I also read conflicting information that its no big deal and also that it could mean i am not absorbing it and should be given via shot or sublingual. I just don't know what the people on here take for a multivitamin is they take it separately. Do they take a bunch of separate vitamins?

    February Surgery ?

Just had my first protein drink. Unjury unflavored powder with a BodyArmor superdrink. Only 8 oz. It took me 40ish minutes, but I did it! I'll wait another 10 and start on water. Want to stay hydrated. All fluids count towards my total 64 oz, right? Even the protein drink?

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Maintenance : 5'2" / 1.25 yr PO Sleeve / 116.9 lbs ---------------------------------------- Oops, missed posting Friday's food, so here is both Friday & Sat menus. I changed up my efforts a bit in terms of getting myself out of my rut. Focusing on physical & mental vs food intake. Exercise always makes me feel good, so am making sure to get some in (did two 1.5 hour walks each day), and going back to stepping outside to sit on the porch and do some deep breathing when I start to feel annoyed. I remember this did wonders for me when I went through my re-Quitting of cigarettes back in October. And yep, it still totally works. It's funny how I forget this every single time. Also, I need to make efforts to get more sleep in. I seem to not have not recovered from my week of not sleeping watching the Australian Open. I am continue to watch TV late into the night/morning, resulting in getting maybe 3-4 hours of sleep. This has to stop. #Move #Breathe #Sleep #andMaybeCutDownOnAllTheTeaLattes ---------------------------------------- Friday Feb 7 9:00am - 12:00pm - black coffee w/ stevia + 1 skinny tea latte + 1 pineapple tea 12:30pm - salad greens + vinaigrette + carrots + cucumber + red onions + 5 oz pan-fried chicken + 2tbsp avocado cream 2:30pm - 1 skinny tea latte + 1 ATKINS coconut chocolate bar + 2 oz chicharron + 2 squares dark chocolate 5:00pm - salad greens + vinaigrette + 2.5 oz pan-fried chicken + 2tbsp avocado cream + 1/4 cup vinegar coleslaw + 3/4 cup pineapple (btw the pineapple was a big mistake, I had made some pineapple tea with the rinds, so we had all this pineapple, so I figured, why not. This was the first time i've had fresh pineapple in over a year. I got really sick: first I got the racing heart and the nausea, then I barfed (like 3-4 times), then got really bad cramps, then I pooped, the cramps continued and I laid down in bed with a cold towel and passed out for 2 hours. #oopsies) 9:00pm - salad greens + vinaigrette + 1/4 cup vinegar coleslaw + 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds + 1/2 oz cheddar cheese + 1 oz BBQ pork loin + 2.5 oz pan-fried chicken + 2tbsp avocado cream 12:00am to 4:00am - 2 skinny tea lattes 1/2 cup Good North chocolate fudge brownie Protein ice cream + 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds 1/2 pecan butter tart 4 squares dark chocolate 2 oz chicharron At around 3am, I had a bout of foamies/slimies & diarrhea & overall bad feelings, likely due to the butter tart, but could have been leftover effects from the pineapple earlier... @apple1-yes I think we can too! Let’s keep on keeping on! I’m 19 mos PO sleeve. 5’4 1/2 SW 238 CW 139. Window 130-140. How far PO are you?
  6. So I’ve never been one to not eat healthy. I gained 80lbs because of health issues in just a couple years. I was super fit and a personal trainer before that. I had surgery in December 2019. I mainly eat protein naturally. Is it important to eat more protein for a reason? I notice I can’t eat much more than the protein anyways?

    lean muscle mass building

Hi I'm new here. I have had gastric bypass 10 months ago. Since I started working out over a month and a half ago intensely doing an hour and a half of cardio and a half hour of weights I have not lost any weight. I am curious of why that would be happening

Full liquids I can only get in an oz. I have little 4oz yogurts (noose brand) and I can only do 1oz also. Water is the only liquid I drink with no type of sweetener in it and I can drink a 12oz nestle bottle in two hours and be comfortable if I push it any faster I’ll feel like liquid in my throat and burp a lot. I had the sleeve. I think with RNY ur fluids go through faster right? So that’s why u can handle more. With the sleeve ours has to sit until the cable opens. Idk what it’s called I forgot. Starts with a p I think. As where RNY bypasses that part and goes straight through. My surgeon really pushes sleeve only. He is getting patients that had bypass 10-12 years ago and even 5 years out they r having to be converted to duodenal switch. His nurse that has been working with him for many years has had multiple twisted bowels and blocked bowels with her bypass. And unless it s center of excellence or an accredited teaching surgeon. The surgeons lose contact with there patients after the first year. My surgeon has follow up and blood work every 6 months after the first year to year three. And then after year three every year.

