  1. Drink Water, often! I was admitted initially for dehydration. I was drinking enough, even though I knew I was getting what I was supposed to. Then we figured out it was my blood pressure medication Lisinipril. The water was absorbed differently. It doesn't happen to every one. Anyhow it turns out my kidneys were affected and there was no blood flow getting to my kidneys, my kidneys became to get really sluggish. They Bolis (two IV bags) me twice in a half an hour. After the first my output was only 30cc, and the second 17cc. They then put an emergency consult in for a nephrologist, and were considering putting me on an emergency dialysis. Thank the high heavens, after begging to walk, I was able to get things moving again. I drink more water now then I have to, and do not take the lisinipril any more. So three hospital visits in a month. Sucks! Not to mention all the fluids they gave me, made me gain some weight back. I was ticked off. The fluids are starting to flow away and am starting to lose again, but this has been outrageous. All because of a little pill. I still have to take blood pressure meds because my blood pressure is not under control still. I don't take as much as I did, which is good. I hopefully don't have to take them in the future, they just want to continue them until they think it is controlled. MY PSA for the day! LOL Drink your fluids! If something feels wrong, go to the hospital or call your surgeon. Thank you!
  2. I had my pre-op pap come back and they told me there wasn't enough cells...and I have to wait 3-4 months to get it redone....has this happen to anyone? This is literally the last thing I needed before I got my surgery date. I do see my dr for my follow up on pre op appts in two weeks...

    Anyone starting over?

My oh my - this is such a wonderful forum and folks are so open - the only advice I can offer which may be helpful - is that of my nutritionest. Consume liquids 45 mins before or after a meal Make the liquids something like crystal lite, or power aid zero (no calories) Eat ONLY 3 oz of lean Protein (actually 7 grams per oz) If your still hungry after eating the protein - eat up to 1.5 cups of cooked veggies per meal Substitute a Protein shake 2-4 times a week Shakes: http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=WP-1070 That simple advice took me down 35 lbs - don't eat till your full - eat the perscribed plan. I know its not easy, I am a comfort food eater, a grazer, and eat out of boredom. Fortunatly the surgery made me loose my appetite - I wish you the very best !
  4. Hello everyone.. I hope what I am writing is correct for this forum. Im Brand New and just spoke to my Doctor last week about having Lap Band surgery done.. She said sure did I want to start the process.. I didnt expect that quick of an answer from her... Yes I do want to start the process.. My only concern is that I am 60 years old.. I dont have any major medical problems except that my Chol has gone up in the last 6 months. I do take Blood Pressure meds.. But my blood pressure is perfect.. Is there anyone in my age bracket that can give me any information. I have never had any Surgery and Im a little scared. I sure would like to hear the good and bad about the Lap Band... I am also seeing that there may be different styles of this Lap Band, if that is the case can someone give me that info also.. I hope I have asked to much of anyone.. I still have some years left and would like to enjoy it with my Grand-kids.. If i dont do something soon I will not fit in a seat on the plane...lol... Can anyone help me out.. Thank you

