    Happy About Some Nsvs Today...

Great NSVs! It's always great to have something unexpected happen which makes you feel wonderful . Here are some of mine, -getting in the car, after my slim daughter drove it, and fitting without having to move the seat (I used to have to move the seat before I could even get into the car!) -being able to fit in a student desk (I am a high school teacher) -going to a restaurant and ME being able to choose to sit in either a table or booth -putting my seat belt on and thinking "wow- this is pretty long now" -no more seat belt extenders -seeing a dress in BJs and buying it without trying it on- when I got it home, it not only fit but it actually looked good! -going on vacation and realizing that I no longer have to panic if my luggage gets Iost since I can now shop anywhere) -being EXCITED about getting dressed for my husband's business parties because I have a cute dress to wear and I am actually PROUD of the way I look! - feeling my collar bones! -wearing a necklace without an extender ! -stepping on a scale at the regular Dr.s office and being congratulated -not scolded- about the number I was a size 28 or 30 dress- now I am a 14. (EVERY 14 actually fits now!). (btw I was sleeved 12/11 but I also was on a high Protein diet for many mos. pre-op) The sleeve is the BEST thing I ever did for me. It has forced me to take care of myself and put myself first.-which has made me happier, and those around me happier!I have more energy to take better care of my family.
  3. Thanks. I hope others will join me with their pictures. I'm half way to goal and can not imagine what those NSV pictures will look like.
  4. I'm on a business trip - the 2nd one I've taken since surgery and losing almost 67 lbs. - When I went to pack my suitcase I found that the majority of my suits no longer fit; fortunately I had two that fit nicely - looser than I ever remember being able to wear them. One of them has always been my favorite. - Wore a favorite suit today that, as best I can remember, I have not worn in 8+ years. Felt great just walking around in it and when I looked at myself in the mirror from the side I saw nice curves - instead of bulges - Before I left I realized it was time to buy new underwear - two sizes smaller - let alone a new smaller slip too. Both fit nicely, thank you very much - went out to eat and my napkin did not fall off my lap! Seriously this is huge to me. I've got to believe others can relate to this. Before I would go through numerous napkins when going out to eat. It was especially embarassing when with a group. My napkin would fall off my lap very shortly after placing it there; then I couldn't reach down to pick it up. So I'd ask for another or take an extra from the table only to have the same thing happen again. Of course, no one ever said anything and I tried to act like nothing was wrong but this really bothered me. I guess I finally have a lap again - am enjoying compliments from many people who I haven't seen in a month or so and who can't get over how much weight I've lost - it's just so great to be able to sit on the plane and not use an extender belt. I even bought my own years ago since I was always embarrassed to ask for one. - caught myself just naturally crossing my legs the other night; whoa didn't even know I could do that again I hope you guys don't mind me sharing these with you. I always enjoy reading everyone else's and 'm looking forward to lots more to come. Susie

Ill Show You Mine, If You Show Me Yours!

I'm not sleeved yet, buy I love your NSVs. Congrats. I think I'm looking forward to my feet shrinking the most. Sent from my iPad using VST
  6. Okay, so I thought it would be fun to post pictures of NSV's. Pictures motivate me so I thought it would be fun to post all kinds of them showing an NSV. I have posted 5 examples, but they can be anything, like a seatbelt that is too big, extra room in a seat, 2 people in your old pants, etc. Funny or serious, no feat too small pictures can help us through our stalls (hey, that rhymed). We can use these pictures to reflect back on the progress by SEEING our NSVs. Surgery Date: 3/13/12 SW: 243.6 CW: 193.6 5'5" 1st picture: my watch was tight when I went in for surgery 2nd picture: my feet shrunk and now my shoes are too big 3rd picture: my size 18w can be pulled down without unbuttoning 4th picture: I can't wear my wedding rings-they fall off 5th picture: I can cross my legs Please post yours!!!!

NJ2NC....what a great NSV! I know its easy to get discouraged...I get there at least once a week myself. But we just take it one day at a time. Have you tried upping your cardio while maintaining your strength/weight training?

