    Vitamin D Deficient

I researched it a little and was surprised to find out that the great majority of overweight people are deficient in vitamin D. The fat cells actually absorb the vitamin, preventing the body using it and processing it. My doctor actually gave me a prescription for a once a week pill to take - or said I could take an otc daily dose of vitamin D. I opted for the once a week - which was covered by my prescription plan. My surgery is in 8 days, and they did check my levels again last week, but honestly, I took the pill a few times and never really stuck to taking it every week as recommended. I was really close, though. They told me they like you at 130, and I was at 128. (Probably b/c I hate sunscreen!) So I didn't really feel the urgency of importance. If I was below 100, maybe I'd have been more concerned. But kind of felt like, really? let me sit outside for 10 minutes and take the test again. hahaha! Honestly, though, I'm not really sure of the benefits of it. So previous answer from NoEscape21 was enlightening! Thanks!!

    Hiccups and sweating

Yes to hiccups, also when I have eaten enough! I am 10 months postop and actually I consider I have overeaten once I start hiccuping. I prefer to stop before they arrive. Your sweating is possibly related to vagus nerve stimulation.

    Hunger pains

I am 10 weeks post op. I never lost my hunger but this last few days the hunger pains have been really intense. So much so that before a meal my stomach hurts because of hunger, a bad pain not just rumbling. Then the hunger returns less than an hour after eating. I don't drink with meals and I eat my protein. I tried taking tums to help and it helped a little but it's still there. I'm getting 700/900 cal and exercising daily. Does anyone have any suggestions? Yesterday I felt persistently hungry all day even though I ate 1000 cal.
  4. I had one of these for dinner last night, it was GREAT!:hungry: They come four to a box, in the frozen section. I thawed one out in the microwave, then cooked it in a non-stick skillet. Took less then 10 minutes total. I toasted a wheat english-muffin and used that for a bun, with a little light mayo and ginger spread(also from TJs). It was sooooo good, and a lot more juicy then I would have thought. It had a hint of citrus, and some heat but not a lot. The nutritional info - each patty has 110 calories, 30 of them from fat. It has 3g fat, 1 of those is sat fat, no trans fat. 55mg of Cholesterol, 270mg of sodium. Total carbs of 4g, 1g of Fiber. And 15g of Protein. I don't have the ingredients here with me, but TJs is usually pretty good on what it puts in things.
  5. I was very sick with the Flu for 2 weeks which landed me in the ER with the most horrific pain I'd ever experienced in my life. After 2 days in the ER, they did a Barium Swallow and sure enough my band had slipped half way down my stomach. Mine was stitched in place in my original surgery on 2/5/09. I've followed Dr. 's orders since the beginning and have had great success. I underwent surgery on 9/21/10 to reposition the band. The only thing I would do differently now...when I came down with the Flu and started vomitting...I would go straight to the Dr. to have my band unfilled until I'm well again. I thought I was invicible. Band Slips can happen even if your doing everything right.

    Starting Over

Stephanie; We are in t he same boat. I had my lap band a year ago May - lost 65 lbs - had some life interfere and the old habits started coming back - I want so badly to start over - not sure I know how - please keep in touch - maybe together we can do it. I have joined a wellness center with a pool and am trying to go every morning - I have so much arthritis (two knees, one hip, I am fused from T-10 all the way down) so the Water is so good in many ways - but it is also exercise - I'll be watching for you CraftLady 77

    Time between consult and surgery

It totally depends on your doctor and insurance. You can skip the 6-7 month supervision period if you have already done something like that in the past. I tried several diets and went to Quick Weight Loss and did a medically supervised diet for about 18 months - both programs involved tons of pills, they worked but as soon as I quit taking the pills my weight gradually went back up. Again, I believe because I had already tried and failed, I did not have to do the typical 6-7 months supervision. My timeline is as follows: April 11 - Initial consult (blood work, vitals, ekg, urine, respriratory) April 13 - Psych eval April 20 - Package went to BCBS April 23 - BCBS Approved May 1 - Surgery Scheduled (long waiting list, doctor's vacation) June 4 - Preop Appointment June 19 - Happy Band Day! So, had I not chosen a popular doctor who will be on an extended vacation I could have gotten my band on May 17th. I look at the delay as a blessing in disquise because it gives you the opportunity to go through the range of emotions associated with such a drastic life change. I was upset about it at first - because I expected to have the surgery a whole month before I actually will, but again I am still going through many emotional changes right now and I know that this delay is necessary. Good luck to you...you are in good company!
  8. I get plain hungry... I have to feed my tummy every 3 hours or so. I feed it small amounts of things I can eat. I have a protein shake for breakfast at 6:30 am. At 10:00 am it's break time at work and I have a snack like sliced ham & mustard, or Tuna salad. At 1:00 pm I have lunch, one of these... Chili, steamed shrimp, Spagetti meat sauce (no spaghetti), or baked Chicken. 4:00 pm break time, I have a protein bar. By the time I get home after my work out at the fittness center..I'm really hungry. And usually have one of the same items as I have for lunch and a SF pudding or Yogurt after dinner. YES I get HUNGRY...it didn't go away for me.
  9. Sooooo perfect for me! I have been searching for days about cheating, how much my sleeve can hold, my obsession with "no sugar added" fudgesicles (I can eat 10 a day if I'm not mindful-extra 400 calories at 5 weeks out). Last night I promised myself I would wake up determined today...and here you were!!!! Bless you! ❤

