    Sleeved on 4/28

Thanks everyone & hello fellow 4/28 sleevers out there. Yes I am doing fine otherwise. I do get full on water alone which is kind of frustrating because before the sleeve I drank at least 80 oz. of water a day. I always had a 32 oz. water bottle with me. Now I feel like my mouth is constantly dry and when I try to drink I can't get more than 1.5 to 2oz. in before my stomach starts feeling wierd. I actually prefer water to any other fluids, I just wish I could drink more. I even started sucking on ice chips since the hospital to help quinch the dry mouth which provides about 10 seconds of relief before I get the dry mouth again. This morning my nurse told me since stomach is swollen it may be the reason why I can't drink as much so guess I will have to just wait it out...unfortunately. Thanks again for all the great suggestions! I will keep everyone posted. :tongue_smilie:

    Totally Frustrated Newbie Needs Advice

Dont stress out. You are not filled enough yet. You will know it when you are. I did the same thing you did at first. Its been a year for me and I have only lost 46 lbs total. Im now back to a size 10. When you are filled about half way - stay there!!! Dont go tighter. You need to learn HOW to eat and when you do that the fat will come off. I still occasionally have the foods I like but mostly I eat clean. Research what eating clean means and follow that diet. If you are serious about losing the fat you will stay on track.
  5. Hi everyone! Ive been so busy these past months with the holidays and everything. My T-giving was hard work, but I feel great that everything was healthy and low carb, low salt food. I actually lost 3lbs and I dunno how. So far, I'm happy with my weight loss and I have my 4th fill on the 8th. I am finding I'm getting stuck more often, but I still dont feel hungry. I'm working out 5-6 days a week, but recently I've had a blow to my routine This week my husband had another episode. He has congestive heart failure at 25. He was born with a heart problem that no one thought would degrade this quickly. He has a ICD defibulator inplanted already for 6 years. Since August things have went down hill. This weekend he went back to the hospital. We are being told that he needs a transplant. So they shipped him off to a transplant center which is kinda far away from where we live, but closer to his family which makes me feel better. However, no children are allowed which sucks. We have a 19 month old. They said in time if he gets off of being bed ridden then he can go to the visiting area and see him, but for now no. He has a week worth of evaluations to see if his system can take it then onto a transplant list. People always talk about the physical and him getting better, but mentally he isnt doing so well. He is depressed and misses us. Especially his son. My God, our son is our world. He is a daddy's boy. We are trying to work out the visits and have someone there to wait with our son while I see him. He's gonna be in the hospital for a while, months even. So I'll try to fix up his room when I visit this weekend with something Christmas like. I just hate to see him so sad. He wants to give up, but I tell him he cant and its normal to feel that way. My hubby is normally full of life and jokes, but now he is grim and cranky. I worry so much. I'm having to work so we can pay the bills. It sucks being here, when I just wanna be at the hospital. I have so many things to do. I just try to take it slowly. One thing at a time. As for my diet, well I've stuck to it and I'm proud of that. Thank god im not an emotional eater. When I get depressed I don't eat. So here I am just trying to hang on.
  6. I was sitting in one of my university classes today and my professor passed around several pages of pictures, each of which had at least 10 different but NORMAL variations of body organs. The one that really made me stop and think is the picture of the stomachs. Each stomach looked drastically different from the rest and the caption under the pictures said something like "A sampling of the many variations of the shape of a stomach in normal, healthy humans." It got me to thinking- we are always comparing our lapband experience to others- why are they losing more weight, or less? Why are they naturally restricted and I need fills all the time? Why can some people eat any type of food and others have a PB after they nibble on some bread? I'm a huge believer in getting other people's opinions and learning from other's experiences- but this was a good reminder that we all come with our own variations in anatomy and our experience is going to be completely unique to us- and it's okay!!! Just a thought!!!

    Not very much weight loss

@@jenengelmann U can go months getting fills or U could be one of those lucky patients who will only require 1-2...I find it to be different for everyone. As of your March 5th fill expect to be tight for the first few days because most fills come with irritation & swelling. This causes less food consumption so U will lose some weight that week. But once the irritation goes away U will be able to tolerate larger portions almost as if u had no band at all, and thus regain those lbs U just lost. This inconsistency with restriction then no restriction having to diet and count calories and carbs and working out is what we like to title Bandsters Hell (excuse my french) My band holds 10cc's I believe Im filled pretty close to 8cc's. I feel Im in the green zone (or possibly too tight, depends on who U ask) because 3 spoons of Soup at noon keeps me satisfied until dinner. Dinner I'll have a cup (maybe less) of Garlicy Spinach from Boston Market. Mornings Im satisfied with coffee (or any warm liquid) because mornings are when my band is tightest. Ive lost 60lbs from August 2014 to January 2015...only 5months. Where before August 2014 I was losing and then regaining the same 10-12lbs over and over again.......

