    Aetna... I Want To Cry!

I have Aetna. I had the sleep study done in September, 2011 and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I did not have any other co-morbidities so I did not have two years worth of documentation on that. I did have the two years weight history. I completed my three month nutrition program in December. I was approved within two weeks and had surgery on 1/30.
  2. I have BCBS and I did 3 months of weights management. I didn't lose but gained bc of the holidays. Luckily there was no specific weight loss requirement. I guess it just varies.

    Pre-op Basketcase :(

Sounds like you'll do awesome! It's a fun-ride this journey of losing weight and becoming more healthy. I was the same way pre-op, I could not wait to get sleeved. I'm 5 months out and have reached my ultimate goal and am still learning by trial and error what and when I can eat and how much. I've learned so much from VST. Don't know what I would have done without these forums. Keep us posted on how you're doing and learn all you can on here... Good luck and just relax and enjoy the journey!
  4. PHOENIX!!! OMG we are in the same boat here! My BMI and highest weight is 312, now 300. We have tried so many years to have a baby and i decided, even though i am 39, i would rather be a bit older and healthier than risk the complications from having a pregnancy at 300 lbs. Not to mention that most fertility specialist won't do IVF or at least you are limited as to what can be done if BMI is over 40. My husband and i are going through this process together as well. The plan is to do all the nutrition, PT and group sessions together and i will be first for surgery and once i heal, he will go as well. Its so nice to see that other couples are going through this together, it really works to be on the same page with everything. Good luck to you... and heres to our future baby bumps, and looking cute in maternity clothes!
  5. My surgery weight was 186 and I"m 5 months out, lost 61lbs. to reach goal of 125lbs. The doc said I should meet goal in approximately 6 months, so he was pretty close... It seems that those with higher bmi's lose faster than I did, so keep that into consideration. That doesn't really answer your question, hopefully helpful...

  8. My last doctor visit is on 1 Nov. On that day, reflecting six months of doctor visits and a 15 pound weight loss, my package will be forwarded to insurance for approval. Now that the reality is sinking in, I'm scared. After struggling my whole life, fighting, losing 50 pounds, gaining it back, losing 100 pounds, gaining 50 back, I realize that this is the final end to a lifetime of low self esteem, finding clothes that fit, being belittled and put down for my looks. Is it really happening and can I really do it? Will I really see the person on the outside that has been fighting to get out for 46 years? Shopping at Victoria Secret? No more plus sized clothing? Is it real? Can it be a reality for me? I would appreciate any words of encouragement from those in the same situation. Thanks! Christi
  9. Right now you Need to worry about healing properly. Your Body is going to take a few weeks to adjust to these changes and you may even gain a few pounds. It's totally okay your body needs to flush out all the junk from surgery and get used to the new you. Just stay on the diet plan advised by your doc and it will all start to fall into place. Best of luck to you and congrats
  10. I worry with you off the birth control one they are hormones and you have just stopped these hormones and it will play with your mind. Next getting pregnant now will stop your weight loss and add to what you are now....keep thst in mind. Also get your doctor to get you on anti-depressants and maybe anxity meds also this will help tons..set your elf up for success and you will do it you have a long road before you are on a paved road but hand in there this works and you will grow as a person as you body gets smaller...we are here for you

