  1. Am on the soft foods since thu and while I have no problem at all eating I am so hungry on the 1000 calories….all I can think about is food Will start real food either fri or sat and wonder if it will be better I go back for my first fill on sep 23 and am worried that I won’t lose any weight by then and worried that the ten pounds I lost post surgery will be back\ It still hurts if a press on the incision sites and sometimes I get a slight pain in my rights side especial when I walk a lot or have to go to the bathroom

    Wisdom about the sleeve

    1. Listen to your body and stop eating when you are no longer hungry, not full or stuffed. 2. Fuel your body with healthy foods. 3. Exercise is key to losing weight and improving your health.
  3. The baby won't need much more that you are probably already eating. In the second trimester, they recommend you increase your calorie content by about 300...but the baby will take from YOU what he/she needs. Make sure you are taking a prenatal vitamin. Any will do, just if you take the gummies, you will also need an iron supplement. And drink a lot of water! Juice is also good while pregnant for a few extra calories. I eat several smaller meals a day now...I'm 20w4d...and I was able to avoid morning sickness completely. I've been told its because I physically can't gorge on a meal and HAVE to eat several smaller meals or snacks--that was preventing the MS. If you have been following the eating recommendations from your Lapband doc, you should be fine. Lots of protein, veg and fruit are good for you and the baby! That all being said, I'm having a girl and crave sugar alllllll the time now!! I try to eat more fruit because of it, but I'm giving in once in a while and eating that cookie or small candy bar. Oh, and gummy bears are my best friend. Geez!! Ha! All in moderation is ok. I've only gained one pound, so I guess it's alright. Let me know what other questions you might have! Not that I'm some expert, but I do know what you're going through! Sticky bean dust for you!!!

    Good Books on Lap Band

I found a book called recipes for Life After Weight Loss Surgery by Margaret Furtado and Lynette Schultz. One thing that I liked was the mashed califlower. I actually did a vlog about it on youtube. the book also has a lot of other good recipes and it tells you how many weeks post op you should be before trying each recipe. You can find the book on Amazon.

    Wisdom about the sleeve

I don't think either one keeps you from losing weight - I eat cheese every day and I continue to lose weight - and it doesn't bind me up as many say it does to them - when I was early out, string cheese was a lifesaver for me. I haven't been able to tolerate yogurt since surgery - it's a consistency thing for me - but Bearded eats a lot of yogurt and he's losing weight too.
  6. I've been gaining and losing the same pound for two weeks now, and am guessing this is the 3 month stall. What I'd like to know is how many of you experienced the 3 month stall, and how long you were stalled for. Thanks!

Five month stall and hair loss HELP!

I think it's fairly normal - I am between 4-5 months and my weight has been staying mostly the same for about 3 weeks. Granted I've had a lot going on (a flare up of auto-immune - steroids - and a death of an immediate family member) but still - stalls are frustrating a bit. When I have been paying attention to other things I noticed my body is really changing - my face and stomach are smaller. Have your measurements changed? now that my immediate trauma's are over it is time for me to get back to my main focus being on my diet (Protein protein protein) and moving my body. gentle yoga and walking for now. I hope to soon hear from you, and experience for myself, that the scale will be moving again too!

Stopped losing weight after week ONE?

Lots of doctors recommend not weighing for the first month because your weight can be so volatile and disheartening in the beginning. You'll be OK, just try to relax.
  9. I’m about to end week two. I’m on full fluids. I lost 15 pounds within the first few days after my surgery which ended as soon as week 2 began. It’s been exactly a week now and I haven’t lost a single pound. In fact I gained a full pound. All I’m consuming is premier protein shakes, and water. Why is this happening?

    Do I need a fill?

Hi guys! I remember about a month ago I found a post w/ a list of things that we should be doing to maximize weight loss as well as signs that let us know we do need a fill. Can anyone help me find it? Thanks!
  11. I am having a REALLY hard time choosing between having my band to sleeve revision surgery here on November 20th or in Mexico with Dr. A. Would love any input from others. I have so many Pros and Cons for each that my mind is just tired. If I go to Mexico I could have it with my wife the exact same day and we would be side by side every step of the way on this journey. However, I have already invested my time, emotions, and money (about $800) into having it here in the US. I am also VERY impressed with Dr. A in Mexico. We talked to him on the phone via FaceTime a few days and I was VERY impressed with him. When have you ever talked to your doctor on the phone? Personally, I have never talked to a US doctor on the phone in all of my 38 years. That was just a big eye-opener to me. He was so friendly, intelligent, and a joy to talk with (even though the call was with my wife). But on the flip side it is a little nerve-wracking to travel to another country to have such a major procedure done...and I won't be able to be right there waiting for my wife to come out of surgery if I am also undergoing the surgery the same day. So, we can't really take care of each other and help each other if we are having the sleeve done the same day. Another Pro to having it here is that it will be run through my insurance, so we have a few months before we get the bills AND we can then setup a payment plan. In Mexico it would all be due the same day...and even though it is much cheaper than here in the US it is still a lot of money to come up with all at once. I am also already a little envious of how awesome the BariatricPal Mexico team has taken care of my wife in regards to e-mails, phone calls, questions answered, etc. I don't get even 10% of that kind of specialized treatment from my weight management team and surgeon here in the US. And once she has had surgery and spent time in the recovery house I have a feeling I will be 100% envious of how awesome the Mexico team took care of her and I might even possibly regret having it here in the US...and I don't want that. Well, I guess I have done enough rambling. Just having a really hard time making the decision on what would be best for me and for us. So, if anyone has any advice I would much appreciate it. Thanks for listening.

