    Two days out

My surgeon gave me sooo many vitamins that it is almost impossible to take them during the day. My stomach basically isn't just that big. So instead I'm using what my nutritionist recommended and taking one pill (especially made for bariatric needs) four times a day instead. At least that one can be dissolved in water. The rest are horse pills.

I was advised by my Bariatric team to take 2 Flintstone's Complete everyday along with my b12, Vitamin D3 and Tums. Sent from my PH-1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Bariatric surgery was a big mistake

If monitoring my diet for life means a healthy lifestyle and extra time spent with my family then so be it. I made myself unhealthy with the food that I chose to over indulge in. I am currently 12 days post op from my bypass and I do not regret it. I spent my mother's day on a liquid diet (Optifast) and Memorial Day, I spent recovering from my bypass and on a pureed diet. I've studied this surgery for the past 10 years, contemplating until I was at my highest weight, miserable and unable to play with my kids. 18 months ago I began my journey to get healthy. I lost 85 pounds on my own but with a high BMI and still morbidly obese, I joined a Bariatric management program and worked through it and got my bypass. I'm clinging to every extra moment that I'll have with my family. I've enjoyed all the unhealthy crap, so on to find healthy stuff that still tastes good and share these new eating habits with my kids. To each there own, but I'm embracing it! Why not? Why not now, this is a Beautiful Day, might be a lovely time also at Bariatric Pal Mexico. Being thinner is a real winner; and you will find out, as I did, a former Foodaholic, nothing tastes as good as Thin feels. And as my own Fat Shell continues to crack, people are starting to see the Beautiful ME that was there always. But when you're obese you are beneath their notice, I guess you are an non-person. Hey world🌏 I'm Here, I've always been here but you had blinders on, you JUST couldn't see me, for my surroundings or something. So your Ex-cuses have expired, if you still can't see ME please Ex-it from my presence, you s just became Ex-tranious or something similar!

    Diabetes

Only a hug, a pat on the back, a reminder that Bariatric surgery can stop or at least slow down the Diabetes Monster. Every blood lab I have drawn I worry mine will come back like yours. My PCP shakes his head " By all that is holy, you should be diabetic by now!" darn dude sounds disappointed, does he really want all the extra work it would ensue? Peeved him my BP is better, cholesterol lower, pulse Ox higher and better than his, I have COPD, don't smoke and I'm maybe 35 years older, and then I have the audacity to not turn diabetic, I'm losing weight like a house afire. All his Doom and Gloom was for naught, and looks like I might even outlive him! He is starting to develop a mid-age paunch, should I get in his face and read him the Riot Act.? if he doesn't know,it by now, KARMA IS A FEMALE DOG! (snicker-snicker!)
  6. I just wanted to post this, because I see a lot of people posting about how much its changed their life for the better or worse. My entire life I was bullied mercilessly. My brothers, my sisters, adults, and even still today. And it never mattered how hard I tried to lose weight, it never seemed to end. People seem to think ANY version of being pudgy, fat, obese, whatever they want to call you, is unacceptable. They think because they are thin, they are above you. But they don't know the emotional struggles we face every single day! Finding something to wear that doesn't make me look bigger than I already am, but also will be comfortable. Getting our of breath just to tie my shoes, etc. My best friend used to call me 'Fat F***' on a daily basis because he thought he was motivating me. But little did he know ever time he did that to me, I would eat my emotions away. Then I met my wife, now the mother of my child (Due in October 2019) who also had the VSG done and lost over 130lbs. She encouraged me to diet and lose a little weight before meeting the surgeon. I did that, and I had every single appointment needed for the surgery in 1 month and had the surgery two weeks later! Now when I see my bullies, their comments are 'You weigh less than me, i need to work out more!' or 'Great job! you're doing awesome!' but then I get the occasional 'You did the easy thing' but they're morons and do not understand how much work goes into it. Bariatric surgery not only saved my life, but took away my depression, my emptiness, my lack of friends, my heartache for companionship, and everything in between. The road over the last year has been incredibly hard with some bumps along the way but i've made it! If you are thinking about having this done and are reluctant to do it because 'you don't think you can' - thats a crock of s*** because I did it. I am a person with little to no will power and I give into everything. Bariatric surgery is a MIND game, you have to force yourself to do it and turn it into a habit. the doctors and nutritionists WILL help you, you cannot be afraid to ask questions. Anyway, sorry for the long story, I just want people to understand that every story is different but we can all triumph if we put our minds to it! I hope this is some encouragement needed for someone out there. Share your story! what was hardest for you? What kind of things did you take for granted now or before your surgery?

