  1. I was banded on 9/22 and last week I could feel my port. I feel it when I walk and bend over. This is a huge yuck for me. It's on my right side about 4" under my breast. I wasn't prepared for this. But I am told it's normal.
  2. Hello All, I had surgery two weeks ago and all appears well. I have been a little aggressive on the 'pace' of moving from clear liquids to full liquids to pureed/soft foods ~ but always very limited quantities [measured by the tablespoon]. I've never had any stomach pain or weird feelings so I hope everything is OK in there. After surgery my doctor said my port was right in the center... under my under-wire bra band. I can see the incision but I don't think I can feel the port. Can someone tell me what the port should feel like? I'm also feeling a little guilty about not following exactly the diet and I'm afraid I might have done something to impact the band. Anyone else have consequences of not behaving? Can you please share? I'm starting to get a little paranoid! Thanks in advance for your input!

    Shower question

Kim, I was like you - I was using goo gone weeks after surgery to try to get the damn things off. 3 days of no showering? That sounds nutzo to me. I can't get into the bed with dirty feet, so I showered the same day as surgery. If you're super paranoid, wrap some saran wrap around yourself.

    Shower question

HI Yoda! This is my third Lap surgery. (Gallbladder removed, Hyrnia repair and now Banded!!!) Yeah!! Each time, I showed within the day I got home. As early as the day after surgery. And like many, the strips are on for weeks and you have to take the ones that wouldn't budge, off yourself. And I wash mine gently. If you are apt to not heal and infect easily, just let the warm water run over them, and any soap that naturally does. Be gentle to you!!!! And please shower girl, that smell is putrid! LOL JOKING!!!!!

    Need some advice, please...

Wow, Restless Monkey, you are absolutely right! I am definitely consistently losing at least 2 lbs a week. Some weeks it's been 3. I'm sure once I get started on Curves, that will really get my metabolism going. I think I was getting in to that "quick fix" mode. I truly appreciate what you had to say. I'm not gaining OR standing still. I need to hear (in this case SEE  ) those exact words, cuz I think I knew that all along. Like I said QUICK FIX mentality getting the better of me. I have a regular appointment on the 21st of October. I think I will just hold out until then and see how it goes. Thank you, EVERYONE, for your kind words and responses. I knew there was a reason I love this board! God Bless! Andrea

    Need some advice, please...

I understand. I can eat anything in small portions. I am losing 1-2 a week so I wonder if I should even get another fill. I can't help thinking though that if I had good restriction just think how much I would be losing! I too have a hard time fitting in exercise with a full time job and 3 kids. I bought a bike and have been doing that plus aerobics tapes. Good luck to you, I know how hard it is, but we can get through it!

    New to sleeve

I had waves of drowsiness/fatigue too, especially the first two weeks. I just listened to my body, and took a nap when I felt sleepy. Loved it! Rest is healing. Was glad I took two weeks off work. Mushies gave me a much more normal energy level...but I was pooped by the time I finished my work shift, for about two weeks.
  9. I have a 12cc band on and currently have 9cc's in it. BTW- I'm a FEMALE!!!!!! This is really alot of Fluid from what I've been told! I ride a stationary bike for 30 mins 3x per week, my food intake is certainly less, but here I am almost a year post-op having lost a mere 15#. AND I seem to like to gain 5, lose 5, gain 5 lose 5. I am feeling like this just isn't working for me. Does anyone have any thoughts on why I haven't lost hardly anything? I am due for another adjustment in about 2 weeks and I would assume I'll be up to 10cc's full by then

    Baby Food During Mushies Stage?

I tried some baby food. A friend of mine who has a baby told me that babyfood fruit can actually be pretty tasty. LIES! ALL LIES. It was gross. I've got three jars of Gerber stage 3 and not a clue what to do with them.

    Pre-Op Diet

I had my consult and now my next step is to book my surgery date. I haveto do the pre-op diet for two weeks, like some of you I HATE cottage cheese. What yogurt should I stick to? I know I shouldn't have any with the fruit bottoms and it should be sugar/fat free. Is there any one type thats better then the others (not a big yogurt person).
  12. I had my lapband surgery on January 7. What is the average weight loss for the 1st week? I'm still feeling hungry. Is that normal?

    Cleaning Out My Closet.

Honestly? I've been big for so long, I don't have a lot of smaller clothes (a few size 18s that a friend gave me after she had WLS a few years ago, but I was never able to wear them anyway), so I don't have a lot to shrink down into. I did get a pair of denim shorts on yesterday that I've never fit into before, so I was really happy for that...but they were a size 20. I did clear out four huge boxes of 2x, 3x and 22s that I can no longer wear (or won't be able to wear come winter), and one of the local charities is coming next week to pick them up. Hopefully they'll go to a good home (the charity gives clothes away to people in need. I know from experience that they rarely have nice clothes in larger sizes, so now they're getting a ton) I have seen some utterly adorable clothes at Old Navy that I can't wait to be able to fit into. Or hell, even some of the Zumba workout clothes. I'm saving my money for a small shopping splurge before winter so I have enough pants to get me through. I don't mind so much if shirts are too big, but pants that are too big fall off my butt.
  14. I am only 7 days post-op. Pre-surgery I often skipped periods. I had my period just a week before surgery. I dropped 23 lbs. my first week & got my period today. Have you found since surgery that your period cycles are different? Do you also find that you are a little more "hormonal" than you were before surgery. Thanks in advance.

