Sleeved in 8/2012, delivered baby 5/2/14... Help!
SherB replied to peytonsmommy's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Congratulations on your new baby girl! Her well being is number one right now. Maybe look up how many calories you should be consuming to keep your weight at 158. I would use that as a base point to keep your baby healthy. They say you need a few more calories, I think 300 for the baby so if you stay at what it says for 158 you should not gain and may even lose a little bit. Take your daughter for walks and just enjoy her. -
Remember the band is just a tool so it's not a magic bullet. It's not going to lose the weight for you so delaying it by a couple of days isn't really doing you any harm. In fact, you will probably lose more weight on your pre-op diet than you will post-op and before your first fill which can be between 4-6 weeks depending on your doctor. The more you lose before the surgery, the better off you are so look at this as an opportunity to lose a bit more before your surgery.

I'm wondering if anyone else out there is a caregiver for an elderly person. I have been taking care of my 86 year old mother for over 5 years and it's really stressful. I gained about 30 pounds during this time so the 35 pounds I've lost have put me back about where I was before I began taking care of Mother. She has been in the hospital 4 times in the last 6 weeks and in the nursing home for about 2-3 weeks. Even this is stressful since I have to visit often and try to make sure she's happy. She isn't. I don't exercise much because I'm simply pooped. I work and take care of mother and the 7 animals and I poop out. I will be 60 years old next year and I'm tired. I would appreciate hearing from any caregivers out there. Having the band and being a caregiver is quite a lot of responsibility and sometimes I feel overwhelmed. I am upset because I haven't lost any weight in several months. My friend from Ohio, whose husband is about to die, has the same problem. He needs an intestinal transplant but won't do it. We have the suspicion that our caregiving may be interfering with our weight loss and I'd like to hear if anyone else out there has this problem. We are both in our 50s and age makes a difference I guess. But I would appreciate some happy advice. I often recommend the eldercareforum so I think there are some other caregivers out there. I'd like to hear about their weight loss. Thanks.:cry

Bitter, it strikes me from reading your posts about your life with your mother that you are exhausted and that your emotions concerning your present life and your mother are complicated. This only makes sense; you are between a rock and a hard place and your sib is not pulling his weight, is he? Perhaps some talk therapy might be indicated. You would be able to sort through your feelings, maybe figure out some new approaches to your relationship with your mum, and perhaps learn some distancing or relaxation techniques.... Who knows? It might be worth a shot. (I mention this because my own family life has been a difficult one. I have been seeing a psychologist for some years now and this has been most useful. It really saved my sanity when my mum and my kid brother suddenly died not so very long ago.)

Bolingbrook. 12-14 years ago I was engaged to a woman who wore a size 12 pant. Boy was she pissed when I was 310-320 pounds and I could fit in those 12's better than her! I carry most of my weight in my torso. -
I had my surgery last Wednesday. I felt kind of rough the first day home, but now feel really good. Very little pain....more feels like there is a weight on my stomach. I've been careful about what I eat and have done some walking. I've only lost 4 pounds since surgery. I was expecting more. Is this normal? I'm impatiently waiting to see results.

I also am reminded as I read posts here that we all have different relationships with food. I have struggled with disordered eating all my life and watched my mom struggle with her weight and food too. My cousin did this surgery 7 years ago and said she never thinks about food and has to remind herself to eat. She has maintained most of her weightloss. I was hoping that would be the case for me but I am almost a month out and I can see that is not the journey I am on sadly. But I am determined to get to a healthy weight and to have a healthy relationship with food. Anyway this is just me rambling.

How Much Losing A Week?
mknmore replied to wishfulaimee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on September 19 and have lost 25... The doc says its normal to lose a lot the first week (15 lbs) and then the next couple of weeks slow down ( 4 lbs the 2nd wk) ( 0 the 3rd wk). I was told that if u r not pooping regularly to try milk of magnesia to help as when u r not going ur body is holding on to food it shouldn't which the doc stated is normal after any weight lose surgery. He also said to make sure u r getting all ur Protein and taking all of the Vitamins as those r easy to neglect and will keep u from losing weight. Hope this helps. -
I had my surgery 2.5 yrs ago. My weight loss is stalled and during quarantine I’ve gone up, not much but enough to have me upset. Help!

