Wow really? I still have to have liquids. Though I mix a lightly sunny side egg up now in my cream of wheat cause I hate cream of wheat and that actually is good. No broth for me. The sodium content is out of control and I don't want to retain Water. I have 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt with cinnamon, 1/2 cup cream of chicken Soup ( tonight I did cream of potatoe with pepper and garlic powder yum!), sugar free Jello snack pack, two six ounze skim milk cellucor Protein shake and 1/4 cup of cream o wheat. I eat a TON of sugar free Popsicles and super cold crystal light. I try and walk as much as I can a day. Day 2 was a block but day 8 I can do 1/4 mile. I sleep majority of the time. I can't wait for baby food in a week and have a variety up in here! 23 lbs today!! Day 9

Oops have different post op diets. After day four I could begin to add full liquids which included cream soups, shakes, yogurt, sf puddings, broth, sf Popsicles and of course sf jello. None of these hurt me at all I just couldn't eat much at a time. Love mush sp... So don't feel bad about your cheats... I think your diet is a tad strict . Not that I'm saying anything Negative about it, just don't be hard on Yourself! You guys are doing great!

As I approached goal, I added more fat (1% or 2% milk instead of skim, full fat yogurt and cottage cheese, 1/2 and 1/2 in my coffee, avocados, Peanut Butter instead of PB2, lots of nuts, etc) and more healthy carbs (lots of fruit, whole grain bars, whole grain cereals, bread, starchy veggies like corn, potatoes and yams). I make sure I still get my 60g Protein and 64oz Fluid everyday. I didn't stop losing completely since I'm 12 pounds under goal, but I slowed my loss to only 10 pounds in the last 3 months. I figure our bodies will stop losing when we find our new normal balance. I am able to eat a lot more now than I could at 6 months out, so you might, too. And it will be easier to stop losing once you can eat more.

It could be from taking your meds with only liquids. I know if I take ANY meds without something mushy or semi-solid that I will be nauseous as soon as the medication hits the bottom of my stomach. Our new stomachs have a narrow curve at the bottom now so pills tend to sit there as they dissolve and it can irritate the stomach lining quite a bit if they are sitting on bare tummy. Try taking them with something solid or yogurt or pudding at the very least so that the pills can dissolve in the food and not directly on the stomach lining before passing into the pylorus.

