    pre op appointment

    Well I guess there is always gonna be some risk short of putting you and your team in isolation for weeks before the surgery but cutting your exposure lessened the risk quite a bit. I am guessing that’s the point. It’s Interesting to see what the precautions are for COVID for the different parts of the world. I didn’t even have a COVID test. And I was told I didn’t need a mask in my hospital room either. I wore one cause I didn’t want to do COVID while recovering from surgery but that was my choice. Everyone else wore one so I was probably just fine realistically but It made me feel better.
  2. You just reminded me Lean cuisine has a cauliflower pizza bowl now. So far I have only seen meat lovers. I have been eyeballing them for the last couple weeks.
  3. Okay, Hotwing&aprayer and Arabesque got my attention and I have been thinking about whether I carry myself differently at different weights. I don’t think I really do. Anyways, this Is what came to mind. Has anyone ever seen the fat suit experiment that Tyra banks did years ago? I am not able to find it anywhere in video form but I just read a review of it to refresh my memory. They sent her out to the store, on the bus and on three blind dates in her suit. People as you probably expect were horrible to her. In An article speaking about it Tyra said "It was one of the most heartbreaking days of my life." Noting that people "snickered" and "laughed" when she walked down the street, Banks admitted, "I had no idea it was that blatant." I know it’s not a perfect design but it’s about the closest we’re probably ever going to get to seeing how differently people treat us based on weight alone. After watching something like that I was convinced that the problem does lie with society and with certain people to a large degree and not in large part with the obese person or how they carry themselves. I’m sure that we do carry ourselves at least a little differently when heavy vs thin but I doubt that putting on a suit could change someones Confidence overnight yet everything seemed to change in the way People approached Tyra the second she put on that suit. Thoughts?
  4. I am on week six and can have a few crackers now. I did just have my first really bad episode with food though. We made this soup with polish sausage and I chewed, chewed, chewed. Well, that night and the next day were brutal. I am doing well today. I can only have very small amounts of things but I am getting to the point where a lot is tolerated. Chicken, beef, eggs, no problem.

    Starting my ESG journey!

    I did not feel hungry at all the first few days. It was a struggle just to get enough liquids and protein shakes. I started feeling what I thought was hunger in week 2, because in the past I always interpreted tummy rumbling as a hunger signal. But thankfully, I learned it was actually just digestive / gas bubbles in my new tiny stomach which still had swelling at that time. (I mean, I tried to eat something but threw up. I was just misreading that feeling as a hunger signal.) My team put me on a PPI to control stomach acid, which worked wonders to get rid of that feeling. I also sucked on some lemon sugar-free lozenges for mild sore throat after the procedure, which helped as well. They stopped all my meds, including for pre-diabetes, so I did not get low blood sugar. Maybe ask your team about it if hypoglycemia is a concern? Overall, I had a really easy recovery. I was back at work day 3 after my procedure. No pain whatsoever except occasional gas. The only thing I had difficulty with was the no caffeine rule during the first two weeks. Best of luck to you on Monday!!

    Starting my ESG journey!

    Hello, I am scheduled for ESG on Monday and I'm getting nervous. I previously had VSG about 8 years ago and have regained about half of what I lost....I am on the lower end of the BMI, but have hashimotos and PCOS so its impossible for me to loose weight. This is the only thing that has worked. I already eat super low carb and my diet isn't the problem. I belelive it's from my stomach stretching out. Anyways, I am so nervous for the two weeks of the liquid diet and feeling hungry through that time. Did you guys experience hunger? I'll get shaky and a little hypoglycemic so I'm dreading this part. It gives me comfort to read your experiences and am thankful to have this platform to ask questions on! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

    pre op appointment

    Sounds a lot like mine! It was about a week before surgery and took about 4 hours total. Started with a pre-op review with a Nurse Anesthetist, followed by lab work, final weigh-in, as well as a BIA scan on their In-Body Scale. After that, I had another quick review of the post-op diet, and a review with the nurse educator on what to expect between then and my surgery date. We we also reviewed the general post-op plan, though she said she'd see me again in the hospital (I did), and that we'd review it all again at that time (we did). Finally I met with my surgeon and got to ask whatever questions I had.

