Finally i can buy clothes again

Congratulations! It is so exciting to have to buy clothes (although gets costly, haha) I was wearing clothes until it was impossible, shirts so big they were falling off my shoulders. Constantly pulling up my paints or even holding them up while I walked. HAHA! Dropping weight so quickly, I would have been buying clothes every month. It got annoying and I started buying or wearing clothes a smidge tighter or more fitting than I am comfortable in. Like I feel like some of my shirts are a little more snug than preferred and people can see my blobby saggy skin. HAHA BUT! I will say, I have noticed that since I started wearing well fitting clothes EVERYONE NOTICES the huge change. I went out this weekend and wore a shirt that was (IMO) a bit too fitting. I wasn't totally comfortable in it. But, I knew I would be standing/walking most of the time so my stomach/skin wouldn't be squished out making it tighter (if that makes sense)... Anyway... friends posted pics they took on FB and when I saw myself i was like WHOA LOOK AT ME!!!! I had multiple people comment on the pics about how great I looked, people even texted me congratulating me and sending me inspiring messages! Even after loosing almost 140 lbs I just recently could see it in other people pictures, like if I took a selfy I could see it but when other people took full body pics I still see the same ol fat girl. Then I went out with my bestie for sobriety celebration and when I saw the pics I was like woo look at me getting skinny. haha Although, I still see the fat girl a lot! This weekend's pictures are when I REALLY saw it. Fitted clothes, jaw line.. who is this woman! Congratulations to ALL OF US! We put in the work!
  2. Hello. Really everyone is different. Without knowing all of your details it is hard to say. You could talk it over with your Dietician or Nutritionist? They could go over your diet with you, and see if they find something that could be slowing things down. Be open and honest, it will only help you. I eat carbs (minimal because of how much I can eat), my team and Nutritionist are very "balanced diet" friendly. But again, everyone is different. Some people's body hate carbs and other are fine with eating them. Like you mentioned, if you have less to loose than you will loose slower. As well as when people starting out bigger get closer to a "normal" weight they slow down substantially. I have a friend who has been trying to loose her last 20 lbs for months now. Just have to keep pushing. Good luck, loss is still loss no matter how fast or slow you think it is going!
  3. Hi everyone, I'm kinda new in here, don't know how it works but I need to share my experience because I don't know where I stand I've done the gastric sleeve at the begining of January with a starting weight of 219 lbs (99,5 kg). I'ts been 8 months since, and I'm now at 187 lbs (85kg). Am I paranoid or is it very very slow ? Only lost 33 lbs (15kg) I've got PCOS and I'm aware that having hormonal imbalances may affect my weight loss and my starting weight was maybe low compared to someone else but I am starting to feel worried about the surgery. Maybe it did not work out well for me ? Is it normal ? My doctor said I should be at 149 at the end. Is anyone else is in my situation or know someone in my condition ? I eat well, eat my veggies and protein first and I don't have a sweet tooth anymore (rarely rarely eat between meals). I know that my carb intake is still important but I mean I don't eat THAT much. I always eat it at the end of the meal, knowing that I can never finish my plate. Good water intake too. Thank you for any testimony and reassurance
  4. I come from a family of skinny people. The women are naturally under 115 lbs . Most have hypertension, a few have sleep apnea and a couple have diabetes. Sometimes it isn't due to weight but body composition, genetics, diet (e.g. too much alcohol or salt) or unmanageable stress. I honestly can't see a surgeon doing RNY to someone who has a BMI of 30 and is active as you say. I wouldn't recommend it but to your question, I know a few who had a BMI of 30 and went to Mexico to get the sleeve (not RNY).
  5. I was 215 and had sleep apnea and high cholesterol with back pain and borderline diabetes you will get approved if you have tried everything and could not get weight down and you should get approved based on your weight and diabetes alone, all the things you mentioned is what I had and I was approved through Medicare

    Feeling down….

The beginning is the hardest because you're still recovering from surgery, still getting used to the huge changes to your lifestyle, but haven't seen all the benefits of the weight loss yet. It does get easier, as you progress through the post-op stages and lose weight. You will start to feel "normal" again, maybe a new and different normal, and this weird and difficult post-op period will eventually be a blur in your memory. Hang in there!

Finally i can buy clothes again

Great job! Yeah I love wearing stuff that used to not fit and now it fits or is even big on me. I've gone through all my clothes that I had when I was smaller and even stuff I wore after my first surgery (I was sleeved in 2016, lost a lot and then gained back and had revision in 2021), now I need even smaller stuff. Originally I was a 2XL shirt and those were starting to get tight, now I'm a Medium (!!) and down about 10 pants sizes as well. I've been getting my stuff at the thrift store because I don't know if I'll outgrow them (undergrow?) and they'll end up being too big. Once I reach my final weight and size I'll do a shopping spree.

    Feeling down….