    Not very much weight loss

I feel like I am a slow loser - 30 pounds in 4 months. This month has been a bit frustrating because I keep fluctuating 5 pounds. I blame the crazy weather we had for a bit because I quit exercising completely, and quite frankly I have been craving junk. But 30 pounds is still 30 pounds. I gained a little after my initial first week post-op (before my 2nd fill) but that was right in the middle of the holidays. it gets better with each fill - hold onto that. I have my next fill thursday and I have really high hopes for that in getting to the green zone. it has been a little frustrating this past month because I really thought I was at green with this last fill, but as I have struggled I know I am not quite where I need to be. But 10 pounds is 10 pounds. Be proud! That is 10 pounds that you can say goodbye to for forever. Also, a little perspective once given to me, as you have about 60 more you want to lose, you only have to lose 10 pounds 6 more times. That is awesome! You can do this. you ARE doing it even when it feels like you aren't. I promise. :-)
  9. That was a rough time. The surgery went text book according to the surgeon but I woke up with the worst nausea. I was vomiting (air) for about 6 hours post op. They gave me several types of meds to help but told me the more I rest the better I'll feel. They kept me on medication for nausea and pain until about 10-11 the next day. Then I was able to get up and walk around. Did laps and then would fall back asleep. I'm so much better feeling today. Anyone who tries to say this is the "easy" way has lost their minds. [emoji36] definitely harder than I expected. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Just try and tell a waiter or waitress that you want NOTHING to drink. 9 times out of 10 they will bring you a glass of water anyway. I don't drink while eating but have sure noticed this. Kinda funny. Becky
  11. Okay, I have been on here before when I was first "stoned". Got my information, read, read, read some more. I thought I was done after they did lithotripsy and a uteroscopy at the same time. Water Water Water. Had a follow up scan 7 months...guess what they're baa-ack!! Can somebody tell me waht is going on with my body? My stone profile shows no risk of developing stones, yet here they are...not just one but multiple stones on both sides. Is this a result of the band? I have no family history of stones, I have cut 10 grams of protein from my minimum, take no calcium supplements. I want to get to the cause not treat the symptom. My right side continually aches, I feel like crap most of the time. My leg bones(femurs) hurt. I am demoralized, depressed (situational I am sure) over this. BUT I am 63# lighter because of the band. I am at my sweet spot I believe. I feel so lost that something so great has happened to me and something so bad is developing. I drink my water, I know I am getting enough. Has anyone else had this happen to them:scared2:? Any input, info, other stories like mine would be so appreciated. Do I go to my surgeon? My PC physician? My Urologist?Endocrinologist? Nephrologist. Thanks a bunch all for listening to me whine.

One Month Post Lap Band Surgery

Between my surgery date and 1 month post op appt I lost about 10 pounds. I was just starting to eat regular foods. On my one month bandiversary we went to an amusement park and ate a raw carrot. I didnt chew well and slimed like crazy. I have not eaten a raw carrot since, even though i know my lack of chewing caused it. Lol. I was just starting to get my energy level back. J Banded 9/22

    Addicted to carbs....

I track everything on mfp and before input anything in my mouth I ask myself if I want to record it..... I have been able to stay under 10 carbs a day for 3 weeks now and feel pretty good most of the time. If I get tired I drink a little 5 hour energy and it does the trick. The first few days of low carbs were hard, but my doc wanted me to lose 28 pounds in 30 days, so I had to figure out how to do it and cutting carbs has done it for me. I only eat shrimp, egg whites, lunch meats and beef jerky. Pretty boring, but list 13 pounds in 2 weeks :-). I am at 9.5 weeks, sleeved 12/26

    Stalled :(

I have to share that once I limited my sugar grams to less than 25g a day weight just comes off. Slowly but off. I allow myself 50 total sugar grams to account for sugar in Greek yogurt and any milk sugars. I use dannon Greek 80 calorie yogurt and mix it with fage to get tons of Protein. I strive for at least 80g protein a day. I also added strength training so built muscle. this has gotten me too the finish. I lost 110 lbs in 9 months and this change got me the next 25 in 6 more months. I don't worry about fat or other carbs too much. my diet is usually 45-50% fat a day. my losing calories were 1300 a day. I am 5-10 but I think it is best for most people to eat at least 1200 to avoid deficiencies. just my opinion though. good luck.

