    Cholesterol

So i decided to order my own lipid panel last week to see where i am at 6 months post surgery with cholesterol levels. before surgery they were in the red. Very high where they were going to put me on medication. I got my results back today and all my cholesterol levels are in the green (normal range) gotta love it. But one thing that did come back high was something called bilirubin. It involves the liver mainly (Gall bladder too) By levels before surgery were normal. So will show them to my surgeon in 2 weeks when i have my 6 month follow up and see what they say. My surgeon sent me off today to get vitamin blood test done so i am curious to see how they come out and see if my iron (which was slightly low) has gone up with the extra iron supplement i am taking.

    Hunger Day of Surgery

I felt hunger pangs, too. But, I actually wasn't sure if it was hunger, or just surgical pain. I'm 6 days out from my gastric bypass. Still feeling hungry sometimes - but not like I was in the hospital. From what I understand, for some of us, we won't stop feeling hungry until we start actually eating food. I have 1 more week until I start purees.

    Hiccups

Our digestive tracts are mucous membranes. When a mucous membrane is exposed to an irritant, it creates mucous - hence the foamies. So, your body thinks that whatever you're eating is an irritant - perhaps put that particular food away and try it again in a few days or a week. Two bites sounds about par for the course, when you first start eating. I could be wrong, but I'm thinking that the hiccups are because you're actually full.

    July 2022 peeps!

I'm glad you both busted through your stalls. I don't know if I ever had a stall, but weeks 2-3 were definitely slow for me. Finally, after week 4, I had to stop weighing daily or I would have gone nuts. LOL. I have definitely lost some inches. I had some 3XL shirts that are piled up and ready to be given to charity. Even some of my 2XLs are getting baggy on me and will be added to the stack. I'll be unpacking some XL shirts soon that I haven't seen in years. I haven't run a tape around my waist since early September, but at the time I had lost 9 inches since I had measured in mid-May.

    July 2022 peeps!

My surgery was July 20th. In the first few weeks I posted here about how I hadn't lost any weight and was completely regretting the surgery. I didn't lose anything for 3 weeks! But since then I've lost 47 lbs. And the 22 before surgery brings my total to 69 lbs. Things have been going pretty well. It's frustrating at times to find that something that recently agreed with me just won't on a different day! I feel like I'm a slow loser tho, considering my starting weight was 367 I figured a lot would come off quickly. I've just had to adjust my expectations but it bums me out a bit still. It's nice to see that Joanie and Kevin are right around the same amount lost tho. That's reassuring.

    July 2022 peeps!

Hello everyone! I am 3 months and 1 week post-op from my gastric bypass. My scales are reading 198-201 lbs - very exciting!! I have lost 90 lbs from my highest weight (about 50 lbs since surgery). I have a chocolate fairlife protein shake every morning for breakfast; for lunch i eat 2oz of cottage cheese and 2oz of chicken salad; then supper is a little bit of whatever we are having as a family. Occasionally i just have a peanut butter protein shake for supper. I am not hungry much and I get full pretty quickly. I'm off my acid reflux medicine. I'm making many trips to the thrift shops for clothes. I can get down on the floor (and back up) to play with my grandson! I walk my dog and go up/down the stairs at work & at home. My energy level is terrific! I can go out and do errands, then come home and still do other things (no constant napping). Life is good!! I had a stall just a week after my surgery. I followed all the rules exactly, but didn't lose a pound for 3 weeks. Since then i've been losing a pound every couple of days or so. Exercise: I wear a fitbit and have a goal of 6000 steps a day. I am usually meeting that! I've had to work up to it gradually. I may start going to the gym once a week for a little weight training - but nothing strenuous. Also, might do zumba once a week at my church (very low key). I am so thankful for the surgery. Also thankful for this forum where everyone is encouraging and helpful. Hope everyone is doing well!!

    July 2022 peeps!

