I am not a fan of yogurt but my NUT say it's very important to eat for protein. I break down and buy some and use no calorie sweeter just as recommended.... Seriously wanted to vomit!! I need help with this... Any suggestions? I plan on trying a bite a day so that I can get used to it.

If you are talking about plain greek yogurt, it does take time to get used to it. I used to add peanut butter, or protein powder to mine. Then I started adding Torani syrup. Now I have started using it to replace mayo in my tuna salad. I use a little lemon pepper in the yogurt and mix 2 tablespoons with 4 oz tuna. I think it rocks!

i am supposed to be taking 2 multis and 3 Calcium daily, along with a pill to prevent gall stones. none of these pills can be taken at the same time as any other pill. it's super annoying, especially because i am eating about 1500 cals a day, and so i am not malnourished. so, i am taking only 1 multi and 1 calcium a day. i don't need more calcium than that because i am drinking milk and eating yogurt. the thing is, the Vitamin instructions from my doc are the same for banding and bypass except that bypass is supposed to take a b12 pill also. but since i don't have part of my intestines bypassed, and i am able to absorb all of my nutrients, why do i need to take as many pills as a bypass patient? sorry, this is sort of a sore subject for me. i got yelled at by the nutritionist at my last post op. oh well.

kshepa replied to irish1988's topic in Food and Nutrition
Hi!! 10 months out, my favorite breakfast is Southwest egg beaters 3tbsp scrambled with 1/4c Jimmy dean turkey sausage crumbles. Sometimes I put 1tbsp of salsa on top. Sometimes I put some shredded cheddar cheese. Lunch-soup!! I love curried red lentil soup. Or cabbage beef soup. I work in a hospital that has 2 great soups for lunch everyday. Snacks-think thin bars, pure protein canned cookies and cream shakes, Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, turkey jerky, almonds Hope this helps -

thank you! I'm working with both a nutritionist and a psychologist, today was good day I try to eat more, even had pasta, Greek yogurt, and finally some shaved meet with olive oil and lemon. I was able to keep it down. I need to let myself gain some weight and be ok with it. Because I had surgery to have a healthy life with my kids and husband. -

honk replied to Kristy29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat lunch at around 1; go swimming in the early evening, and eat dinner around 7. Sometimes I have fruited Greek Yogurt by itself. Occationaly I will add vanilla flavored low fat/carb protein powder (and some splenda). Makes for a good prework out snack. -
Found a way to make my yogurt taste better!!
malinda1229 replied to Kristy29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been making my own greek yogurt..its easy and less expensive!! I just add fresh fruit..no sugar, no additives, nothing but fresh milk and fruity goodness. You can find the method on our blog www.thereddragoncafe.blogspot.com I'm also finding that it is more filling eating whole or cut up fruit rather than the sugary processed fruit they put in yogurt. -
Well, the pain in moreso from the wounds and my 'tummy' still being swollen... Everything seems like its getting stuck, including liquids... I'm taking pain meds (not too often as I'm nervous about forming a habit) pepcid 2x daily, chewable vitamins, and anti nausea when needed.... The protien shakes were making me sick, so after a lengthy discussion with my dietician, she suggested I find my protien elsewhere. So I am drinking 2% milk (skim 4 weeks after surgery), yogurt, and Soups with no less than 13g of protien.... I'm trying to get all my protiens in, but the dietician wants me to focus on hydration right now and in a week or two, it'll be easier to get the correct amount of protiens in... But it feels like nothing will be normal again... :-( ~emily anne