Almost through my 4th week post op…. 3 weeks with no real weight movement. I know I’m a bit dehydrated - I’m assuming that’s why I have crushing fatigue. But not enough so that fluids are warranted apparently I’ve worked on increasing my calories and protein. It’s hit or miss but I am getting a decent amount, but my weight isn’t moving at all. When I say the fatigue is crushing - I mean any exertion of effort wipes me out. I see my pcp tomorrow - but I’m not sure he will have any suggestions the surgeon and nutritionist haven’t already offered. I am measuring and weighing every bite and I am only eating what I’m suppose to. I don’t feel well enough to exercise so I don’t imagine I will have much progress until that happens. I feel stuck/trapped right now. I know it will pass… I’m sure things will get better. It’s just really hard when I can’t even stand at the sink to wash dishes. My family is being very supportive and helping (kids and husband) but that almost makes me feel worse. They are doing things I should be. I just want to feel better. I’m trying to focus on the positives, I’ve lost weight, my body’s changing, my clothes are getting bigger…. I’m wearing things I couldn’t before. My Kees still hurt, but less. My liver is improving. My health is going in the right direction. Tuesday is 5 weeks. I don’t regret the surgery at all, I’m just disappointed in me and my lack of progress to this point. Sorry I just needed to vent my frustration. Thanks so much for listening.
  10. if you're swollen, that likely means you're retaining water. Might explain the weight issue. like others have said, it could also be the infamous "three-week stall" (that most of us experience) a little early - or you could still have some of the IV fluids in you that were given to you in the hospital. Some people leave the hospital up to 10 lbs heavier than when they went in!
  11. Stalls suck, and they are normal, and they will happen a lot. I've had 3 so far. Each time, I gain 2-3 pounds and the stall seems to last a week longer each time. I just got out of my 3rd and I immediately lost 5 pounds. Now the scale is creeping along, which I've found is normal for my body right out of a stall. It'll pick up again. Just make sure you're getting in your fluids and protein. Stick to the plan exactly, and look for the non scale victories. Mine are: I can fit in a booth now with room to spare between my stomach and the table, I dropped a full clothing size and ring size, and now the ones I'm in are starting to get big, my double chin is gone. When you aren't seeing the scale do what you want, look for other things to confirm for you the surgery is doing its job.
  12. I so hear you!...im in the exact same phase as you are. We both are backsliding due to old problems and just plain old life getting in the way. First of all....give yourself a break. I literally weighed myself this evening after feeling like i was back up to my old weight. But of course that is all in my head...I was at my maintenence weight and doing just fine. We forget that we need to trust the surgery as well. That said...it's always good to do a mind and body reset. I was thinking about treating myself just like i did after about 3 months after my surgery where i was cautious about everything. Try looking new angles... Personally, i think im having problems with balancing my exercise with my calories. In other words, im eating too much because my mind thinks i need to eat more after working out so much. So...that needs to get worked on as well... That said...these forums are gold! ...i havent been here a while myself, but i know that the ppl and information here is THE best in the world!
  13. Coming up on 4 yrs post op and i have learned that carbs are not the devil lol. Over the past 2 years I have slowly re-incorporated them into my diet to the point that i dont even actively avoid them anymore. I eat all kinds of them to the point of “toleration”…which i guess luckily, isnt very much for me. And surprise surprise I am maintaining my weight just fine (with the added bonus of not looking so gaunt in my face…but do look less defined in my bod…but i’ve accepted that…small price to pay to enjoy a maki roll once in a while!)
  14. They definitely are weird!! It’s so frustrating because I lost more weight on my 2 week liquid diet than I have since surgery… My surgeon says GB supposedly loses more weight, so I was expecting something by now. I am still swollen, so that may not help either. I just have this fear like omg did I do this for nothing 😳
  15. I'm no help with the elevated pulse, but I hope you find out what's up soon!! With the weight thing though, I'm feeling those feelings. I was sleeved Sept 6th, I lost 13lbs the first week, which was probably all water weight, because that first week I was barely getting anything down. I told myself I'd only weigh myself once a week, Tuesdays, but I broke yesterday morning and checked, and I gained a pound. I'm still on the liquid diet so that's wild, but I also figure my body is probably scrambling trying to hold on to what I can give it. I'm also only peeing like 3 times a day, which seems like so little considering how much liquid is going into me, and since that pee is light colored and not dehydrated, I'm taking it as an indication that my body is holding on to it. Bodies are weird.
  16. Stay off the scale for now. It will drive you nuts. You will hit stalls along your journey. I hit my first stall at 2 weeks post op. I didnt loose weight for about 2 weeks or so. you probably hit yours just a tad early which happens. Keep with the program and the weight will come off. I try to weigh myself every 2 weeks to 1 month. as for the pulse i am not sure there. I had high blood pressure before surgery and after surgery now i have low blood pressure. Where normally i would be in the 130-145 and now i am at 100 or so. (Blood pressure cuff) and my Beats per minute were in the 80-90's and now after surgery its low at around 50-60
  17. Hello all. I am in the process if trying to get approved for RNY. The more I read the more I think my husband should consider GB as well. His BMI is only slightly over 30 but he had apnea, diabetes, and Hypertension. He exercises a ton and although his diet is far from perfect, I would say it's much better than the standard American diet. We would it his diabetes and HTN would resolve however the bug question is.....is that likely to happen if he has a strong family history of both conditions on both sides of his family? The studies I've seen made it unclear if remission is possible and hinted that perhaps diabetes would return in few years.
  18. I need revision too. While reviewing the research it appears the average weight loss after revision is around "30 to 60" pounds in a recent study. However, I think there is hope. Beyond the numbers really is our food choices. You get to decide how much weight you will lose. For me, it's choices or excuses. Sent from my SM-G996U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    August surgery buddies!