Hey July peeps. How is everyone doing? I hope all is well. I haven't been on in a while, but I was taking a break from work and decided to check in. I continue to make decent progress. It's been a little more than 3 months since surgery. I think I lost 25 in the first month, 15 in the second month and 10 in the third. That's 50 lbs post op on top of the 28 pre-op. I seem to be losing 2 lbs per week at this point, and I'm real happy with that. I don't remember when I looked at the menu I got from the dietician. But I think I am doing most everything on it, avoiding carbs, doughy bread, sugars, etc. I take my vitamins. I'm tracking my food in the MFP app and trying to get my protein. Some food/drinks I've found working well for me: Old Wisconsin Turkey Sausage sticks (Walmart and Amazon) Low-fat/Light String Cheese Quest Protein chips (Loaded Taco is my fave but others are good) Body Tech Whey Isolate Protein Powder (Rich Chocolate) Fairlife Protein Shakes (Chocolate and Vanilla) - Delicious! Ole Xtreme Spinach and Herbs tortilla/wraps Occasionally, when I'm out of the house, I have no choice but to eat what is available. If I can't get something low calorie/low carb, I try to modify the item, like removing the bun, not eating the pizza crust, etc. I haven't had heartburn in over a month, but I am still on a prescription (Esomeprazole?) for now. Probably my biggest issue is knowing when to stop eating. At times, I just forget how small my stomach is and keep spooning food in until I fill it to the top. Oh, that's so uncomfortable. LOL.

    Hiccups

I'm at the end of my 1st week of pureed food. Every time I eat something like scrambled eggs, tuna, something with a little texture, I get the hiccups. Also, I experienced the foamies with the tuna salad. Is this common?

    Pre Op Urine - HELP

CBD is a cannabinoid - cannabinoid is the name of the group of chemicals/compounds found in pot. THC, the compound that makes you feel "high" is also a cannabinoid. No, the tests cannot tell what the source is. However, if they are CBD only gummies, then you should not have tested positive for THC and therefore it really should not matter. In fact, it probably won't matter regardless of whether of not you had THC, except that they will likely tell you to refrain for at least 2 weeks pre-op as it can interfere with anesthesia.

    Pre op panic!

Yeh I think I’ll be ok. I’ve only had a few stuff ups in 4 weeks. I hear your advice on post op- I’m pretty confident I’ll do this the right way. I just saw a post earlier on a cancelled op and it scared me. I’ve since read a few responses to that post and I can’t believe how some people are not even really doing pre op until a few days before hand.. one person said they just ate what they wanted as their last hurrah! It kinda put it into perspective for me that I’ve actually done okay.. having lost weight does tell me that realistically. Thanks for the advice. I think I just needed to hear some realistic responses to help me get perspective and stop stressing 😊

    Calorie shock

I am hit or miss with frozen and leftovers in general. I will usually freeze a serving of something to test it out so I don't waste too much if it gets weird. I will be fine with it this week, cut a few somewhere else if needed but even if I ended up 40-50 cals over it is not going to hurt me. I might freeze a portion and test it out though, good thinking!
  12. Yea if you saw your surgeon last week and you are still feeling the same way I would think it’s worth another phone call (maybe even another appointment) If you still aren’t eating literally anything at some point you may need supplemental nutrition. I didn’t experience it personally but have seen people on here who have really struggled in the beginning but they DID get through it and you will too with the help of your team. I would definitely stay in contact with your team and when you do talk to them ask them lots of questions such as what to expect. At what point should you call again if you still aren’t eating. Is there anything else to watch for. Are you getting all your fluids at least? There are a few different nausea meds so maybe they can try another one of those.

    Calorie shock

There was a recipe I used to make pre-op that I loved. Homemade beef and broccoli. I have been wanting it, so I made a crock pot of it yesterday to have for lunches this week. Well, this is the first time I entered the ingredients and added up calories and WHOA! I was a bit shocked. There really isn't much to it other than BEEF (top round) and BROCCOLI! I mean, in all actuality the calories aren't bad, just more than I eat now for a meal. The random little things added up quick! 340 calories and 28 g protein per serving. I was just a bit shocked that they added up to that! Next time I will try to tweak the recipe to get it a little lighter and see how it tastes. Sticker shock, if you will! I am eating it anyway because like I said, not horrible but not my typical meal. But I am not just going to waste it all so I will enjoy it this week and go from there!

