No need to beat yourself up over a set back. Get back on the horse. The sum of small things repeated day in and day out will get you to your goals. Your surgery restriction will become less as you progress out from surgery. The majority of sleevers can consume more food months/years out. Don't waste your first year. It's your best weight loss. You can join us on the January weight loss challenge to stay motivated and get back on track https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/421742-❤-january-2019-challenge-❤/ Things that sleevers should know and prepare for: Stretching the sleeve - It's rare. If you are concerned have your surgeon diagnose it and look into a revision. Many people confuse the normal increased pouch space with stretching. (your stomach has not grown back to full size) Many also confuse grazing with stomach stretching. Grazing is eating small meals (combinations of healthy/unhealthy food) throughout the day that total over your calorie and macro goals. It is as if you never had surgery. You will gain weight. Just because we can consume more calories with the extra space does not mean we have to fill that space. You can eat healthy foods, be satiated, and stay within your calorie goals. Off my soap box. 🙂

    EGD Today

Well, I had my EGD today and it was all good news. I am able to get the band out and do the sleeve revision all in the same surgery!!! I meet with the Nut next week to start my 3 months and psych in May. I am praying for approval and surgery before the end of June! I'm going on a cruise in July and I would like to have it done prior to that. When I had the band put in, it was about a week of post-op recovery. Can anyone tell me how long the recovery is with the sleeve? Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App
  5. This is a unfortunately a very familiar story with the band. I was banded in 2009 and had great weight loss for 2 years The.....nothing. stopped completely. The research shiws clearly that this is the bodies response to the starvation. I had my band revised in 2012 but never got real success.Since then i have slowly regained 90% of my loss over 4 years. Next week I'm scheduled for a revision to a bypass. My surgeon who is a leading weight loss expert in Australia said the band is simply not effective for me any more. The body fights to get back to original weight....the fat cells have a memory! Aside from that the band has eroded into my stomach and has caused a hernia...common side effect. The European stats show that 80% of patients will have the band removed within 10 years. The procedure first started in Europe so they have more data. If you're not getting restriction ask to be checked for slippage ir a hiatus hernia. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

    Band removal and hernia repair

I had lap band revision (reposition of the band) with hernia repair, and the recovery was a little tougher than the original lap band surgery because of the scar tissue on my stomach. Basically weaker than last time, but felt better both times by day 8. good luck!
  7. I was denied - I'm shocked. I meet their requirements. BMI 35 2 meds for HBP Supervised diet not required for surgery before March 15 (I'm scheduled for March 13) Blue Cross The peer to peer is on Tuesday and I have no idea what to expect
  8. I'd tell me that everything is going to be okay. That the sleeve will actually help manage my/her out of control hunger and cravings. I'd tell her to make a strong commitment to thinking about food in a new way and redefining her relationship with food. (Actually I told myself that last part back then and I really did shake things up). I was a band-to-sleeve revision, so having had one weight loss surgery fail I was so much more scared of failure the 2nd time. I assume you're pre-op? I recommend reading a lot on this site and getting yourself as prepared as you can for the way you'll be eating post sleeve - and for what to expect before/after surgery.
  9. I had a VSG in November 2010. I got pregnant 7 months later and after losing maybe 50lbs, I never lost again. I'm going through the process of getting revision surgery, this time full RNY. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

    4/20/09 Countdown... 5! 4! 3! 2!...

Well, I told the boys Sunday that I'm having surgery. I told them it's a stomach issue and that I'll be having laproscopic surgery (explained all that), and I told them I'll be getting some internal stitches...then my white-lie...hiatal hernia. I HATE, HATE, HATE, lying, but I really don't want to tell anyone and with two big family events coming up there's no way it wouldn't have leaked out...if that happened the whole graduation party would be about me and not DD...I'm not willing to risk that, and I don't want to have to defend my position or talk about this now. The boys are comfortable that it's not a big deal and that I only have to stay in the hospital overnight because it's the law here (true). I explained the post-op expectations, soreness, liquid diet, etc. It went well. I called my bariatric coordinator this morning because I noticed the post-op diet I received in class didn't jive with what the NUT gave me. Apparently they just revised it and took off fruit and vegetable juice. So, for the first 2-3 weeks post-op the only calories I'm allowed are broth (almost no cal...but the homemade stuff I made is probably got more nutrients than the canned, thank goodness...thank you Voiceomt2002 for the recipes!), and 3 8oz. glasses of skim milk (how many calories could possibly be in 3C of skim milk...I'll have to look that up). I was about to complain that I'll be fainting on only a few calories a day when she said I can add some very low cal SF powdered drink mix to the milk, like SF Carnation (we still can't find that one, so DH just found me another one). I know I won't be hungry the first week, but I'm going to be starving after that...I know...it's all pay-back for the no pre-op diet. Ahh well, I’m not complaining…yet (LOL). DH and I are going out tonight for our 27th anniversary, since I certainly won't be up to anything but broth on our actual anniversary this Friday. I've been wildly getting things ready today; called my insurance to make sure the home prescriptions are covered (apparently Nexium sometimes isn't covered, but it is on ours), I started packing for the hospital, made a list of info. for DH, scrubbed my body with anti-bacterial soap as instructed, shaved my stomach and I can't tell the difference...my tiny blonde hairs were almost invisible, but now I can say it’s already done when they come at me with the dull dry razor (thanks xavier for cluing me in that it's better to do this at home…and I’m coming after you if I sprout dark stomach hairs this summer), and I drew up my porthole (thanks Lena) picture on paper…those in-the-know will remember I have a choice on my port site, if not read (Spew Alert!!) HERE. I still haven’t come up with whether I need words or not, but I’m a little afraid he won’t get it or think it’s a badly done tattoo and avoid that area completely. I’ll have to do this upside down on myself as DH can’t trace a straight line to save his life. If it turns out badly I’ll scrap the idea, but if I go for it I’ll take a pic for you. Off to finish packing... Countdown...5! 4! 3! 2!...Countdown to BG's Banding!!!

