  1. Below is an email from my Dr's office... Do you think Allergan will cover this type o complication? basically my band has a bubble, aneurysm, blister (whatever you want to call it) in it and when they fill it the Fluid is all going in to this bubble. Below you can see what Allergan wants to see from my Dr as he is appraoaching them to replace it... just want to know what you all think??? Ok, I finally have some information for you. Dr B let me know that we need to do a fill under fluoroscopy to show Allergan where the dye is going. So we will adjust your band while we are shooting an xray which will show Allergan the fluid is not leaking out of the band. I am having Becky work on dates for next week to get you in to do that. I will let you know once we have a better idea. We are getting closer. No, it is all accumulating in a bubble. Think of your band as having a blister except the fluid goes in but can't come out. Lose Weight before surgery

I suppose it is unique based on your insurance. My CoE said that I could not lose because I was already borderline BMI. They do have everyone do a 2 week, low carb, pre op diet. During the seminar a lady with UHC asked if she lost weight would she be denied and they told her that it was possible. At this point, I think the insurance companies are looking for any reason not to cover the surgery, so I am not going to give them one. Good Luck
  3. I had that same experience around 6-7 weeks. My doctor put me back on soft foods and I gradually added more things. I even hated drink water. Hope you'll get this resolved soon. I know it's not fun.
  4. If it feels like a rolling knot that starts out you feel it coming and then it gets very strong and fades away. I had that, I took that as my stomachs way of telling me hey you put something in here. So I would drink a little protein drink and that feeling would go away lasted for about a week or two.

    Surgery Day [emoji4]

Welcome to the other side!! The first weeks are challenging, but it seems to get easier once you are eating real food again. :-)

    Surgery Day [emoji4]

All checked in and waiting to go back for my surgery! I have been extremely anxious and nervous this week! Can’t wait to start this journey!
  7. My surgery is on November 13, and I am going a little stir crazy these last few weeks. I feel like time is slowing down and I'm just ready for it to get here already and it's making me agitated. Has anyone else experienced that? It's probably partially because I'm miserable at my job five days a week and I'm looking forward to the time off, too.
  8. So I went today to see the surgeon n got a surgery date for April 8..I'm nervous and excited. I just hope my insurance approves the procedure. Starting my 2 week preop diet tomorrow.

    My First Fill

The expected is 1-2 # per week you've lost 26# in 5weeks- get ready for it to slow down. It will at some point. The first fill is exciting!! MIne was last week. The foods you can and cant eat will vary, you have thus far experienced the "normal". Good Luck!!

    Eating/drinking makes me sick UPDATE!

Thanks everyone. I will call today. I called my doc 2 weeks ago and the nurse acted like it wasn't a big deal. She said it sounded like reflux, and that i should take Prilosec twice a day, and Hyoscyamine every 4 hours.

    Got my surgery date today!

I was told a week but two weeks is what I ended up taking after my surgery. Good luck to you.

    Newly Banded - hungry already

Just follow your doc's directions post op. I too was hungry from the start; in fact I came to in recovery ready (I thought! LOL) to eat a steak. I didn't though; it was 6 LONG weeks before I had my steak dinner. Hang in there; it is important now that you heal.

    Maintenance calories/ounces/x daily/ Food

You’re asking about maintenance, right? Confused bc everyone is answering about while they are losing. I am four and a half years post op. Been at goal since a year out. I have to eat about 5 smaller meals a day to get all my food in because my capacity is limited. Like a meal might be half a sirloin patty and a cup of salad. Anyhow I eat anywhere from 1800-2800 calories a day as a 5’6” 140-ish pound woman. I run about 20 miles a week and do 4-5 hours of heavy yoga.

    BANDSTER HELL!!!

