    Disgrace

I am so sorry you're going through this. You say you throw up constantly and have 8cc in your band. I fear you're too tight, which ironically can cause weight gain because when the band is too tight you resort to slider foods to eat- which are usually very high fat and calories. I also worry because vomiting can also lead to a slip. I would make an appointment with your surgeon ASAP. Tell him everything going on, about the vomiting and weight gain, and ask that your band be checked. Best wishes to you.
  2. So I'm 23 days post op. DOS I was 241#. I weighed myself on X-Mas & was 225#. Just weighed myself today & I'm 229#. WTH?? I'm on puréed foods & am sticking to my diet & exercising.. Is anyone else having this problem? I thought I would have lost at least 5-6# over the week I didn't weigh in.. But I never thought I would have gained 4#!!! :'(

    Antidepressants & Weight Gain

I take 30 mg of paxil a day for years and I believe it contributed to my weight gain, to a degree. But I am a happier person on paxil and don't ever want to stop it.

    4 weeks with Band Question

I'd agree with a couple posts above...it sounds like you might be a tad too tight as it is right now. I'm 36w5d pregnant and haven't had to have an adjustment...I do have to eat a smaller amount for Breakfast, but a normal (for me) size lunch and dinner, plus a couple Snacks in there too. I've been craving milk, so I'm getting more Protein from milk throughout the day as well. I had decided early on to not worry about weight gain and if I needed an unfill, I'd cross that bridge when I came to it. It's about getting enough nutrients to your baby, BUT as far as "eat an extra 300 calories a day" philosophy...yeah, I haven't done that so much. Still eating what I was eating before, plus some extra milk...and OJ (another craving!) My baby is right on track for how far along I am...not too big or too small. And I've only gained about 15 pounds or so with about 3 weeks to go! I've also been waking up lately at like 3am, hungry! So that's new. Ha! I'll have some milk and a piece of toast and normally that is plenty to make it to breakfast. Good luck, mama!!

    Couch to 5k

Downloaded the app on my phone and started today. Day 1 was simple. Skin around my incisions was sore a bit from the running segments. Plan to stick with it and my 2013 goal is to run a 5k with my daughters, who are both competitive runners and run track. Used to run a lot before a broken foot and a ton of weight gain stopped me. Can't wait for the first race some time in future...wish me luck!
  6. I had surgery on December 6th and I have lost a total of 20 pounds - I stalled at 2 weeks, too - no weight loss (or weight gain) the whole week I started back on solid food...My husband says it is a marathon, not a sprint! RUDE NURSE!

    Gall bladder meds

    Antidepressants & Weight Gain

I have been in Pristque for years and did not affect my weight at all. Zoloft did cause some weight gain. Good luck. Pre Op: 298lb / Surgery Day: 288lb / Week 1: 278lbs / Week 2: 267.5lbs / Week4: 263.7lbs.
  9. Every anti-depressant impacts each person differently. Just because the side effects doesn't list weight gain, it could still happen despite best efforts. Be patient - it takes 4-8 weeks for each medicine to prove (or not prove) itself. One of the reasons I had the VSG was to help control the impact of psych medicines on my weight and general health. It's working!
  10. First off, congrats on being a new mom...second, sounds like you know what you need to do to stay at a healthy weight gain. It may sound like a lot of weight gain right now because you've been losing for so long but the reality is, your probably not going to balloon up to old weight anytime soon. Keep up a light walking workout and watch your food choices.
  11. Was wondering if any of you have been pregnant since the band. My husband wants to have another baby of course I am going to wait longer but we r thinking of trying come fall... How was pregnancy, eating, and weight gain???

    Mad at myself

1.5 pounds is not too shabby for a weeklong vacation. Just think of how much u would've gained had u not been sleeved. I have found that little weight gains come off quickly once I focus on eating right, getting my Water, and working out. It'll come off don't worry. Please don't let a 1.5 gain cloud over the greatness of a cruise. Sent from my iPhone using VST
  14. Good morning ladies.... I am new to the board and have a question regarding opening my band....I am 4 weeks pregnant and was wondering when to have my band opened up. Its pretty tight now and I can mostly only get liquids and Soups in during the early part of the day...after 1 or 2. My band usually relaxes after 5 or 6 so I eat a pretty normal dinner but there are days when its completely uncooperative and I don't get much down. I have never been able to eat much meat and have gotten most of my Protein from shakes, supplements, fish and cheeses. I am very concerned (more like freaking out) about gaining weight but there is a strong possiblity I am carrying multiples so my doctor is very concerned about my diet and protein intake. When did everyone have their band opened and how quickly did you start gaining. I will do what my doctor asks but I am scared of the weight gain. Any helpful tips, ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!!!!