    Pre op panic!

Thanks for reply.. I have 2 days of pre op to go. I’m doing the next 2 strictly shakes and water. ugh I’m so worried. I think I’ve done pretty well considering. I have had no sugar, bread pasta or rice- a few chips here and there.. majorly reduced my caffeine by 3/4, same with the alcohol and no cigarettes for 11 weeks now. I’m being hard on myself but yeh, I am worried about the possibility of a cancellation cos I have had a few blow outs of 300 cal or so over 1200 limit 😩
  15. Has anyone ever had the op cancelled due to cheating on pre op? I’ve been pretty good staying within the 1200 calories (mostly)- Optifast shakes, veges, 2 litres water a day- and the odd bit of protein -but I have blown out a few times- is this common?? I’ve probably lost about 5-6 kg in 3.5 weeks.. I’m 165cm x 94kg. BMI if 34.5 now I’m starting to worry- I have my op booked for Thursday this week.
  16. My surgery went well too. I was quite surprised at how little pain I had I had. I didn’t have much gas pain at all which I was worried about from others experiences. I had tightness along my chest which I just kept walking which got rid of the discomfort I had. My was mainly sickness feeling super super sick the whole time and heaving with a raw stomach which isn’t pleasant. But for pain not much really, I’m 2 weeks post opp today and I remember feeling like I’d done tones of sit-ups and in my chest had some pain. But I expected something completely different, I’m not sure if it helped in anyway but I done a diet 2 weeks before off my own back to prepare me, so I wasn’t eating fatty foods all the time. I had back pain but mainly from being in bed for so long and body not used to it. I guess we all have different experiences don’t let the scary ones put you off just try and prepare with eating cleaner before and cut out fizzy/caffeine 🙂 hope that helps

    Feeling Defeated

You have done the hardest part, the first week is the worst. Just white knuckle it until you get to your surgery date. Mine was 3 weeks long and if I could, I would have run to the operating theatre. I was so finished with that diet. If you cheat this process, you may risk being opened up and the operation being cancelled due to having a fatty liver. Its a real thing. That thought alone kept me on the straight and narrow. After surgery, the liquid diet is nothing and passes so quickly. This operation is truly worth the effort you are putting in now. I can not explain how wonderful it is to live in this new body. I hope you get there too

    October 2022 surgery support

I had my sleeve on 10/10/22 two weeks ago today. Surgery went well, just struggling to get my full water intake and protein. Not doing very good with it, seems like there isn’t enough time in the day to have it all, and going off shakes 🙈 anyone else having this problem? I’m 5’2, and was 13 stone 8lb before. So far lost 1 stone 4lb. Todays first day of purée just unsure how to fit all of this food in and have enough protein and water 🙈 any suggestions welcome 🙂

    Feeling Defeated

The pre-op diet is the absolute worst. You have the hunger and stomach size of an obese person but none of the solid, filling food to satisfy it. It's really rough. But just keep reminding yourself that it won't be like that after the surgery. Yes, you'll be on the liquid diet after, but only for a short while, and your stomach will be so small and sensitive you won't want, or be able, to eat regular food. It'll definitely get better. And by the time you hit 6 weeks out, you can eat normal (albeit healthier, smaller portions) of food.

