    soft diet/ puree stage 3

"Stage 3" means different things to different patients, if it means anything at all. Puree, on the other hand, has a consistent meaning. I pureed every good thing. EVERY meat that tasted good with every great seasoning or sauce. If you can imagine it, I pureed it, and it was great! I didn't do pictures because back then we didn't photograph food, we ate it. Mongolian BBQ was terrific, as were Thai foods. Italian sauces added a great level to flavors. Even BBQ was a great flavor. If it was a favorite to binge on pre-op it was a wonderful post-op flavoring. Want to know what I was eating? Imagine your favorites in your mind... that's what I was eating. Hope this helps. Good luck, Tek

    Grazing, is this normal?

Oh this is SO interesting to me! I graze on Mondays and always allow myself extra leeway. It's far and away my worst eating day of the week but I have learned to allow myself this and then track track track Tuesday - Friday. Interesting.
  3. can I see pictures of what yall eat
  4. Hi Everyone, I have been getting a ton of Migraines during my 2 week pre op diet. Is this typical for other migraine sufferers? I wonder if I am missing something essential in my diet triggering them, and am curious if anyone found the missing link. Overall I have done well with the pre op diet, but these migraines are killing me.

    Grazing, is this normal?

I graze all day too. Since the beginning. Like @Ms.SSS said it's the total calories at the end of the day. For example, today I had 3 that's it dark chocolate truffles, later I had 100g watermelon, an hour or so later I had a cup of grapes. If i graze on the heavy side during the day, I will skip dinner or eat light low calorie filling snack instead... Etc. I give myself a lot of leeway, I go by average monthly calories so when if I go over average calories one week, I know I can make up for it the week after. I don't think it's a problem unless you are eating due to emotion and/or eating out of boredom. Even then, if one tracks, it makes one aware and helps keep the weight from creeping back while trying to figuring out things emotionally.
  6. I just had my gastric sleeve on 2/8/23 and I wish I would have known how good I would feel. I was so scared. Starting on day 3 I just keep feeling a sense of happiness that is amazing! I feel really good- no restriction with fluids, still on clear liquid. I’ve had no issues, no vomiting, no heartburn, no issues drinking or getting my fluids and protein in, I feel so freaking good, so happy, it’s as if the surgery just instantly reset my hormones LOL! Not one shred of buyers remorse. I hope you all have an easy recovery with no pain or issues just as I am having.

    Pain after 4 weeks

Hello has your pain subsided? I’m 3 weeks out and still having so much pain in my abdomen
  8. I’m stalling right now too. Trying to ignore it and push through. The nice thing about this surgery is when a stall hits we have the confidence to know if we stick to our dr’s plan for it we know something going to give and we will start losing again. Not fun when we are in one but I find it so much less stressful than weight loss stalks prior to surgery. I’m a little over two months out and also active. My team doesn’t have us focus on calories on protein and hydration though from tracking on lose it i know I am generally consuming between 600-750 total calories and burning 500 in my dedicated workout time with my active calories burned on my Apple Watch barely ever finishing under 950. I think most of the weight loss we see in these early months is more closely a result of the restriction and absence of gherlin than anything. Also important to remember caloric deficit for pounds loss is itself a very imprecise and variable. Follow the instructions of your team and you’ll be through this before you know it.
  9. I am one week post op and head hunger has been driving me crazy. Been watching a lot of TV and every time I see a commercial for fast food or something it makes me want to eat.
  10. Hi everyone, I had my gastric sleeve on 2/9 and have not really been doing to well and was hoping to get some feedback. I ended up back in the er yesterday after having terrible chest pain after attempting to swallow my omeprazole. It got stuck twice 🤦‍♀️ ct scan showed a hiatal hernia that is inflamed from surgery and I was severely dehydrated. I now have to crush all my meds given fluids but I started having terrible liquid diarrhea on day 3 post op. I will literally have some water and immediately have liquid green uncontrollable diarrhea. I told the doctors about it but they were not concerned. I feel dizzy and weak struggling on liquid intake. Does this diarrhea end? I feel like I need something to solidify this like a bite of toast or something but only on clear liquids until my post op appointment tomorrow but I’m miserable. I was supposed to return to work today and unable to as I feel like I’m going to faint. I have called my doctor but I am told all of this is normal and I’m feeling discouraged. Any and all advice is appreciated! Thanks, Jenny
  11. I’ve written here in the last weeks how I’ve really been lacking energy. Recently I’ve been noticing my mind (which is most definitely exhausted) either over estimating how tired my body is or how much effort something will take me … for instance like a short half mile walk to the pharmacy after a grueling day. It’s like my head is saying on repeat you’re too tired to do this even as I walk, but as I check in with my body walking, I realize my body is just fine, feels good even. I imagine this is in part the balance of having lost 60+ lbs since first visiting my surgeon for a consult last august. I’m alittle over 2 months post sleeve. I also wonder if any of mental exhaustion has to do with the effect of the restriction on my adhd. Anyone else experience a similar mind body disconnect?
  12. As everyone has said stick to your plan and try not to compare yourself to others. All surgeons have different plans, and you will see the most weight loss from those that were on a liquid diet for longer periods. For example, my sister had the sleeve done in April and I in November, her weight loss is higher than mine at 3 months post op even though she was 215 at the time of surgery and I was 268, but she was on liquids for a full month, pureed for 2 weeks and softs for 2 weeks. I was allowed pureed food 10 days post op. We can see how much weight someone has lost but everyone's journey is different. Know that if you do what you are supposed to be doing and put the effort in, you will lose the weight.
  13. I’m scheduled 2/27. Also have 3 kids, etc. very busy. Day 2 of the pre-op mostly liquid diet. Ugh. But holding on to the fact the results are worth it

