    Is it worth it?

The mere fact that my band is ajustable is worth every fill i get. I am 6 months out and down 50 lbs. I have had a slow loss since November, so I knew it was time to be ajusted (3rd fill). SO WORTH IT!!!!!

    When to start exercising?

I'm also 3 weeks post-op (5/16). While I'm not cleared for lifting, I know that walking is just fine. That's probably a great type of exercise to start with. Don't dwell over that 3lb weight gain just yet. And remember that losing weight, 80% is diet, 20% exercise. There are some that get to goal with very little exercise. And I know telling you now to dwell on that 3 lbs is crazy to actually do! Also, remember that at 3 weeks, it's the time when most have their first stall... the body is catching up with all of the loss. Could that time of the month be playing into the weight gain? Have you been drinking enough Water? How long has the 3 lbs been around?

    When to start exercising?

Don't sweat the stalls. In the early days, stalls will freak you out, but rest assured, they pass and are usually accompanied by a BIG loss. You'll be losing quite a bit in the weeks after surgery without working out at full intensity. Please remember that no amount of exercise can prevent a stall. Your body doesn't care how hard you are trying. It has its own schedule and it makes absolutely no sense at all. I am so glad that I followed the recommendations about exercise prior to surgery and after surgery. They make all the difference in how you will look and feel as you lose.

hi Pamela, welcome to LBT. congrats on your loss so far.
  5. Through a separate weight loss program, I did Optifast 800 for 4 months total, 5 shakes or meal bars a day with nothing else! Had great success with it, lost 90 pounds in that 4 months. However, once it was over, the weight came back quickly. So here I am LOL. Stick with it though, I found that after about the second week your body really adjusts to the lower calorie intake. Just drink more water and you should be alright!

Not sure what I am doing??!!

Don't get the fill. You will become unbearably tight. I speak from experience. I was at 2.1 and got a fill to 2.6. I was at that level for two months. I knew it would be tight at first but I thought that it would loosen up with weight loss. It DIDN"T. I grimed and bared it for 2 months at this level. Lost about 20 pounds in 2 months but I couldn't eat anything. Eating took a lot of time, was painful, and I think I was starving myself. The doc took one look at me under floro and said it was too tight. He took me back down to 1.2ccs. I need to give my stomach a break for a few weeks and then I will begin my journey to finding the sweet spot again. Moral of the story: Don't get greedy. 5lbs a month is healthy, great weight loss. Eating is painful when you are too tight.

Not sure what I am doing??!!

This is very good information. I am only feeling slight restriction after my first fill. I think I will let it be for a while and see how my weight loss goes. It seems it would be better to be a little loose in the beginning than too tight and possibly have to have an unfill.:scared2:

    Hi i am very new

Just make sure you are VERY informed and educated about the entire process. I did not do enough research about Bandster HE**, hair loss issues and constipations. No regrets . . .. yet~ GOOD LUCK on your journey
  9. Went in for my monthly weigh in. 22.4 lbs lost this month.... The nurse practitioner said that was the largest 30 day loss she has seen. She did chew on me a bit for not getting enough protein....Started at 369 lbs current 306..I wearing a 38 waist for the first time in years. The biggest thing is my blood pressure is down an a decrease in meds is coming.I still have alot of doubters you thought surgery was the wrong choice, but all of my doubts are now gone.I'm now a 100% postive that i will get to my 177 lbs goal.I wont say this surgery is for everybody but for those of us who felt are lives slipping away, it's a life saver!

    Diet Coke

You are probably retaining fluid. I would suggest not weighing yourself every day because your body will fluctuate. But thats just me. I weigh in every week. I would suggest you do not drink any carbonated drinks ever again. They are not good for your band or your weight loss. Lots of chemicals too.