Fitness Nsv - I Stood Up

I stopped at a local store last night that has really good prices on canned goods and, as always, time was tight. I got to the right aisle and what I needed was on the the bottom shelf..waaay in the back. No way I could just bend from the waist and reach the cans. My choices were get on the floor or find some nice young and limber stock person to help; I decided to risk the floor. I carefully bent one knee and was able to reach all the way to the back of the shelf and then I STOOD UP. I didn't have to lever myself up using the shelf or the cart; I didn't have to push myself up with my hands and my legs splayed out behind me. It amazing! Maybe not a marathon, but I cannot remember the last time I just stood up from the floor without help or extremely ungraceful contortions. Not sleeved yet, but I am making progress even without any weight loss. Robbie

Hi everyone! I've managed to stay in Onederland since Friday...so I guess I'm on my way (as long as I keep doing what I'm doing). I'm over halfway there. The scale is a great victory, but I thought I'd share a couple of NSVs as well. One of my co-workers told me the other day that I don't look like I need to lose another 48 pounds! (I love that guy! LOL). I finally can look at myself in the mirror and say, "you know what ChrissyLu...you're getting thinner!" I've weeded out so many "too big" clothes from my closet, that I actually have room to hang things like t-shirts and shorts. LOL. ReadyForMyJourneyToBe..just stay focused and don't compare yourself to others. This is a different journey for each of us. Make sure you are getting your water and your protein in every day. "JustDoIt" (I think) gave me the idea to alternate high/low calorie days to kind of shake my body up a bit. You can do that with your workouts to. Some days increase your cardio a bit more than the day before. I must say that for me, increasing my exercise has been key. But you can do this!! And no...you are not alone. Erica...congrats on those 3 pounds. Just keep at it...one day at a time. JDI...welcome back from vacation! Hope the beach was wonderful! I hope I can get there soon but I'm not counting my chickens. Nicole...good for you on managing that end-of-year stress! How are things going on the homefront? Hope all is well. And to everyone else: Hello and have a great rest-of-the-day!

    July 4Th Challenge

I haven't done great this week. Being pre-op, I'm fining it harder than ever to not just eat everything in site! I did have a bit of a NSV: we went to a Chinese buffet and I ate half as much as I would have originally. That was a big deal for me. SW:310 Pre-surgery W: 292 Surgery Weight:? Current weight: 298 So I've gained 4 lbs. this week. Meh.

I'm Hoping With Wheight Loss I Can

Since ive lost some weight i have lots more self confidence because i look and feel better. the compliments dont hurt either, especially from men ! ( Im married , not dead !) The cuter clothes are in a smaller size, i have more energy , im sleeping better and am able to run a little. Im wearing a belt ! A cute one ! etc. One day after i had lost about 30 lbs i had an unexpected nsv. I sat down on the couch to paint my toenails, and i very easily pulled my heel up to my rear where i could easily reach my feet . i had not been able to paint my own toenails comfortably in many , many years because my big ol' stomach had been in the way ! Not anymore ! So im looking forward to hiking, riding a horse , being a runner, dropping more weight, having my pants get too big again, getting rid of my sleep apnea machine, climbing in to our fishing boat without rocking it, etc................im saving money because i eat less, so i spend it at Goodwill on clothes that will fit my shrinking body !

    Nsv And Reality Check

Congrats on your NSV!!! Your post made me smile!
  18. Ok. I'm a year post op (6/6) and I've lost 78 lbs. I've gone from a size 18 to a size 10. I'm told I look great but I've got to honest, sometimes I don't see it or realize how far I've come. I got a HUGE reality check yesterday. Over a year ago I flew in a plane and squeezed myself with the seatbelt. I didn't want to ask for an extension so I sucked it all in and barely buckled up. You couldn't even see my seatbelt as it was tight and hidden under my big belly. Yesterday I flew on a plane with my family which included my sister and her two year old twins. One fell asleep in my arms mid-air. The seatbelt light came on and I didn't want to put my nephew down because I didn't want him to wake up. Ready? Ready! The seat belt fit around me AND my nephew AND IT WAS STILL LOOSE!!! I couldn't believe it. I was in tears. It was a reality on how far I've come. My weight has come off slow and I've run across many plateaus but it has and will continue to come off. I just wanted to share
  19. That's an amazing NSV!! I hope you're keeping track so you can do the tax write-off!

8 Weeks Out - Slow Scale Movement!

I know it's hard, but you need to stop comparing to others & just compare you to you. Look at how far you've come. I'm 5 weeks out now & have lost 19.6 lbs since surgery (32.2 lbs in 7 weeks with pre-op). I have never before lost that much in 5 or 7 weeks!! I've also lost 15+ inches (haven't measured for this week yet). I also focus on all my non-scale victories. There are so many things I'm enjoying more now that I was 30 lbs ago! If you check out my blog - http://mygastricsleevelife.blogspot.com/ - you can check out a post I did about "my new four-letter word 'compare'" & other posts about NSVs & the scale. I'm sure you get a workout with your kids & are more active than you think too! Please just focus on your own successes! I'm not saying you can't be supportive to others, but don't make other people's successes get you down!! You have your own successes to rejoice in!

