  1. CONGRATULATIONS! What a great NSV!

I'm eating like a normal person

It is an NSV! Celebrate!! Went out to eat last night to a BBQ joint. I ordered the sliders appetizer, no buns. When the plate arrived with three "dollops" of meat I thought maybe I should have ordered a side too. Nope, half of it was left on my plate and I was full. Funny thing was when my friend apologized for eating her bun in front of me. It's the second time that has happened. Oddly enough I don't feel deprived like I have in the past so I hadn't even thought about it. Weird how these surgeries work on your brain just a little.

    Saw an Ex-boyfriend Yesterday

Remember that you are now strong is he is now jealous! Congrats on a wonderful NSV.
  4. great job you will have many more moments in the next few months. getting into jeans without a struggle was one of my first nsv's. keep on doing what you are doing...
  5. Big NSV today. I had to take my daughter shopping at Old Navy…it’s back to school time and she needed school clothes, so since there was a sale there on school clothes, and I had a ton of rewards saved up, I managed to get all of her back-to-school clothes for $2. But that’s not the best part. While we were there, I looked over the women’s clothes. Now, I haven’t shopped in a regular-size store…probably since I was a teenager. So that’s quite a while. I have bought from Old Navy, but only from their plus-size (online only) store. But while I was looking at their clothes, I started thinking hmm…that looks like it might fit. And it DID! I bought a few shirts and a pair of compression capri. All size XL from the regular store (last things I bought for myself from Old Navy were 3x from the plus store). So two active-wear tank tops, one pair of capri and two t-shirts. I can not believe how good it feels to shop in a store and not have to slink to the plus-size section. I don’t CARE that I’m still in an XL…it’s a regular XL instead of 2x, 3x, etc. And it feels good.
  6. Well, I had an interesting experience at work tonight. I work in a movie theatre and tonight I was in concessions. I've recently reached onederland, and have been told by multiple people that I don't look like I weigh that much (I think it's because my top half is so much smaller than my thunder thighs). This is a male customer, I'd say mid-20s. Anyways, here's the conversation... I'll warn ya, it's a long one lol. Me: Hello, how can I help you today? Customer: Yes, what does your medium drink look like? Me: *I show him the medium* Customer: Sheesh, that's massive. Okay, how about the small? Me: *I show him the small* Customer: Yeah, that'll do. Though that small is anyone else's large. It's probably why America is so fat. Me: Yeah, the sizes are a bit ridiculous. Before we were bought out, the old medium was the size of the new small. Customer: It's still way too big. I'm from Canada and I've never seen so many massive people. (Now, I typically don't spout off my weight loss to random people, only to friends and family who ask. I just felt the need to call this guy out...) Me: Yeah, I've lost about 90 pounds so I kind of get what you're saying. Customer: Oh, good for you! You're helping to solve America's weight problem. I'm from Canada, so I'm not used to seeing so many fat people. That was pretty much it. Now, I did my research and it seems that, yes, one in three American adults are obese. BUT, one in four Canadian adults are, too. I'm not sure where he was living, but it seems like the country as a whole isn't too far behind. I was pretty speechless after the backwards compliment. Is it an NSV that someone felt comfortable enough to talk to me about "the horrors of obesity" as if I was, dare I say, normal-sized? I'm inclined to believe that if I was still at my previous weight, this customer would either A) not have come to my register, since there were two other cashiers at the time, or B ) not have mentioned this at all. He seemed very high and mighty, so maybe there's a third option of C) still would have talked about it, but it probably would have turned into an impromptu lecture about my "evil, gluttonous ways." He didn't even look sheepish after I told him I was a former fatty. Apparently, this guy was all about Canada. I went up to the box office to fill some paperwork out, and I mentioned this guy. The person up there was like, "Did he have long, blonde hair? Did he mention he was from Canada?" Apparently, when she asked him for his ID to see an R-rated movie, he said, "Seriously? I'm from Canada. Where's YOUR ID?" Good times were had. P.S. No disrespect to you Canadian sleevers. I know not all are like this.