    Getting Close to Goal

I havent found I"ve had to add food back to stop losing, my weight loss just kind of petered out and whilst I can lose with effort, nowadays if I just eat what I want, when I want it, I maintain. I just sort of let my body stop where it wanted to, which was well under the top of my healthy weight range. I think I am actually losing VERY slowly, like 2lb in 3 months, but that no doubt will fade away too. I havent changed my exercise routine or anything. I think viewing goal weight as the end is a BIG mistake. Its just time to continue doing what you've done all along without the big reward of seeing exciting drops on the scales every week.
  12. Hello Forum, This is my first post. March 12 marked a year since my gastric sleeve. I have lost approximately 80 pounds but currently my weight loss has stagnated. Does anyone have any suggestions for overcoming this obstacle?
  13. Same here.... I called to schedule a fill and they cant get me in until the 15th... Always before they got me in the next day! Aahhhh two weeks! I am going to have to take up mountain climbing or something to combat all the food I'm eating! Okay, it's a ton less food than pre-banding, but it's still no fun to slow down on the loss journey.. plus I dont like getting hungry so often. It was so nice to be happy with a few meals and a Protein drink. :crying: They said to try calling back to check for cancellations so I might do that... Woot! A cancellation! I'm getting on the 8th. Thanks goodness.
  14. The last time I needed a fill, I was eating about 1 and 1/4 cup food, and getting hungry between meals and snacking. Right now, I'm only eating 3/4 cup food, but I lways get hungry between meals now and am snacking between meals as a result, to hold me over (trying to stick to healthy snacking, but its still adding too many calories). I was just wondering if others get hungry between meals when they need a fill, even if they aren't eating a whole lot more than half a cup. My doctor seems a bit strict on giving fills if you are eating less than a cup, but I'm hungry often. I swear it's generally not head hunger, though I have experienced that (head hunger to me feels more like a craving, actual hunger more in my stomach). The lack of hunger just doesn't seem to last long lately... perhaps a couple of hours. Also, I'm NEVER getting any kind of stuck feeling or caught in the stomach feeling. I used to get it occassionally for a second or two if I rushed things or carelessly swallowed a large chunk. I THINK I'm just stopping too early or something at the hint of satisfaction and it's the food moves through too fast. So in short, do you ever need a fill due to getting hungry too soon rather than just eating too large amounts? Is the band tricking me into stopping eating before I get enough of the 'full' sensation to keep me satisfied long enough? I'm not losing very much weight anymore either. I do need to exercise more, but at the same time, I'm still doing some and making healthy food choices... but I'm eating pretty often the past couple of weeks. It's solid foods (mostly chicken and various veggies and such) and I'm not drinking for a little bit before and for at least 30 mins after and I try to stretch that to an hour if im not too thirsty. Thanks for your advice. I just dont want to go into my doctor and be denied a fill or anything. It just seems like I should be eating larger quanties if I needed a fill. I've only had two fills that gave actual restriction, with the last one giving me the most. I'm still kind of getting used to this fill stuff. Oh, and I've lost about 22 pounds since my last fill about 9 weeks ago. More than the 2lb/wk. Most of my weight loss was in the beginning though.
  15. Wow - what a fantastic food intake — is now the focus of a fierce competition pitting consumer-products giant Johnson & Johnson against Botox maker Allergan Inc. Venture-capital-backed outpatient centers are popping up to implant the bands. Growing ranks of surgeons are touting the procedure at free public seminars. All see a vast market in a country where diet and exercise programs have failed to slow an obesity epidemic. Lap-Band v. Gastric Bypass Image A number of recent studies suggest that gastric banding is safer than gastric bypass, and some data suggest comparable, if slower, weight-loss results. Improvements in surgical techniques and follow-up care have helped gastric banding become the dominant weight-loss operation in Europe and Australia. Credit Suisse analyst Marc Goodman predicts that gastric banding will account for half of all weight-loss surgeries by 2010, up from about 30% today. GASTRIC BANDWAGON What’s New: Once dismissed as a gimmick, gastric banding is now seen by some in the medical industry as the next big thing in elective surgery. The Players: Industry giants Johnson & Johnson and Allergan, as well as venture-capital firms that are backing outpatient centers. Patient Concerns: The silicone device can shift after surgery, causing it to lose effectiveness. And patients may eventually need another surgery to replace or remove it.

    Advice please!!!!!!!!!!!!

jwright: I just had to answer your post because I know exactly how you're feeling. I was banded on 11-13-07 and was wondering if I would ever reach restriction. My doctor has been very conservative with the fills but after my 5th fill last week (7cc's), I think I've finally hit my "sweet spot". Hang in there and be patient. Keep going for your fills and you will get there and then your weight loss will take off. Watch and log what you're eating, and remember to exercise!! I learned that you can't wait for it, you have to make it happen.