Hair loss and hair dye and hair cuts.

Hi I'm in my pre op stage I have two weeks to my surgery date and I decided to cut off all my hair so I won't go through the hair loss. I hope everything went well for you but you should try kaleidoscope miracle drop it works with hair loss. Sent from my moto g power (2022) using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. What I did was I mainly focused on making sure I got my fluids in. I started my pre-surgery diet 14 days prior, with 3 shakes if I could remember to get them all in and 1 sensible meal (they gave me a list of approved foods) but mainly focused on water or protein waters (collagen peptides). The main reason and idea behind the diet is to help your liver use up its stores of glucagon and fat, so when you go in for surgery your liver will be nice, healthy, and tight tissue instead of being a bit on the softer side which can cause issues not only with visual fields but bleeding if the liver is not tight enough. Not that this is usually too big of an issue but the better you can do pre-surgery the easier the surgery and better recovery will be. As much of a challenge as pre-surgery diet is, post surgery can be just as challenging. I had surgery on February 6th 2023 and it's been a struggle finding a rhythm to my "eating" which is still mainly liquids. Good luck 🤞

  17. Hi from the multiple videos I have watched the first thing you don't want to do is get on the scale after 2 weeks after surgery. Weigh yourself every month because there will be stalls in between. Don't regret the surgery it will work out for you. Try to watch more videos to get inspired. 18. if you've been following your clinic's recommendations, then it's likely water retention from the IV fluids. That's basically salt water, and a lot of people retain that. There are some people on here who've even weighed 10 lbs more when they left the hospital than when they arrived! It can take a week or occasionally longer to work its way out of your system. stick to your plan and the weight will come off. Everyone is different due to different factors, many of which you have little to no control over (like age, gender, starting BMI, metabolic level, how much weight you lost prior to surgery, etc). The two things you DO have control over is how closely you stick to your plan and your activity level. If you do well with those, the weight will come off, whether fast or slow. also, the 20 lb loss you said you think you should have lost in the first two weeks - banish that thought. If you started out at 600+ lbs, then yes - maybe - but for us more "normal" WLS patients, losing 20 lbs in two weeks just doesn't happen. Most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first MONTH. Yes of course you will find people who've lost more or less than that the first month, but they're outliers. You're probably doing just fine. Give it more time and remember to stick to your plan! I thought i was a terribly slow loser - and I WAS a bit behind others with similar statistics (starting weight, etc), but I ended up losing over 200 lbs.
  19. Many people on here have said they are weighing heavier after their surgery and say its because they are pumped full of water to hydrate them for the weeks after when its tough to drink for many. So you are really lucky that you have no issues there. Water can weigh heavy so just give it time and this will pass! You feel like you are failing., Please don't. How many calories a day are you logging ? If you could have compared yourself to me at the same stage, I was lucky to get in 300 a day. I was so ill. My body was hanging onto every calorie it could get hold of. People were racing ahead of me BUT, in the end it didn't matter, as I healed my weight dropped. I got to where I am now happy with myself. Listen to the nurse, give yourself 6 months to a year to do this. Its not magic. You have to put lots of effort in to get to the weight you desire. You may also be in a early version of the dreaded 3 week stall. Hang in there and keep away from the scales if you can.