how much can you eat with the sleeve longterm
par1959 replied to SUNNYNYC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How much you eat depends on what you eat. If you eat solid protein such as chicken of beef 4 to 6 OZs is all you will fit. It you eat soup one or yogurt one can get a lot more down. The trick is to eat and make yourself full. Easier said than done. You will find getting use to smaller meals its that bad, but it does take time. -
Question on Being Full
sparky1582 replied to stevey820's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to second and third Betsy and vlp. I had my 2nd fill yesterday(No issues this time!) which brings me to 6cc in a 14cc band and have found I eat 1/2 to 3/4 cup(total) of food and I am full for 3 to 4 hours. Not stuffed but like Betsy B said and I'm not hungry. I also eat 5 to 6 times a day but I eat 3 small meals and have 3 to 4 snacks a day. I snack on natural almonds, yogurt, a slice of cheese or Protein bar. I am NEVER starving but I do get hungry. It is so cool to be learning the differance. I have lost 38 pounds since 8-15-10 It has taken over 40 years to put all this weight on and it is gonna take some time to loose it. -
Hello all... New here and sleeved on April 8th. Many of you are before me so it's inspiring and informative to read how you are doing, what your going through and how you've made out. Today i'm 10 day's out and noticed I can take a few bigger sips of liquid. Hopefully I can get a some more liquid in during the day. I find it very difficult to keep a cup in my hand and sip every few minutes. The post surgery pain has subsided substantially after day 6. The first 4 days were terrible for me. I still had to use pain meds and spent 1 extra day in the hospital. I think the walking has helped eliminate it. I did attempt to cheat and have a bit of pizza yesterday. Why did i do that??? (StupidMcNupid) It hurt like crazy and I had to call the Doc. Won't go into what he told me... The pain was so bad I had to pray. Had a "#2 blowout" and felt a little better. 4 hours later i started to normalize and feel better. PLEASE, PLEASE don't follow my lead on that one. I was weak and paid the price so that you guys don't have to. Other than that, my energy levels are quite good. I'm sleeping earlier than normal and waking up a bit early as well. Thats good to get an early morning walk in. I'm unsure who's tracking calorie intake but each day (2 shakes / 2 soups / 3 tsp of yogurt) i'm averaging a little less than 500 calories a day. Scary for me. Doc say's don't worry but wondered how and how you guys that are close in dates to me are doing. D

I was really hungry the first couple of weeks post surgery while on liquids. Not sure of your plan but it helped me to not be so hungry to have creamy Soups, thinned yogurt and keeping up on my Protein shakes. I've moved up to purees now and that helps even more. Make sure you're getting in all you're supposed to. You will make it through.

Will I feel light headed or jittery from not eating enough
honk replied to girlpokerchamp's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am preband. I also have had episodes where I am so hungry and blood sugar has fallen (not diabetic) where I get light headed and feel faint. This however really only happens when I have not eaten for like 7 hours; which really is pretty stupid on my part. True, this is usually due to scheduling issues at work or being on vacation and not having ready access to food. I am pre band and am on a pretty strick self imposed diet around 1,000 cal. a day. I do an hour of cardio a day. I do try to keep my blood sugar steady by having a high Protein low fat/calorie snack late afternoon (greek yogurt, chicken, string cheese). My surgeon does not really believe in the low blood sugar thing but I know it's true. My regular size sister has the same problem as did my father. -

It's not just you, and you're not imaging it! I had my sleeve 2 weeks ago tomorrow, and I have noticed things I could drink with no problem before surgery no longer taste good to me, and make me want to gag! I cried the other night because I miss being able to eat a hot meal, some meat especially! My husband is very loving and supportive, but he does make and eat hot meals in front of me. He drives me crazy watching him eat it, smelling it, and wanting to be able to eat it! I'm so sick of protein shakes, yogurt, sugar free pudding, and broth! People have no clue just how hard this is! Everything revolves around food. Parties, get together's, holidays, almost everything! If anyone thinks this is the EASY WAY OUT, they couldn't be more wrong! This is not for the weak of heart, or the quitting kind of person for sure! I use to love a couple cups of decaf coffee in the morning when I get up, but since my surgery it no longer taste good to me. Now I drink decaf tea instead. Not sure why your taste change, or why things seem to smell even more than they did before, but they do! I'm hoping in time we will get more use to our new stomach's, and our new life styles. Also as the weight continues to drop off, and we can wear smaller, and smaller clothes that it will be all worth it! Hang in there you're not alone, and you're not alone with these feelings you're experiencing. I thank God for this web site where other sleever's can help each other through these rough patches. God bless, and feel free to add me as a friend on here. Kathy

