  1. Dont worry...I had scrambled eggs about 4 days after surgery. I posted a similar post to yours worried that I ruined something and feeling guilty. You will be fine. Just get back on track and follow the doctors instructions. The crazy thing is that every dr. seems to be different in their post op instructions. Some people are cleared to eat solid food after a week. Get back on track and you will be fine. Congrats on surgery! I wish you much luck in your journey!
  2. Thanks everyone! I feel so much better now that I know I am not the only one kinda feeling rundown. I just got done going to get shorts for my son for his PE Program, ran by the library so he could get some books, got groceries, cooked Breakfast for son and husband for the week and lunches for my husband for the week (who, unfortunately, is sick right now ) and I am pooped, but feel good that I just got it all done and didn't take five hours doing it... I am probably going to hit the sack real soon. Thanks again, Michele
  3. I was sleeved 7/17/13 and I have been a roller coaster of emotions. At first I was waking up at night in a hot sweat just feeling in a total panic, I would think "omg I ruined my life". That has seemed to be a little better. I did wake up this morning feeling anxious, no sweats just general anxiety about getting all my protein and water in. I went back to work last week and that has helped, but in the midst of my first week back I had a bad reaction to Cipro and my feet swelled and that made work hard. I can't put my finger on exactly what I am anxious about, I think it is just a huge change and I want so bad just to feel normal. Anyone else go through this?

    Post op walking

Took me over 24 hours to walk at all and at first I had to use a walker. I had intense, awful, ripping belly pain for about a week post-op. By 3 days post-op I could walk without pain, just had to go through the pain of standing up first haha. Everyone's different.

    Post op walking

I got up the second they gave me the okay. Did two laps around the floor. No discomfort at all. The next walk (every two hours after) I did three laps, independently. They helped unhook me and sent me on my way. Honestly, it was that painless. I wish the very same for you!

    Post op walking

I was walking around same day. The hospital I was at had a lovely little recovery garden that made it more compelling. I was planning to go back to work after a week but postponed because while I could walk and was mobile, I was exhausted and could really feel I needed a break to recover. I’m half way through my second week off.

    Scared of Complications now

It's only been a few days since my sleeve but all is going well. I am self pay so I understand your concerns. Be sure you have a very experienced surgeon; mine only does bariatric surgery in a center of excellence. He overstitched the staples and says this all but eliminates the risk of leaks. I thought I would be out of work for one week, but my doc says not to drive for 2 weeks. I plan on doing about a half days work from home next week just so I don;t fall so far behind. I also find that I am not rebounding as quickly as I did when I was younger (I'll be 60 next month). Good luck on your journey.

    gained weight

I got my first adjustment last week. I go for another in 3 weeks. I don't feel the first fill did anything so I am anxious to see what the 2nd will do. You say you get adjusted every 2 months. Can the adjustments stretch?
  9. I'm having the same exact issue as you. My surgery was on the 10th and I feel great except for the largest incision which like you said is sunken and I get a horrible burning, tearing, stinging sensation when I move in almost any direction. I can't stand erect, I have to hunch over slightly which hurts my lower back. The pain meds really don't touch it to be honest. I called my doctors office yesterday and they said this was not uncommon and the pulling sensation could last for weeks but the pain would slowly get better. I'm with you though, if it still hurts this bad by next Monday, there's no way I could go into work. Right now it's a challenge just to take a shower. It's really annoying because otherwise I'm doing really well!
  10. I'm seven weeks post op and I have been living in a variety of maxi dresses! I bought several on clearance at "Ross" before surgery. I wear scrubs to work and have already gone down one size. I happily pull those draw strings tighter each week. I did have to buy a pack of panties and wearing the "as seen on tv" bras that someone mentioned above, or sports bra. I figured between the maxi dresses and scrubs, I could go for a while before having to buy new clothes. Trying to extend the budget as long as I can. Although, I can hardly wait to go shopping and really like it in the months to come!
  11. 7 weeks post op and I've only been buying dresses (except for a smaller bra and pack of panties). We were warned at our pre op class to be prepared for nothing to fit for long; they said you could get something on Monday and it would be too big on Wednesday. I figured dresses would be more forgiving. They might end up fitting really loose, but they probably won't fall off!
  12. OK oK I lost 29 on the 2 week pre-op diet but still I am excited!! BMI under 50 now!! Jerry

Oh Cigna, you sons of bitches.

