    Keto pills

I did a quick google search on this and it seems kinda sketchy. It claims to "put you in ketosis" and "keep you there longer". I'm not going to go into the explanation into this here but it can easily be found on the internet. That said, it looks like there is very little supporting research that the consumption of these types of supplements actually aid in weight loss. You are probably better off just doing the keto/low carb diet proper if you are looking to getting into ketosis. Though it looks like you already have them, so it wouldn't hurt to try them and see if they work. Good Luck!

A normal day of food post op?

I'm 4.5 months out. I eat 3 meals per day and no snacks (except 3 calcium chews per day for a total of 45 calories). My meals are typically 100-200 calories each and I typically eat 500-600 calories per day. If I'm low on protein for the day, I'll drink a protein shake or protein hot cocoa in addition to the meals. My meals are about half a cup each, a little more if there's lettuce because I figure that by the time I chew it up, it loses a lot of volume. Breakfast examples: Half container of triple zero yogurt with half a scoop of protein powder, raspberries/strawberries or PB2, keto granola or nut clusters Scrambled egg with 1/2 ounce cottage cheese, turkey sausage link Protein pancake with strawberries/raspberries and whipped cream Half packet of protein oatmeal with 1/4 scoop of protein powder, walnuts, and shredded carrots 4 ounces cottage cheese with nacho cheese seasoning Lunch: Protein bar if I'm at work; otherwise, same as dinner Typical dinner: Mexican casserole (chicken, cauliflower rice, salsa, black beans, cheese, plain greek yogurt) Salad with chicken and light dressing, topped with crushed Quest protein chips Chicken salad (shredded chicken, plain Greek yogurt, ranch seasoning), lettuce, tomato on half a 1 net carb tortilla with 1/4 ounce cheese White chicken chili Taco bites (shredded chicken, salsa, black beans, lettuce, tomato, plain Greek yogurt on Quest protein chips) Ricotta bake with turkey meat sauce Chicken or pork with sugar-free BBQ sauce, green beans

Anyone have chest pain after drinking?

This, and how. Exactly with the little burps and hitting the sternum. I'm 3 months post-op. I just accidentally had to buy a propel water on a trip and found the bottles it comes in to make things much easier for me, maybe the nozzle slowing it down while I drink. I do get in my 64 oz but I used to drink 96 oz easily daily and it was no problem. Now, however, I really have to stop myself from drinking too fast. With me, times are different too. I don't know if it's because I move around more and exercise first but morning is the worst for me until mid to late afternoon. Then it seems easier to just keep drinking in small amounts. It can take me hours to drink my 16 oz and major chest pain, no matter how slow I go, until past 3 or so, then I can take the same in about 45 minutes. Cold, or ice cold, seems to do better for me with drinking but keto ice cream or ice cream gives me amazing pain for about a half hour after even if I melt it down. If I freeze my water, it goes down easier but this really varies per person. Don't stress yourself too much with this-things do even out more as you go.

A normal day of food post op?

I am just now at 3 months. Everyone is really different with this honestly. I had a tough time-just passing Thanksgiving, I am getting a bit more used to foods I can handle but I will be honest and say there are a lot of limits. Some days are still worse then others-Doc said that's normal for the first year. I try to eat my normal keto diet from before but still have to add Atkins shakes. Cold does better for me then hot so I will sometimes freeze a drink in a bowl for lunch and have that. It definitely helps. Turkey meatballs are my staple these days if I can mix it with a little sauce. They say bread is difficult but I will have at least one or two slices of Aldi zero carb bread- it gives me a lot of fiber and some protein. I toast it then put either the turkey meatballs (smushed and mixed) onto the bread then let it get a bit moist or, if it's a good day, I can try some egg and then chicken that's been boiled with keto barbecue sauce (just a tad-it has about 3 net carbs). Sometimes I can handle deli meat and cheese seems to be fine for me if I really chew well and take tiny bites. I also have my tablespoon or two of genepro for the missing protein. Veggies are still really hard for me but I do take a v8 green and I have been trying little bits of apple. Banana was pretty hard and other fruits can be a toss-up depending on the day. I started to mix a bit of sweet potato mashed with almond milk and some of my boiled chicken together for some meals and peas mashed can be ok if I can handle it. Popcorn that's air-popped is doable for me and seeming the easiest to take down in small amounts (no butter or salt-just plain). I will take it as a treat- a cup or so. I also live on the sugar-free popsicles with 15 calories when my store has it in stock. Tillapia works for me some days as well if it's not baked or fried but boiled in the bag. My calories are still only at around 800 on good days but I'm exercising well and labs are showing the genepro is doing well with the protein. Probably not the best example for you as you can be better able to handle varieties then I am right now but it's where I'm at. Had bypass Sept 1.