What Did You Eat Today?
hopefloats replied to Michele1975's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on October 12- Breakfast - Protein shake Lunch - 4 oz. poached salmon and 2-3 oz. spinach Dinner - 4 oz. broiled talapia and 2-3 oz. mixed veggies During the week when I work I always bring a greek yogurt and peach for a snack in case I get hungry. -
Sure, it sounds like you are too tight. I can get food down better standing than sitting when I am too tight. Strangely enough, we often don't lose weight when we are too tight, because it is too easy to eat the wrong things and give up on the band. That said, you need to re-evaluate your commitment to eating better. Why do you have mayo, gravy and potatoes in the house? You need to stop buying them! No one needs them and if they are what you use to eat badly, you need to get them out of the house. I have no sugar, flour, potatoes, Pasta, rice, or bread in my house at any time unless I am having long term guests. I know if those foods walk through the door, my resolution to not eat them walks out. This morning I was thinking pancakes sound good for Breakfast. I rationalized that swedish pancakes didn't have much flour and were mostly egg; then I realized I didn't have ANY flour around. Problem solved and temptation averted. Just because you are too tight is not a reason to eat high calorie foods. You can still do low sugar Protein shakes, lowfat low sugar yogurt, Soups, and other healthy mushie foods until your unfill. Consider yourself kicked in the ass. Get to work and make this work for you!

Most Protein drinks are horrible but not all. Really, the best thing to do is to find what you do tolerate. Something like Body Fortress, Matrix, those drinks in a tube. smoothies are loaded with calories and that is the very thing you are trying to avoid. Too many smoothies and you'll be working around your band. The better you make your smoothies taste the more calories they will have. But I do have one that I used to make. Keep in mind, if you are on Clear liquids after surgery a smoothie is not workable. 5 large frozen strawberries 1 large handful of mix frozen berries (blue, red, and blackberries) 1 container Dannon Lite Yogurt (strawberry or plain) 1-2 oz Water Make sure the fruit is frozen, put all in a blender and this tastes like Jamba Juice' berry Fulfilling.

Try them soft boiled (6.5minute eggs) with a 1/2 tsp of real butter. Or a dollop of grk yogurt. They go down very very easily. -

7 days Post op cravings and tiredness
Gauge'sMom replied to Gauge'sMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not eating solid food.. I said soups, yogurt, applesauce. My Dr allows what they calls a slip & slide diet. Anything that easily slips through a funnel is ok -

Yesterdays 'food' wasn't too exciting. Still full liquids: 2 cups milk with 2 scoops Myology chocolate (30 grams Protein a scoop) 1.5 cups Egg Drop soup 32 oz diet decaf iced tea 1 SF Jello 16.9oz bottle Water Energy: 544.2 (500.4 net) kcal / 970.0 kcal (56%) Protein: 84.2 g / 110.2 g (76%) Carbs: 43.8 g / 22.0 g (199%) Fat: 4.6 g / 49.0 g (9%) Now today's 'food' was a bit more interesting! I was encouraged to try adding cottage cheese by my nurse (preferably whipped, but I didn't find any). 5-9 grams a day is so low. I took 1/2 cup 1% cottage cheese, 2 TB grated parmesan, and a dash of onion and garlic powder. I mixed it up and microwaved it for 1 minute. Not only is it really hitting the spot and going down easy, but it is gooey, cheesy, and the curds mostly disolved into mush! MMM! Todays menu: 1 cup milk with a scoop og Myology Chocolate (30 grams) 1 cup egg drop soup 1 cup potato leek soup w/ 2 TB parm cheese 16.9oz water 2 cups dec diet iced tea Dannon Light and Fit Greek strawberry yogurt (haven't eaten it yet, but I plan to!) 1/2 c 1% fat cottage cheese w/2 TB parm cheese Energy: 615.9 kcal / 970.0 kcal (63%) Protein: 77.7 g / 110.2 g (71%) Carbs: 50.5 g / 22.0 g (229%) Fat: 12.0 g / 49.0 g (25%)