Be Honest- Is Banded Life Hard?

thank you all for continuing to respond. I also truly appreciate all of your honest. Kim- your post popped out at me because I am so scared that I am going to struggle with changing my eating habits also. I'm hoping that my loss of motivation (which I'm assuming will be inevitable sometimes) will somehow be kicked back into gear with the band. I truly feel my loss of motivation comes from me being so hungry that I just don't give a damn, therefore, making my weight loss stop and turn into weight gain... not sure if that makes sense.

    Weight increase

FYI: anitibiotics have been known to put on weight gain because it regulates our hormones, meaning your energy is low so you would have a tendency to eat more. Its very common, and happens to many of us. It could work either way, loss or gain.
  17. I think it's the majority of us pre banders think that. I mean we're all use to failing. And we're going into this without a guarantee that it will work. In my opinion... No weight loss surgery is going to work if we don't change our lifestyle. If we continue to put the same crap in our mouths we can't expect different results. Eventually the weight will come back. I think we just have to look at the lapband as a tool to help us stay on track. It's just a tool, (a very expensive one). Most weight gain or loss is a mental effort. If your addicted to food, as I am and I'm sure many others then that's an addiction that you have to break.... Mentally. I'm going with the lap band because I feel it's a tool that will help me stay on track. As many others too. I've lost the weight before and know what it takes. Deep down under all this fat there is a fit person that loves being at the gym.. And looks at food as energy. I think we all can change to that.. Sorry for the rant... This is just a question I've been battling personally as well

    pain after sex

I'm thankful for the support here. It's amazing how many aspects of our lives weight gain & weight loss effects. You'd think with a hundred pounds gone everything would be great, but there are still challenges everyday, just different ones. Happy New Year everyone.

    All of my December sleevers...

Sleeved 12/27 and weighed 246 that morning at home. Yesterday I weighed 253 so still have hospital weight gain.
  20. My first few weeks were inaccurate as well. I experienced the week 3 stall with a couple pounds of weight gain right in the middle of it, yet my clothes continued to get baggier and my sizes went down. Now, though, a couple months out, I'm running at about a 2k caloric deficit per day and my weight loss is generally steady at an expected 4-5 pounds a week.

    Diet History Sheet

This is like torture remembering diets, weight loss, weight gain, especially when I have been in a perpetual state of yo yo dieting for the last 8 years. I have my appointment with the surgeon on January 7th, I will let you know what he says about my diet history sheets. I will provide you with this information, hopefully it will help so you will have an easier time.
  22. My cycle regulated within two months of surgery. I have endo, not PCOS. I found that my hormones just caused all sorts of issues. I had trouble with Mirena post op because my body didn't react the same way to the hormones and I could not lose weight with it in. I had mine removed. I'd go back to it as an option after this pregnancy, because it works very well for my endo (that's the only reason I take it, surprise pregnancy is not in the cards for me) but that's only because I'm not trying to lose weight any more. So watch the bc choices post op. If you notice that you react differently than before surgery, do not be surprised and be willing to consider other options. I also had the usual bloat and weight gain even after surgery. In fact, I only lost weight during about a ten day period each month. I would stay at one weight for about two weeks, gain a few pounds during my period and then shed any weight I'd lose that month in the final week to ten days of the month. With the exception of two stalls, this was my normal weight loss pattern. I think the hormone issues caused me to lose weight more slowly (just over six pounds a month) but I still reached goal. In my time here (three years registered, three and half including my lurk months) I've seen a huge number of women report improvements in their PCOS and endometriosis after losing a significant amount of weight. Be wary, because there are also a huge number of surprise pregnancies by women as their fertility increases and they weren't prepared with a birth control option! Good luck. It is totally normal to have a wacky cycle for a short time post op, and for some even for several months as your body adjusts to the rapid changes. I've read that our fat cells store hormones and as we lose weight they are released into the body. I'm not sure how true this is, but a number of us experience hormonal fluctuations that do crazy things to us after surgery, until our bodies adjust. ~Cheri

    December 2012 Post Op Group

It is so good to hear from you Simply Southern. Keep your chin up! By now it can only get better! Lisa, I'm so sorry that you are going through all of this! Hopefully your doctor can finally figure everything out for you soon! I too am now struggling with some weight gain. It helps to come on hear and read everyone elses issues, and they are not far from our own. We are all truly blessed to have a brand new lease on life! 2013 will rock for us all!
  24. Actually she clearly said she introduced foods a week early. This is not a good choice for a healing stomach. My comments are hopefully intended to make her think about this poor choice so that she can continue to lose, and not have to deal with weight gain via TPN (the food of choice for leak victims). I broke my leg last week...I can't see the pins doc says are holding the bones together and I'm feeling nifty, so I'm going to enter the pole vaulting contest tomorrow....cuz I'm probably fine right?????? Same thing!
  25. You definitely shouldn't have eaten those! It would've been better if you chewed and spit. I've done it a few times but only with little things, and I've eater a few peanuts and pistachios, but I've stopped that because there is a serious risk for a leak only being two weeks out. It's not about weight gain, it's about your health after healing. Be cautious and if you start feeling intense pain with a fever, contact your doctor right away!
