Overweight instead of Obese
thinoneday replied to Tiffykins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Good for you Tiffy! It's a long struggle, but I'm so glad there is help out there for us, that is a great BMI. . . the doctor thought my BMI of 41 was not enough to put me on a pre-op diet. . . . that was my first NSV! :001_tongue: -
So yesterday I bought a 'goal' dress, not something I normally do, but it was too beautiful to pass up and I'm just sick of telling myself "no". I'm currently a size 26/28 and the dress is a size 20. Wanted to see how others changed in sizes during their journey so I can gauge a realistic goal of how far out post op I want to be able fit into my first nsv goal.

What are some of your NSV
Miss Mac replied to byebyefat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here are 1,623 of them: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/276681-how-about-some-nsvs/?hl=%20nsv -
Ok, so I was getting dressed to run to the store with hubby, and pulled out a T-shirt. I looked at it and though, hmmm its a little small. It was one of my sons old t-shirts, a mens small, from way back when, not sure why I kept it, but there it was. Keep in mind that I have always worn a mens XL t-shirt, to hide the tummy etc. I said screw it and put it on. Yup, thats right folks it fit! Big smile about that one LOL

Anyone Else? (Possibly Tmi)

I've noticed this also! I never used to have trouble but now if I sit a certain way my tail bone begins to hurt. I've started to put a little pillow behind my back and I've started watching how I sit. In a way it's sort of a NSV...your new boney butt! -
Did I make the right decision?
Jerzygurl replied to linda305's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try using my fitness pal to track your intake. You said "you try to keep up with your protein" Could be you're not getting enough. I use my fitness pal to track every single morsel of food and liquid I put in my mouth. Once you get the hang of using it...it's a breeze. I agree with Curvy too. Make sure, you're checking your measurements, NSV are very important. Good luck..and hang in there. -
Today I am wearing a sweater I haven't been able to get into for 3 years! It is so exciting!

Slower than expected Weight Loss in the beginning
Kindle replied to rumpole6's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
First, don't compare yourself to others (but FYI, I lost nothing the first week and a half and it took me 3 months to lose 30 pounds. I was thrilled. I considered myself lucky because losing slowly is much healthier) Second, you are losing so whats the problem Three, you are approaching the famous 3 week stall so you may not lose anything for a couple weeks. It's normal. Fourth, this surgery is meant to be a lifetime commitment, not a race to see how fast you can take off the weight it took years (or decades) to put on. Your goal should be eating healthy and establishing new habits, not watching numbers. I suggest staying off the scale for 1-2 months. Measure your progress with NSV's rather than meaningless numbers on the scale. I don't even own a scale at only weighed at the doctor's office for the first couple months. You are adding unnecessary stress to your life by worrying about these things. Just get in all your Protein, Water and Vitamins, and trust the process. -
WTG!!! Wow and that was really fast, you go girl!!! How thrilling. I too just posted my first NSV today and it is so exciting to have all of these positive things happening to us. It's like what we hoped and dreamed for, right? Congrats and keep up the great work!!! Cindy:Bunny

Awesome NSVs!

I love flying and riding roller coasters. Both of these things are hard for someone who is 160 pounds overweight. I flew to NYC in June (120 pounds down!) and didn't have to ask for a seatbelt extension! And today we are at Worlds of Fun and I can ride EVERY RIDE! I love weightloss!!

Good job! I paid $50 for a Nike jacket a couple months ago because it was the first time I had ever fit into an extra small. I was also not thrilled with the price, but when you have great NSV's like you posted about, it's ok to splurge a little!

NSV -- Finally Weigh Less than My Husband!
Kris posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi all my fellow sleevers, Like most sleevers, when I had my VSG procedure I set some weight loss progress goals so my ultimate weight loss goal (99 lbs.) didn't seem quite so impossible. Aside from my ultimate weight loss goal, the one goal that I really, really wanted to achieve was to weigh less than my husband ... and finally, today was the day! WOOT!?! I saw 170.4 on the scale and knew I was really close to his weight, so I called DH to hop on the scale. He obliged, and the scale said he weighed 172.8 -- more than 2 lbs. more than I weigh. This is a sweet NSV! We are having our 15th anniversary on Wednesday, and for most of our marriage, I have weighed more than DH. But not this year! This is the best anniversary present I can think of! I still have nearly 40 lbs. to lose to hit my ultimate goal, so my weight loss journey still has a quite a ways to go ... but today I am pretty darn happy! -

This weekend I went out and hit some garage sales looking for things for my son's new apartment. I saw this very cute denim skirt. It was a size 10. Knowing that I could never wear it I bought it for my daughter....it was only a quarter. I brought it home and, just for $hits and giggles I thought I would try it on and see how close I was to it fitting. I just went from 14 to 12 a couple weeks ago...in fact some 12's still don't fit. Well guess what? That's right...THE DARN THING FIT! Seriously???? Me!?? A 10???? Me who was a 28 just 3 years ago???? Sorry, Kid. Mom's keeping this one!!