    NSV!

Have been married 22 years. For a while when I was at my highest weight, my rings were too snug and then when I bit gw, they were way too loose. I mentioned to my daughter that one of my acquaintances had her rings resized after wls. She talked to my husband... My husband surprised me with resized rings that actually fit. I've dropped two ring sizes!

    A very personal NSV..

As I was reading your post, I'm thinking "she should totally make a quilt out of the bigger size ones when they become too big." Great minds... Congrats on the NSV, lets me know I can also reach my list of personal NSV's I have in my head.

    A very personal NSV..

    yesyesyes! love this nsv!!
  10. I have been going to concerts since I was eleven when my dad took me to see the Rolling Stones. Since then I have been to close to a hundred big name shows and about three dozen live local shows. Every show I have ever been to I have bought a shirt and they were a huge part of my wardrobe; I took very good care of them, made them look cool with jeans, shorts, little skirts, tights, boots, flats, heels, scarves, cardigans, blazers, etc. Obviously the ones I bought when I was much younger (early teens) didn't fit for very long but then in the last three years, none of them fit well. It felt as if a piece of my identity grew too small for me and it made me sad. I sealed them up, boxed them up and stored them away. Last night as I was pulling out the last of my Halloween goodies, locating Thanksgiving/Christmas "stuff", I decided I'd bring the box of concert T's in to see if any of them would fit. All but a dozen or so looked good. Not just fit but look good. I was stoked! And I know that once they get too big, I'm going to make a quilt for my King Size bed out of them! Then I'll start collecting ones in a size that I can strut until the threads wear out.
  11. Congratulations! Well done! Thank you for the inspiration! You know I am finding more joy in the nsv's than the number on the scale. Perhaps it doesn't feel so momentous since you've really been at goal for some time now. Anyway, I feel so proud and happy for you and I hope 2014 is our best year yet!

    6 months post-op update

Well it has been three months since my last blog (6 months from surgery) and I'm happy to say I've lost another 30 lbs for a total of 90 lbs lost!! Current weight- 274. Whoo-hoo!! I think this is the first time ever that I've lost weight during the holidays. I've been averaging a loss of 10 lbs a month. Very happy with that. I've been getting very small fills. In fact I've only got 3 cc's in my 10 cc band. I still don't have alot of restriction but I count my calories, exercise and follow the rules. We've had a very cold winter so instead of doing my walking outside I've been doing low impact cardio workouts. My two favorite being Shapely Girl and the Biggest Loser Power Walk. I'm looking forward to warm weather and today I signed up for the Blue and You fitness challenge. This is something I did last year and it's basically just making a commitment to exercise 3 days a week for at least 30 minutes. Now what I'm really excited about is that I signed up for my first 5K!! It is May 3rd and I have the option to walk but I would love to run as much as possible. I know I can easily walk 3 miles but I haven't even attempted to run. I have wanted to try running but I don't want anyone seeing me. I know this is something I need to get over but when I go to the walking trails the only people I see running are already really fit and skinny. Ugh!! Well time to get over it because starting this week (wait it's snowing) ok next week I'm going to start training for this 5K. So besides all that my band seems to being doing well. I have had some pain in my left shoulder for about 3 months now. At first I thought I had injured it but then I realized that the way the pain would come and go, hurt when I would bend over for any length of time (cleaning) and when first laying down in bed that it seemed to be a nerve issue. I did some research and found that it is not uncommon for bandsters to have this pain. It is caused by a nerve- phrenic nerve- that runs through the diaphragm. It hurts everyday but luckily not ALL day so I can handle that. Other than that I haven't had any problems really. There is nothing I have found that I can't eat (but alot I choose not to!!) Oh yeah, I had a pretty sweet NSV this morning. I was chatting with a co-worker this morning and looked down and realized that I had my legs crossed. Wow! It's been a long time since I could do that.

    The Best NSV!!!

