Yogurt options pre-op
Simply_Divine replied to BlessedMomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I may actually have to try this because I HATE Greek yogurt! I don't like the texture & it's a bit too tangy, but the idea of the jam and Splenda May just work for me. -

I don't like Greek yogurt either, it's too tangy for me. I like the ones with fruit. Dannon is my favorite, but I know I've got to try something with less sugar. -
Popcorn.. when did you start eating it
OutsideMatchInside replied to princessK23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes I wish I liked yogurt but I would starve to death on water before I eat it. I wasn't super crazy about it after surgery, but post-op it is nastiest thing on earth. The peanut butter Quest powder is really good. You can make awesome cookies with it. You can also make your own ice cream. I did, when I was less lazy and halo top was harder to find. -
Hard time eating on the pureed stage
teacupnosaucer replied to Martinichic's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
this sounds exactly like me when I ate too fast, or a texture I wasn't ready for yet. I would get a terrible chest pain that took a moment then passed. never nauseous or regurgitated anything, it just HURT right in the centre of my chest. here are my suggestions to you: 1. buy yourself a smaller set of silverware and a small plate to help you adjust to eating small bites. I've heard the size of your pinky finger tip. sometimes you just have to trick your brain with an optical illusion to help you relearn what size bites are really right for your stomach. 2. use a timer to time your chewing. Baritastic is an app that has a "chew chew chew" timer built right into it. use the timer and make sure you are chewing that entire time, even if the sensation starts to be kinda gross. you will eventually be able to chew a BIT more normally, but for now you really need to destroy everything that goes into your mouth. 3. PUT YOUR FORK DOWN between bites. do not chew, swallow, put more in the your mouth, because you'll think you're taking your time but you may be eating wayyyyy faster than you perceive yourself to be. (this is especially true of moms or teachers or nurses or anyone who has had a lifetime of needing to eat fast and get onto the next thing ASAP... those habits die hard lol!) take a bite, put your fork down, chew, swallow, sit and breathe... then take another bite. If you are chewing slowly and small bites and still getting that sensation, take a break from the food that causes that sensation and try something else. the first time i got it was from some mashed potatoes. I stopped eating them, had something else, and didn't try them again for another couple weeks (since they're not that great of a food for you anyway). for something like eggs that fits well into your post-op diet, try them the next day or two days later maybe. you can also try cooking the eggs a different way. some people can't do scrambled eggs but can do poached, etc. tuna, if you haven't yet, try mixing it with some kind of sauce, whether that be light mayo or yogurt or vinaigrette or whatever else you like. I had mine with light miracle whip. -
Yogurt options pre-op

I hated every Greek yogurt I tried until I had the Oikos triple zero. While it isn't my favorite thing ever, I actually like the taste. Sometimes I'll add a spoon of pb fit to the banana yogurt. While I'd obviously rather have pizza, for the amount of health benefits and protein from eating the yogurt, I can deal! -

You could also take a scoop of peanut butter, mix with however much Fage plain yougurt and then get it close to freezing. I use whey protein powder and Fage. One scoop and about 5 oz yogurt will give you 30-35 grams protein. Thats more than an entire pint of Halo. -
I am at the 6 month mark and have lost 90 pounds but I have been stalled for 4 week. I am exercising, not eating carbs., mostly protein, cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shakes, 1oz of nuts, not much of anything else.