Well I haven't really lost any weight in the past couple weeks. Still 27lbs down and stuck at 252lbs! :bored I had my first fill 2 weeks ago and I do feel some restriction, but I am still able to eat quite a bit. I started counting calories last week to try to get this scale to move. I've been staying under 1000cal/day so I'm hoping that helps. I haven't weighed myself since Tuesday, but I will when I go to the hospital tomorrow for my 2nd fill. I absolutely hate counting calories so I'm hoping with proper restriction I won't have to. We'll see if the second fill will get me there! I have less than 2 weeks left for Las Vegas and was hoping to lose 13lbs by then. Doesn't look like that's gonna happen so I'll take ANY loss at this point. On a positive note, I've been working out everyday and my body is definitely changing so I feel good about that!!!
  15. I start my 8 day pre op diet today. I have to go to Old Chicago tonite with my mom since she can't drive in the dark, and she is meeting friends there, and asked me to drive her. I will be bringing my shake with me. Even though this is tough, I can't believe my time is finally here. I've been working hard (just like everyone else) jumping through insurance hoops, countless doctor appointments, and medical tests and it's finally here. My heart is so full of happiness and peace right now knowing that I will be sleeved one week from tomorrow. Hopefully I will still be this happy in a couple of days...LOL
  16. Hey, Yes, I will contact my surgeon on Monday, but until then ... Starting yesterday, after I eat anything (cottage cheese, fat free Soup, etc) I have mild to moderate heart burn. I have never had heartburn before (well, maybe a few times in my life, but nothing consistent like this). A few days ago I was eating pureed refried Beans and I ate 1/2 cup and I was very very full after (this was the first time where I have been "over full" since getting the band). Has anyone had anything like this before? Do you think I have an early slip? I am freaking out completely. I was banded 2 weeks ago, and my band is empty. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!
  17. I started an early pre-op diet one week ahead, just to get used to the idea. Drank Atkins Protein Meal Replacements shakes for breakfast and lunch, then a light dinner. This was a big help. When you get hungry--drink more Water. You won't have time to eat, you will be busy running to the bathroom. Seriously, as the fat starts to break down, it is disposed of through the organs and then into the bladder and the water helps flush it out. My surgeon then put me on their recommended Protein drinks for the last 2 weeks(2 more days of pre-op for me). Good luck to you.
  18. I saw my surgeon about a week and a half ago and he said I was a great candidate for the surgery. My initial weigh in was 227lbs and within four days of diet I was down to 223lbs. My surgeon has my goal of losing 3lbs for the surgery to be at 220 lbs but even though I've been watching what I eat I'm not losing anything! I am ovulating so would that be the hold up?

    Pre-op diet & ovulating

4 pounds in a week and a half is great. The other 3 pounds will come. Try to increase your Water, Protein, and exercise. You will get there.
  20. Be very careful about eating solid foods this soon unless your surgeon says it's okay. Part of the first six weeks or so after surgery is to allow your body time to heal up. Your band was stitched in place on your stomach wall. Those stitches need time to heal up. If you eat solids before you should, you run the risk of affecting the healing of those stitches. Just because you didn't feel anything doesn't mean it's okay to eat improperly. As to your two pounds loss, that's good to have (as is any weight loss), but it's normal to lose a fair amount in the few weeks right after surgery. Your body is getting rid of fluids taken in during the surgery, and your system is adjusting to how you're eating now. So a certain amount is weight lost is normal, and you should see even more weight coming off over the next few weeks. But again, the focus should be on healing up. Take things slow and take it easy on yourself. The weight WILL come off, but you need to adapt to the stages of recovery. Developing patience is the hardest part of this. Good luck with things. Dave

    Wth?

I know, I know...dont get hung up on the scale....BUT I'm about 6 weeks out & last Saturday I weighed 283 & today I weigh 285. I am averaging 5-600 cals a day. And I don't have a TOM. What the.... Maybe it's what I'm eating? Here's an average day. I'm not big on variety yet cuz my sleeve is picky....realllly picky! Also not a big eater...just can't do 6 meals a day. Am. SF vanilla latte w/ 2% milk. Takes all morning to drink lunch. 1/6 of a flat out whole wheat wrap w/ 2 tblspn of cram cheese & 2 oz of smoked salmon Snack. Protein shake w/ 30 g protein...can only stomach a little over 2/3 of it dinner is the same as lunch. Well, thoughts??

    Wth?

Are you keeping an actual food journal to log the breakdown of your calories/fats/carbs/protein? Sounds like you are getting in an OK amount of Protein, but might need more. At 6 weeks you should be aiming to get 80-90g at a minimum. And it's good if you can get half of that in before mid-day, rather than lumping it all in the afternoon. If you can, mix up what you're eating rather than eating the same thing more than twice a day. Are you logging your fluids as well, 64oz or more per day? How much are you exercising? It might be time to bump it up a little, like 10% more. More than likely it's just a stall. The human body is not a perfectly tuned machine and can have it's quirks. Be patient, I'm sure it will break soon!!

  25. I try to prepare things that are easily deconstructed for myself. I have two young kids, so everything is pretty kid friendly as well. This week's menu (I'm almost 8 weeks out): Mon: French dip sandwiches, cut up veggies and new potatoes. I had two slices of deli roast beef rolled up with two thin slices of provolone and dipped them in a little of the au jus Tue: Pasta with marinara and meatballs. I'll have a few of the meatballs in the sauce Wed: Shoyu (basically a sweet soy marinade) chicken with stir fry veggies and rice. I'll have a couple ounces of chicken and a few bites of the veggies Last week I made an enchilada bake with no tortillas (chicken, Beans, sauce, green onions, spinach, cheese). The kids had blue corn chips and ate their like nachos, where I just topped mine with a little greek yogurt. I hope that is helpful!