Surprisingly on this clear liquid diet (exception of Protein Drinks) my 2 Premier Protein's a day are making me not hungry. I'm also getting way over 64 oz of liquids a day as well. I'm not even close to meeting enough calories but I am losing water weight and the scale is showing. As long as I am taking all of my vitamins and getting enough protein and water in I'm okay with the lower calories. It's going to be the same way after surgery. No matter how hard we try we're not really going to be able to come even close to our calories for the day at least in the beginning. As long as I'm on track with my vitamin/nutrient levels, not dehydrated, and keeping my muscle mass, while exercising daily. I call it a win!!! -
Nice - Calories really don't change my weight loss to much per week, although i do not weigh myself much at most once a week. Some people set a goal of say 900 calories per day and get it down to they are exact every day, Me Im to dang lazy to be recording calories all the time, I run low on calories about 600 a day and will adjust the excercise to make me feel better. However i have found that not much changes on a weekly basis in terms of weight loss, I hit between 3.5 and 4.5 just about every week.

I'm 8 weeks post op. I started with 5 pound weights around 5 weeks I think, and now I'm at 10 pound weights. I also used weight machines one night, not thinking about the weight limit (my doctor didn't tell me how long I had to weight, just said avoid heavy lifting for a few weeks). So I've done well over 10 pounds on my arms and legs, but that was just one short period of time. Definitely ask your surgeon/doctor if you can.

Is there anybody out there that had surgery 6/14/16
Fredjuni replied to Steph6981's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery on 7/20/2015. I was a size 20 in pants and now I am a size 5 to 6. Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App That is awesome!! My clothes are getting to big for me. I'm down from a 4x to a 2x in tops. I wear about a 22 in pants. I was a 28. You can message me if you want. Anybody can. Well have a good day. Talk to you later Sent from my Z959 using the BariatricPal App That is really good. You will continue to loose a lot of weight. One advise that I will give you is to not go crazy buying new clothes. Because sometimes is a waste of money. I used to buy a outfit and only used it once. And my husband use to get so mad. Lol. And yes you could message me if you like. Have a nice one! ❤ Fredjuni❤ -
I'm anxiously waiting for insurance approval. My primary insurance is Medicare, BCBS is my secondary (I think that's how it works). I did the 6 months of diet consults, my BMI is 42, and I have severe sleep apnea. I completed the checklist from my surgeon's office; did my psych eval, nutritionist visit, breathing test, and all. I have read about people getting denied by insurance and it has me very worried. I've started stress eating because of it. I don't know the exact insurance requirements because I think it gets approved by BCBS, but BCBS has different requirements for people with Medicare and I cannot find that information online. I have called my insurances many times about the requirements without any clear answers. I worry that I'm missing something, like 5 years of weight history or something that would keep me from getting the surgery. Right now, I feel like I did right before I left home to go to college, it seemed like it would be so great there and I had worried that the day would somehow never come. *breathes deep*

Feb 25 Surgery Date-Now I want to Cancel!
joatsaint replied to yologirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know where you're coming from. I backed out of my 1st attempt to start this treck, but a month later I did it. The turning point for me was when I realized that my life wasn't going to get any better - I hated going out anywhere, I was always hurting somewhere, and I could onlys see myself getting fatter and more miserable. I realized that after 30 plus years of trying to do it on my own, I couldn't lose weight without help. The next month I was back on track and was sleeved in about 4 weeks. Hang in there, it is worth it. -
It can be tough especially because we don't see ourselves as skinny for a long time if ever. I just giggle and say thanks when people say I'm a skinny b***h...but sometimes it makes me a little blue especially when I feel there is anger behind the comment. Not much you can do just remember it's their issue. Honestly losing weight has brought up some issues with family members who are annoyed with me losing weight but I just remember I don't have to please them....this is my life and they have the power to make their own decisions.