@@JazzyJeff chose the sleeve because I feel like it would fit me better as far as the amount of weight I am trying to lose and also keep off. With the sleeve they cut about 80-85% of your stomach out and create a new pouch. And I also chose the sleeve because my surgeon told me that with the lap band it often slides, or there are ways to get around it to gain the weight back. Which I assume can also be done with the sleeve. And also I have friends who have had the lap band and had it removed after loosing a lot of weight and they gained it back. But on a positive note the lap band is reversible so you are able to take it out or get it revised when ever you want. That's cool you don't have to do a 6 month supervised diet. I didn't either. I just needed to do the psych evaluation. .nutrition eval and labs.

    Hello

Welcome! I'm sorry you have to have a revision but I wish you a great outcome. At least you've been through this before, so you know the drill (although it's a different procedure, I know).
  16. Wow that’s really neat. The price isn’t bad either! Thanks for sharing! Height 5’6 HW - 275 SW - 265 CW - 209 GW - 150ish Sleeved 12/14/17 Revision to bypass due to complications 2/13/18
  17. people with acid reflux usually revise to RNY. It usually improves - if not outright cures - reflux.
  18. I came in for a band to sleeve revision but due to some erosion he found he felt it was safer to do 2 surgeries. I appreciate his concern but I am so disappointed. I don't know if I will be able to afford another surgery.

    No band for me today

Sorry to hear . My doc removed my band in March and refuses to do the revision because he wants the stomach to heal. Fortunately, my insurance and doctor cleared me for the sleeve exactly 11 weeks after the removal. Sleeved now!
  20. I'm 9 days post op band to sleeve revision. I have been on liquids such as Atkins shake, Jello, ice pops and yogurt and broth.. Tonight I attended a friends party and I ate very little guacamole and some fresh mozzarella cheese.i had no discomfort and chewed it well.. ? My doctor has me on liquids for first three weeks before moving onto purée or scramble egg, mash potato. Was this a mistake?
  21. Hello, all.... After extensive research, I've decided to revise from band to sleeve in Mexico. I was banded in 2005, and want to know about the issues with scar tissue. I have read some posts here where some people had a lot of scar tissue, but the surgeon completed the revision. While other surgeons didn't complete the revision because of scar tissue. For those of you who had your band over 10 years, and revised to sleeve, what was your experience with the scar tissue? Does it develop because of he length of time the band is in place? Or does it develop based on the person's body? Any insight is appreciated.
  22. Had the band done 6 years ago. Lost 160 lbs but had nothing but issues with vomiting.nausea. and unable to eat. My insurance now pays for sleeve and its all approved I am excited for the surgery and hopefully no more vomiting. the vomiting with band was from anything even liquid I think my body bated the band. I tell people the band like any weightloss surgery is a tool follow the rules and be strong

Surgery Date Moved Up To July 17

Fingers crossed, I will be a band to sleeve revision on 8/6 - will know in the next 2 weeks if my insurance will cover the revision and will then begin the 2 week liquid diet pre surgery. I totally understand the feeling like I failed w/ the band. and the "what if"...what if the sleeve isn't any different for me? I'm terrified. But I am more terrified of not trying. Wishing you the best of luck and hoping to hear more about your journey.
  24. true. It just worries me when they're trying to sell me on a revision to Roux en y or something like a sleeve. Recommitting myself but it's tough!
  25. SkinnyDown

    Undecided

RNY is reversible. Sleeve is not. They toss out all the stomach that gets cut off, with sleeve surgery. I did NOT want that surgery, I wanted something that if need be, could be reversed. I also have a large amount of weight to lose. (approx. 200 lbs) So it was the clear choice, for the amount of weight I need to lose. I'd consider how much weight you have to lose. If you have GERD/Reflux, and read on people who had to have revisions from sleeve to RNY later, due to the gerd/reflux issues. I really let my surgeon advise me, as to the best thing for me, because well, he's the expert. Good luck with everything. The right answer will come to you.
