I Love Having Water At Night Again!

I was revised back in July as well, I am struggling to get the last 10-15 pounds off you would think after 2.5 years with the lap band I would know how to eat. I had more success loosing weight with the band than I do now. Of course I could not eat anything with the band. What do you find is the difference in the weightloss?
  2. I had my band removed after 6 years and revised to a sleeve on July 10th. I can finally eat regular food only very small amounts. With the band I ate a lot of Ice cream and crunchy things,The only foods that I could tolerate. I waited a long time because I didn't think I would be covered for a revision. I am so happy that I finally had the surgery. 5 of my friends had the lap band about the same time as me. 3 had it removed and one was converted to gastric bypass.

    Surgeons Stats...

Revising a band isn't rare. Stanford (ca) recommend it to me because of my band issues. They made sure to walk my insurance through because my BMI was under 30. It is rare to place bands these days, at least at a hospital like Stanford which has experts in the field who are teaching doctors. My doctor did 3 revisions after mine on 12/15. But they also have a strong belief of taking the band out and allowing 2 months of healing prior to the next surgery.
  5. Wow, your stomach is your best feature?! Wanna trade? LOL The scars are really not bad, and some people I've seen in their after, a few years later you can barely see them.. they look like a freckle or something. I had revision surgery and they cut open an existing port scar, so it looks kinda ooky, but I don't care!!! I am 110lb lighter and that's a small sacrafice, right? I don't know if I ever worried about the scars.. maybe a little bit, but I was more concerned about not being fat!
  6. I have not been in to this site for a very long time. My band did NOT cure my obesity ( I am still a size 20 -3 sizes smaller than at my highest weight pre-band) but it cured my life long depression. I had my first band in 2003, revision in 2004 after I moved it by overeating. The second one I did not fill until 2 years after my surgery (was trying to have a baby, then was pregnant). My band expands to suit my needs. I can eat as much as any NORMAL person with no problem. This has not allowed me to lose a lot of weight, but the feeling of being normal, for the first time in my life, has actually changed my life. I am happy for the first time in decades. 30 years I struggled with my hunger, constant, painful, desperate, unsatiable urge to swallow, didnt matter what...never enough. And thanks to my band I finally have limits. The fog lifted and I am enjoying my life tremendously. Is it an ilusion? am i not willing to do the work and lose more weight? is it wrong to be enjoying this "freedom" to enjoy food with limits. My husband asked me the other day why I was not "using" my band if its there. I tried to explain that I am happy like this! But is the whole point of the band to be thin? Isnt being happy, healthy and fit ( and LOVING the lifestyle in the process) enough? What do you think?

    Date is Set! Bye-Bye Bandie.

MAN O MIGHTY you have had your share of it for sure!! My hubby had the Band for 13 years, they punctured it during his fill. Back to surgery he went. Now, he did lose 100#'s with his band. But his beginning weight was 520#'s. Now I'm not saying it was all from the band at that time. Fast forward to 2012ish he could not hold down even Water. He is a VETERAN so he went to the VA who sent him to a Bariatric Surgeon 2 hours from home. So in Sept they had planned to remove his band and his gallbladder, due to gallstones. Then revise him to a RNY. (which I had done July 2, 2013 and I have been very successful with mine) His band had eroded into his liver so they couldn't do the RNY. But told him that in 3 months they would finish the RNY. He developed abscesses and was so deathly sick for 9 months, 3 of which he doesn't even remember!! Oh course the Surgeon wouldn't do his surgery after all. He went to Portland, Oregon to an awesome Bariatric Center. By this time we found out that he has Kidney Cancer and they can't do anything for it until he loses 150#'s. So last June, we went to Juarez, Mexico. He went for the RNY but due to all of his past surgery's and his messed up band, his whole right side was solid scar tissue so he ended ugetting the Sleeve. He has lost 60#'s but he just can't fight the head hunger. The saddest part of all of this, was the Surgeon that talked him into the Band said he wasn't strong enough for the RNY. That man was so very strong and had just retired from his job!! I wish we al had a crystal ball back then it sure would have helped him out!! Now I didn't tell you all of this to scare you, I just wanted to vent AGAIN and to make sure that if you decide to go t0o Mexico for WLS please don't go thru BeLiteWeight. I have sense heard of many others having AWESOME AMAZING surgery's in Mexico just not where we went. It sure is much cheaper than the US but if we knew all about JUarez we sure woud have changed. The other sad thing is he has insureance that would pay for WLS, but he couldn't lose the amount of weight they wanted him to and get his A1C (diabetes 3 month of Blood Sugars) down to a 7 or 8. Good Luck and I look forward to following your post and watching you get healthy!! Thank you for listening.

