I wouldn't mind so much if......

You need to look back and reflect on how much weight you gained when you did have all those Snacks. This year reward yourself with a treat of a new outfit, manicure or a facial. Change your mindset from not loosing to not gaining and count that as a reward. Also take out the measuring tape and see if your body changed and shrunk. Usually the Nsv are just as great to Celebrate as the LBs dropping. Embrace your new lifestyle, your doing great!!

    The Skinny on NSGs

So I finally got a chance to sit down and watch my DVRed episode of The Biggest Loser finale. I have to say, for a show that promotes losing weight and getting in shape, they make you sit in front of the TV for an awfully long time to find out who won. That aside, those contestants are damn motivational. Seriously, Mike lost over 200 lbs in 6 months, and that 64 year old guy who won the at home prize lost nearly as much and he was only on the Ranch for 2 weeks. If these guys can do it without surgery, surely I can be as successful with the help of my new, super, duper band. Personally, I wanted Tara to win. I think because I related the most to her. Sure, she’s a little younger than me, but only by 4 years. We’re still both in our twenties—the prime of our lives. She’s my height and was close to my weight when she started out—her just under 300lbs and me just over. She never fell below the dreaded yellow line and she won challenge after challenge. She was truly a force to be reckoned with. I hope that I can be half as successful as she has been. And speaking of the challenges, I come to the real point of this blog. By week 11, the remaining contestants were all confronted with a true test of how far they’d come in less than 3 months—they ran a half-marathon. Then, 2 months later they were faced with a doubly difficult challenge—a full marathon. Every remaining player completed a full 26.2 miles, even Ron—the 54 year old father with a multitude of health problems. If they can accomplish such a feat, in such a short time, I certainly can as well. And so I will. I have set a goal for myself. We all look for those NSVs that keep us motivated, and so I am setting myself a NSG—non scale goal. I am going to run a half marathon. A little bit of research on my part has informed me that there is one in Queens on September 20th and another in the Hamptons on September 26th. I will be at one of those two races and I will make it to the finish line.
  3. Ok so today my shoulders are KILLING me so I decided to take a hot bath in my jacuzzi bathtub. I hadn't taken a bath ( I'm a shower person) since before my surgery in june. When I finish a bath I always drain the water and get out after the tub is empty. I've always had to move my hinny to release the trapped water behind me. Most of you all know what I'm talking about. Well, tonight after the water drained, I did my shimmy and low and behold... NO WATER!! my butt has shrank so much that no longer trap water behind me! Woo hoo!!!

Great NSV Brandi (For some reason, I keep wanting to call you "Bandi") WOW!!!!! 70 pounds in SEVEN months! WOOT! Way to go, and you are an inspiration to me! Please tell us your secret!
  5. I pulled out a pair of pants this morning to hang in my vision as Clothing Goal #1 to be able to wear. Previously I could not get in them much less zip the up. Well, not only did I get them on, they feel a little loose. So, I have decided to wear them today and find another article of clothing to strive to wear later.
  6. I have always loved to wear fine waled cords in the winter months - but I gave that up when I became obese because of the noise the cords made when I walked because my thighs rubbed together. There was so much friction, I'm surprised the pants didn't catch fire. The last pair I owned (way before my highest weight) had places on the inside of the thighs where the cords were rubbed smooth from the pressure. This winter, I have two very nice pair - one in black and one in camel. And, they don't make any noise when I walk in them. YEA!
  7. That is an awesome nsv! I was just looking at my cords today and feeling sad because I've rubbed them smooth just like you said. I'm so glad to be getting sleeved next week.

    18 Days Out

That's great! Good for you. And I love how you listed all of your things...SV...NSV...fears, etc. made me think about a few things for myself. I am scheduled to go on July 12, and am excited to get started on this journey. I hope my recovery goes as smoothly as your seems to be.
  9. Yesterday I was out with my wife and she drew my my attention to a man with a large belly. She said, "That is just what you used to look like." "Yes, and you used to constantly tell me to pull my jacked-up shirt back over my belly!" I said. "You haven't bugged me about that in a long time!" "Yes, I know!" she said with a big smile. She didn't want me walking around with half a hairy belly sticking out, I didn't think I could help it. The shirts I bought fit fine when I bought them, washed once they became belly shirts. I literally walked around with both hands stretching the shirt down over the beach ball so I wouldn't get the needle from her. Of course, she didn't like that either. Now the silence is golden. I no longer own a shirt which instigates a Jerry Springer scene.
  10. Hello Aubrie, there's a few threads around here like this one, I always love these threads because it is so inspiring and offers so much insight into what makes each of us tick. In case you wanted to check some others' responses as well, I've listed a few of them. The first one is one that is fairly recent. Thanks for your list, I love it! http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/has-anybody-made-list-things-you-want-do-after-weight-loss-29177/ http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f7/looking-forward-9038/ http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/what-do-you-did-you-look-forward-too-21239/ http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f15/nsv-i-look-forward-anyone-else-me-23899/ http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/what-things-can-you-do-now-your-banned-you-could-not-before-13671/
  11. So this weekend I had to go out and buy new shoes because my feet are now a size smaller and a new jacket. I used to wear a size 3x jacket and now I wear, drum roll please a size xl. As you can imagine I was swimming in my old jacket. Now for another way to go, to date I have lost 102 lbs. 42 lbs since Nov 9th, my surgery date and the rest were lost when I had to do the 6 months of classes and stuff. But thanks to my sleeve this is gone forever and I love it. People at work comment that pretty soon there will be nothing left of me, hee hee. I love how people don't recognize me anymore either. Hubby and I went out to our local bar, which I hung out at before meeting him every weekend for 2 years and no one realized it was me next to him (btw I met him there too). It was kind of mind blowing. One of our friends was pissed at him thinking he brought another chick to the bar and was going to cuss him out, then she heard me talk and realized yup it is his wife, her friend and I'm still there. Her comment was at the time holy cow, how much weight have you lost 100 lbs and my response on that day was nope 99 to be exact, lol. Now one set back from losing all this weight is the hair loss and I'm starting to notice sagging skin. I have really thick and pretty long hair and now it's just coming out by the handfuls, kinda scary. The sagging skin, I'm working out every day but only 10 mins at a time, 3 times a day just so I don't aggravate my back and I'm using resistance bands till I get my elliptical. So we'll see how this plays out.

