I've been fighting allergies and sinus infection for about two weeks with lots of drainage. Went to Dr who prescribed meds but didn't think about asking for liquids. Tried taking the pills but they made me so sick. Couldn't eat before taking the medication. Now I feel like I have a lump in my throats and can't keep anything down. Just sips of Water. What can I do?

Sharp, grabbing pain several weeks post-surgically
Ms. Brightside replied to ryan_86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'd be curious to know whether anyone has any insight, as I have had the same pain under my right rib for a while now (& I haven't yet had surgery). My best guess is a hernia. :/ I plan to ask my surgeon at my consultation In a couple of weeks. Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App -
I was in a week long class this week, with people from all over the country. No one had seen me in person before, only had worked with me remotely. I have a bum ankle/foot - which precludes me from wearing normal dress shoes. I wear orthotic inserts, a metal plate under one insert, and usually an ankle brace of some sort. To fit all this gear in, I wear Chuck Taylor's Converse All Star Tennis shoes with my work attire. I indulge my love of pretty shoes by having an assortment (20 pair0 of Chucks (lots of high tops) that match any business outfit I have. One of the woman at the class was complimenting my shoes on Friday. I explained why I wore Chucks - and mentioned to her I had to decide whether to something like them or bite the bullit and wear orthotic / nursing shoes. She said - "Oh, you are way to young to wear orthotic shoes. You are so beautiful thin, the Chuck's look really cute on you. They make a statement - you are young, with a edge. They are just part of your "brand."". I was so pleased, I laughed aloud. I can't imagine she would have said the same thing to me 9 months and 100 pounds ago. Her comments startled me - being considered young - as I will be 55 this Christmas - and meing caled beautiful thin and cute also took my breath away. This might me the nicest thing anyone has said to me since my surgery.

Calories vs. Net Calories
qtdoll replied to CHRISSER27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is just a stall! Calories in & calories out is THE universal rule & you will continue to lose weight after this little hump. I've had multiple stalls & Im still losing. just stick to your plan & you will see your desired results -
I was the same way, and do not panic, the full feeling will come to you but it takes time. It took a good 6 weeks for me to feel full. I was very surprised be the amount I was able to eat 2-3 weeks after my surgery and I thought great, I am screwed lol but the full feeling came soon, and the restriction is amazing. One thing though, the full feeling that you used to know is gone, no more, forget it. At this time when you are full you will feel rather sick...bloated...nauseous...it's not that happy, warm feeling we used to get before the surgery. I miss that feeling Soon you will be surprised how little food you need. Oh and from pureed, soft food I can still eat a whole lot more, watch it when you switch to dense protein, hmmmm 2-3 bites and you just wanna stop eating FOREVER

Normal to have weight gain after surgery?
liannatx replied to vsgbeccab's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is all the IV fluids and swelling from the surgery, totally normal! I came home heavier by several lbs... like 6 or 8 lbs heavier! I don't really remember now, but do know that it dropped off a little each day and by the end of the first week I was several lbs lower than surgery weight. -
Normal to have weight gain after surgery?
lauraellen80 replied to vsgbeccab's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also, I will say that while I saw the scale go down, for the first few weeks I still felt pretty bloated. Once the post-op swelling went down and my body started healing, it was much better. -
Did you lose 40lb in the 4 weeks since your surgery?
-
honestly, it's kind of foggy now. I am guessing about a week- or 10 days? I had a nerve block in my abdomen so my pain was never really bad, and I did not have a hernia repair or anything else.

A good time is coming, I wish it were here, The very best time in many a year; I'm counting each day on my fingers and thumbs 2 weeks of milkshakes and one cup of hot broth. I finally get weighed for the scary pre-op, But the nurses all smile and write on my chart, I'll not mind the pain, even if my tummy still growls For it brings the time nearer when MY band will be on. Better than cookies with tinsel and glimmer My Christmas cheer, will come -when I see I am thinner!

I too had the "first bite syndrome" spasams. I had them bad when I started eating even mushies after 6 weeks. My Dr. kept pointing the finger at me saying I was eating too big of bites, not chewing enough or eating too fast. I told him that I was taking a extra small bite and couldn't eat too fast because I could only eat one bite!!!!!!! I ended up eating an awful lot of cold foods. When you take a bite make it small, chew it well. Take the bite and you will know if it resists. Then if it catches, set the food aside for like 5 mins, then try again. sometimes it takes a few tries. Also, have a nice cup of warm Water with lemon or tea before you eat. that can help settle the spasams. whatever you do......don't put liquid on food that ever feels stuck. That is soooooo much fun! screaming pain followed by vomiting. You will also sometime endure the pain of when the hole gets plugged up with food. that is the worst. That is why you chew thoroughly then eat really slow. no liquids on top.