    Approval

Maybe your weight is making your seizures worse, I know it is a stretch, but seeing diabetics can go off their meds, hypertension people can cut back on BP meds, who is to say the weight loss would not help. Maybe your neurologist can somehow work in tandem with your bariatric surgeon to ensure you the BEST OUTCOME! I am the mama to an epileptic, currently under control, but it's like sitting on the edge of a sharp knife, if you slip, you could get cut. And like every Mama, I wish it was me instead of him that had them. There have been times when in the midst, tears ran down his face, yeah probably reflexive but it tears my 💔to see it. Yes I had my surgery for ME but also so I could still be here for him. My PCP was making noises that my weight could KILL me, now I have a new lease on life, 111 pounds lost since surgery 9 months ago, a little more to Goal but I believe in me and that I can do it! You're 46, I was twice that when I had my surgery, I came through and I believe you can too, there has just got to be a way for it to happen! Your kids, your grandson , they want and need you here, but wouldn't it be nice to have a more streamlined model, one who can survive daily stress and still be the best. And Amelia, I want it for YOU!

    ❤ MAY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

I still think my goal weight is realistic as well, especially as I draw closer to Onderland, my BMI is now 31.1, that's on the cusp between Obese and Overweight, and I NEVER REALLY THOUGHT I could get that low, know I wouldn't without my Bariatric tool, I tried all kinds of diets, some I am ashamed to say I fell for, Cabbage juice, grapefruit, a caramel and hot water before eating? Oh they were legion, and every time some new medical person made one up, Frustr8 was there with her lower lip quivering and years in her eyes. My goal remains 175 and a size 15 junior. Now my Nurse Practioner Valerie, and by extension Dr Needleman , would be satisfied with anything sub-199 for ME, maybe they don't have the confidence in ME that I do. I am less than 8 pounds from Onderland, I SHALL BREAK THAT BARRIER! and then, and then, who knows where my,body and. I,shall land! Put padding out so I don't break a bone jumping of the cliff into thin air but I'm going to do it! I still think I look like a tired Basset Hound in the face, but my Son assures me I am" Pretty" to Him still. So I have lived through this May Challenge, a few scars and dents, sorry my arms wouldn't have enough strength or my legs strong enough to raise,me up from squats, but you know I was pretty intent on the Exercises I could do, so I deserve a participation plaque at least. And I did get to know and accept ME better, to realize I am still a Winner even if no one else sees or notices. After all this journey is Mine not to necessarily entertain them all. So I am looking forward to June, another Endoscopy on 12th June, same day as Tomkittens Birthday & I,promised him I will take him to China Buffet, even if I ingest Egg Drop,or Hot and Sour soup only, I will still be wishing him Health and Good Fortune in the Coming Year!!👸& 👨

    Right Lower Back pain

Center of balance has changed, you laid too long on a hard operating table, nerves pinched and/or frayed, arthritis, rheumatism, or nothing else hurts so you could center on this more. The guessing could go on and on. If he does say " Well you WANTED this surgery! "you have my permission to smite HIM. I know if mine said it I would zap right back with "And you had no reservations about doing it, did you?" really my Doctor Needleman is a very nice guy, I woke up in a semi-foul mood this AM. One of those days, you wake up in pain and say "What Next?" In the old days a cup of coffee would settle me right down, now I have gastritis, intestinal ulcerations and a bariatric pouch that only functions in Months with an "R", guess what? No R in May, June, July, August, going to be a Long Summer for lil' Frustr8 !

    Eating Salad

My Bariatric Surgery Book (written/given to me by my surgeon and nutritionist) says that I can eat that one week after my surgery. I had my VSG Surgery on 5/13/19 and have been been eating all of those veggies and fruits since 5/20/19. Everything has gone smoothly for me so far. 👍🏻 Omg really?!?!? 1 week?!?! I'm still on liquids &3 weeks later pureed foods so still not solids. I thought it was cause your stomach couldn't handle it??? How did your pouch respond?