I too, prefer Worldwide Protein shakes. Atkins was on my list from the dietician for a ready to drink, but it only has about 9 or 15g protein (I forget how much), and it is full of Vitamins, which is fine, but we are taking Vitamin supplements, so why drink more? Taste-wise WW shakes are better than Atkins. They are available at Trader Joe's (cheapest--$2.29 each for 35s and they have 21g version for $1.69), The Vitamin Shoppe (next cheapest--$2.79 but I bought a 12 pack for $27.99 which is about $2.33 each), and GNC (most expensive--$2.99 each). All three carry vanilla Cream and chocolate. The Vitamin Shoppe carries all the flavors (strawberry Cream, Cookies n' Cream, and banana Cream). I don't care for banana flavored stuff, but the Cookies n' Cream tastes like liquid Oreos, and the Strawberry is pretty good too. Calories 160-170, maybe 1g fat/0.5 sat fat, and 1g sugar, no added vitamins. It is a milk-based protein (in case you are lactose intolerant). I don't work for them (honest) but I have been drinking them since before surgery, and I still drink one just about every day. As for vitamins, Bariatricadvantage.com sells chewables and liquids just for surgery patients. I use Centrum Silver chewables (even though our dietician pooh-poohs them) and Twin Labs calcium citrate with Magnesium and D (after I started using I found it on the list of approved supplements for Brigham Womens Hospital Bariatric Program--someone here had a link and I clicked on it). Best price is online at vitacost.com, about $7.67 a bottle for 60 wafers (15 day supply). In stores it is anywhere from $13 to $18 for the same thing. There is a $4.99 s/h charge, for any size order, so I order 5 bottles on an auto ship plan for every 60 days. I am experimenting with the MVI, and right now can get down sizeable capsules so I take one with supplements for the eyes since mine are crap after 3 eye surgeries. If you have a lot of restriction chewables or liquids are better.
  7. I am stressing a little because I went on vacation for a week and ate everything that I used to eat prior to being sleeved in 1/11 and the bad part was I didn't get sick, it was good and now I have to truly start all over! These are the habits that kept me fat all my life! I didn't stuff myself but I did eat more than three times a day and I gained 2 lbs. Anybody been there and how hard was it to get refocused?

    Anyone else feel WEAKER?

I notice I'm also weaker. I do jiu jitsu, which really is supposed to be about technique more than strength or size and skill wise I've done it for years, but depending on my weight I am either pretty decent or pretty bad. When I was my heaviest I was really slow, so I wasn't any good. When I was around 155-160, I was fast, I was big (ish) and I was strong. Now that I'm 129 I get my butt handed to me every single round because I am far and away the smallest person in class and when someone can just sit on you and you can't lift them off, it tends to make it a little less fun. In terms of moving stuff, I think I've just gotten more creative. I had to lift a huge table a few weeks ago, so while I couldn't just hoist it up like before, I still did get it moved, I just used fulcroms and my brain insteead. When I really need to lift something I can, I just don't have the strength to lift as much for as long or as repetitively as I did when I was about 20-30 pounds bigger.

    Anyone else feel WEAKER?

Have you had your levels checked recently? I can't say I am stronger, but I'm most definitely not weaker. I got tired easily the first week or so post-op, but now I'm pretty much back to normal. In fact I may get taken off B12 at my next blood test. My levels were really high so I only have to take the sublingual twice a month now. If they remains high it will be taken off my list of supplements.
  10. Had it on the 15th of august. Doing pretty good Im almost all healed up already after 1 week and 3 days. I did 15 mins on stairmaster today too. I lost almost 13 pounds already because I am still on all liquid diet. Its not easy to eat like this but I only have a week and a few days left of liquids. First couple days after surgery were the toughest pain wise but the pain killers worked good.

Surgery Aug 16 First Night Home

All was the same for me, but once I got home I felt much better. I had difficulty getting my fluids down in the beginning. I found warm broth or decaf tea were much easier. It will keep getting better daily. Also, you may want to try to drink while standing to give the liquid fewer twists and turns while it goes through your swollen stomach. Someone said it helps. By week two, fluids were MUCH easier for me. I hope it gets easier for you quickly too!
  12. I am one week out from surgery and wondering what you've found to be the best exercises to tone arm and leg skin that I can do now. Thanks!
  13. This may seem like a strange question but my urine when I wiped is orange. I'm three weeks post op and I take celebrate multi and calcium they both are orange flavor could this be the case. When I told my doctor she kind of laughed because she have never heard of this one and she has heard a lot she explains. Has anyone came across this or has experienced this before. It's no smell or feeling whatsoever just the color on tissue when I wipe.
  14. Breakfast: 1 fried egg with 1 slice of cheese OR 1/2-3/4 of a Chick fil A chicken biscuit lunch Usually a Campbells Soup at Hand, because I am a teacher who must eat with the students so I have maybe 10 minutes eating time (not nearly enough to eat properly); about once a week I bring a small container of leftovers to heat and eat Snack: peanut butter/choc chip chewy bar Snack: Starbucks Venti non-fat Caramel Mocha (2 pumps of mocha, 4 pumps sf caramel, no whip) Dinner- whatever is cooked, just a cup or less of it. ex: pastalaya, spaghetti, pizza (1 thin slice) chili, hamburger steak, gumbo, etc. I consistently eat 1200-1500 calories per day; I journal using fitday.com to keep track of my calories. It keeps me honest.
  15. My doctor told me not too weigh my self for a couple of weeks due to the amount of fluids I received in the hospital would make me weigh close too 20 lbs heavier but I couldn't help myself and weighed anyways and I'm down 8 lbs and I'm just wondering if that means I'm not getting enough fluids? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    4 days post op