I made it to my final goal!

Congrats to you! that is so awesome!!!! I'm still 100 lbs out from my goal so I'll be a while but i'm enjoying my weight loss along the way. I haven't weighed this much in over 10 years! My next goal is to weigh under 200 lbs and I have 42 lbs to go for that. I'm hoping to achieve that for my 1 year bandiversary.

    Back to sliders

I'm one month out today (woo hoo!!) but I'm falling into this trap also... I enjoy yogurt and cheese and sliced meats but there are days when solid proteins do not feel good to my stomach. I have never thrown up-- but I have had moments when I wish I could! At times like those I find it is far easier to eat my slider foods. They don't hurt. I do look forward to the day when I can have all the veggies again! I love veggies, and felt like with the band I was completely banned from them. But as I heal- I am struggling with the urge to fall into bad habits that feel good. I know better. And my weight loss has completely stalled for a while (since day 10 to now day 29) I'm trying to do the right things though and not eat what's easy- not be around it ,not bring it in the house. It's helped. I hope I can lose again.
  17. Hi all! First of all, I'd like to say thank you to all who have posted and shared their WL journey. I have been lurking here gleaning as much info as possible. I guess it's time I share! I am 53 years old. With a BMI of 40 and several co-morbidities. I have tended to be a little heavy all of my adult life, but never as extreme as in the last 10 years, in which time I have gained 100 lbs. At this time I have attended 3 seminars.....OK, I am a slow learner. The first one- I thought "oh how extreme!, If I can't control what I eat now, how could I with WLS". And, "My Dr. would never go along with it". And, "I could never afford it!" The second seminar was after much research and a hospitalization over my heart-resulting in my PCP recommending WLS. That is when I discovered that the closest WLSC (one hour away in Southern OR) was not COE rated, which is a requirement of my insurance. The third seminar was a webinar for WLSC 4 hours away, to the south in Chico, CA. I am willing to go the distance for surgery and fills, however they don't have any type of "medically supervised diet, exercise or behaviour modification program" which is a requirement by by insurance plan (GEHA). Six months within the last 12 months I have to have documentation of the "medically supervised" diet and exercise. I saw my PCP at end of November (when he recommended WLS), however hadn't been to see him at all in previous 12 months, so have to start from then. I also saw him in December, so that I could add that to the record, but he really doesn't know what he is supposed to be documenting. He said that if he codes for "obesity" the insurance doesn't pay. I may have to just self-pay for these visits so the insur. will cover surgery. I have seen others refer to the 6 month "medically supervised diet " but never any specifics, like how do I document this. I really am ready for this surgery now, am willing to go through the 6 months of diet, but want to make sure I am doing it right so the Insurance covers! Also, would like to have an actual "program" so that I can feel some progress! Any ideas out there? (Thanks for listening to me babble on!)

    The Stall...

Well, I had an absolute DOH! moment today. My scales were stuck at the same weight for a solid week, right down to the ounce. My BF weighed himself this morning and weighed exactly the same as I did. That couldn't happen, he's probably 10 pounds more than me (he's much taller). We took the batteries out, replaced them, reset the scales and voila!!! I was 2 pounds lighter!!! (He was 8 pounds heavier!) These crappy scales have had me depressed for a week! Make sure to check the batteries in your digital scales, folks! It matters! (This commercial message was brought to you by Diane, your BariatricPal dumbass!! LOL)

    Day 20.

I'm on day 19....I'm so sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Please let us know what doctor says....Hope you are feeling better soon.
  21. Hi, Right now for the first 10 days after surgery just do the best you can. It does take time to get the liquids in. If you are getting Protein drinks in that is wonderful. Each day it will get easier and easier for you. I always say the 1st month is the hardest month you will ever do. It is a all day job, just keep sipping what ever liquids are drinking ALL day long. Hugs, Suzanne

    2 days post op

Hello all I'm new here. I was just sleeved on 10/04. So far I am doing okay. I have a lot of gas pain and am a bit sore. My surgeon wants us to drink 1-1.5 bottles of clear isopure a day and I can't even choke that stuff down without wanting to throw up. What else can I drink to get my protein in? 25. I just got my VSG on 10/23 and my incision sites were doing great until yesterday. It looks like my stomach broke out into hives but only around the sites. Their crazy itchy and I’ve been carefully using hydrocortisone cream around the sites. Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips? thanks!