    Frustration

Hi Baileymb, Now, that just sounds ridiculous. Why would your doctor be opposed to trying??? What is the hard of putting in the referral and seeing what happens? Does this doctor just wish to not waste his/her time? I have experience with the rollercoaster you are going through and happily it worked out in the end. My suggestion would be not to give up and don't let you doctor out of this one! If you employer says that it is covered, then the doctor should at least try on your behalf... Heck, to see you lose weight and get healthy... you doctor should be willing to help with an appeal if necessary. I hope it all works out, just don't give up!

    Question

For me, I had to keep getting fills(6) until I felt I couldn't handle any more without being too tight/restricted. At 6 I was getting stuck often but I was never hungry. So, after 3 months of this I decided I was too tight so I got an adjustment of .5 less saline. I felt satisfied but not for as long. The Holidays were coming up so I opted to wait it out and didn't lose any weight for 6 months. So, I got a fill 2 months ago and now I'm back in the green zone. My mistake of taking saline out cost me at least 6 months in my journey. What I thought was too tight was just me not eating small enough and chewing enough. I hope I learned my lesson. Eating properly has been the most difficult part of this journey. tmf

    Please Tell Me...

It really does get better. I was petrified that I would somehow stop my weight loss by eating "wrong." Actually, if you don't eat, what happens is your energy level gets crummy, you don't feel like exercising or moving around very much, and THAT sabotages your weight loss. I stopped thinking of food as the enemy and started thinking of it as fuel, and that really helped me both make good decisions about what to eat and to feel better about eating in general. I always think "burn, baby, burn" when I eat--just to let the food know it has a purpose, and I'm using it to help myself feel energized. Also, honestly, you're still pretty early out from surgery. Listen to your body and trust that it will let you know what it needs. Some people progress at slower or faster rates than the "norm." It all comes out okay.

  16. I am going through True Results Houston for the Sleeve and wanted to know if anyone has brought in their own Supervised nutrition visits from their Primary Care physician, instead of using True Results in house NUT and was approved through BCBS? I am trying to get around waiting the 6 months since I have had so many failed weight loss attempts.
  17. I guess when I go see the Dr for the 1st time, they will let me know what to do. I just do not want to spend a bunch of money at another weight loss program. Thanks so much!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

HELP! Not another weight loss program

@@Heatgirl03 A medical weight loss program can be pretty cheap. All that means is you are seeing a dietician or nutritionist and having regularly scheduled visit for weighs with a doctor. It will be covered under co-pays and help you meet your out of pocket. Where are you getting this information? Have you picked a doctor yet? The office where you are going to have surgery can best tell you what you have to do. If you have a high enough BMI a lot of these requirements are not necessary. A good Dr office can help speed the process along greatly.
  19. I contacted the insurance company and I read their requirements, I have an appointment with a Dr on July 21st. I was thinking, oh no! I've spent so much money on weight loss programs and it was a lot of money weekly. Does the Dr generally have a dietitian that you see? My BMI is over 40 so I'm hoping the process will not take that long. Thank You for letting me know!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Determining Ideal Weight...

another good part about not getting too thin off the bat is that maintaining 160's is much more pleasant and easy than maintaining 120's! the chance to regain weight is so much higher if you get very thin. My goal is to just maintain, no more yo-yo-ing for me
  21. Hello all I am three weeks postop and I have suddenly develop discomfort in my shoulder blades. It’s as if i extended both my arms and we’re moving them in a circular rotation for a very very long time and stopped. They are very sore and almost hurtful has anybody experienced this. Is it due to weight loss? I have lost 35lbs.
  22. Welcome, Chelle. I will first say that I did feel pretty good before surgery, although my labwork suggested otherwise. I had been obese for so long that I guess I didn't know better. Once I lost all the weight, I realized how "good" really feels! In answer to your questions: Taking meds: I did have to crush them for a couple of months and it is disgusting. Unfortunately, that's part of the process. I found that the quickest and easiest way was to simply put the powder on my tongue and wash it down with water. (I tried them in liquid, in yogurt, etc.--even worse.). After trying various multivitamins, I found that "soft chews" worked best for me. Even the so-called "chewables" in hard form made me gag. Water: It is indeed very difficult to get the full amount of water at the beginning, but it gets better over time. Bear in mind that protein shakes can count as part of the liquid requirement. Just do the best you can. I had a bottle of water with me all day long and took sips as often as I could. Liquid and puree stages: Yep, they are boring. I found, however, that I had no appetite whatsoever and had to force myself to get enough protein every day, so I didn't really care what things tasted like. If you mean "bland" as in not spicy, that is probably best in the beginning. I ate lots of non-fat Greek yogurt at the beginning, and I got really sick of protein shakes. Again, it's all part of the process and you will get through it. I've never heard of anyone having to "start over" after eating the wrong things during the puree stage. Some people talk about a "pouch re-set" when they stop losing weight, but that's more psychological than an actual physical issue. Good luck! I promise that you will look back in six months and wonder why you hadn't done this sooner!

    Never ending period

I got my first iud years ago and it caused me to spot and have extra periods almost constantly for the first three months. Now nine weeks post surgery I'm back to spotting frequently with all the extra hormones as I lose weight. HW-292 • SW (6/29/17) 256.6 • CW 219.8

  25. People are opinionated about everything. And obviously those guys haven't dealt with weight issues their whole lives or they would be more sympathetic to our plight! As for your family....my family would probably warn anyone they met about the problems with the band. I've had a VERY difficult journey and all of them want me to get it removed. But now that I'm through what I hope is the worst of the challenges, I am still glad I made the decision. Even though I'm not at my goal weight, I know I would never be in Onederland without it and would probably be well on my way up the scale! Besides how lucky are we that we have a tool to help us lose the baby weight!