  13. Hello! I am 6 months out from GS surgery. I struggling as my compulsive eating behaviours have returned. My problem now is grazing and food selection. I seem to have more discomfort when eating healthy meals. Fortunately, (or perhaps not), I do not vomit. I am, however, in much discomfort. I've gotten lazy and have fallen back on 'slider' foods, protein drinks, protein bars, ice cream (I'm sorry to say) and other types of foods that go down easy, no discomfort. I've had much success with 12-Step programs in the past and am looking for an OA meeting with a Bariatric focus. I lost 100 lbs while attending compulsive eating meetings and working the program. When I stopped attending the behaviours came roaring back. When I hit the highest weight of my life (354 lbs) and was officially put on Metformin for diabetes (A1C 7.2) that's when I turned to WLS. I absolutely knew the Metformin was going to have an impact on my kidneys. I was off all medications (diabetes, HBP) the day after surgery. (A1C 5.4). Is there anyone out there who might be interested in starting a 12-Step program for post-op WLS? I've scoured the internet but have been unable to find anything. I did read that OA has amended their policy accepting WLS members. I do plan to start attending. However, what I'd really like is to attend something specifically focused on WLS.

    Stopping estrogen before surgery?

Not That Bad a post, you're speaking from the 💘And no one should fault you for that! I am on the other side of the coin in one respect, Doctor just recently asked me Are You sure You Haven't had a Hysterectomy? like I haven't paid my dues. I'm pretty sure I would know and nobody ever told me it was a prerequisite to Bariatric Surgery any way. Makes me feel like a slacker, after all! Told my inquisit or You WAnt it, you can have IT, at 73 no great loss anyway! And then at least One Of Us will be Happy, Doctor Dear!

Bariatric surgery was a big mistake

If you were trying to warn people off bariatric surgery with this post I think you've done the opposite. For starters, I'm not even sure you're real. Second, if you got a major surgery such as this without doing any research... that's on you. Six food trucks and there was NOTHING you could eat? You sound like you're purposely being difficult because you're so angry. There were no hot dogs? Pull it off the bun and eat half. No big deal. A taco truck? Eat the meat & cheese, skip the shell. You are being purposely difficult in some attempt to punish everyone for your anger. Mother's Day - you couldn't go out for breakfast? Why on earth not? Assuming you were 4 weeks post op by then you could have ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and a side of cottage cheese instead of hash browns. IF the point of the holiday was to spend it with loved ones, that's what you do. If you're so mortified by the waitress asking if you enjoyed your meal ask for a to-go box the moment they set it down and pack up what you won't eat. You look like a fool carrying a water bottle - are you serious with this? American's have a drink in hand ALL THE TIME. Soda, coffee cups, frap cups. People are constantly walking around with drinks. Im not sure if I hope you're real or not. If you're not real, you are a real sad individual to come on here and troll people trying to improve their lives. Get a new hobby. If you are real... please get help. For the sake of your family, please.

    Roux-en-y

I figure you meant, you started this fateful journey in October 2018 and in less than a week your Day of Days will occur, right? First, Relax a little, many, have had this surgery, myself and Briswife included. You have come a long way in 8 months, now your preparations are going to pay off. Approach this with a smile on your face, peace in your ❤ heart and a firm belief in what will occur. You will be in the right place, at the right time, having the right surgery, the chosen one, you have selected the right surgeon to perform it, he or she has to be the best or you would not have chosen them. First of all, I found, it is not as painful as I was led to believe. Tooth extractions and root canals are much worse. Instead of true abdominal pain my sensations were that my muscles felt very tired like someone had forced me to do repeatedly sit-ups at gunpoint. And I am old, tend to be crabby, if it was terrible I would be only too eager to tell you so! Like many 70+ year olds, I am only too happy to share my wisdom with anyone within earshot, whether they asked for it or not! When you leave that operating room, you will never be the same, but that's not a BAD thing, you will have been remodeled , renovated and realigned internally. Now your G.I. system will work for you instead of the treacherous way it allowed you to gain weight before. And it may take a while for you to learn the new mechanism involved. Briswife and I had some rarities happen in our recovery, but as for ME and I am much farther from surgery than she, I would never go back to where I was before last September. I am now smaller by over 100 pounds, maybe about the size I was when my later hubby and I were married , in December 1967, a good difference , now I appreciate it for I truly know what I went through to get back down here. I started at a 28-30W, just ready to topple from a 20 into an 18, yeah I know many ladies start at the size I am now, well Baby I Ain't Done Yet! Ready to enter Onederland after starting in the mid-to'upper 300s, I NEVER thought I would have a chance to write "1" in front of my weight. 1/4 Surgical skill, I had the chief of Bariatric Surgery and Metabolic Weight Loss at the Ohio State University, super skilled-super nice guy, at least 1/2 the Grace of God, I will always give Him credit where credit is due, and the remaining 1/4? Red-headed stubborness, a commited personality, I knew this was my One and Best chance to live instead of dying, and at 72, now 73 ,your Primary Care Physician does make such noises. Everything down to an infected hangnail, " THIS could KILL you!" And I was and am commited to see this through to the end. I've survived a lot but I'll keep coming back for more, my scars are battle ribbons in the War of Life, they say"I took what YOU threw at me- and I AM STILL HERE!" Well I am sorry to have kept going on and on, but I am a Grandmother, should be a Grwzt-grannie but my 2 Grandville haven't Got their acts together, older one is divorced, younger one a Senior at OSU, double major- Forensics and Psychology- Meemaw is a TAD proud of Amy! Remember you can and will be a success at this, hardest yet most satisfying job you may HAVE. And the benefits will be ALL for YOU!❤ Love from me, Frustr8, your friend in Central Ohio!👈😝👉

