    Too much fill?

You should be able to get solid foods down when the doctor says it is OK to be back on solids after a fill (for me four days later). You don't want to be so tight that you cannot. If you cannot get solids down after a week call your doctor. You don't want to stay too tight and just wait until your stomach shrinks to get relief.

    introduction

I have been lurking around reading and enjoying all the posts. I was banded on 5/5 by Dr. Boreo in New Jersey. I have lost 38 lbs. even though I don't really feel any restriction. I had 1 fill of 2 cc. on 7/7 but still don't feel any restriction. Going back to see Dr. next week and will probably schedule me for another fill. Congratulations on putting together a great place for bandsters and future bandsters to meet.
  3. Hi Cheri, Your post brings back memories. I was very afraid to have Band to RnY revision before I had it done. Your story is a bit different than mine in that you are only 60 lbs from goal. I was much heavier, which is why it was probably an easier decision for me. That being said, my experience with RnY has been so much better than it ever was with the band. It's hard to believe that a procedure that is so much more invasive has had WAY less complications than the lapband. I am 6 months post op and have had ZERO complications. My 6 month bloodwork just came back and everything is in the normal range. I no longer take Prilosec or Get "stuck". I no longer cough at night and am able to sleep through till morning. The best part...I can actually eat healthy! Vegetables, Steak, chicken, Fruit, etc all go down. I don't need sour cream or condiments to get em down! Here's the deal. In my opinion, the lapband is a quick and simple surgery with a ton of bad side effects and post op complications. RnY is a more complicated surgery, but after the initial healing period (2-4 weeks), things get WAY easier. One word of caution...RnY still requires a ton of effort to lose weight. It is much easier to eat with RnY than the lapband. Like the lapband, gaining weight is possible if you eat the wrong things. The difference with RnY is that healthy foods actually go down (after a few months of healing).

    Why Am I So Hungry?

Yes, I think maybe I'm not eating enough. I mean I'm only a week out and I keep thinking "did I actually have surgery" lol.

    nuts

So I go for followups at my doctors office and im loosing about a pound a week. We are given a calorie equation and if the foods you eat arent under a certain amount they are considered "bad foods" I have calculated all sorts of nuts and they calculate as "unhealthy" I guess due to fat content? Does anyone else eat nuts? What kinds? This.is fairly sad to me since nuts have been a staple for me...and keep me full a little till I can reach actual food
  6. I had surgery 9/19. Close to six weeks post op..lost 39 lbs incl pre op diet. I worry about meeting someone in the future and having loose skin and being embarrassed to become intimate. I don't know how I will look when the weight really starts to drop but I am a bit worried about that.

    Always Feeling Hungry!?!?

You should not eat. No fruit, no veggies. If you are hungry and it is in between eating times then stay hungry. Drink water, but don't eat. it is a bad habit. It could potentially get worse. And fruit is nothing but sugar. You shouldn't eat it at all. Sorry I am being a bit bossy today But I am tired of people struggling and a lot of the people who are one, two, three years out disappear from the board. So I am 1.5 years out, and I am going to keep it real. I am hungry. I mean I just ate a whole chicken breast, and I can feel it digesting and can feel some hunger pangs coming. It is not easy.
  8. I was extremely fortunate Aquameliza, I expected so much more difficulty and breezed through, I started my process early to middle part of December and was banded last week! Some people have to wait months! Good luck on your journey..
  9. I was self-pay, but my husband saw the surgeon pre-op, insurance approved the next day and he had surgery two weeks later. The only test he had was a chest xray and some blood work.

    Complication almost 3 weeks out

After my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I was on full liquids for the first 4 weeks, pureed foods for the next four weeks and then only after week 9 was I transitioned to solid food. Your stomach needs time to heal. The transition to solids can be rough. There is no need to rush it.

