    Nervous about revision

Hi there, I have my band out and revision to bypass a couple of days after you, on 14th. Like you, I am nervous but pretty excited. Nervous about the post-op week (my surgeon only does this by open surgery) and the recovery from that. But after that the exciting bit starts!
  2. Greetings...Had my band in 2006. Did well 256 lb. to 175lbs. Loved it but then started having problems. Gained back all. 45 lbs. I am now going to have a revision to the bypass on Wednesday. Nervous. I have been drinking protein shakes 2 a day and a lean supper with veggies. I have lost about 8 lbs in a week so hopefully I will be good. Can't wait to not have reflux and sliming.

    RNY November

I am 63 and having revision from lapband to bypass on 12/14. I wish your family would be more supportive. This surgery will change your life in such a positive way. So wish I could have had it younger. I'd go for it, so you can enjoy life with your kids. You will feel so much better.
  4. Just by coming on here and spilling your guts, so to speak, you know you want to solve this. You took the first step, now take the second one - you know what to do. Action precedes motivation. Do something, change something - #1 stop going to DD!!! Make your own coffee w caramel premier protein, #2 - track your food intake, even the bad stuff, #3 - protein first, then veg, #4 - vitamins, #5 - water. Counseling might be a good idea, or group support at least, or appt with a NUT. Come on here to vent. Go look at your before pictures, and now - pat yourself on the back - you did this! And you can revise and get back at it. Go did out your before jeans and try them on - do you want to go back to that?

7 week Sleeve to MGB before/after pic

My high weight was 269. I had the sleeve that cause my reflux to get worse and I could not lose any weight. Since The mini gastric bypass I am down to 163 my lowest weight since high school long ago. I fit into a size 10 business suit today and just about cried. They left photo was taken right before my revision surgery and the right one last week.

    Change of surgery?

I went into my first appointment wanting VSG but left set on RNY. My surgeon said he personally doesn’t think VSG is a great fit for most people, especially patients who are morbidly obese. He said that the gold standard is the RNY and that his patients tend to do better long term going that route. I also have severe acid reflux and GERD so he said VSG would make that worse (I can’t even imagine it worse than it is now!) but he told me that RNY can most of the time completely take care of it. So it was a no brainer after that that I would just do gastric bypass. After reading of so many people who have had to get revisions from VSG to RNY it helped reinforce that decision too! I hope that helps a little, either way it is great to ask questions and research both to see what you think will be best for your body!

    RNY November 2017

It’s by far the best I’ve had. Since surgery all the shakes taste so sweet and awful. This has been such a depressing time for me. So the soup made me happy HW 367 SW 346 Revision from band to gastric bypass RNY on 11/6/17

    RNY November 2017

Some hospitals have their own financing or take care credit. I would look into it. They are usually low in interest or no interest if you pay off the amount in the time allowed. HW 367 SW 346 Revision from band to gastric bypass RNY on 11/6/17

    Anybody Reschedule Their Date?

Yes. Originally I was scheduled for 7/18/17 but I was moving that next week and since you can’t lift more than 5lbs I needed to be rescheduled. Was revised on 8/8/17. Easy peasy.

    December 2017 Gastric Bypass!

I'm scheduled for a revision from lap band to gastric bypass on Dec. 12th. Would love to stay connected, but I'm also new on here and need to know how to go about staying connected.

    I'm 60 +

My edema was so bad the skin on my shins is damaged. My Dr. said it's like scar tissue and probably permanent. Oh well, I can live with that and saggy skin, I just want to feel more comfortable and have more energy. I do water aerobics now that I'm retired, and have stuck to the low carb since October 1st. Since revision from lap band is more complicated than just bypass, my surgeon wants me to get rid of as much belly fat as possible. It's a daily fight for sure, because I'm such a sugar addict. I could live on sweets[emoji22]
  14. Hi there! I am scheduled for Revision from lap band to gastric bypass on Dec. 12th. I am sooo nervous! I'm self paying so I'm going to Mexico, alone, for the surgery. Can anyone give me some information on how you are doing after your revision, like the recovery period and how much you have lost. I'm really nervous because I was a complete failure with the lap band and I don't want another failed surgery. Any support I can get will be so appreciated.

  16. Hi there!! This is my first post here. I am scheduled for revision from lap band to gastric bypass Dec 12th in Tijuana with Dr Coravala in Angeles hospital. Has anyone else used him? Also, can anyone give me more information on how you are doing after the revision? I’m very concerned because I know it has a higher risk of complications.

    Can’t take this anymore

Ultimately, no one knows what surgery is truly best for them until they actually have the procedure. I got my lap band in June 2017, and I love it. Despite all of the horror stories and raging against the band that I have seen, I knew that more invasive procedures would not be right in my case, and so far, my band has worked perfectly. Maybe the band was not the right option for you, but you should be absolutely certain before you have another procedure. Perhaps try the pre-op diet for two weeks to see if it re-starts your weight loss. If not, then you should talk to your doctor about having the revision.
  18. very very very bad idea. Lap bands have terrible complications and as of right now a 50% failure rate. the odds are extremely high you will do irreversible damage. there are Bariatric patients out there who have done band over RNY (never heard it for sleeve) and they can never have another revision because it could be fatal for them. my local center of excellence currently has an 80% removal rate...80%. there are countries that have banned the band. the conventional revision path from a sleeve for lack of weight loss is either RNY or DS (the sleeve is the first stage of the DS). Honestly, I"m shocked any doctor would recommend a band. my doctor says any doctor still putting them in should be sued for malpractice.
  19. I am on the same journey. I lost 56 pounds with my lap band but gained it back, plus more. I now have Barrett's Esophagus from gerd and a hiatal hernia, probably from getting food stuck and throwing up daily. My revision to bypass is scheduled for 12/14/17. I hope you don't have to wait too long. Good luck[emoji255]
  20. I agree it's a really important part of the journey. I have a lap band and was very unsuccessful. I'm now scheduled for revision to bypass next month. I have been through an eating disorder program and feel like I now have the tools to be more successful this time. Sadly I am now 63 and the support groups at the eating disorder clinic aren't covered by medicare. I wish I could find a once a week support group instead if once a month.
  21. My revision. Was done in one procedure on 8/31/17. My surgeon predicted 45 min for everything and I woke up in my room and family told me took 2. 5 hrs. Had so much scar from band collar and esophagus was torn. And I had a very experienced surgeon and he told surgeon who put in my band placed the collar too high on esophagus. Not to scare you but it really depends on what they find when they get inside. My doc didn't anticipate any complications because I was healthy and other than band being too tight, had no other complaints!
  22. I just got revised and unfortunately had to qualify all over again! Doc saw I was losing weight and said to stop and also no preop diet. Bmi had to get to 35, then of course knees hurt etc in order to justify them paying for it! I met a lady who said she had to fight for years to get them to cover her revision

    Reflux post op

I had reflux before my sleeve in 2013, was stable on Prevacid at the time. Seemed to do fine until about a yr ago. Now my GI doc has me on 3 different reflux meds. I went back to my Bariatric surgeon and he’s doing to do a revision to RNY. My reflux has cause severe damage to my esophagus because the lower end is weak and the valve doesn’t close to keep the acid in my stomach. I have made all the dietary changes and sleep elevated- still have symptoms daily.
  24. I just had my band revised to a sleeve. I am day 3 post op and soooooo nauseous 🤢 I can barely eat and my belly is so upset. I threw up yesterday, that was awful. Today I managed a few sips of the protein drink and a few sips of water. I feel like I am never going to feel better. Please tell me it gets better Ughhhhh