I also hard no bowel movements after surgery. I actually didn't go until 2 weeks after. I took MiraLAX to help with that. I wasn't uncomfortable from not going but thought it was weird not to go for that long.

    The Pre Op diet

I just finished 2 weeks of Optifast and after the first couple of days - I got to liking it I really only lost 8 # in 2 weeks and was certainly hoping for more but had a lot of stress in this last week as we had a death in the family. Today I will be banded - wish me well.

    Second Month Banded ?

Oh my gosh.. I am incredibly glad you asked this and people are answering. I get my first fill next week. I am down 25 in my first month but it has almost come to a screeching halt. I started a 45 day challenge for exercise yesterday with my weight loss support group. I am hoping this helps and the first fill will help some. I was wondering what I was doing wrong but I knew coming into this it would be a slower weight loss. Thank you for asking this question!
  19. 3 weeks yesterday. I am nervous because of all the gas. Im back to work and running to the bathroom every ten mnts to release large gas which sometimes does and sometimes doesn't have other stuff with it. WTH? I hope this goes away. Its been three days of this. On top of that i haven't moved a pound in three days! I thought this was when it "fell off"!
  20. I'm so nervous! I've been waiting for this day && now it's here I'm just about speechless. I have to fly to a neighbor island && ill be gone from my son for a week && I've never been away from him thing long. How are you doing fellow August sleevers??

    Surgery tomorrow!

Hi Ms. Yvette....yup it's been 2 weeks. I feel a lot better than the first week. The struggle was and is still real. I'm still trying to get used to everything. Having problems with meeting my Protein and liquid goals but still trying my best. My mental struggle w/this is slowly improving especially with time and great support from family and friends.
  22. Whoot! Whoot! 2 months Post-Op Drs. appointment today and I am down 34 LBS. since my surgery on Feb. 14th, 2011. Asked my Dr. how he felt I was doing as far as losing weight goes. He said well let me put it this way, if you were a RNY patient I would have expected you to lose 33 LBS. in 3 months and you have lost surpassed that in only 2 months and you are a sleeve patient. I could've (hugged) my Dr. he made my week. Have to see him in a month so hopefully I will have some more off by then, cuz theres no stopping me now! LOLS! "I LOVE MY SLEEVE"! Hope everyone else has a GREAT WEEK also!!

    stalled......frustrated!

Please don't get discouraged yet- this happens to almost everyone. Your body needs time to catch up to this weight loss. You are more than likely doing everything right and don't need to change a thing. I have hit so many plateaus that I lost count. I even had one that lasted a MONTH! So hang in there- that scale will be coming down again soon. Here is a great link that "Butterthebean" (a member on here) had on his signature that really helps. Check it out. http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html
  24. New_Hope, Everyone knows a "friend of a friend" who had some kind of WLS and failed at it. I actually met the "friend of a friend" last week that I was told about. She looks really good, but, when we chatted, I found out that she had GB, so she didn't fail at the sleeve. There is a ton of info right here for you to see the real life stories and experiences of other sleevers. I think having my sleeve was the best decision I've ever made for myself. I feel like a whole new person, and I've lost nearly one whole person already, at 4.5 months out! Don't let the horror stories freak you out. There IS a risk of complications with any surgery, including VSG. Do your research and be sure that you know what to expect afterwards. Good luck!!
