It's something I am proud of, so mention it when weight loss or something comes up in the conversation, whether a date or an acquaintance. Proud of the weight loss Proud that I've maintained Proud of the hard work it takes and still takes Proud that I roll out of bed and immediately workout, seven days a week, with few exceptions I don't go into details, unless the person shows interest. Just a simple, "I had a sleeve gastrectomy to lose weight". Or if someone comments on how tiny I am, or maybe they feel bad about their weight, I let them know that I understand as I was almost 300 pounds and leave it there, unless they ask for more. I guess I'm more of love me or leave me type of person. At my age, I don't pussyfoot around the facts, I say things as they are in all respects. This way, I can be FULLY me and that is a VERY liberating feeling! I kind of wish I could have always had the confidence to be ME.

catwoman7 replied to ruxaradu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you might want to start at 800-1000 and see if that works. 500 may be a bit low for you given you're eight months out (although I do know people who've stuck with 600-800 until the year mark). I was in the 800-1000 range when I was where you are, and I still lost weight. But then so many things factor into weight loss (genetics, etc) that you sort of have to experiment to see what works for YOU. -
Who loves their band?
Catherine55 replied to JENNIFER7375's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love mine, too! I was banded 10/23/08, and it's been pretty much smooth sailing so far! Yes, I get stuck here and there . . and have the occasional PB. But that's a small price to pay for being 40 lbs down, having a steady, healthy rate of loss, and knowing that I'm going to be able to get to goal and keep it off. I posted earlier on your b-day challenge! Looking forward to keeping up with you on this road! Best, Catherine -
Hi Everyone! My name is Kim and I'm new here. I was looking to talk to people who have had lap band surgery that are in a similar to me in their goal. I am 5'5" tall and weigh 295lbs. I live in Southern California and have a referral for the weight loss surgery process. My medical group requires 6 months of classes (2x per month) prior to the surgery. Did anyone else have to do this? If so, was it beneficial? I have one child (almost 2 yrs old) and was really hoping to have more children. When I was pregnant I ate really well and lost 50 lbs (while pregnant) and since he was born, I have gained all of it back and another 25 lbs. One of my biggest concerns is not being to have children after the proceedure. Anyone have information on having children after the proceedure? I am terrified to have gastric bypass and feel more comfortable with the lap band proceedure but I have to do something. I really just don't want to have complications and possibly die from either proceedure, I have a child to live for. I am sure I will be posting more

Nioxin is fantastic shampoo to use. It is used a lot for cancer patients to help with hair growth. I have used it before due to some medications I was on to help my hair grow back and it worked wonderfully. My only downfall with Nioxin is that it broke my forehead out.

I've had my hair done every 6 weeks since before I got my sleeve and throughout the entire time I've had it. I have thin, easily breakable hair, and even though probably 1/3 of it fell out last year, it is now growing back in and I have my old level of thickness to about the tops of my ears. I have not noticed that my usual color or the foils I have done every 3 months made any difference in the fragility of my hair and I wasn't willing to have ugly roots just to find out.

Thinning Hair???
tabithainbremerton replied to jay150's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I already have hair loss and I haven't had the band yet- bad genetics. So I have been reading on how it can get worse post-lab band. It looks like Biotin is the way to go- that and enough protien. Dietary daily recommendations are 5000 to 7500mcg/day. I plan to start that right away to see if it helps. The stuff I ready said most people get enough of it in their daily diet, but I can imagine post-lab band we might not. Let me know if it helps, I see you said you're gonna start it. Me too! We will learn together! Tabby. -
About 6 months post op I started loosing hair. I went to the dermatologist and he said it was from rapid weight loss. He said your body goes into a kind of shock. It stopped a couple months later. I didn't take any kind of supplement, and ate about 80 gms of protien a day. I was lucky to have started out with a pretty thick head of hair.

i will also keep you in my thoughts and prayers! Congratulations on your weight loss and inches... those inches count for alot.