    October 12th surgery

The countdown is on! I have pre-op on Thurs 10/8 and I can't wait for the surgery on Monday 10/12. I have done much better on pre-op diet that I thought I would. Can't wait!

    October 12th surgery

Hi, I'm having the sleeve 10/14.
  12. I was banded on 12/3/07 and have lost 20 lbs so far, gaining one pound back. I did my 10 days pre-op with liquids, and only 1 1/2 weeks after, then on to soft foods, and now anything. I feel like I'm eating to much. I can eat at least 1 cup of food. My 1st fill is scheduled for Jan. 4, 2008. Is this normal? I feel like in the beginning I only at small amounts, like tablespoons fill, but now 4 weeks almost passed I'm eating alot more. When I question this with the RN at my surgeons office she says that after my fill I will not eat that much. That now the band is only in place without any restriction. Can anyone out there please give me some advice? Thanks.:help:

    Need Exercise Support....help!!!

So today i have decided to get back to what i know works. After not going to the gym for the past 10 weeks after the tummy tuck i have really gotten lazy. To top it off, my plastic surgeon removes all the fill and for 8 weeks i had nothing. Talk about getting knocked off my high-horse. For the past two years i had it in my head that should anything happen to my band that i could do it on my own.... boy was i wrong. My hunger came back with a vengeance. I'm hungry all the time and i can eat ANYTHING... since my TT i have gained back 5lbs.... and i'm not happy about that. Now i have 5cc in my band and i'm still hungry. So this week i'm going back for 5 more. I need help with keeping me on track. Two weeks ago i started back at zumba, but i need more. So today i'm going to strap my boobs down and attempt the c25k. I have NEVER ran before. Anyone interested in helping me keep accountable... we can keep each other accountable. Report back either here or via messages on our day. How we did with food and exercise... I don't know about you all.... but i sure could use the help. Let me know..... Thanks everyone and have a wonderful day.
  14. Like MissDiva just after the sleeve we almost always have our doubts, regrets and fears. Now 10+ months out I do not have ANY regrets except for the fact that I didn't do it earlier. As far as "giving up" and "almost dying" I would say that I most certainly did NOT give up, if anything I gave IN, gave in to common sense and the realization that I was slowly killing myself for sure. I had to do SOMETHING and the surgery was IT for me. I've lost 165+ pounds, lowered my blood pressure, stabilized my blood sugar and eliminated a bunch of other issues.
  15. I'd like to second (or third) the motion for coffee. I had not gone for ~9 - 10 days and I was dying for a cup of coffee. My husband had brewed his usual morning coffee and I asked for just a little demitasse cup, with splenda and powdered creamer. It was literally under 2 ounces of coffee. I was thinking I probably didn't need to "go" much as I haven't had solid foods. Well let me tell you the coffee worked magic and the amount was astonishing. Sorry for being graphic, but I hope you find some magic to give you relief. It does take time for the bowel to recover from surgery, anesthesia and narcotics. Take care. ~Jane

    Banded Plication

Results for GPS being comparable to VSG is something I heard a lot prior to my op, but one stat I didn't know was the following one: "overall weight loss was considered satisfactory in 78.6% of the patients who underwent gastric plication and in 97.5% of those who underwent sleeve" which is available in full here: http://www.skrekas.n...mstatistics.htm That's nearly a 20% gap in success rate or said differently GPS has almost 10 times the failure rate or VSG!! I don't know if I'd have decided differently if I knew that information but I think it's info not re-told enough!! I'm curious to hear more about band over plication, so I'd love to hear more if anyone has anything to share about that!

    Fun strength training ideas?