    Social Events

I think Jacqui pretty much much nailed it on the head. I have not and will not stop attending social functions (and trust me, I go to plenty). I find it easier than I thought it would be to keep everything in moderation and have a great time. I do understand where you may be coming from when you say you are concerned about what people would say (as I was), but as Jacqui said, they really do not care for the most part. In fact, when people ask how I lost the weight so far, I enjoy telling them about the band and I have not received anything but 100% encouragement and kudos. Obviously I am hanging around a pretty good crowd in that they are more interested in my well being rather than why I am not having too many beers...
  12. I was reading Oregon Daisy's post about being in maintenance and it got me thinking. I have read here so many times that when you get 12 + months out you can eat a lot more than immediately post-op, but it's still WAYYYYY less than pre-op. If that is the case, then why is there such a struggle with maintenance? Seems like more than one person has said just overeating for a special occasion/holiday will put on a few pounds and then it is harder and harder to lose them. It just seems like with the reduced amount we will be able to eat, even a year out, and even if its something on the No-No list, it shouldn't be so hard to maintain. Is it that this drastic reduction in calories/fast weight loss has destroyed our metabolism? Or messed with our original "set point" for our weight? Just curious because you can't help but think that compared to what we used to eat, what we eat now and in maintenance is a fraction of that. Thanks for any insight on this
  13. I didn't tell mine until I got back. We are actually good friends, and he was a little upset that I didn't tell him ahead of time. But he's should be used to it. I also found my own neurosurgeon and scheduled my own neck fusion surgery after he diagnosed me with bone spurs and stenosis in my neck. He admitted he would have disapproved (that's why I didn't tell him). But my successful weight loss and outstanding 6 month bloodwork has convinced him that my crazy Mexico surgery adventure wasn't such a bad idea. And I know he would have done whatever it took to make sure I was taken care of if I had had any surgical complications.

    Insurace sucks!

I am with you... I have been paying insurance through my employer for 30 years... They would cover high blood pressure meds, diabetes if I had it and shoot even a heart attack but they wouldn't pay for me to get help losing weight. It's just a fact of life and i agree it stinks.
  15. I didn't know what forum to post this in, so I decided to post it here. As a pre-bandster, I am anxiously looking forward to starting my new life! I can NOT wait!! For years I've been up and down in weight, bought "skinny" clothes that some years I fit in to and others I did. I always kept them so when I did fit into them. Well, after years of hoarding these "skinny" wordrobes, today I decided to take the bull by horn. I decided that it was time to throw out the OLD "skinny" wordrobe- not because I am not going to fit into them, because I know I will, but because I don't want the go back to that kind of skinny... the skinny that stayed off only for a few weeks and then I went back up. I want to buy a brand new "skinny" wordrobe after I am banded... the lasting "skinny" wordrobe that will last me forever! I don't want to fit into my old "skinny" jeans.. I want my new skinny jeans... ya know the ones that I will always fit into! It felt so liberating to say "good bye" to my old wordrobe... 6 large garbage bags of clothes are now out of my closet. I have hangers galore that are anxiously waiting for my new wordrobe to arrive!! I had to share what a magical moment this was for me today!
  16. I would think you are probably fine, but get it checked for peace of mind. And perhaps you should up your calories to more than 800 a day. Not more than 4-6 oz in a sitting, but more calories a day could be why you are hungry. I have to eat between 1400-2000 calories a day. Yeah I'm eating all day long.... but I worked my butt off to lose the weight, now I gotta work on keeping it up a bit (due to complications as my signature shows, I've not be a "normal" sleever and lost too much this last go around due to complications, so now I'm working at keeping my weight at 135, which I am below this week). I know at one point in my journey, 800 calories wasn't doing it for me. Perhaps you are just at that stage, but I hope to read you are fine and all is good after getting it checked. Best of luck, always.

    Post op with kids

I had my surgery on 8/7. My surgeon said to be on weight restriction of no more than 20lbs for 10 days. I have a 2 year old & it went smoothly. You should be fine by the time your mom leaves.