Good morning from slightly overcast San Diego (man I'm going to miss this city as I leave my home of 25 years a week from tomorrow morning). My 1-month surgery-versary is in a few days. There was a week when I was gaining weight (yes, even following guidelines)--probably from water retention, but it's coming off again now, and I'm less puffy having discontinued one of my two BP meds at my doctor's request. I'm down 31 pounds since the liver-shrinking diet (2 weeks before surgery). NSVs: 1. Yesterday, I went to Target with my daughter. It was the first time in ages that my back wasn't killing me, and I didn't have to stop and rest my hand against walls to relieve the back pressure. 2. I can fit behind the wheel easier... even when my thin 17-year-old daughter forgets to put the steering wheel back up when she's done borrowing the car. 3. I've been able to stand for longer than 3 minutes without pain, which helps me do more packing (soooo much packing... the movers arrive this coming Friday).
  20. I got my gastric bypass on September 7th 2022, and I’m not really losing weight yet… Is this normal? You would think the weight would be coming off being that I’m only on a full liquid diet, and following it exactly how they advise. Also has anyone else had an issue with elevated pulse? I had tachycardia before my gastric bypass, but was still cleared for surgery, however at the office last week my pulse was 167 which is way higher than it typically is. Also on lovenox injections. Super dizzy whenever I get up to walk around, has anyone else had this issue? I do have an appointment with my cardiologist on the 26th.
  21. I am having surgery on the 30th, VSG. I got a lot of questions but luckily for me, this forum helped a lot so far. I have a list of questions for the surgeon for the pre-op visit since I haven't been able to ask many questions in any of the 4-5 appts so far this year. I was only prescribed for 2 days of liquid diet even tho I have some abnormal liver test results. I'm afraid because I had GERD my whole life but I'm having the sleeve. Maybe the doctor thinks the weight loss will help with it (which has happened before with previous diets).

    For the ladies

All that excess oestrogen stored in your fat cells is released into your blood stream as you lose weight. Longer/shorter, heavier/lighter, more/less frequent cycles, more or fewer PMT symptoms can happen. For about a year all my menopausal symptoms disappeared … they all came back though unfortunately. You can also become more fertile so be careful. Many surgeons recommend doubling down on contraceptives while you are losing.
  23. Admittedly, I haven’t read through the whole post but got angry and hit reply.  I also had a fusion. A 4 level cervical fusion plus cervical dystonia that has now advanced to the front of my neck and chin. Both my PCP and movement disorder neurologists were more than happily to sign off. They both said weight loss (specifically breasts not being so heavy & drawing my shoulders downward) could possibly help within symptom control. These puppies weigh me woman down! LOL ugh.  I just had my revision sleeve to bypass literally just 5 DAYS ago and it couldn’t have went better. They do use the surgical robot though for these procedures. That’s the coolest thing ever.  Also, to me, it sounds like your current PCP is a little lazy on top of it all. Is he an older doc? Like old school I mean?  Seems Ike he’s asking you to do HIS homework work just so he can copy and paste what parts he would like to send to the insurance company. Tell him you will if he pays YOU for that letter.
  24. Of course that’s a decision only you can make but I wouldn’t worry about your weight getting worse. If you do wait for insurance it doesn’t mean you can’t start making a lot of changes now that will help you lose a good deal of weight while you are waiting. I have seen people on here lose big chunks before their surgery. I would start working with a nutritionist that your team recommends NOW and Start working on the other requirements. If the psychiatrist finds any disordered eating patterns you will want time to work on those and be in such a better place post op if you have done so before your surgery.
  25. If you didn’t have an insurance option I would 100% say go pay for it! A year out now and I only wish I did this sooner. It is worth its weight in GOLD. That being said, I did wait for my surgery (& gained a few LBs) so insurance would cover it, mostly because I was terrified of the bills in the event there was a complication. I think it also depends on your timing in life, if there is something pushing you to get it now, that may be another factor in the pay column- I was moving cross country and couldn’t have waited another year. I think you will be happy in the long run either way & either way you will have this for the rest of your life. Good luck!!