    3 mos checking in:-)

I hit 3 months post yesterday. So far I'm pretty happy with the results. I haven't had any stalls. At least none that I know of.. I don't weigh every week. I'm eating regular foods. I can pretty much eat anything. However, I can't each much of it. I'm usually full after about 4 bites. One thing I want to mention is that i have been breaking out in itchy rashes. On my legs, neck, thigh. At first I thought it was an allergic reaction, but now I think it has something to do with the fact that I'm not getting all the Vitamins needed for my body. I no longer drink Protein shakes. And even though I try to eat pretty healthy, I still don't think I'm meeting my nutritional needs. I'll ask my doctor about it at my next appt
  12. I've been off the grid here for a couple weeks with work and bad weather and family here from out of town..but...wanted to check in. Today I weighed in @243. I was sleeved on December 20th and my beginning weight was 302. I feel good..normal I dare say. I've hit two stalls so far and its really a mystery to me why having a treat and stopping the hardcore workouts has got me out of both of them. But...59 lbs in 3 mos and went from size 22/2x shirts down to 16/L shirts.I'm happy with that. This Saturday I'm doing the 5k color run...HUGE deal for me as since having this survey is the first time in my life I've ever been able to run a mile..(I got emotional and goosbumps the first time I made it..lol). So..its bedtime...let me know how you guys are doing;-)

    incisions and stomach hanging

Sandybabe, Shower it will make you feel FANTASTIC just no scrubbing. I was in pain for TWO Weeks I had a pulling like there was no tomorrow. I couldn't drive , I couldn't pick anything up and I couldn't sit at a table with my family to eat. I called the dr. to see if he tied my port to my rib cage:cursing:. He said that he had to sew it to my abdominal muscle so it stays in place and that is the pulling sensation and as my abs get stronger the pain will be less. I had my surgery on 11/18 this is my first week of feelin FANTASTIC. I can tell you I did alot of stretching in a hot shower. It helped relax my muscles and it helped remove some of the gas. I brought a pillow with me everywhere I went. I also had a microwavable heat pad and I kept that on my port side and that helped alot with the pain.:wink2: I still hold my port side when laughing or coughing!!! It gets better I promise ...big hugs:smile2:

    Fast Track Seminar Tomorrow!

How fast is fast track at your center? I was 6 weeks because of a slow shrink and insurance company who didn't clearly articulate policy to doctors office.

  17. I will be 5 weeks post-op tomorrow. I take my Vitamins and I have slowly been increasing my calories and Protein intake. I went from not being able to eat 200 calories a day a week ago to now I can do 600-700 and my protein went up as well...40-60grams. I know this is still not enough but I am working on it. Well I'm pretty sure it's because of my low calorie and protein intake but I just need some reassurance but my energy is soooooooo low. My doctor cleared me to workout and eat whatever I wAnt as long as I can tolerate it. I have been eating healthy healthy healthy. I will never go back to junk food I'm just feeling down because I can't seem to get myself to get up and do stuff! Last week I had to days where I had some energy and I did an hour of dance central on both days! It felt great!!! I want to keep working out but I'm so tired! Please reassure me this too shall pass. It's encouraging to hear your stories and advice. Thanks in advance!

    waiting for 2/12

So I've been waiting for a surgery date for what seems like YEARS, and I finally received one a week ago February 12+h. Now, I'm in such anticipation that its all I can think off. My mom had her sleeve done Nov.14th she is down 65 lbs so so PROUD of her. I hope that the 12+h hurries up and arrives!
  20. Yes, the program I'm in required 4 weekly "healthy lifestyle" classes and 4 "know your bypass" classes. I learned a ton of helpful info, plus made some friends along the way. We did 1 new step for success each week. One week it was simply writing down absolutely everything we ate or drank. Another week we worked on physical activity or meal planning or whatever.
  21. It's probably just swelling. did you also have a hernia repair? I had a hernia repair and everything felt like it got stuck in my chest area for a few seconds for about the first two weeks...........now it all seems back to normal. I can eat all foods now and the only difference is I can only eat tiny amounts..........which is GREAT! it's exactly what I wanted and needed! Good luck to you.