Don't forget yogurt and cottage cheese as protein sources. Most salad bars have cottage cheese, and maybe your school cafeteria has yogurt out for breakfast. -
My weight loss haulted at five months with RNY. CONFUSED
Breakingtheshell posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello everyone my name is Tina otherwise known as breakingtheshell. I really want to share my story with you I am so glad that I found this website. I am sure that there are many others out there with my situation maybe somebody can help me understand this because I asked my doctor my dietitian and they just seem to give me short answers and then there in a rush to get away I started out at 347 during my six-month counseling sessions and the day of my surgery I was 327 my surgery was on October 26, 2012. I wore a size 5x tops and bottoms or a 32/34 and my bra size funny funny was a 54 Double D. I never wore jeans after my disability which was a big contributor to becoming morbidly obese. Oh this is funny, I used to wear a size 13 wide shoe now I'm in a 12. How did that happen?? The surgery was extremely painful for me and it took a great five hours for them to poke and probe me and rearrange things rather then the simple 2.5 hours. My liver was extremely enlarged because I suffer from nonalcoholic liver disease so they needed to go in other places it was hard for them to lift my liver to work around it. I have been on the highest strengths of morphine for so long that when I got into the recovery room I felt all the pain and there was nothing else they could do for me so I stayed at the hospital for three days straight crying and begging for help to get rid of the pain.........I felt like I was butchered. By the way I was on pain medication for so long because I have severe back injuries I need to have a Nother three surgeries on my back I have fibromyalgia rheumatoid and osteoarthritis degenerative disc and joint disease spinal stenosis sciatica And everything else that causes pain. This is how I got started on my venturers for a gastric bypass surgery my back surgeon had to do another surgery on me but because I was so morbidly obese he refused to open me up on the operating table for fear that I would die. He told me I needed to lose over 100 pounds and in order to do that I had to go have the gastric bypass done so I quickly did my research checked my insurance and was approved quickly after six months of counseling. I lost a lot of weight I'm talking about 85 pounds by the end of my third month. I felt horrible I felt lethargic and spent most of my time in bed because I was so tired. My skin dried-up like you would not believe my face looked horrible like I had aged 10 to 15 years and I still with having pain in three months in my stomach area. Oh and the hair loss ......it's still coming out!! My six-month mark was on April 26, 2013. I had lost 122 pounds and my clothing sizes got to an extra large top a size 16 trying to wiggle into a 14 jeans and my shoe size went down and my bra size is now at 38b. When I look in the Mira I see a totally different person I look like a skinny person but I know that I need to lose at least 60 more pounds!! my husband says I should be grateful for what I have lost but darn it I didn't go this far to stop here but the problem is it STOPPED!!!! I understand that there are times that you will Platau but mine has lasted two months now losing only 9 stinkin pounds. I started solids a little late because of having Strictures and having to be dilated three times but I noticed that when I started eating solid foods my hunger started and I always feel hungry again an hour after a meal. I can only eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup of solids. I mentioned this to my doctor and that was hysterically crying and he says to me well that means your metabolism is working again that's a good thing and then got up and walked out!!! Wtf???? This is my life. This is my dream. I am doing everything by the book I am drinking my Protein I am actually drinking the whey protein bullet (with approval) which is nice because it's only 3 1/2 ounces to suck down to get your protein and I don't know what else to do. I cannot exercise because of my back injury. I'm going to be having surgery again rods and screws put in my back and I just don't know what else to do. I've kept logs, drink my liquids, snack on a little fruit or fat free sugar free yogurt. UGH CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME ADVICE ON HOW TO KICKSTART MY WEIGHTLOSS AGAIN????? I don't want to be skinny because I love curves. I'm not being selfish! Thanks in advance for your input. Tina -
"Change Your Relationship With Food" ..but how!?!
Bobby46 replied to MrsMurky721's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're right...you have to eat to live. Changing your relationship with food just means to not "use" it. I used "comfort" foods for that purpose...comfort. I would rush to food every time I felt sad or overwhelmed....now I sit down and breath and find something else to do. It is a process. Of course I whined at first because I didn't have my go-to for comfort. But now I realize it was just a crutch. I take walks now or I do something with my hands...like crochet. Or I read or clean or call a friend. You have to change your food choices as part of that "relationship with food" thing. You have to choose healthy foods first and always. Period. You need healthy food to live....you don't need processed foods and Cookies. I actually crave vegetables now. I crave yogurt and fruit. Amazing! I have a house full of cookies and candy right now for Christmas....even have brownies!....my favorite!!!! But I can easily say no to them. My food tastes have changed. I'm stronger now. You will get there. It will take time, but it will come. -
I remember eating a lot of Greek yogurt and hummus. And refried beans.

Yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken, fish, shrimp, avocado, deli meat, cheese, eggs, and soups. Beef was on the list however, unless its cooked for a long time like in a stew, I cannot get it chewed to the consistency that is required. So I stay away from beef. Chicken and tuna are my go to. Just remember chew, chew, chew.