Go to the hardware store and get a decent sized pipe (3-4 inch pipe) that is about 10-12ft long put an end cap on one end and a twist off cap on the other fill with water. Now carry said pipe in a crooked arm carry around the yard, now lift the pipe over head an do it again. You can vary the exercise by adding more water or also try walking backwards. One of the best core work outs I've ever done...using these slush pipes seems to target your weakest muscles in the back, core, and arms so it seems to work different things each week.
  18. Wait!!!! Don't throw the scale out!!!! Continue to get on it every day so you KNOW where you're at!!! No matter what my mama said, 'Ignorance is NOT bliss!!!!' You will go up and down....but if you are logging your food and if you will weigh and measure your food.....you will know if you're doing what you want to be doing. If you are, then you'll see the scale to start back the other way, I promise! I'd go up and down for a week, and one time 10 days, before it went down and stayed down. Then on to the next lb or two!!! I am almost three yrs out and I still log my food and weigh and measure my food. It's my life, it's habit and to me, it's fun. I am obsessive about knowing my caloric intake, even at three years out!! I know that if I go over 1200 calories for a few days, I'm going to see the scale go up two or three lbs. Don't worry, you'll be fine!!! Are you logging and weighing/measuring your food? You're early out, so did you just start adding regular food in?
  19. So i am now 19 days post op. in my mushies stage. I am not currently working so I am home all day. When I wake up I can not eat, dont even want to at all. so I drink a protien shake. then I am hungry at about 1 or 2 so i will eat 1/2 to 3/4 cup of whatever mush protien. then i will eat again around 6 or 7. then around 9pm my stomach growls and feels so empty I am starving! I feel hungry, its not just head hunger, its a little soon to eat again but really i am hungry!!! So every night nw i have been eating cream of wheat with sf syrup to sweeten it, made with milk and i also add beneprotien to up the protien content. it helps but i am still hungry after that. I try waiting an hour and then drinking fluids to help, which it doesnt really. I am also not losing any weight despite not going over 900 calories. I am getting the right amount pf protien and working on the fluids right now im at like 60. Am i doing something wrong, am i hurting myself by eating at night? if i dont eat i cant sleep because i am hungry. I am not losing at all, and i am exercising 3-4 times a week since i was released to do ....ack! HeLP!
  20. Thank you so much everyone!! I took a lot of your advice and started REALLY slowly last night and kept a big king sized pillow pressed up against my tummy the entire night. I rolled over to my left side just slightly with the pillow against me and it was HEAVEN!! I actually got 5-6 straight hours of sleep which is ALOT. I don't typically get more than that because I have a son who has night terrors in the middle of the night and 9 month old whose sleeping pattern is completely off since I left for surgery. Needless to say I feel soooo much better and refreshed today and I can't thank you enough!!! I think I'll be waiting until day 10 or so to get it on, but my hubby is sooo understanding and supportive that he would never complain. Thanks again...you guys are all so wonderful!

Those that have had surgery this week

Had surgery 4/10 and the gas is killing me. I'm using gas x strips but I'm still hurting. Had a rough day at the hospital and I had to stay two days. Turns out I am allergic to morphine and suffered quite a bit. I'm a lil better now but this gas is a mother.

    Gas Pain?

I'm 4 days post. But a lot better, I get it every now and then just sipping Water. But the real pain after the surgery lasted about 10 hours. I walked about 5x in that 10hrs. It helped a lot.

    Fills

You should get some topical numbing cream, like EMLA... then shut your eyes and tell him to do it quick! If nothing else, you should be getting your fill BECAUSE you're not reaching that 10 lb. mark! Go get your fill on Wed. I'm sure you'll be happy you did. Good luck!

    Hows Everyone Doing?

Wow! It's been a while since anyone posted! I was banded 10/07/11 and am down 71lbs. After my last fill on 07/03/11 I lost 8lbs in one week and have been stuck there ever since! I have had 5 fills and am at 7cc's in my 10cc band. I don't eat very much at all. I think it's what I am choosing to eat lately. A lot of personal life stuff going on makes it harder, but I am pushing on! How is everyone else doing??

    Food funerals

I didn't have to do any pre-op diet restriction at all, and I also got my surgery day with a pretty short period of time between that and the big day, about 10 days. I pretty much ate what I wanted, but my problem has never been eating 'bad' food per se, it's been more of a quantity issue and at 51, my metabolism is shot from years of 50 lbs up/50 lbs down/40 back up dieting. We went to a couple of my favorite restaurants and I had what I wanted, and I felt a little panicky the day after surgery when the enormity of the change I'd made really set in. Eat what you want within reason, I'd say...you're not going to gain significantly in a week and after surgery you CAN'T eat, so it's not like you're setting yourself up for some bigger change than those who are on restrictive diets already. And for what it's worth, I have zero food cravings now (except a weird obsession with blueberry scones?) and can watch others eat foods I previously loved without even wanting them.