    West Valley PCP's

Thanks for replying. I had a doctor I liked in Gold Canyon, but that's almost two hours from where I live now, which is 17 miles west of Grand. I'll drive to Mesa to get my old hairstylist to cut my hair, but not to go to the doctor! Guess that shows where my priorities are.
  19. Dunno. I had pretty slow weight loss overall (probably 1lb a week averaged out over the whole 90lb) and havent got sagging skin and I'm 40. But who knows? That could be just me. I'm going to say something I will get ABSOLUTELY FLAMED for, lol, but here goes. I reckon you can pick a mile off people who have had fast weight loss on high Protein diets. It produces a very distinctive look, and I was quite happy to eat carbs and lose weight slowly thanks.

    I miss my wine!!

Abeaher.....you should print out Jachut's response and show it to your hubby!!! Cheers to you, Jachut!!!! Fortunately, my DH is not the band police. I enjoy a few glasses of wine on Saturday's and it hasn't slowed my weight loss at all. Hope you can get your hubby to back off a bit!!

    Newbie

Hi, Inamed, makers of the Lapband system have guidelines for prospective patients. The US FDA has stricter guidelines. But with a bmi of only 27, you are only overweight...not even obese....the cdc considers a bmi of 30 or greater to be obese. Congrats on being only 3 bmi points above 'normal'. Since the band treats morbid obesity...you are very far away from that. But that's Inamed....maybe you could find another manufacturer that treats just people overweight and not obese. Good luck and don't give up on weight loss.

    1st fill?? When??

I'm not sure I understand exactly what your question is. From your topic title I thought you were asking when you would get your first fill but from your post I am not sure whether you are asking whether your weight loss is normal, whether it's normal to get 4cc in your first fill or even whether you are stating that you got 4cc in your band during surgery. There are plenty of very helpful people on this site who can help answer your questions if we know exactly what you are asking. Good luck.

    What is my problem?!?!?!?!

pplqueen -I loved what your doctor said about half of the people never get a fill & don't lose any weight. I am SURE that they messed up the statistics!! :girl_hug: That makes me feel so much better!! Linds - I have a feeling that there are a lot of people who are in our situation & it really sucks doesn't it? I can't imagine gaining back 70 lbs & I totally feel for you!!! :tired It's crazy that we know everything we should be doing, but she just don't do it!! I could teach a class on weight loss. I am an expert on it!! I just can't seem to apply all it of it to me. You can do it Linds. WE BOTH CAN!! Time to kick some butt here. I think I have made a big turn around for the better!! Over the July 4th Holiday, I did a lot of thinking. I am very good at earning rewards when I know there's something to win. So, I am going to motivate myself to lose those last 30 lbs!!! I posted this on my rewards thread, but I'll post it here too!! I had all my nails & everything taken off this weekend. I love getting manicures & pedicures because they make me feel so pretty!! Well, they are gone!! And, I won't be treating myself to ANYTHING until these last 30 lbs. are GONE!! Once I hit 170, I will be treating myself to an ALL DAY SPA TREATMENT!! There will be 10 things I will be indulging in that day & when I walk out of there, I am going to be HOT!! And, I'll have my pretty nails back. This has really lit a fire under my butt!!!!!! I am back on track & doing so good. For 3 days now, I haven't eaten any sugar, drank all my Water, ate good bandster foods AND I'm buying a treadmill this week. I AM GOING TO DO THIS!!!! :girl_hug: Thank you all for your comments & help. It really does make a difference when you know there's people just like you who are struggling right along with you. Next time I'll post it will be an update on my wonderful progess!! NO MORE COMPLAINING!!! I REALLY want my nails back on!! :phanvan
  25. That is not enough calories!!! Your body won't lose consistently regardless but 200 calories will put it in starvation mode and mess up your metabolism. You should try and eat 5-6 small meals with 3 hours in between. Protein first. Supplement with protein shakes if necessary! You have done well with your weight loss but that few calories and I'm sure too few protein is extremely bad for you.