    Thank you! She had put an expedite on it since surgery is scheduled in 26 days and I will be out of town next week. So, I should be able to have them done by tomorrow. Honestly it has been over 5 years that I had any of these tests done and I'm freaking out that something can go wrong that will push my date.

    Medical Clearances

    I’m guessing this is because if you are not cleared and you end up having the surgery at a later date you may have to get a new set of labs closer to your surgery date. From my experience labs come back pretty quick (like two or three days my last ones took) so it’s just a matter of how far they are out appointment wise. Do you already have a surgery date to get this all done by? If not you probably will have plenty of time to do your labs waiting on your date. If your really worried I guess you could go ahead and schedule an appointment for it a day or two after your other appointments assuming you will get cleared and get the orders right away. You can always reschedule if you don’t.
  11. I have gone up and down in my weight soooo many times throughout my life and people absolutely treat me differently. I have pointed it out to my husband who didn’t believe me at first but now he notices it too. I notice it from both men and women. People are more helpful and likely to strike up a small talk type conversation when I am closer to a normal BMI. Having said that, I am a little on the shy side and have been told by more than one person they misinterpreted that as my being a b**** in the very beginning. Oddly enough this has only happened when I was at my skinniest. My take is that people tend to think that I am nicer or more approachable as long as I’m not too thin and hot but if i’m a little too heavy I am not even worth their time for some reason. Basically society tends to prefer me barely “normal” to just slightly “overweight” from my experience. What I absolutely hate is when it is someone that I have known for a long time that treats me differently because of my size and this absolutely has happened to me a few times. Thankfully not by any close friends but by people at like bowling league and stuff like that. I have gone from practically invincible for years to someone they all of a sudden want to talk to every week. I just want to scream from the rooftops that I am the same exact person I have always been and sorta want to tell them they are not worth my time because that’s what their actions have been telling me for so long. Of course I don’t say anything. I just hope that by me being nice to them now that they learn not to judge the next person. It can be frustrating and I definitely do vent to my husband about it sometimes but I know people truly don’t do it on purpose so I try to let it go.

    Has your relationship changed?

    I'm only a week out from my surgery. I soooooo hope it doesn't change my relationship! I have a great guy, who loves me no matter what. And I love him with all my heart. A big reason why I got this surgery is because of the big plans that I have for US. If this changes our relationship for the worse, I would be so sad.

    Feeling Stuck

    You know what’s happening. You said it yourself - eating more junk food & old habits sneaking back. It’s the battle we all face & always will to some extent. The surgery only changes our body not our brain sadly. All because you can tolerate those foods doesn’t mean you should eat them. But you have to make the decision as to whether you’ll eat them, how often you’ll eat them & how much of them you’ll eat. Finding a balance of our eating & weight & being able to live the life we want is something we have to discover for ourselves. It’s why many accept being a little heavier than they originally wanted as it’s less restrictive, more sustainable & allows them more flexibility to enjoy their life with family & friends. And that’s okay. Unfortunately, yes, exercising will increase your appetite as your body seeks to replace the calories you’ve burnt being active. If you’re more active you can eat more calories but less than you burn if you want to keep losing. Also exercising only contributes to around 10% of the weight you want to lose. So if you want to lose 20lbs, exercise will contribute to the loss of about 2 of those pounds. Of course, lots of other benefits to being active. I think you know what you need to do if you want to lose more weight. Start by making one change today. Then in a week or so make another. It’s easier to manage & accept going one step at a time. All the best.
  14. I am 14 days post op and went back to work after a week. Everything has been good. I find it better to be at work on my regular routine than to be at home with more freedom.
  15. Glad you both found something that's working for you! The data is pretty clear that WLS patients that partake in at least 200 minutes a week of moderate to strenuous physical activity are significantly more likely to maintain their weight loss. Not everyone will be able to tolerate running for one reason or another due to impact on joints, but there are lots of other activities that will work as well.