    Question on "3 week stall"

the biggest drop in weight is usually the first month. And yes - it does slow down after that. I lost 16 lbs the first month, then 10-12 lbs a month for awhile. I had another drop after the six-month mark - and then it REALLY slowed to a crawl after the year mark. and yes - you will experience stalls along the way. Almost all of us do.
  12. I had RNY July 2019 and I'm down about 130 lbs total from pre-surgey 311 lbs to current weight of 182 lbs. In the last week I've gained 4 lbs (178 to 182). I'm trying to catch my mistake now to prevent the scale from going up any further. Im watching my portions, counting calories and carbs, and drinking most of my Water. Im not doing anything different than I was doing when I was losing. I can accept a stall, but I'm terrified of regaining just 7 months out. I had hernia repair surgery on 12/31/19, so I'm still unable to exercise for another few weeks. I managed to lose about 10 lbs during January after surgery without exercise. February has been a rough start for me though. Have any of you experienced a gain like this throughout your journey? I've stalled in the past, and I have even gained a lb or 2, but gaining 4 lbs is scaring the hell out of me. Overall, I know I've been successful, but being obese my whole life makes me not trust myself when it comes to health and nutrition. Please give me words of advice to get me through this. I feel so confused reading the threads sometimes... eat more, eat less, watch carbs, carbs don't matter... I just don't know what to believe.

  14. I'm with ya, my friend. Yes WA state. This weather (pretty much rainy and gray 10 months of the year!) generally doesn't effect me - moved here nearly 9 years ago but have been on antidepressants for over 20 years. I did just return from Cali celebrating my mom's birthday. I did enjoy the sunshine. Could be that I'm a little down being back at work, plus work itself has been more frustrating than usual this week. Plus I have a stupid cold sore or acne or something that I've messed with and now that area of my face is totally swollen! It hurts, plus I'm extremely embarrassed. I'm not too sure if the PS is playing a role in my issues because I only had my arms done and I'm doing fine with all of that. I can see where your TT is still wreaking havoc for you. Plus the fact that you were running a lot before and now you're not would certainly factor in. I agree, we need to be kind to ourselves and ride this wave and focus just one day at a time. Being hard on ourselves will likely make it worse, at least that's what I've experienced during my overweight years. We've got this - even though I am now going to crawl into bed and try hard not to cry. Xo
  15. I took a break from extended fasting (24 hr wet fast then 18hr modified fast) because my weight dropped to quicky (10 lbs in 2 days) Most of it was swelling/water weight but I want to be careful also I dialed it back to 14hr modified today and will start 18hr again tomorrow night 🌈

Swimming - 3.5 weeks after sleeve op

My surgeon gave me the go ahead to swim/hot tub at 10 days post-op, so go figure. I waited a while as scars still looked a bit red. At 3 weeks I am ready to hit the hot tub.