The reality may be sad but it does not change. In medicine (any aspect of medicine) you cannot save everyone. It just doesn't work and that's not how life works and it's not how business works. If you were the organ transplant coordinator and you had one liver and three people. How are you going to justify letting two go without? Sometimes you just don't have a choice. You can give it to someone who has a 65% chance of surviving six months or you could give it to someone who has an 85% chance of making it 30 years. How are YOU going to tell the person with an 85% chance of survival that the other person is someone's child? Everyone is someone's child.
  14. Where do I start. I guess to just jump in with a robust HELLO! I'm 57, weigh 341# and have been gaining weight steadily for the last 2 years. Lots of factors: closed business of 30 years, moved for first time in 30 years, a series of 2 HORRIBLE, stressful jobs (have a great one now) and finally a fall in April of 2008 (I actually tripped over a speed bump in the parking lot of costco while trying to walk and get my membership card out at the same time). I landed almost entirely on my right knee cap. Didn't break it, but might as well have for all the pain and damage it caused. Flash forward to November 2008. We've farted around with PT etc. and nothing is helping. I suggest a bilateral MRI, we get it done and WOW, both knees are completely shot with osteoarthritis! I mean I qualify for bi-lateral total knee replacements. I hadn't really had any symptoms before the fall. Now I'm barely ambulatory and just getting washed up, much less showered feels like an Olympic event. So the suggestion of finding the time to get to the pool, undress, walk/dog paddle, play around and then get out of a wet suit that's 2 sizes too small, dry all the parts I have to dry with a hair dryer that aren't hairy, powder all those dry places so they don't start a fungal farm, struggle back into my clothes (it's so much fun pulling clothes on over the damp parts you didn't/couldn't get dry:o), limp out to the car and drive back to work where the only way to get to my office is up 7 steps to the loading dock, take the freight elevator to the kitchen, walk through the kitchen, back down 7 more stairs and then 3 more on the way to my non-handicapped accessible office (or take 3 flights of stairs up from the parking lot). So after another night of sleeplessness, I woke up and decided to have the lap band procedure. Wait:omg_smile: you're thinking now, that I've got my body parts mixed up! It turns out that to get new knees, the docs like to have you loose weight first. Apparently if they give you new knees that are supposed to last 20+ years and you loose weight, the implants get loose. Yikes! There goes the warrenty. So in two weeks I get a series of 5 weekly injections in both knees of artificial lubricant that is supposed to reduce inflammation and pain so that I can become more mobile and perhaps loose weight. Well, I know I can't loose weight with knees that don't hurt. I've tried for years. I need help. So here I am! I have 4 children, two bio-daughters who are almost 28 and 30, and two about to turn 11 and 12 that we adopted when they were 3 and 3 1/3 from China. I'd REALLY like to be around when they adopt their own children from China (which they've both said they'd like to do! My Mom was 72 when we made our second trip the China to get our son, and she got so many compliments from the Chinese people on how wonderful she looked for someone of her years. She's my inspiration. If she can do it with two new knees, I can too. Oh, I forgot. Both little kids want very much to visit China. I told them when I could walk to Margaret's house, we'd go. Margaret lives 3 1/2 miles away. I'm feeling like it's all within reach today, and yesterday I was ready to curl up in bed and order delivery food until I died in my sleep. Everything seemed so hopeless. I'm living in Grand Rapids, MI now. Anyone have any experiences, good or bad with docs, hospitals, surgery and support care in GR? I'm also curious, I'd read a little blib somewhere that there were "life-time" negative consequences to the lap band proceedure. Anyone know what that's about? Hugs to all you wonderful folks. Has anyone ever been through this?