I have buckled down! Watched everyday what goes in my mouth (both food & liquid) written down not only what I have eaten but the calories, fat content etc. keeping my calories at 1750 or lower. I was going to the gym getting back to the routine that I was in prior to my daughter leaving for college and my father suddenly passing away. In about 2 weeks I was down 7 pounds, to say totally over the moon was an understatement. Now today I weigh and I gained 4.6 pounds in 7 days!!! Why the sudden weight gain in the short amount of time? What do I do? I had gastric bypass 5 years ago, my heaviest was 265, my lowest was 128. My dr.'s goal weight for me was 175, I eventually ended up at 145 for a good long while. 2 years ago my dr said that he would like to see me at 160-166. I know I shouldn't complain at all since I am weighing 163.4 but when you see the scale go down after going up for so very long it's very discouraging, almost heartbreaking. This is a good story because I find myself asking why did I get banded. I've only lost a little weight I have my third fill Friday I was banded May 10th this is a very slow process. I'm on and off the wagon every other day this is harder then I thought.

Hi All, I just have to say that I love my lapband. at first i was discouraged because i was not losing fast, but now i think i have finally hit my green zone! I had been disappointed after a few fills and stopped going in. I had stalled out as a result. The last fill was painful and they couldn't find my port, but eventually did. so i wasn't too keen on doing that again. i guess something in my mind thought i should be able to succeed without fully utilizing the tool, but i am back "on the wagon" and went in for a fill. It took a few tries, but they found my port and filled it .5cc more (totall 3.5ccs). I must have been just about to hit the green zone because now I feel like i am losing faster. and it feels great! It is a huge accomplishment for me to finally be under 200lbs. At my heaviest i was 252-254, surgery weight 248 and now i am 198! Can you believe it! There is a 1 at the beginning of my weight, not a 2, a 1! yay! I still have a lot to lose, but i am on my way! So stick with it and don't miss your fill appts. and it will work for you too! My surgery date was 9-5-12 today is 7-15-13

Why am I gaining weight?!?!
emme.vee replied to aimeebatson1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
For your weight, you should be drinking AT LEAST 10 8 ounce cups of Water a day, more if you're working out. Also many factors can contribute to this, are you sleeping enough? Are you starting your period this week? Are you going thru peri menopause or menopause? Are you stressed out? How much sodium are you consuming? Are you weighing yourself in the same place every time? Are you weighing yourself around the same time every day? Have you pooped? How often are you pooping? Have you measured yourself instead of just weighing in? Are you possibly gaining muscle? All these are small little parts of a puzzle that make up our weight fluctuations. I'm sorry you're frustrated. Maybe hide the scale from yourself for a few days? I'm sorry to hear about your father. My condolences. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Why am I gaining weight?!?!
James Marusek replied to aimeebatson1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Weight can fluctuate from one day to another. It also depends on when you weigh yourself. I generally weigh myself first thing in the morning butt naked and that gives me some consistency. But when I am dressed with my shoes, leather belt, wallet, etc. that can easily add 5 extra pounds to my weight. Here is my approach to the "Maintenance" phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf -

Hello. I know there are other threads discussing this topic, but of all that I have read, none apply to my specific concerns. I have 5 children, three of whom are teenage girls. I am considering not telling them for multiple reasons. First, I don't plan on telling family or friends such as parents and grandparents. To tell them and not expect them to "accidentally" bring it up in front of family members could put them (and me) in an awkward position. Then, the most important concern, is body image. I know all the rules, I even follow many of them. I have taught them to understand that they eat to fuel their bodies and that the goal is to be healthy, not seek to obtain the media's idea of "perfect". Because of my own struggles with weight, this has always been of foremost importance to me. I worry about the message I will be sending to my impressionable 17, 16, and 14 year old girls. They do not understand the struggle, they are healthy and young and hopefully have many of the tools they will need to live the rest of their lives that way (my goal anyway). I have a different perspective and story. Of course hiding anything from teenagers is another task all together. So my question is, what are your thoughts on not telling teenage daughters?