    Vitamins

I just switched from Celebrate chewables to the BariatricPal Multivitamin One. The Celebrate used to make me super nauseous, and you had to take two of them. The Bariatric Pal version is only one tablet and the taste is much better. The Celebrates were so bad that I had to extend my Rx for Zofran just to keep them down. Do yourself a favor and get a 30 day supply and try them out. This is not an endorsement for any kind of kickback, I truly have found them to be superior and I'm happy to support this product going forward, it's a game changer.

Kidney Stone 1 month Post Op

According to the Internet, bariatric surgery produces an increased incidence of kidney stones. Calcium and oxalate are naturally absorbed by the gastrointestinal or GI tract. Following weight loss surgery, patients tend to absorb less calcium from their GI tract. The end result is that higher levels of oxalate tend to occur in the urinary tract. Under the right circumstances, the oxalate will form crystals, which in turn can aggregate to form kidney stones. So you are right to make sure that you stay hydrated and meet your daily fluid requirements. Over the years there have been several individuals on this site that have reported getting kidney stones after bariatric surgery. Oxalate stones are a potential side effect of gastric bypass surgery. Consuming water throughout the day, limiting your sodium intake, and eating a diet rich in plant-based protein are all healthy strategies that can help you manage your weight, and prevent kidney stones. 22. Hello All, I am 1 year VSG Post-Op and I am starting to gain weight out of no where. I have officially lost 100lbs, but ive gained 10lbs in the last few weeks. I do not eat terrible,i stick to my diet mostly while indulging every once in a while on a handfull of chips or a few bites of ice cream. What bothers me is i have noticed my stomach stretching and im less satisfied like i once was. I exercise regularly, eat a lot of very clean and lean meats (mostly venison, chicken, turkey, etc) and lots of greens and veggies. I do drink while i eat now - i know, terrible habit - but i wont make any excuses for it. however, its sipping rather than 'drinking' Im stumped. ive worked so hard to lose the weight and this is crushing my enthusiasm about being healthy and more fit than i was. anyone have any tricks or anything you can help me out with? My average Caloric intake as of right now is between 1200-1500ca. 65 carb, 0 fat, 65+ protein, 0 sugar. to hopefully reverse this, i have started on my bariatric diet consisting of around 800-900 calories of clean clean clean eating. But i started this yesterday so i wont see any results. sorry for the ramble, im just panicking and need to talk to someone lol

And if they work for you, I see nothing wrong with patches. Your future blood labs will show if you're able to take your vitamins and minerals in that manner. Many, people on here have had great success with them.Remember to get a good strong variety, the ones Bariatric Pal Store sells are among the BEST!
  25. You have our support here, How do I deal with unsupportive people? I keep the supportive people around me and I don’t waste my time on negative people. Life is far too short. Choose wisely on who you disclose your surgery to. Some will be supportive and respectful of your decisions and others won’t. There is no point in educating people that already are against bariatrics and think it’s the easy way out. Some may change and be supportive when they watch you lose weight and get your health back. Some relationships may change with weight loss. Be prepared.