    Wondering

yep- asked my doc a couple weeks ago... when we eat too much the pouch is too full, pushes the band into the diaphragm, causing the referral pain in the shoulder. it SUCKS.
  16. I had to go see my nutritionist because I was having a hard time figuring out good healthy ways to get more Iron. I had a bad iron deficiency for the last few weeks. We talked it over and she mentioned she thought I was lacking in more areas as well. She and my surgeon both said not to diet. Just make healthy choices. Of course my nut. made some suggestions. She said to eat a slice of citrus fruit with all of my meals containing meat because it helps with the absorption of the iron in the meat. Wow! I never would have thought of that. She is great. Anyway, it depends how I feel but I can eat anywhere from 900 to 1300 calories per day. 900 being right after a fill because I get full SUPER fast and I'm typically not hungry at all. Also depends how tight I feel that day... Regardless I'm losing pounds at least three out of four weeks per month. She also suggestion strength training every OTHER day. Your muscles actually act as an agent to burning more calories during the day.

    Finally Joined!

Hi All! I've been a lurker for the past 2 months and everything on here has been really helpful! I was sleeved on October 10th, 2010 with Dr. Mark Colquitt in Maryville, TN at a starting weight of 308lbs. This has been the best thing I've ever done for myself!! I've now lost 76 lbs and am feeling soooo much better! I still have a long way to go but it doesn't seem so overwhelming now. I go to monthly support group meetings (which I highly recommend) but in those off weeks this forum has been a lifesaver! Thanks to everyone who continues to post updates... Us newbies really can use your helpful advice!
  19. Thank you all for your comments. In my case with the copd, is I have had three exacerbations in 1.5 years, and am on Oxygen 24/7 and all the drugs for copd. The first exacerbation really changed my life and I have never fully recovered as far as stamina. My PFC showed 65%. I am very glad to hear that some are losing weight without exercise. Very encouraging. Thank you all so much.
  20. I started going to the gym on my second week post surgery... So far, I am at 218lbs and I started out at 235. In one month, I have lost 17lbs. I think working out helps...do you?? Although my clothes feel looser around my waist, I can pretty much still fit in all of them...not about to buy anything new for myself until I am under 200lbs...that'll be my reward.
  21. I have been on this journey since 2006. It is so up and down that if you let it get to you, you will be driven crazy withing a few months. All that you need to worry about is that you are following your band rules, exercising, and eating properly. Then, if the scale doesn't move, you know that you are doing your part and that your body just has to get with the program. Everyones body is different, and loses weight differently. Never expect what the most successful bandster experience in weight loss. It can get frustrating. Or at least it did for me. Let your body take the journey at its own pace and enjoy. Pounds will be gained and lost and regained many times. Don't panic. I use the 5lb rule. If I gain more than 5lbs. and keep it on for over a week, and am eating more than I should and still following rules, and exercising, I call the doctor for a fill. You will find how your body works, and be able to fine tune it so it works for you. Good Luck!

    Trouble.....

I'm day six out of my operation and the first two/three days I was home was able to drink all my water and shakes now I'm having hard time just doing water. This scares me as I am on heart meds and mental meds and I am not able to take them like I need to. I already notice I cry more and feeling down and heart racing. Does anyone have any tips or advice on something I can try?
  23. Hey there, I think everybody has different orders according to their doctor. My doctor said that I should wait 6-8 weeks before doing anything other than walking. Not to lift anything more than five pounds up until then. But walking is definitely encouraged! This is just to make sure everything heals nicely... the walking is to help prevent any blood clots and to clear out any pressure build up from the air they pump into you for surgery... which can cause some discomfort. With that said, after my 8 weeks of healing is up, I fully intend on working out big time... just like any other diet, or lifestyle change, you will ALWAYS benefit from exercise... having a proper blend of cardio and weight resistance regimen. You will look and feel healthier... and will be up strength. In my opinion a thin person with muscle definition looks so much more healthy and sexy... but that's just me. Good luck to you!!
  24. Hi, I'm just 8 days out. I know it was surgery, but nothing like a bypass would have been. I am very uncomfortable; still can't get a right position in the night to sleep through, without an Ambien. I feel like I'm getting some headaches, that can be due to the cold I've seemed to have caught right after surgery. My major complaint is that I don't feel 'normal', or 'good'. There are so many new feelings I'm dealing with - and I think for the most part I'm afraid they're going to stay with me. For instance, the way I burp is different, it's held back, and followed by a pain that feels like 'pricks'. In my stomach, I feel like it's pins and needles of sorts. I kind of expected to have the band, eat until full then empty - and feel hunger again. I haven't felt any hunger in over a week. HEHE - funny I should be complaining about that! Could this be the 'normal' that I will now be facing? Will I always have this 'pins and needles' feeling in my tummy? I'd kill to let out a good strong belch. I'm confusing gas with nausea. Heck, I think it's time I might have to get to the shrink...:faint:
  25. I think the swelling idea is right on. I wasn't hugry for weeks after banding, then one day, I wanted food. I still don't feel ravinous or go into I'm starving mode anymore. I am much easier to live with now. I have to be careful to make sure my 5 year old daughter eats, she is on meds that kill the appetite and since I am never really hungry, we have gone hours and hours without eating. I have a reminder on my cell phone that alarms 3 times a day to remind me to eat....it actually says "Eat something.." I think the pins and needles feelings you are experiencing is nerves healing, at least that is what I was told when I asked about that feeling. Mine went away in about 3 weeks. I always tell new bandsters, that is does get better, it just takes time. ~Mandy