    February 2023 surgery dates!

I am one week post op and still have no interest in food. I really have to work at getting the protein in. I go for my first follow up today so I am hoping to go to the pureed stage.

    Binge Eating Before Surgery

My surgery is in 2 weeks I have done that. I binge eat all my favorite foods and before my liquid diet starts today I ate a big platter of rice and jerk chicken and I enjoyed every minute of it. I only need to get my mind serious about this liquid diet. It's hard Sent from my moto g power (2022) using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. My doctor said I was at the perfect weight for surgery so I didn't need to do a liquid diet. Now I spoke to my nutritionist, she said I have to be on a liquid diet since I gained 2 pounds. But I still wanna eat wat I want but in smaller portions. Is there any advice someone can give me so I can stick to this liquid diet for 2 weeks before my surgery 3/1. PLEASE HELP ME [emoji24][emoji24] Sent from my moto g power (2022) using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. Hi all! I’m a new member of the group - I hope you’re all well! I had gastric sleeve surgery on 31st January 2023, after losing 13lbs on the pre-op diet. On the morning of my surgery, I weighed 281lbs. I lost no weight in the first week even though I was drinking my required water intake and having between 60-80g of protein a day. Today is two weeks post op. I’m officially allowed to move onto purées and so first thing this morning, I weighed myself and I’ve only lost 4lbs?? I try not to compare myself to others, but I’m so disheartened and even low key regret having the surgery now. I keep seeing people reporting a stone weight loss in a week, 12 lbs a week, 8 lbs the second week etc and so I assumed this would be the same for me. I’ve been very strict with my post op diet and making sure to get in at least 30 mins of movement a day. I’ve typically been consuming protein shakes, water, protein yogurt, tomato soups and the odd sugar-free/fat free children’s ice cream lolly. I feel like I’m doing something wrong, and feel like a bit of a failure. I feel like my body is actively working against me. I spoke to my bariatric nurse who just said ‘you’re still healing, give it time’, but I don’t know if it’s just an excuse.

    Calories vs. Net Calories

Yep, stall. They can last 1-3 weeks. Check with your dietician about your caloric needs especially with the activity you’re doing. Also is your surgeon aware of how much activity you are doing? All plans are different but it seems a little too much this soon post surgery. I was advised gentle walks to begin & not to start more active exercise until the second month but that was my surgeon.
  25. So sorry you are experiencing this though some of what you’ve mentioned can happen. It’s not uncommon to struggle with purées to begin & will go back a stage for a week or so. You’ve had a pretty major surgery & your tummy is healing & we heal at our own pace so you may need longer on each stage. Your tummy can be very sensitive to lots of flavours & textures for a while, causing you to bring up what you ate or be nauseous. So it can be quite a bit of trial & error to begin before you are further a long in the healing process. Are you taking multivitamins yet? Many can make you feel nauseous & cause yiu to vomit. Ensure you take the. After you’ve eaten or with your last sip. Try a different brand, formulation or try swapping to gummies or patches. Try warming your water (room temp or more) as many of us find warm drinks more soothing than cool or cold. Ensure you are sipping/eating slowly & are keeping the sip/bite small. Sometimes further thinning out purées can make them easier to tolerate. Add additional gravies or stock to your purées or milk to your yoghurt so they’re more runny than dollop like. But it is a good idea to go ahead with the endoscopy to ensure nothing else is happening. And maybe try a stronger dose PPI.