Hair Loss??? How many have it?
mwallis replied to jingleboob's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had a little bit of hairloss... it doesnt come out in chunks or anything, just a "thinning" of hair you could say. if you make sure you are getting all your protein and taking your vitamins, you shouldn't have a problem with it though. p.s. that's not shallow at all. -

Northern Mist replied to jingleboob's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded in February of this year and had a Uterine Ablasion done 4 weeks later (both with general anesthesia) and have not lost more hair than I usually do....I do have pretty thick hair and have ate a pretty balanced diet and most of the time just chew a kids vitamin or two a day. I'm lucky. -
weight watchers anyone?
LilMissDiva Irene replied to iammelissa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Overeaters Anonymous. After my revision and I'm all settled in with it and eating solids regulary I do plan to use this as another tool toward figuring out whats eating me, instead of what I'm eating. Once this weight is gone, I want it to stay gone forever. One thing I've learned with my current WLS is, never thing this weight will be gone forever simply because you have WLS. It can and it *WILL* come back if you continue to over eat and eat emotionally. Good luck to you! WW is a wonderful third tool option for Weight loss, but I for myself, I'm going to work on my issues from the inside out. I believe it will help me the most. -
weight watchers anyone?
*susan* replied to iammelissa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weight Watchers is one of, if not the best, weight loss programs out there, in my opinion. Whenever I was successful with weight loss prior to my surgery, it was with WW. As someone else mentioned, I am not sure you would be able to eat the amount of daily points they require. Perhaps you could speak with the WW leader and ask them if they might be able to alter the points plan to meet your needs. -

3 months - Hair Loss Post-Op
busybeebug replied to veryblessed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I noticed a,significant loss. I'm about 3 months out. Chopped my hair real short to make it look better and not as traumatic with bunches fall out. It literally made me cry at the gym Monday when I was toweling my hair off and a nice bunch of hair fell out. I walked into the salon next door, showed a photo from Pintrest and chop chop my shoulder length hair is a short choppy pixie. There are no bald spots which I am thankful for. -
3 months - Hair Loss Post-Op
triplethreat replied to veryblessed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At four months I was shedding like crazy. I'm six months out and it's finally stopped. I had several inches cut and layers added. I started with a lot of hair and it looks ok, but it's not full. I have been taking Biotin since surgery. Also, my hair texture changed... I have curly hair now, before it was wavy. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
it is what it is. Obviously, you can stretch and tone and hope for the best....but don't expect miracles. When you're done...if you don't like how it looks, consider plastics. Youth helps. Weighing less when you start helps. Good collagen genetics help. There is some evidence that losing weight slower helps, but the bottom line seems to be that loose skin is nearly unavoidable when you have a significant weight loss.

Alex Brecher mentions BariatricPal in this news article
Born in Missouri posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
August 27, 2018: The gastric bypass procedure reduces the size of a patient’s stomach by more than 90 percent. This procedure affects people physically and emotionally, said Alex Brecher, who launched the online community Bariatric Pal (bariatricpal.com) after his own lap band surgery in 2003. The website has message boards, a store that sells a wide variety of products for men and women who have had weight loss surgery, and even helps arrange less expensive surgeries in Tijuana, Mexico, for patients whose insurance won’t cover the procedures. http://www.dailypress.com/news/dp-fea-bolt-bariatric-20180802-story.html# Brecher, who traded in his lap band for bariatric surgery earlier this year, said the dramatic weight loss can also bring about some unexpected emotional issues. “Some people aren’t ready to look in the mirror and see something other than an overweight person,” Brecher said. “They see that different face looking back, and a lot of times they realize they still have to deal with the emotional things that got them to being overweight to begin with. When you lose weight and you’re not able to lean on food for emotional support, it can bring the other stuff to the surface.” -
frustrated with the yo-yo weight loss
new_me_2013 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
maybe i just need to vent, if so I apologize in advance. If Im doing something wrong someone please set me straight. Im 5 weeks post op today, & since about the 2nd week post op Ive done nothing but yo-yo up & down or stay at the same weight. Granted, I was sidelined with a UTI from the catheter in the hospital & took Cipro for 10 days, which I was told would make me retain water. I lost a few more pounds after it got out of my system but since then its been lose 2, gain 1.5, lose .5, gain 1 lb. SO FRUSTRATING!!!! Im getting my protein in (75-100g per my program) getting my fluids in & walking everyday for at least 30 mins. Only thing I could be doing wrong is weighing myself too often. somedays I do it everyday, some days I will skip a day or so. I havent had my monthly since pre-op too. That was last week in august. I had to discontine by birth control pills when I started by liver shrink diet & I didnt have one the whole month of September. I feel great, i still feel like I made the right choice, Ive had zero complications, Im eating normal foods, being good, no or little sugar, no breads, mostly just good lean proteins & fluids. Am I expecting to much too soon? Just seems like with all Im doing I should see more results....thanks for taking the time to read my vent. Hoping it changes soon! -