    MN - Duluth/Superior

Well, I'll be joining Team Revision on October 29th. Found out my lap band was leaking in July after trying to figure out why I was gaining weight despite still eating and exercising the same. Began the process of revision to the sleeve. Got the approval on September 15th. Looking forward to getting this weight off and getting my body back. Will have Dr. Bettendorf at Essentia Health in Duluth.

    Pretty nervous...

So I'm not at goal yet but I'm having the extra skin on my stomach removed because it's giving me so much trouble. The surgeon said mine will be one of the largest he's done. My surgery is June 5th. I'm so nervous because it will be a 5 hour surgery and they had trouble waking me up from my sleeve surgery which was shorter. I woke up with the breathing tube in. Also he told me I have a higher chance of infection and wound complication because of my past history and some meds I'm on. It will be a 70 cm incision. I have to stop 2 of my psoriasis meds which also scares me. My psoriasis is pretty severe when not medicated. Even when medicated I can have our breaks. 3 times in my life, and each time worse than the last, I've ended up in the hospital with a really bad out break where basically all my skin comes off. Even with all these things I feel like I NEED this surgery to improve my quality of life. I'm almost down 260 pounds from my highest of 540 and my extra skin is pretty bad already. I can't do any of the other surgeries until I reach goal but this is one I can do part way. He's explained that I may need a revision tummy tuck when I reach goal since I'm still a little less than 100 pounds away from goal. Insurance approved coverage first try though which gives you an idea of how bad it is. I'm just nervous and excited at the same time. Has anyone had this surgery? What was your recovery like? What were your results? I don't do well with surgery generally. After the sleeve surgery I was kept 5 days instead of 2 and was in pain for 3 weeks. After my gallbladder removal I was readmitted to the hospital due to pain. They told me I wouldn't be able to save my belly button. So now I get to tell people I am an alien or was created in a lab..which I'm kind of looking forward to. Lol I'm so nervous but also so hopeful this will help...
  12. Best of luck to you! I'm sure it was hard staying in the hospital for so long, but glad to hear you are on the mend. I am having a revision surgery (though it is band to bypass). I've also had gallbladder surgery, so wondering just how much scar tissue there will be because of that and the band. I'm sure you will do great. Again, good luck!

    Tomorrow's the big day

Hi all, Well i survived my revision. I was in the hospital for 4 nights. There was scar tissue from when i had my gall bladder removed 35 years ago and working with the gastric bypass i had 15 yrs ago made it a 5 1/2 hr. surgery. I have a slight pain going on yet and still move a little slow. So, i am on the mend, listening to everything my doctor is telling me. I see the doctor and nutritionist august 26. i will finally go on to pureed food on Monday and i can't wait. i'm kind of tired of eating the same stuff on this liquid diet stage. Taking one day at a time. Thank you to all who have thought of me going into this surgery. It was a little rough at first, but each day gets better.
  14. I have read a lot of posts from non-revision rny folks about throwing up and having food get stuck. Is this the same kind of thing that I experience nearly daily with my band? I don't want to live a life of getting stuck, sliming, and puking with rny....is it different????
  15. I did not have a revision. I had Bypass and I love it. My blood work is fine and I don't have any malabsorption issues at this point. I don't have GERD either. I made this choice in part because I had pre-diabetes and the bypass has the best prognosis for remission. If I was already on my way to diabetes of course I wanted to avoid insulin shots if at all possible. Good luck. Your acid sound wicked, so sorry. Its hard right now but you will get there.
  16. I'm from Biwabik. Still trying to figure things out. My insurance will not cover this so trying to find someone that wants my money. Believe it or not some places don't take self pay for revisions-go figure.
  17. Congrats! Don't be scared. PLENTY of women don't wait the required 12-18 months. If you have had good progress with weight loss, life adjustment, psychological needs, etc that come with life with a band, then you can relax. I think the complaint I hear most from newly pregnant bandsters is they didn't lose enough weight beforehand, or they are scared of the weight gain that they worked so hard to lose. I got pregnant 8 months out after losing about 50 lbs. Depending on your restriction, your band doc can't "require" an unfill. This is your body and your baby and your choice of weight management. I had decent restriction but not overly tight prior to pregnancy and I haven't had tons of issues with the band so far, so I'm comfortable leaving the fill in as long as possible, hopefully the whole time. Some of us have VERY tight fills, and I think you may run into some issues if thats you. Other women found their band incredibly tight in the first few weeks and had to get unfilled simply to be able to eat at all. My advice would be to watch your band, if it gets too tight for too long, then unfill. I have days where mine is tight, others it's fine. I've never gone more than 1 or 2 days at a time with it being super tight, or I would unfill. Also, if you get major morning sickness, UNFILL! You don't wanna have to have band revision surgery due to a slippage.