    PB vs Vomit

R- I agree with the explainations above, but I will say that sometimes 'burp' seems kind of a mild discription for what happens. Last week I had some Pasta, which is usually ok, but this didn't have enough sauce on it so it was really dry, and the PB that took place was a bit violent with my tummy trying to get rid of it. No stomach acid, but it was a little painful. Is this what you are talking about? Either way, if it's happening alot, make sure to take to your doc. Too much can cause slippage and/or erosion.
  24. I had my surgery May 14, 2014. Lately I feel as though I am fitting in less food than I was before, and my desire to eat is even less. Two weeks ago I feel as though my desire was greater as well as my intake. Lately I feel like I'm eating less and I'm wanting it even less. I wouldn't be too concerned with it except I feel dizzy from time to time and I'm thinking it could be low blood sugar? Has anyone else had this happen?

    I've Got A Surgery Date!

My recovery was easier than I expected. I was only in pain for 2 days after my surgery. The pain I felt was from the trapped CO2 gas in my shoulder. I also had body aches (kinda like the ones you get when you have the flu). But all of that went away by the 3rd day. It was like I woke up feeling reborn, lol. Another thing that caused discomfort was the fact that I could not empty my bladder completely. I always get like this after surgery. It's a condition known as postoperative urinary retention. I had trouble completely emptying my bladder for about 5-7 days. It was uncomfortable because, for days, I constantly felt the urge to urinate. I was able to urinate a bit here and there, but not as much as I wanted to. The feeling wasn't painful, it was just annoying, lol. My incisions barely hurt at all. They were only slightly tender. My wounds were completely closed in about 4 weeks. The only trouble I had once I got home was getting in all my fluids. It was hard because I was not hungry at all, and I'm a natural gulper; it's impossible to gulp anything because your stomach is swollen from the surgery. I was unable to drink a lot for about 3 weeks. It was hard and a bit frustrating, but definitely worth it. You have to sip everything for several weeks. The reason it was so hard for me is because I get impatient and I sometimes forget to sip because I get easily distracted, lol. Getting in your fluids can be a bit painful if you drink too fast or gulp. It feels like the liquid is hard to get down. It can be uncomfortable, but it's manageable. Just remember to take small, frequent sips. You'll do fine. I don't know if anyone warned you about the CO2 gas pain. Some people experience it, some people don't. As for me, lord have mercy... When I came out of surgery, I felt like I was having a hard time breathing; it felt like something was trapped in my sternum. The nurse reassured me that it was just trapped gas, and within about 2 minutes, I was asleep again. When I woke back up, the pain in my sternum was gone. A few hours later, I started to feel the dreaded gas pain in my left shoulder. The gas pain was the absolute hardest part of this whole thing. It felt as if someone hit my arm with a hammer as hard as they could. The liquid Hydrocodone was not touching the pain, so I requested Dilaudid. The nurse didn't want to give me any, so then my request became a demand. She tried saying that the Dilaudid wouldn't help my pain, but little did she know, I've had 3 kidney stones; if Dilaudid can help that much pain, then I know it can help any pain. She finally gave me the Dilaudid, and sure enough, it took the edge off. It didn't make the pain go away completely, but it helped enough for me to be able to sleep. My nurse kept telling me to walk to get rid of the pain. I had already walked several times that day, and since it was after midnight, I wanted to sleep. Don't get me wrong, walking DOES help the gas pain. You can be in so much pain from the trapped gas, and once you start walking, the pain goes away within seconds. But laying down makes the pain come back full force. Some people can lay at an incline and have no pain. As for me, I couldn't lay flat or lay at an incline. I was only able to sit up at a 90 degree angle. But, the Dilaudid did help, and I eventually fell asleep. The next day in recovery, the gas pain in my shoulder was almost gone. It was only slightly lingering discomfort (not enough to cause a fuss). They took my tube out (it didn't hurt), and I was released from the hospital. When I got home, I laid down to sleep. When I woke up, I had body aches. I felt like I had been beaten up in an alley somewhere. So I drank some Water and broth, took a B12 Vitamin, and went back to sleep. When I woke up the next day, the body aches were completely gone. The aches are known as postoperative muscle pain. They make you feel icky, but they go away after you rest. I know it sounds miserable, but only because I explained in detail. In the long run, all of this was 100% worth it. Just imagine yourself being sick for 1-3 days. Most people don't have much discomfort after a few days. I've had 6 surgeries from age 16 - 25. Having my gallbladder removed and a breast reduction were harder than my WLS. I was surprised by how easy this was, especially since it's a pretty serious procedure.