Please Talk Me Down
hopeandfaith replied to kristykreem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
KristyKreem, Sleevesearch is right! I haven't been sleeved yet but I've read as many post on this website as I can and I've decided I am NOT getting on the scale everyday after I have my surgery. I told my Therapist this and she said OH YOU WILL WANT TO and I said NO I've let my weight control me most of my life. I refuse to let the SCALE take control. If you want to read some WONDERFUL SUCCESS stories to get you motivated there is a forum on your NSV= NON SCALE VICTORY!!! As for me I'm going to save ONE pair of my favorite capris and when I have a bad day I will try them on to SEE THE RESULTS!!! GOOD LUCK girl and HANG IN THERE!! It sounds like everyone goes through this and YES as soon as the second week!!! Just know it WILL come off!!! Your body is adjusting! -
Wow, this weight loss ride is a trip. So I have had some SV and NSV since my last blog post and I can hardly wrap my head around them! 1. SV - my scale said 219.8 this morning. WHAT'S THAT YOU SAY??? I can NOT remember the last time I weighed anything like that. 219.8??? I remember when my goal was 250. Then I got stuck at 238 for like...a year! Then my goal was 225. But 219 is a number I never even dared hope for. Crazy. HOWEVER...still have a lot of work to do. I need to start exercising in earnest. Long walks are nice but it's not where it needs to be yet. But I'll beat myself up over that some other time....219.8! 2. A guy in my office left on a months long business trip in June. Before he left, we had drinks and all he talked about was "hot chicks". Now....I'm not interested in this guy in a romantic way, but still...it was clear that I was NOT being included in that classification. I sort of vowed that I'd lose some weight while he was gone..."I'll show him!" At first, I wasn't doing the work and thought...this will be yet another time I DON'T lose weight. But then I recommitted. He's back now and we made plans for catch-up drinks. As we were finalizing, he said "have you changed your hair?" (that old saw ) I said no and then...he gave me the old up and down eye scan! This is a new one to me...I've seen guys do it to other women...the "ok, you've got a pretty face but what does the rest of you look like?" But I've rarely had it happen to me. But today, it happened! He said that he wasn't sure what was different (really?) but that it was "working for me". Doesn't exactly make me a "hot chick" but a step in the right direction! I'm not one to judge my all of my efforts by male reactions but darn it if I didn't feel a sense of accomplishment all the same! Speaking of male reaction, I think as my confidence has grown, my radar is much more attuned. I'm noticing more male attention. Not to say it's all due to 20 or so lbs...more likely, I wasn't paying attention before because of low self-confidence. But I'M reacting differently now...not averting my gaze, letting my own looks linger a bit. Great NSV there. I hope to get to the point where I don't bolt for the hills when some guy tries to make a connection. 3. Halloween hooray! I wore a cute costume for the first time ever with calf hugging boots for the first time ever. Nice! And I didn't hate myself in the pictures....even nicer! Not hating myself in pics is DEFINITELY an NSV. I aspire to actually like myself in pics someday! 4. Oh yeah, the title of my post! I went to Lane Bryant for some winter clothes and....their 1x shirts were looking a little big. :w00t: I skeptically took a pair of size 16 jeans, their lowest size into the dressing room...and they fit snugly, not tight, snug, the way jeans are supposed to fit. That was last week...now they are a bit loose in the thigh. I found a Venezia size 1 jeans on sale for $3.99 and I have no idea what size they are supposed to be but they looked *small*. This morning, I was able to button and zip. Not yet ready for primetime but maybe by end of year if all goes well? Now I know that Lane Bryant's vanity sizing has gotten out of hand but I am MORE than ready to leave that store behind. Now into Old Navy XXL which is AWESOME because it means that I can run into any Old Navy and buy some clothes just because I forgot to pack something (travel a lot for business) or because they have something I like. Yippee! Next comes a challenge...a business trip for 3 weeks to India and Thailand. My medical doctor has warned me....no veggies, salad, fruit...basically nothing that has been washed in water in India under any circumstances unless I want to get violently ill. He actually said..stick to curries and fried things. You would think I'd be looking forward to it but I'm not really. Not that I'm some vegetable lover all of a sudden but also not looking forward to going backwards. But I have learned a few tricks in the last few weeks...like only eating enough to stop hunger and not a bite more. Pushing the plate away with enough food for another 2 meals has gotten MUCH easier. I don't really care what others think about it anymore, and I don't feel guilty for "wasting" food. So hoping to at least "hold steady" by keeping portions small. Won't worry too much about not getting in enough calories or macronutrients, or eating "too much"...I'll live. Onward!

So for those, say either 4 months out or about 50 lbs. down – I have a suggestion: think of the things you are going to do today or did this morning that you would not have been able to do, or do without discomfort, etc. – and share them!!!! Let’s give our brave new pre and post sleeve brethren some NSV’s to look forward to! <3

I have hope. I think. Looked it up and it means - 1 : to desire with expectation of obtainment 2 : to expect with confidence. Yes, that's it - HOPE. Haven't had that for a long time. So thankful for my LAP-BAND® and my LBT friends - you're awesome support! I'm feeling so much better - getting my energy back, eating well now, and feeling good about the weight loss and weight shift (I get measured in a couple of weeks so am real sure there are NSV there.) Cleaned out my closet this weekend. Put the 'fattest' clothes together to the side - won't be wearing those ever again. Now everything in my closet fits. Also organized my shoes --- funny how my feet gained weight and I'm newly fitting into some of my old smaller shoes again. Fun!

When you stall...
Spirit Fire replied to maharet111's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just tell them I'm at a plateau and will start losing again when the plateau breaks. I know some successful people who stalled for 2-3 weeks while other successful people had 9-month plateaus. It is different for everyone. For me, from the very beginning, I've been up-front and honest with myself and others. I've been on a very slow crawl ever since September, but seem to have NSVs often so my body is changing and the way people see me is changing even when the scale doesn't reflect these changes.