Hi, I wasn't either. Luckily I'm one of those crazy people that prepares for emergencies and one of my preps is this: https://smile.amazon.com/SurvivAMINO-Emergency-Substitute-Vitality-Sciences/dp/B00MAG75FU/ref=sr_1_10_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492109292&sr=8-10&keywords=protein+tablets those shakes are disgusting! I am not taking 15 tabs (90 g of protein) I'm taking 9 a day instead. I don't need 90 g of protein!! Plus I bought these: http://www.oikosyogurt.com/products/yogurt-drink/strawberry they are amazing and taste so delicious and have 10g protein!!!! I will start those when I feel like "eating" -
First off everone is different and you can't compare what one person has lost to another. If you are losing and things are going well - then things are working for you. That being said... I am 90 Days out from surgery. I have lost an average of just over 4 lbs per week since surgery - some weeks more some weeks less. That's about 57 lbs since surgery and another 20 lbs lost pre-op from the pre-op diet for a total of 77 lbs. I've not been in the gym at all but have been more active (swimming, walking, kayaking, etc). As far as intake, my regular day is Greek yogurt, egg substitute or Protein shake for Breakfast, small protein rich lunch (Soup and sashimi, burger - no bun, yogurt, etc) , small protein rich diner (chicken, pork, turkey, beef - all w/ veg) and usually a small snack (yogurt, fat free/sugar free pudding) . Chili has been good with Beans and made with turkey. Not many carbs if I can help it. I have not been perfect - I've had some pizza and a beer or two and I've indulged a few times when going out to dinner. Total daily calories usually add up to about 900-1100 on a normal day.

Can you share a typical day of eating (once normal eating resumes after surgery)
AvaFern replied to Mary Jane T's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 18 months out and don't tend to always follow the Protein first rules, but I'm maintaining beneath my goal weight and still losing, so it seems to have worked out. My days tend to vary, but they usually go something along the lines of this: Breakfast - 1/3 cup Cascadian Farms Fruit and Nut Granola (I only eat this kind- no reason I just like it best) Snack (after morning workout) -Protein shake (almond milk, frozen Greek yogurt, PB2, & protein powder) lunch - 1/2 Hillshire Farms Little Plate (it has salami, cheese, and a hard cracker- like an adult lunchable) Snack - turkey and cheddar cheese roll-up or cottage cheese or 1/2 a Protein Bar or handful of granola dinner - other half of the Hilshire Farms Little Plate Snack -Veggie crisps This day works out to 916 calories (with turkey as the second snack), 92 carbs, 40 fat grams, 53g protein, 2,370 mg sodium, and 32g sugar. I ate exactly that the other day so MyFitnessPal gives me the full breakdown. The fat grams are a little higher than I like because of the cheese, and the veggie crisps have no great nutritional value, but I like them. On some days I'll eat more than that because I'm hungry or I've worked out a lot. I routinely eat a grilled chicken sandwich from a fast food place, the other day I had an entire chicken salad from Chik Fil A over the course of two meals, and I add things like hummus, watermelon, cantaloupe, crackers, chili, marinara sauce with zuchinni noodles, etc. For the most part I eat whatever I want to, just in very small servings. Also, my "whatever I want to" is dictated by my sleeve which hates anything that has fat, sugar, or has been near butter or a fryer. Almost all sweets and junk food make me instantly sick, so while I wouldn't mind eating a piece of cake, one or two bites is about all my stomach will tolerate so I just tend to not go for things like that anymore. Also, there are days where I may hit 1800 calories, so don't think you'll be stuck eating 1000 calories for the rest of your life. I'm hungrier when I workout more and when I know I'm going to blow my calorie goal for the day I just make sure I do it in protein based food instead of junk. Once you've hit the maintenance stage, you can eat anything your stomach will tolerate. I weigh myself everyday and I record everything I eat or drink in MyFitnessPal, so I keep myself accountable and then if I happen to want to have a cocktail or some cake or something else bad for me, I eat a few bites, I enjoy it, I put it into MyFitnessPal, and then I go back to eating my regular food afterwards. The nice thing about the sleeve is that it has taught me moderation- something I could never manage before surgery. -
Can you share a typical day of eating (once normal eating resumes after surgery)
glitter eyes replied to Mary Jane T's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am eleven months post op so I can eat more than a recent post op. Here is an example of one of my days: Breakfast: two scrambled eggs Lunch: grilled chicken (one leg and a thigh) Dinner: grilled salmon, steamed green Beans Snacks: one piece of string cheese, Greek yogurt, turkey Jerky Of course my days vary. Sometimes I will add a Protein drink a few days a week. I also am only a few pounds from goal so I do have "cheat" days. Yesterday was one of them. I had a chocolate bar, and two sugar Cookies. Will be back on my plan today. I feel I can almost eat close to what is considered "normal". -
Meal / food help please!
jhclikesshopping@gmail.com replied to Wyswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
at the beginning - tuna with a small amount of yogurt worked well for me (plus lots of protein). I added some herbs like Dill too. Other go to "real food" for me was rolled up sliced turkey (or any sandwich meat) with string cheese. This went down well too. Finally - try yogurt with soft fruit like kiwi or melon. If you use Fage it has the highest Protein. good luck ! -