day 2 of preop liquid diet and I messed up!
Savagegirl replied to erica2185's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Every pre-op diet is so different. Mine is 10 days and I'm allowed 3 protein drinks, 2 cups broth, 1 cup thicker soup like tomato, 1 nf yogurt and 1 oatmeal packet per day plus clear fluids. I've lost 10-12 pounds in 8 days and do feel hungry and light headed but shrinking my liver is worth it. -
100 pounds down in less than 5 months? Holy cow!
Tufflaw replied to Tufflaw's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks! I haven't updated it in a little while but I posted fairly regular updates at my post here: But in a nutshell - I've been eating a pretty similar diet ever since I got off pureed foods. Every single morning since the day after my surgery I have scrambled eggs. For the last few months it's two eggs with one ounce of shredded cheese. I usually get 32 oz of water in before lunch, I drink most of it during my drive to work. I eliminated certain things from my diet, including soda (and really all drinks except water); most processed sugars, rice, potatoes, bread, pasta. Lunch might be some sort of leftovers from home, or a tuna or chicken salad. I can stomach about 5-6 oz of food per meal. For a few days the other week I decided to add some cold cuts to my diet so I got some nice sliced ham, turkey and cheese and made little rollups for a couple of days and dipped them in mustard. I did 2 oz of each and it was great. This week I'm eating barbecued ribs I made in an electric pressure cooker, I made enough for 4 or 5 days and just bring one in and microwave it. Dinner might be similar to lunch, although I do try to be more "dinner like". I might have a sausage or two, I love the bacon and cheddar sausages from BJ's. I will either have two and that's my whole dinner (and really fills me up), or just one plus some roasted brussels sprouts. Tonight my daughters wanted to eat out so we went to Wendy's and I had a small chili. I sometimes make zoodles (zucchini noodles) and have that with chicken and some pesto, it's great. I have totally eliminated snacks from my diet. Some folks at work have little bowls on their desk with candy and chocolate, etc, I used to graze on it constantly. Now I never touch it, not even one hershey's kiss (and they do look good!) If I'm hungry between meals I'll have a greek yogurt (I love the Dannon's light and fit boston cream pie flavor), and recently I started having 1 oz of almonds every so often. For dessert I almost always have a jello sugar-free chocolate pudding and a few pops, either sugar free ice pops or sugar free fudge pops. My daily caloric intake is usually about 1100, sometimes a little more. The most important macro, for me, to keep low is my carbs. I don't really care as much about the calories or fat. Exercise - right now I'm in the middle of something at work which consumes my entire day, but ordinarily I go to a planet fitness near my office 2-3 times a week at lunch time to do the circuit training, and a few times a week I go to the planet fitness near my house at night and do the bike for an hour. I've been extremely lucky - no stalls. I weigh myself daily in the morning and have noticed, every so often, that I stay the same for a couple of days in a row, or even go up a fraction for maybe a day or two, but always start heading back down. Twice I've been bad. On my birthday I ate some ice cream cake and on my niece's birthday I had cake. I regretted it both times, felt really yucky and sluggish. Although if I recall correctly I lost weight the next day both times. Maybe the sugar shocked my body into boosting my metabolism (but I wouldn't recommend it). Good luck! -
Ricotta bake (theworldaccordingtoegghead.com), yogurt, soft fish, cheese, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, soups that aren't strained (yay!), vegetables cooked until they're very soft, like cauliflower or squash.

Sleeved on April 13th and oblivious what to do.
LSanchez238 replied to sc09's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would definitely try it. I use the Dannon Oikos triple zero blended Greek yogurt for protein. It has 15 g per container. Those are my snacks and help me reach my 70 g per day goal Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app -

I had the same problems with gas and air in the chest the first week or so. I was also having trouble getting up from my chair and sitting down... I was 488 lbs before pre-op diet. 467 lbs pre-op. I had my surgery on April 18th and managed fine. I drank clear liquids the first 5 days along with chewable multivitamin and chewable calcium tablets, then started with yogurt and mashed potatoes. I noticed each day I was getting my strength back. On the 6th day I tried beans from del taco and it had to be the best choice ever, my stomach tolerated them just fine, and I started getting relief from gas build up. I have lost 27 lbs since my surgery with minimal exercise. I walk and work. Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Protein and my sleeve's precious little space
Diana_in_Philly replied to TheRealSergio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 8 months out. My days vary, depending on where I am, but I either have a protein shake (if I'm in the car driving in the morning) or an Oikos yogurt for breakfast. (15-20g protein). Lunch is usually some protein - about 3 ounces and if I still feel the need to eat something, maybe some raw veggies - celery, carrots, sweet peppers. Morning snack is cheese. Afternoon snack is nuts. Dinner is whatever I make for my family - protein, veg, and a carb. Sometimes I have a bite of rice or potato, sometimes I don't. Like Outside said, you need to get your head in the right place. -
Egg salad, chicken salad, yogurt, chicken wing dip (Without the chips -- just eat with a fork), ricotta cheese, or just blend up whatever is on hand. I did an overnight oatmeal recipe too that was very soft.

Scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, chili, ground lean meat in pasta or taco sauce, lentils, soft fishes (oh god was salmon ever good after weeks of protein shakes!), yogurt and soups and protein drinks same as on full liquids.

No, I don't want no SCALE
NightPilgrim replied to NightPilgrim's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I knew this was going to happen... So after this discussion, I bought my scale. Was happy to discover 11 pounds lost in 11 days since surgery which blew my mind. Then the next day, another 2.5 pounds lost overnight. Wow but clearly unsustainable. Then today, (so much for only weekly weighing) I find I've gained 0.5 pounds since yesterday!! I know its only half a pound but suddenly am thinking...did I do something wrong? is this a flag? I'm 13 days out from surgery. I'm still only on full liquids and my diet is broth, soup (not cream soup, just regular ole veg soup), greek yogurt, some unsweetened apple sauce, 1 protein shake, and yesterday I also had 3x of these bariatric pal store protein products (1 soup , 1 fruit drink, 1 hot chocolate). Oh and a sh*t ton of water. Thats the only thing I did differently to the other days when maybe I only had 1 or 2 of the store bought protein products. I thought they would be helpful in getting protein in and staving off hunger... Realize that I now sound like the nutso saying this over half a pound... but the whole point of going down the scale route was to "listen to my body" to stay on track. Now I just want to make sure I understand what it's telling me. I keep repeating to myself... "This is a marathon not a sprint. Marathon not a sprint." -
Yogurt options pre-op
MelShea replied to BlessedMomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't like chunky fruit or slimey fruit in my yogurts so greek has been hard for me. So far the only one I like is the Yoplait 100 calorie protein greek yogurt. That's going to get boring fast. -

If it is because the texture is too thick, you can add just a bit of water and stir it well. It turns out to be just like regular yogurt consistency. Sent from my SM-G900T using BariatricPal mobile app -

I didn't like Greek yogurt either, until I did what my support group suggested. I got plain Greek yogurt with the lowest sugar content, also got sugar free Jam. I mix a spoon full of the jam into the yogurt, then I add a spoon or two of splenda (it wasn't sweet enough for me with just the jam). Once mixed, it taste like any other non-Greek (regular) yogurt. Very low in carbs, because you minimize the sugar. My group also suggested another Greek yogurt flavor by also getting plain and adding a spoon full of creamy low sugar peanut butter. It adds protein and also limits the sugar. Also, if it isn't sweet enough you can add splenda. At work, and at home I keep a the big baking bag of splenda (store the splenda in a tupperware container). EDIT: The added sweetness masks the tart associated with Greek yogurt. -

I used to hate Greek but have come to love it now. The Oikos Triple Zeros are really good. Chobani makes some great ones as well. You may want to consider some of the Greek whipped yogurts. Dannon has one that is only 80 calories (they call it their Light & Fit Greek Mousse). -

I don't like it either, due to the texture, but I did like the triple oikos Greek yogurt, by Dannon maybe??, ok. It was better than any others, if you stick with Greek -
I'm allowed to have yogurt during my preop diet. The nutritionist recommended Greek yogurt, I purchased it but can not stomach the taste! Did anyone eat regular low fat yogurt? If so what brand?