    The Maintenance Thread

Love reading all the posts here. I've been basically maintaining the past two years or so. I'm still 10 pounds away from my goal, but I just was never able to hit it. I seem to lose and gain the same 5 pounds over and over again... but I just can't get to 160. It's so much harder now that my body really doesn't reject any food anymore, I have to have 100% willpower to not eat bad on my own. I think maybe I just have a case of the winder blah's. I haven't been to a gym since my surgery so I prefer outdoor activities. With the cold winter weather I've been hibernating more than anything. My biggest issue is getting enough water. I get so full from my coffee in the morning (I tried giving it up, it wasn't pretty) but it takes me hours to drink it... then I go home I usually have a Bang in the late afternoon (yes I know, energy drink = horrible even if it has no calories and sugar). Some days I have ZERO water!!! The crazy thing is that before surgery I ONLY drank water (gave up soda 25+ years ago) and now I rarely have water. I really need to work on that. Maybe I should grab some hint water right now... sigh
  18. Just an update. I was 236 lbs in 7th grade. Went as high as 340 in early 20's. March of 2019 I was weighing 280. Started 2 week preop diet at 274. Surgery was 7-23-19 and now 6.5 months later I am 173lbs. Initial goal was 175 (5'7") but still have some more to lose so setting goal around 165 before I start trying to add some muscle back. Stayed around 600 cal and 60g protein for about 4.5 months then tried to up it around 800 and 100g protein, that seemed to work ok. Occasionally I'll hit 1000 but other days struggle to get 600. Very little hunger, just know when I NEED to eat. Food just not that important to me anymore. Still foamies and throw up when I eat to fast. Very little I can't eat, haven't really tried breads or pastas though. Heartburn got bad had to start omeprazole again. Helluva year, ruptured aortic aneurysm last January with aortic valve replacement, sleeve in july, vasectomy in December and new baby boy 12-31! Just wanted to offer a little encouragement to those considering this or new in the process. No regrets, sure sometimes I miss sitting down and gorging but I just try to remember what it felt like afterwards. Lots of positives, clothes that fit right, chairs that seem to big, etc...sucked to get rid of perfectly good clothes that were never wore and by the time you try to wear something else, it's to big. Nice trade off I guess. Anyway, just my story. I'm almost 44 and wish I'd done this sooner. Just like everyone else I had my doubts before surgery but it was definitely a good choice.

    Itching at incision sites

Gastric RNY 1/27...This is exactly what I am going thru right now itching all over my body. I have broken out on my arms, legs, face, back and it’s nonstop itchy! I took benedryl and been through two tubes of cortisone 10. I just emailed my doctor told her we have to figure something out bc now I can’t sleep..I’ve been reading up on this and it’s stating it’s common due to allergic reaction to the surgical glue. I went and got some 100% aloe to help give little relief any suggestions? Do you think I should ask for prednisone bc I’ve seen others say that’s what’s helped with this same issue?? Anyone else out there with any suggestions??

    February Surgery ?

Good luck! My pre-op is less restrictive than some, but I am still getting sick of the protein shakes. Everything is too sweet! I did find some with 30 g of protein that I have frozen to a slushy state and eaten as dessert: Premier Protein Caramel and the Banana Crème. They are unbearable (to me) unless I freeze them, but it is a break from chocolate/vanilla. Can you have clear liquids? Bone broth gives me a bit of a break. I'm wondering about it post op, too. I'm on all liquids (so shakes are the main source of protein) from day 2 until 10; I had bought some crème of chicken soup from Bariatric Pal with 15g of protein; I'm hoping I can have them when I'm off clear liquids, just as a break from all that sweet. Good luck! For me the first 4 days were the worst, but then I got the flu and had to extend my surgery out another week.

    Carbohydrates

I am 5 or so months preop, just started actually, and I am told to limit under 10 per meal. Tracking to show Surgeon on future appointments.

Anyone a few years after bypass?

I think you will know in 10-15 years if your nutrition is OK. It's going to be different for everyone. I was told that I would take vitamins for the rest of my life.
  23. I plan to retire to the Philippines in 10-15 years. Is managing the nutrient malabsorption an issue many years after surgery?

    January 2020 Surgery Date

Today I felt hunger for the first time in 10 days! Dangit! I was hoping it would never come back. I was out running around most of the day, stopped by a friend's house for lunch (I brought my own soup to sip), ran errands, and by the the time I got home 6 hours later, I was hungry, not head hunger, but in my tummy. It kind of scared me, if you know what I mean. Oh no, I thought, the hunger is back. But, to my pleasant surprise, after sipping about 1/2 cup of soup with protein powder, it was completely gone! When did you first feel hunger, or have you yet?

    Feeling sick here and there.

I had surgery 11/15/19, and I don't drink anything or eat anything with sugar. That I'm aware of anyways. I'm not a sweets person. But I've had 3 episodes in the last few weeks. Not sure what's causing it. And I read that you need to go to the Dr when you're having an episode/symptoms otherwise it's hard for them to diagnose it. But it hits me randomly and it hits me pretty hard to where I had I'm out for the count the rest of the day with feeling sick and dizzy 😷 it's a horrible feeling 😒 . Glad I'm not alone.