    Question Bandster Family??????

Don't worry about Bandster hell! I don't consider that I have gone through it and was banded in 08. The worst part was right after I had surgery, then again after I had a fill a few weeks ago where I thought.. what did I do? I got over that right away, and frankly do not want to be without the band. I have PB on Occassion since I got the recent fill, but never before. I have found that feeling sad or mourning food choices is the worst of it for me, but I think about how fast I started to feel better and any negative thoughts go away. I think alot has to do with the way your looking at it. There is little you cannot have in moderation when you think about it, take it one day at a time. You will find that when you go to bed you will wake up wondering what subtle changes your body has done... at least that is how I think about it.. think of the NSV... not all of it is on the scale!

    Where are the 50s ???

Well, it finally happened. Three weeks later than I expected. Six weeks out and I hit a stall. Stuck at 215 for the last week. It's okay though since I added exercise to the schedule this week so my body is probably just trying to adjust. I did have a great NSV this week too. I cleaned out my closet and took two large trash bags of clothes that i will never wear again to a consignment store that sells only women's sizes 14 and over. I get 50% of the sales price. These are very nice clothes as I have to wear business dress for work. I can use the profits as credit in the store if I want. The store has really cute clothing and accessories so I think this is a good deal as I am dropping sizes and don't want to spend the money on new clothes. Great transitional clothing! I'm eating regular food now but still having a hard time getting the calories up to 800 per NUT's recommendation. Still around 600. Protein has been in the high 70's to low 80's, carbs in the 20's, and at least 64 ounces of water daily, sometimes more. Last night I had halibut cakes, rather cake (singular) since I could barely eat one. I'm not finding eating at restaurants challenging at all. There always seems to be healthy choices. I ate one or two bites of the outside of the cake which was very lightly coated with panko, and ate mostly the middle of the cake and two green beans. It was a delicious meal, although just the very small bites of the panko crust did send me to the bathroom an hour later. At least I thought that's what it was. Could also have been the rich filling in the halibut cake too. For Father's Day, I'm making Emily's Bites Lasagna Cpcakes since my husband wants lasagna. Can't wait to try them! I feel like I am in a really good rhythm now and it is great!
  23. I remember the stalls I had and I would totally get frustrated and depressed. I had to get away from the scale because it was driving me absolutely crazy! It was amazing to see the inches melt away when I was in a stall and I loved it, except I had to spend money for new clothes. But today, I have very few cloths and am determined to not settle for what will fit and only, I mean only, buy the clothes I absolutely fall in love with. YayyyyyyyY! You guys will have several stalls but will be losing inches. Ditch the stupid scale and live day by day enjoying every NSV that is coming your way. I love my sleeve but sometimes, on certain days, I do want to eat more. So I constantly will have to be on top of my head hunger and drink lots of water first. We can do this!
  24. Thank you for these great words of wisdom Shadayo! I have been one of those people who have posted on the forums stressing out about my stalls. My husband did me a favor and took the batteries out of my scale. He lets me weigh once a week. I was driving myself crazy if I didnt see the numbers going down. I became quite obsessed with the darn scale. I now focus on all the wonderful things I can do being 130 lbs lighter and know that I am not quite done losing weight. NSV's are MUCH more rewarding than any number the scale can say.
  25. Dear people who are in a stall or not losing weight, Stop weighing yourself everyday. Just my advice. If you are eating right and exercising you will lose the weight unless there is a medical problem... which is not usually the case. Your body is not a machine. It takes time. Maybe try weighing in once a week or better yet every 2 weeks. I got rid of my scale altogether and I only weigh myself when I go to visit my mother which is within the time frame I just gave you. I don't think I have had any stalls... but I wouldn't know because I focus on my well-being and NSV's, not pounds on a daily basis. Now if 1 or 2 months goes by and no weight loss and you are doing everything right- then worry. But besides that don't stress so much. I am only posting this because I feel sorry for those of you who are so stressed out. I am about happiness and optimism and I thought I'd spread it a little. :-) Have a good and healthy day! Sincerely, Shadayo