    It Finally Happened

I am so happy for you. I am hoping to have my revision done the first of December. Iam ready to get rid of the lapband also.

    It Finally Happened

Good for you! I had my band revision to RNY on May 13,2014. Had the band since October 2007...bad experience for sure. The bypass is the best decision I have ever made for my health. I am down 85lbs (20 before surgery),not quite 6 months. I had a rough first month after surgery, but at week 5 everything fell into place. I have slowed down on weight loss the past 6 weeks, but it is still coming off about a pound a week. Rest up, do what the doc says and enjoy the journey.

    Second surgery!?!?

ouch that really sucks! I am hoping and praying that things clear up for you before it becomes necessary to revise it so soon!
  22. Hi everyone! I have my LapBand revision to sleeve next Tuesday. I'm starting my pre-surgery diet tomorrow. I'm starting to get more excited and nervous. Dr. Aceves will be my surgeon. For those of you who had him, can you tell me about cellular service at the hospital? I understand the hospital is very close to the border. Do you think I'll be roaming or charged for international usage if I use my cell phone there? Only one person knows I'm going to have the surgery, and I'm going alone. I don't want people getting worried if I don't answer my phone for an entire week. (I live alone, too, so my family checks on me every so often to make sure I'm okay.) Any thoughts? Closely related, I think the nurses will call someone when surgery is over to let my family know I'm okay. Is that correct? If so, I'll have them call my sister. She's the one person who knows I'm having the surgery. She's a nurse, too, and she's had the surgery, so she's been helping me about what to expect. Most of my questions now are specific to having surgery in Mexico and by Dr. Aceves. Thanks in advance!!

How Is Everyone Doing April Sleevers?

I was a revision from lapband to sleeve on the 3rd. I feel good! I'm down 16lbs. Still a little sore and bruised on my largest incision. I think also because the lapband was removed, I have swelling around the port area. I'm in the same boat, trying to get in my liquids...boy is that hard! Also, trying to keep up with taking my vitamins. Sometimes I miss eating...lol. My family had a get together over the weekend and BBQ'ed hotdogs and hamburgers...smelled SO good...but I was content drinking my protein shake. Cheers to Our Weight Loss April Sleevers!

    Advice.

Yes it's still a revision, first surgery with them but still a revision. If it was me, I'd get back in with my bariatric surgeon ASAP for a possible fill/unfill and to discuss options. You want her records to show that she is currently actively trying to lose weight... Good luck!!! Life without that stupid band is heaven!!!! HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 231.4
  25. Had my surgery on Monday the 14. My surgery took 5 HOURS!!! My husband was so worried. I had the band for 4 years and the doc said my scar tissue was really bad, even with having my band out 9 months ago. I also had a large hernia he repaired. He was very happy we didn't try to do the revision in one surgery. I wanted to post earlier but really didn't feel up to much of anything until this morning. I'm still here in the hospital because of the distance I live from the hospital but am being released today. My experience so far has been what I expected. I had my leak test yesterday which came back with no leaks, thank God!! I've had trouble getting in fluids...but I'm working on doing better. The cranberry juice and warm broth goes down pretty easily, as does chewing on ice chips, but the Water and crystal light isn't so easy. I do have to go home with a drain, an onQ pain pump and have to give myself lovenox shots....but I guess I'll get used to it all. I'll check in later! Crystal