HELP Restriction Gone Overnight! Whats wrong?
LoadsofLaughs posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I just got my second fill 3 weeks ago. Each fill has been 1cc. I was actually thinking that I may have gone too tight because I was PBing a lot and eatting in the morning was almost impossible. Two nights ago I was watching TV when suddenly I got a small pain. It only lasted about 4 seconds. It sort of felt like a stitch had come undone (not say thats what is was, just how it felt). The next day I didnt get a chance to eat until 8pm. I was starving and I orders a large bowl of wonton Soup in a Chinese Rest. I ate the whole bowl without any problem. It wasnt until later that I though WTF, how did that happen? Well the next morning i I ate a slice a toast, again zero restriction. That is unheard of for me in the morning. I got scare and called my doctor. I thought I might have had a slip. He said I'd be in paid if I had a slip. I asked if it could be errosion. He said he thought it was too soon for that (banded 6 months ago). A leak? He said not likely. He asked if my port had shifted or if it was hard to access. It hasnt and its easy to access. He told me I should get a barrium swollow. He actually says that I may just need another fill! Is that possible? I made an appointment with my fill Dr. I must say that I dont think this is a greatest Dr and wonder if he will do a good job of ID'ing the problem. Has anyone ever hear of anything like this, total restriction one day and none the next? I have an appointment next Thursday, but would like any feedback i could get now. Thanks, Loads of Laughs -
Hello everyone, I was banded on January 9th 2006. I have already lost a total of 11 pounds in the 1st week. But as of today I feel no restriction. I was sick on 2 occasions yesturday, is it possible that I have moved the band or even made it come apart? I dont feel like eating now at all and have dropped to 1 meal a day. Would anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks BLUE

Merry merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all had a great day. I've been reading about stalls and I think I'm having my wonderful 3 week one during week 2. No panic here but curious if anyone can tell me the reason behind the stalls? Thoughts?

What causes stalls?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to ShannonbKSU's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also, my understanding (from years of dieting) is that stalls/plateaus are when my body is rearranging everything to accommodate the fat loss-- moving fat around so that is more easily accessible, etc. -
What causes stalls?
BLERDgirl replied to ShannonbKSU's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The human body just goes in to self preservation mode and as it adjusts to the lower calorie intake it hold on to every calorie. That's why for some increasing how much they eat actually helps break the stall. @@sweetie716 FYI if you want to follow a post at the top of the thread, just click the box that says "following". Howdy from Texas... Banded May 31, 2007
agchick96 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My name is Jennifer and I was banded May 31, 2007 in Bryan TX by Dr. John Mason. So far I have lost 22.5 lbs. I have had 3 fills totaling up to 2.5 cc (I have 4 cc band). I didn't notice much restriction until the second fill and after the third one this week (Tuesday 7/31/07) I'm really noticing it. I am so glad that I had this procedure. It was a 2 yr journey just to get approved with my insurance since they had so many requirements, but luckily everything worked out and so far I haven't had any problems with the band. -
Cleaning Out My Closet.
HalloweenBaby24 replied to HalloweenBaby24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@BorntoDive Thanks! Going to try, hopefully all the rain we've been having here clears up soon. @@InfiniteButterfly Yeah it's a pain in the butt to have to order from them online, if you don't like it you can't just return it to the store.. It's been hit or miss but I've found a few nice pieces through trial and error. See you all in a few weeks! -
BUT after the 2 weeks post surgery you could have coffee again?
-
I remember when I went in for my first post-op appt. I was seated next to three people. One was a woman who had come in to check out the available options for WLS, one was a woman who had WLS (sleeve) when it first became available and then the third, a young girl who was getting sleeve in two weeks. The girl kept blabbering on and on about how she chose the sleeve because "it works fast!" and how she didn't want to take her time to lose weight, she wanted it gone NOW. The other woman who already had surgery was telling everyone how she lost a lot of weight, and how she could keep drinking and partying her butt off, which naturally, made the young girl VERY happy. When they got called back, the other woman asked me what I had, and I told her lapband, and how I would much rather lose the weight slowly but surely (sometimes I question this, lol), and that the girl seemed to be taking the easy way out, and the other woman seemed downright insane, lol.

Congratulations on your bandiversary! I always have a cup of coffee 1st thing. The doctors claim that a cup of coffee is good for women. I have used coffee from the 3rd week of my surgery. I am almost 3 years. I can't function without 1 cup in am. Best wishes and keep in touch with your surgeon's office. Karen

Trouble advancing diet
hollyr replied to AshleyMidwife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually told my husband today that I am just now starting to really understand how I can eat. I eat very small amounts every few hours. (I eat mostly Protein bars and a few times a week I eat a bit of "normal" food) That's what works for me and everyone is different. You'll figure out what works for you. -
Hi Gman, welcome to the world of the banded. I also had a hernia repair and had diaphragm pain for about 4 days, it hurt in my upper chest. I also stopped taking pain medication on day four. I could not lie on my left side for several days, I would go to bed lay on the right side and half way thru the night I would go to the recliner. It was just more comfortable. Within the week I was sleeping in my bed all night. If you are still in pain maybe you could just take the pain medication when you need it the most, say at night so you can sleep. Be sure you are taking something to help you go to the bathroom, those pain meds and the lack of good Fiber make it very painful to go. My doctor suggested MOM (Milk of Magnesia) and it works great. Good luck to you and hope you feel better soon.

Lisa could find fun if we were stuck in the bottom of a dumpster for a week. It's all in the attitude.