I have lost almost 70 pounds now... I went from a 26 to a loose 16 now... I still was not seeing it... But..... This morning, as I was hugging my daughter, she said Mommy, you may not see it but look, she said I could never get my arms all the way around you. Now not only can I get them around you but look I can grab my wrist too!! With tears I said, WOW, I guess I have lost some... & what a great way to have finally opened my eyes to see it but with a great big hug from my daughter!!!! I do not think there will be another NSV that can top that one (for me anyway)

A Bit of a Silly NSV

A Bit of a Silly NSV

DEFINITELY an NSV, and not at all a silly one! I love this!
  16. I just realized I can now take off my wedding ring without using Windex! Lol I had to use Windex to get It off before my surgery on Halloween.
  17. Museum-Mama

There is a toddler in my pants!

Bahahahhaha!!! Thats hilarious! What a great NSV. Thank you for sharing this.
  18. YAY! I'm 6 weeks post-op today and I can wear my size 16 jeans that I haven't fit into in probably 4-5 years!!! I am so happy with my progress and my doctor said he is impressed also because he was only expecting me to have lost 5-6 pounds from my 2 week check-up, but I lost 11! Some people are losing faster than me, but hey, as long as that scale is going down, I'm okay with any loss! I'm now released from all restrictions and I can go to the gym and start lifting and toning and doing more than just walking nowhere on that dang treadmill! Another NSV for me lately is that I can walk up 2 flights of stairs and not get winded! Before I would try to walk up 2 flights at once and be huffing and puffing and feeling like an elephant was standing on my chest, not to mention my knees and legs hurting and feeling like spaghetti. Y'all have a great weekend! My family and I are all going fishing on Sunday so hopefully we'll catch something other than a sunburn!

    Junior & Misses Clothing

I totally agree with rmom, but if you're just out of Lane Bryant, you may want to try the 14W for that little extra give. Silhouettes even has a 12W, which also provide a little extra with style. Congratulations on your NSV.
  23. Oh, this made me chuckle! Good NSV!

I wouldn't mind so much if......

You need to look back and reflect on how much weight you gained when you did have all those Snacks. This year reward yourself with a treat of a new outfit, manicure or a facial. Change your mindset from not loosing to not gaining and count that as a reward. Also take out the measuring tape and see if your body changed and shrunk. Usually the Nsv are just as great to Celebrate as the LBs dropping. Embrace your new lifestyle, your doing great!!

    The Skinny on NSGs

So I finally got a chance to sit down and watch my DVRed episode of The Biggest Loser finale. I have to say, for a show that promotes losing weight and getting in shape, they make you sit in front of the TV for an awfully long time to find out who won. That aside, those contestants are damn motivational. Seriously, Mike lost over 200 lbs in 6 months, and that 64 year old guy who won the at home prize lost nearly as much and he was only on the Ranch for 2 weeks. If these guys can do it without surgery, surely I can be as successful with the help of my new, super, duper band. Personally, I wanted Tara to win. I think because I related the most to her. Sure, she’s a little younger than me, but only by 4 years. We’re still both in our twenties—the prime of our lives. She’s my height and was close to my weight when she started out—her just under 300lbs and me just over. She never fell below the dreaded yellow line and she won challenge after challenge. She was truly a force to be reckoned with. I hope that I can be half as successful as she has been. And speaking of the challenges, I come to the real point of this blog. By week 11, the remaining contestants were all confronted with a true test of how far they’d come in less than 3 months—they ran a half-marathon. Then, 2 months later they were faced with a doubly difficult challenge—a full marathon. Every remaining player completed a full 26.2 miles, even Ron—the 54 year old father with a multitude of health problems. If they can accomplish such a feat, in such a short time, I certainly can as well. And so I will. I have set a goal for myself. We all look for those NSVs that keep us motivated, and so I am setting myself a NSG—non scale goal. I am going to run a half marathon. A little bit of research on my part has informed me that there is one in Queens on September 20th and another in the Hamptons on September 26th. I will be at one of those two races and I will make it to the finish line.