    NSV and some

Hey Leslie girl, GREAT JOB!!!!! What an excellent NSV!! Keep up the good work and positive attitude, you are gonna have all your dreams come tru in no time.
  13. Thanks everyone! Logically I know I need to chill, but I am so freakin' impatient!!! Arrggg!!! I do need to focus on the NSV, like when my husband tells me I'm wasting away I just really really want to make sure that I'm not done losing yet... that is my biggest fear and why I'm chained to the scale. Every time the number doesn't move or it goes up, I freak out a little. I will just keep on keeping on.
  14. This month marks one year surgerversary for me. I hit goal 8 months ago but it's taken me this long to finally take my rings in and get them resized. I also had them redipped so they look brand new. Have a great weekend everyone. Go Hawks- LA

    Recently noticed a NSV

That's an important, thrilling one, @@Sophie74656, one of the most significant NSV's I think. I had a similar experience about a week after arriving in Onederland at 197 pounds, having started at 310. It became part of an essay that was published five years ago. Excerpt "A few days later a friend and I went to the live HD screening of the Met's new production of Nixon in China. During an intermission, he took pictures of me as he has on other occasions to document my weight-loss progress. A woman watched, laughing, while waiting for her husband. She told my friend, 'She's good,' nodding her head to point toward me while referring to my apparent comfort and fun with our photo session. Ordinarily I would have explained, offered apologia: 'Oh, no, you don't understand, I've lost a lot of weight, I always ran from cameras, I never felt good about myself, I haven't let anyone take pictures in many years, blah blah blah.' This time I controlled the impulse to burden this open-hearted, unsuspecting stranger with my mishegas. This time I smiled and said, 'Thank you.'"

    225 pounds please help

No problem with the English, Betje! Though your food sentence was a touch confusing. Did you mean that you only eat meat? No veggies, Soup or munchies? Or that you only eat soup, munchies & veggies... you don't eat meat? I have a bunch of questions to look at as possible issues: Have you been journaling your food? If not, you might start there as a place to look at what's slowing you down. If you have been journaling, what is your average calorie intake? Are you full between meals? What is your fill level? Are you eating mushies/liquid/soft foods at all? How are you doing fighting sweets? Do you exercise? If you do, what is your average? How many times per week, for how long & what intensity? Are you getting all of your fluids in? Minimum of 64 ounces? Are you taking your Vitamins & Calcium? Are you getting enough Fiber? Are you regular? When you were gaining, did you pause at 225 for a while? How long? If you have access to a nutritionist or physical trainer, make appointments with them for a check-up. It never hurts to just make sure you're on the right track! I'm guessing this is just a plateau. You've done awesome with your weight loss!! Your body may just need time to get used to your new weight & get ready for another push. Take a status check & make sure you're doing everything right. If you are, then just ignore the scale for a bit & focus on your NSVs (non-scale victories) -- clothes that fit better, ability to do things you couldn't before, etc. Good luck & congrats on the 61 pounds gone forever!

    Nsv

I lost an entire shoe size! Was not expecting that
  20. It's such an amazing accomplishment. Congrats on your success, and best wishes for many more NSVs in the near future.

    Hi, I'm new here.

My plumeting cardio numbers during my workout was the latest NSV I guess.
  22. Nicely said Alexandra I also think that as you loose fat around your stomach and it shrinks, adjustments may need to be made. I don't know if the "sweet spot" when you feel the optimum restriction, last for very long? I thought I'd mention NSV(non-scale Victories) whats your latest? my wedding ring fits on my index finger. Carol It was nice to meet you! Keep sipping the Water, in a few weeks you'll be gulping it. Did you meet with Marty the nutritionalist? Did she have any good suggestions? So girl, you own a Harley, cool.

    Major NSV!!

Ok, I can't remember who posted about the 'skinny girl in the mirror', but I, too, can't picture myself skinnier. Although everything and everyone around me tells me different! A little background..... Well, today, I went to Mexico for an unfill. To make a long story short, some of you may have read my complications while on vacation in Chicago and having a hard time finding a doctor to unfill me. Well anyways, I don't want to experience the same situation while I am flying to Hawaii for my son's first football game. So I went for an unfill and will get a fill upon my return. I don't fly much ever, so this won't become a habit, but I am taking the safe side. While in the office, Dr. Ortiz walked in and he gave me a hug, asked how I was doing, blah blah. He asked how much weight I had lost and how much more I want to lose. I told him 30-40 more lbs. He said "Why? You look fantastic right now!" That boosted my self esteem up so high, I was walking out of the office after that with my head up so high! It was just nice hearing such positive words from a doctor! I really do need to lose more lbs, I know, but just wanted to share with everyone and tell everyone once again what a nice man Dr. Ortiz is!!!

    First nsv!

Congrats on your NSV. I got my 2nd NSV this week, had to buy a smaller belt. My old belt looks like Swiss cheese, it has so many holes in it.