Try the oikos yogurts. They are so delicious!!! 10 G protein each. I have also seen the light regarding hunger. It's funny, I used to say, but I don't eat that much!! How am I fat?? I blamed my lupus meds and diabetes. Now I am remembering every time, I just casually walked past the pantry and stuffed an Oreo in my mouth. Or finished off the kids fried chicken so it wasn't wasted food. Or all the times I had "just a few bites" of the cake on the counter while I cleaned the kitchen. YES, I did eat that much!! I just did it without noticing. -

Happy Anniversary everyone!!! I have a strange urge to play Barry Manilowe's "Looks like we made it" , LOL!! All the pain is gone except by my liver when I try to bend all the way down. I am down 25 pounds. But, the loss is starting to slow i can drink freely. I will not touch shakes, they are nasty. I am drinking Oikos Triple something... it's a tiny little yogurt drink with 100 calories and 10 G protein. I am no where near ready for actual food. i have discovered the joy of sugar free popsicle brand fudge pops. Omg good!!! -

Please forgive me for over stepping. But, I disagree. I don't think you should ask your regular Dr for nutrition advice for at least 6 months. They have no clue usually. You shouldn't be "getting any calories you can" you need ONLY very high protein foods. Instead of grits make a scrambled egg and put it in your nutri bullet of whatever blender you have. Or some Daisy cottage cheese. 1/2 cups has 10 or 12 grams of protein. The oikos yogurt drinks I listed before are tiny but full of protein. Your body is burning up all your fat for fuel. You don't need carbs, just protein and water. Calories right now are not needed really. You can do it. You are just going through an emotional and physical shock and it's hard to adjust, but you WILL. And you are going to be gorgeous. -

My sleeve loves milk, cheese, eggs, chicken, turkey, tuna, salmon, ham lunch meat (deli sliced), greek yogurt. My sleeve hates cooked ham (like you have at Christmas), anything sweet, and the smell of protein shakes. My sleeve has love/hate relationship with beef of any kind - sometimes it's ok, sometimes it's not. -
No not really, I haven't noticed any change in my appetite at all in portion or selection. I ate as a banster as I had my fill 2 weeks ago and still am doing so as of today just so to keep me mindful of it but to answer your question, no no difference. I still am going about 4 and half hrs in between meals and a late night snack of string cheese or greek yogurt if I'm up at night.

Full liquids with protein?
txsmile100 replied to bethmixon826's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh okay I'm sorry I misunderstood, I got it now. Well, like bakawaka stated about the Protein, that is the key to losing the weight! If you cannot drink more than one Protein shake, then get some unflavored protein powder and add it in to yogurt and soups! If you aren't getting enough protein, that would explain why you can't get a momentum going. Yeah I'm with you, let's be online buddies! I don't have anyone in real life that has been through this surgery either. There are definitely a lot of questions and emotions that we encounter that only those of us who have gone through it can fully understand! I'm glad we found this app, too. It's been extremely helpful. Does your surgeon offer any support groups? That might help for in person if you needed it. -
I'm 14 days out and on purée. I agree getting my nutrition from food alone is just not possible. I still am having 2 Protein shakes a day giving me 40 grams of protein strait out of the bat. The foods that have worked best for me are Greek yogurt, tomato Soup, and puréed chili. But with those I only get between 50 to 100 calories per meal. My favorite Protein Shakes a unjury and chike. I found the. Both on amazon. I really look forward to them. Best of luck!