    How soon and lower tummy

Most people lose weight everywhere, though sometimes fat sticks stubbornly to small areas, usually with loose skin. When I had my gastric bypass, after I lost 160 lb. I ended up with loose skin and some fat left on my lower belly. I had a full tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), which is fat and loose skin removal from the ribs down to the pelvic area. It is also possible to have just the skin and fat from the lower belly removed (panniculectomy). Everyone is different, some find their skin tightens up nicely after weight loss, especially if they are young. I was in my 40's, had been obese for nearly 20 years, and had had a child, so my abdominal skin was looser to begin with.
  19. Haven't been on here too much! Using my tumblr blog and my fitness pal! Just wanted to update anyone that cares to listen Today I had my first fill. My surgeon said that based on my weight loss of 42lbs in 3 months (she called me a show off and an over achiever…haha) she would feel confident sending me on my way without one, but it was up to me. I told her that some days I’d been getting hungry between meals and kind of snacking so a small one may help me. She agreed. So I got my fill(painless and easy as hell), sat there for a minute and drank some water to make sure I could get it down, and got a B12 shot! I love how they make me feel! She said that I wasn’t on any dietary restrictions which kind of shocked me cuz everywhere I’ve read it’s always like 2-3 days of liquids or mushies after a fill. The only thing she said was to chew more than I normally do and take smaller bites just in case I’m swollen or irritated because everyone reacts to fills differently. I feel a little tight and a small amount of shoulder pain (kinda like what I get when I eat too fast) but other than that I’m doing great! I had brocolli cheddar soup for dinner just to be safe
  20. I eat salads, fresh fruits and veggies EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! I know that fruits are high sugar, but I love them so I eat them anyway. Alot has happened in the last decade regarding post surgery eating. I have had very detailed follow up, but I picked a practice that does that since I think that is one reason I didn't do super well with the band (among other causes!) I think you should ask the surgeon, but I had a very conservative "refeeding" program. I was on liquids and mushies longer then most becasue i was a revision and with that scar tissue, there is a higher risk of leaks - so they have you be extra careful. Here was my timeline - every surgeon is different, but I wold be suspicious if you don't have something similiar. Surgery day was 12/12/12 12/12-12/13 - Clear Liquids only 12/14-12/27 Protein liquids added (Protein drinks, strained Soup - no particles at all allowed) 12/28-1/3 Add pureed food (small curd cottage cheese, applesauce, refried Beans thinned with broth etc etc) 1/4-1/17 Mecanical soft, mushy food (must be soft enough you can smash with your tongue - add more Soups, well cooked veggies, groupd meants, flaked white fish, soft cheeses, etc) 1/18 restrictions lifted, but proceeded slowly on adding foods, as tolerated I had a very low appetite for several more months, so ate pretty limited but of course I had alot of weight to lose so it worked out great! I detest protein drinks - but honestly, for that first 6-8 weeks post op, I think you will really need them. Protein helps you heal and you will NOT be able to eat much those early times post op. I was quite restricted in food quantity for the first 2-3 months post op and you will likely lose too much weight if you don't find something liquid (and later soft foods) to supplement you.
  21. Did your doctor tell you that you had to loose a certain amount of weight before surgery? I am having surgery tommorow too and my doctor told me I didn't need to do the pre-op diet... I have been kind of panicing these past few days, but I guess I just figure my Dr knows best... I haven't gone crazy with my eatting but I am afraid to weigh myself bc I don't want to have gained weight!
  22. Was like a yo-yo. Finally the last month the doctor said if I did not lose 4 lbs in the next month he would not operate. Well, then I lost 6. Now I am post-op 2 weeks and enjoying a 27 lbs weight loss so far. I had food funeral after food funeral. Everything that I saw that I liked I ate. I don't regret it now. I will be able to eat my favorite things again 1 day in moderation. Everyone does the nutritional part in their own way. Whatever is comfortable for you. Best of luck.
  23. I lost 10 lbs first week of Pre op now have been gaining .2-.4 lbs everyday for four days. Not cheating at all. Sometimes our bodies just don't do what we want them to do. Those little gains remind me of years and years of struggles dieting and makes me want my surgery Friday even more.
  24. Well i got approved with some extra documentation. i ducked out of here because i had gone on the 2 shake diet, lost 14 lbs and then they told me I was going to have to do weight watchers for 6 months. So I compleatly wigged out because the surgery planner told me to just maintain that weight for six months. They said if; lost too much more, i wouldn't be covered. I have to be over 40 Bmi even with all my medical problems. I have never been a weight I needed to maintain...so no surprise, I now have 10 lbs to Lose again. Once my doc faxed over the proof of weigh once a month at his office, they approved it. Sooooo my pre-op class is Friday at 8 am. They are calling me back to schedule a surgery date. It could be this month, I will have to waiting and see....but I am approved. I am mad at myself for the weight gain...now I am back to shakes starting tonight since I already ate lunch. I am feeling very nervous now. I am worried I won't lose it in time...I am going to have to be close by Friday.....how am I going to lose 10 lbs by Friday? Any suggestions? I know it is my fault for reacting in this way and I know it is my responsibility to lose this weightl but I am seriouse about this...please help it you can.