    Feeling Defeated

I got gastric bypass on September 19 2022. So it is fresh in my head. I call it my fat brain. My worst of my bad eating habits is eating late at night and lots of it. For me the second week was when I started to really look at other people and how and what they are. I kept thinking about not how I miss the food and snacks but more on the line of the poison people are stuffing into themselves. I started to really hate all the garbage food i see everywhere. Tv ads , social media, the supermarket and shopping of garbage food people buy. I kept seeing overweight and more and more people struggling. There are so many that are in worse shape than myself and most do not see or have given up. I am proud and happy you are making a change for yourself and family. It isn't going to be an easy road and it will be a long journey. I have been fat for 30 years and my health issues started 15 years ago. But I ignored them and kept trying to find an easy fix. Diet this and diet that. These magic pills or drink this magic shake. As I start seeing the real progress I'm making I find it easier to continue. I have to . Not continuing will only lead me to being in pain, being diabetic, struggling to get up out of bed with out feeling like a truck ran me over, sleep apnea, the list never seems to end. This group of people here are real and also struggle with you. But we are here for eachother. Don't give up. You are stronger than you give yourself credit. If you fall off the wagon. Get you fat ass back on! I'm like most on here struggle yet must keep going on. I send you love and positive vibes for you. You will be and see results in time. I started at 265.5 per surgery. Was 250 at surgery. Dropped to 243 and stalled for almost three weeks and today I'm at 236 five week after surgery. Still feel week and get tired quickly but gaining energy and strength a bit more every day. Keep your nutrition up and your proteins up, take Colligen and biotin, and walk as much as you can. It makes a big difference. . Best wishes and good health!!
  21. Hi all! Very new to this site and about to have gastric sleeve surgery on 10/31. I started the process back in July and it’s all felt pretty quick. I knew I wanted to go through with it after talking to the surgeon and team. They have been absolutely wonderful. I’m currently on the two week pre-op liquid diet (only broth/sugar free jello & popsicles/protein shakes/clear liquids). I think I didn’t fully prepare myself for how difficult it would be to go without solid food. I’ve struggled most of my life with being overweight and overeating and I got tired of it. But I think my attachment to food is still extremely strong. I’m working with a therapist to overcome it and change habits. However, the liquid diet is driving me crazy and making me think this wasn’t the right way to go. I’m afraid I don’t have the strength to go through with it and be successful afterwards. I haven’t cheated on the diet over the past 7 days but I constantly think about it. And I thought it would get easier but it hasn’t. Did anyone else experience this pre-op? Did your feelings change after surgery? It’s just tough to not rely on something that made me so happy before (food). Any advice is much appreciated. 🙂

    Lap band questions

Hi guys I couldn't do it anymore. I went back and got an unfil there like are u sure youve already lost 10lbs in a week i said um ya cuz I haven't eaten or drank anything in 2 weeks so they took the whole fill out. So now I'm back to 7cc in a 10cc band. Now I can eat now it's up to me to put the right things in my body to continue to loose weight it felt soooo good to drink water normally before I got it looser it was a sip of water and then it would sit on my chest going down so so so slowly it would take me all day to finish a 20oz water bottle no that's not normal alot is mind over matter few weeks ago I would like binge eat chips at night idk wtf that was about then I had a realization kick in why do that to myself when I went thru agony not being able to keep things down .....suffer lol throwing up. . for what to eat chips and then be stuck at one weight no no no so like movie night last night instead of chips I cut some bell pepper and had 2 with hummus and it was GOOD!
  23. Hi! I’m just wondering if anyone has struggled the way I am. I had surgery October 12. I’ve not been able to stomach anything but water since. I tried choking down protein shakes, tried protein waters, protein shots. I’m now supposed to be eating six small meals per day, which can be yogurt, pudding, blended cottage cheese, or cream soups. I can’t even finish one and I’m sick for the rest of the day. Last week I saw my surgeon and was told I have thrush, post nasal drip, and was dehydrated. Was given mucinex d, diflucan, and sent to the hospital for fluids. I felt better but still unable to eat anything. Phenergan and zofran are not helping me. I’m so frustrated at this point. There have been many tears shed. I’m so sick of feeling sick. I keep telling myself this will pass and the surgery will be worth it, but I feel like I’ve ruined my stomach and will never feel good again.

    Missed period

I was 17 days late in August and when I went to my annual exam, my GYN explained that it's very likely from the weight loss I've had. He did mention to keep tracking them and if anything is continuing to be off, then he'll order testing to check for anything that could be the culprit. My next period was a week early, so I believe it has to do with the weight loss.

    OFFICIALLY LOST 100LB

Congrats! That is wonderful, I don't think I'm going to get to 100 pounds. I'm 9 months out, down 46 pounds and still working on 1-2 pounds at a time. If I could do the protein shakes for 3 weeks I could probably dump a huge amount of weight at one time. But thats keto and hard to stick to! Some people can do it, I get to low energy. I'm trying one day a week do just protein drinks all day! I'm encouraged by all of you!