I WAS BANDED DECEMBER 4 AND I HAVE FELL OFF. I HAVE BEEN GOING TO SUMMER CLASSES FOR COLLEGE BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN PUSHING MYSELF TO GRADUATE IN MAY OF 2009. I HAVE STOPPED GOING TO THE GYM BECAUSE IM SO TIRED. I GO TO SCHOOL FULL TIME AS WELL AS ATTEND CLASSES FROM 6PM TO 10PM. WHEN I GET HOME I EAT SOMETHING FAST AND QUICK SO I CAN GO TO SLEEP.YOUR NOT THE ONLY ONE, YOU JUST HAVE TO SET IT IN YOUR MIND THAT YOU WILL GET BACK ON IT AND MAKE A GOAL. MY GOAL IS SET FOR NEXT WEEK WHEN MY CLASSES ARE OVER.
  16. I was sleeved on the 6th Novrmber. Down 50lbs. Your weight loss is fantastic for a low BMI!! I dont think you need to change a thing!! Maybe re-evaluate after you go through a stall? I also have no restrictions on carbs. I do try to keep them low but I often have bread or cereal for breakfast. Cutting them out completely is setting yourself up for long term failure in maintenance stage
  17. I was floored to read the scale... In 2 weeks (since preop) I have dropped 30 pounds!!! Honestly I figured maybe 12-15 but 30! Just wanted to brag a little...

    What are your NSV's ???

The scale for me has stopped within the last 3 weeks....and I was bummed!!!! But i dont know i guess my body is trying to catch up with the weight loss because within the last week or so I have had to make a hole in my belt, my fitted shirts are no longer fitted, I can fit my nephew in some of my pants with me, and two days ago I was driving with my hand out the window and my watch shifted, I can now fit a finger between my watch and my wrist, which before I had to kinda squeeze my watch shut! So i guess pounds don't mean everything! Congrats to u all!! My 2nd fill is next Thursday hopefully I will feel some restriction!

    Crackers

I'm 4 weeks out and eating wheat thins with soft cheese. I make sure to chew very well to a mush before swallowing and have had no problems. They seemed to do the trick in eliminating those awful loose stools...TMI...lol
  22. AmyJ, Hope you are feeling better. You have lost 21# :thumbup1:? !!!!! Hang in there! TexasT, OK have to ask; I too am a tea-alcoholic( just regular Lipton no fancy stuff for me)! Did you switch to decaf?? I am weaning myself off of regular and miss my caffeine. Besides sugar it is the only "vice", if can call it that, I have left. How did the port removal go? I have a realize port and am concerned because it is attached with surgical clips not sutured in place. Getting my unfill next week, concerned I will gain too much weight back. already up 5 # my jeans are getting tight!!! :scared0: No way going to buy a bigger size... D.

    Weaning Off Caffeine...

I have to agree with Gene above. I was so addicted to caffeine it wasn't funny! I'm talking 5 to 8 cups of coffee, plus anywhere from 6 to 8 cans (or more!) of diet soda a day addiction! I kicked the caffeine habit cold turkey and had the headaches and the irritability for almost a week, but it was worth it. Now I am kicking the carbonated beverage addiction (good bye caffeine free diet sodas) and this is going a lot easier than I thought it would. Hang in there! The headaches will go away in the next few days and you'll be over an addiction you may not have realized you had with caffeine!

    Numbness

I don't have numbness in the same places, but I do get numbness a lot through my arms, shoulder, handsand waist, lower back and butt which is actually just caused by being in the same position all day at work. I go and get massages and chiropractic adjustments once every week or so which causes the numbness to go away. For now it's the only way I've found to alleviate the numbness. I am hoping yours is just a quick fix like mine. I wouldn't stress about having a tumor but definately a good idea to go and have it checked out.
  25. Just got home from my 3 week postop checkup. I lost 25lbs since surgery on 6/11/13. Im so excited to move my ticker! LOL. And I can now start trying more solid foods! Yeah! Baking Tuscan seasoned salmon tonight!