    3 week stall

    (Bump bc I don't wanna make a new thread) I mentally prepared myself for my 3 week stall, but bc I had to stop taking birth control to avoid blood clots, my period also came at the exact same time week 3 started. Not only did i stall, but I have a ton of water weight, so I 'gained' a bit. Luckily I know what's going on& i know that's gonna go away & so I don't feel too bad about it, but MAN your first stall is really a bummer. I just gotta keep going

    1 week post op

    I'm 1 month out & I 100% thought I was hungry too, it made my first week miserable. For me those those 'hunger' bubbles were iust gas! & I knew it was gas/a burp because I felt the bubble form as soon as I finished eating my food. I'd burp & it'd go away. I have that feeling right now after eating an egg w veggie sausage in it. Once I MENTALLY understood what was going on, I was fine. We just have to re-learn how to read our bodies.

    Here is a screen shot of some of what you mentioned. I am actually planning on taking another blood test here in a few weeks which is this one just to get more detailed information. Liver Profile #3 Extreme Blood Test Panel | Walk-In Lab (walkinlab.com) But yea i see my surgeon in less than 3 weeks and my primary care in almost the same time. So i will wait for them both to give me their advise and if they want to order any additional test then great That way my insurance pays for it. When i buy my own labs online i have to pay which is not bad at all but still lol

    Liquid Diet PO

    Before my surgery I did the same and tried to stock up on all things protein! Multiple flavors, premier protein water, gatorade protein, gatorade zero, vitamin water zero, you name it... But my taste buds changed so much during those first 2 weeks. My advice is buy a single bottle of protein shakes or zero sugar drinks and see how you tolerate it first before stocking up.

    Feeling Stuck

    HELP! I am 7 months post op and feeling stuck and defeated. Starting weight was 227 and I am now at 155 but I haven't lost any weight this past month. So far I've tolerated everything surprisingly well but some old habits are sneaking back. I've been snacking a lot more, mostly on popcorn, chips, sweets, etc. I've been eating more carbs ever since I noticed I can tolerate them well. I exercise (weights and cardio) about 3 times a week. Since I started exercising, I've noticed I have been eating more now. Has this happened to any of you? What has helped you refocus and get back on track?

    Dumping?

    It lasted for about an hour. I took zofran for the first time (since hospital) and curled up in fetal position until it kicked in. I wasn't able to vomit despite being so nauseous, just lots of spit. I was feeling incredible this morning. Just had my 2 week post-op appointment and my Dr. was saying how great It is that I'm hitting my goals and really pumped me up and made me feel proud...and then I went and chugged my shake like I had no dang sense! 🤦🏼‍♀️ Definitely humbled me to slow down because I never want to experience that feeling again.
  22. Hahaha my my ass and boons are not a glimpse of what they use to be!!!! I didn’t end up with to much loose skin either. I do work out too try to a minimum of 3 days week.
  23. as of right now telling my surgeon during the pre op is my reward lol i had a stall from October 6, 2022 to October 22, 2022… frustrating and i feel so great to break through a stall to this great milestone victory!! oh and it’s my sons 18th birthday (aww my boys are both adults now!!!) so that is ultra sweet to me

    September surgery buddies!!

    I am also week five and I’ve been getting the Ivs for the last two weeks and it has helped - it’s not like a magic energy pill but it does a lot to ease the fatigue. I find that on the weekends i have to just fully rest and i pushed myself last Saturday but doing too much and spend the next two days in bed. I’m hoping this gets better when i start eating normal?

    Good suggestions, thanks. I haven't been measuring, but I have been noting new pants/shirt sizes and this week, new sneaker size!