4 days out so many ??s

I haven't weighed myself since I came home from the hospital. I am trying to only weigh in twice month, just so I do not get too hung up on the numbers. I just moved from clear liquids to full liquids today but I was little afraid of that too, not because I have pain just because in my head I am telling myself it could be bad...lol I did get 2 shakes in today so I thought that was decent progress. I have my first follow up on Tuesday and I will weigh in at that time. My husband is set up for this next month and we set the winter aside thinking it was going to be a long process and kind of planned on some bumps so I am pleased he is seeing a smooth ride so he does not get nervous and chicken out. I hope this is the beginning of a smooth process and we all get to where we need to be. I am reading a lot about the Keto Eupohoria (not sure on that spelling) but I am almost thinking my energy may be coming from that. I am not complaining because I am knocking out end of year here as well!!!
  7. I am 2 years post-op and I have never liked food, so sweets were my downfall and continue to be my go-to snack. So I rely heavily on protein bars, keto bars, sugar-free snacks, etc. to satisfy my need for sweets. It hasn't added pounds to me. It works out well for me.

    Food Before and After Photos

Buffalo chicken soup, celery and carrot stick. Homemade blue cheese dressing. A bit high in kcals at 350. Ate all of the soup and the veggies, with only a tiny bit of the dip. Hubby is eating keto right now and was VERY happy 😊
  9. My surgeon did the very same with me. Our NUT is in house and works as part of the team but I do have a Dr in the team besides my surgeon. My Dr is more strict with my diet while my NUT is a bit more easy-going. At this point (close to 3 months post op now) my NUT has always answered me by saying to not worry about calories right now. They just want me to get my proteins met first and foremost and then add anything I can else that is on the list (it does include potatoes, beans, fruits, keto ice-cream, etc) and she says to add some potato if it's easier to eat with chicken to get down. However, I read about a lot of different protein level preferences (always the same lowest but some require much, much higher) and even vitamin differences. Just follow what your Dr says. A lot also can depend on specific health problems, ages, prior history, etc.
  10. What are you eating? Are you tracking your daily intake and macros no matter whether you're pre-op or post-op? Share your macros. Here's what I ate yesterday: Calories: 1075 Carbs: 24 Protein: 128 Fat: 56 Sugars: 9 Yeah, I know the "fat" looks high, but hubby and I are doing the "Carnivore Diet" right now, more rigid form of keto with focus on protein and fats and reduction of carbs and sugars. Tell us what you're eating.

    Thanksgiving

With COVID we aren't having a family get-together. It's just me and hubby. I'm making some Keto sausage balls and keto brownies and that's about it. We aren't big on tradition so not having the turkey and trimmings isn't a big deal to us. Hubby and I are on the Carnivore (stricter Keto) diet so we wouldn't be eating much different than any other day anyway. Focus on Thanksgiving as being with family as opposed to being about food.

    Energy Drinks?? Bangs?

I drink Bang Keto Coffee Cookies and Cream and they are not carbonated. They are delicious. Can someone please tell me why some surgeons say no caffeine? Is it forever or just while healing? I was sleeved Sept 2, 2020. I have been drinking Bang for about a month. Do some surgeons think caffeine effects your weight loss?
  13. I have a very similar story, am 6 yrs post VSG. Had regain about 2 yrs out and it took getting some ugly medical news to get me back on track for good. I went strict keto, lost all the regain, lost about 20 more and am doing good. But it's always going to be a fight for me. I had to commit-LITERALLY, FINALLY- to giving up a lot of foods that I'll likely never eat again and that was a huge mourning process. I've been about 3 yrs strict Keto and love the lifestyle, but it's not for everyone. And it can be a challenge. yes we can have all that fat, but it's still really hard knowing I'll likely never eat most 'regular' foods again. Pre-surgery I had hoped I would be able to eat all things in small amounts again someday- but that got me on a slippery slope leading to the regain. So I have to stick to what works. I've found that when it comes to staying on track, I do great with total abstinence but really BAD at moderation.

Weight regain...I don't know where to start.

I know several people who swear by Weight Watchers (easier to sustain for longer periods of time than Keto is, because there are fewer restrictions), but some just go back to the way they were eating that first year. Not all the way back to shakes, but how they were eating around months 6-12 - protein first, then non-starchy veggies, and then, if you have room, maybe a small serving of fruit or whole grain carbs. If you're no longer tracking your food intake, than start doing that again as well. not everyone recommends calorie counting, but I really monitor my calories if I'm trying to lose a regain. I can maintain my weight if I eat in the 1500-1700 calorie a day range (but that's going to be different for everyone - you'll have to experiment to find your range). If I need to lose weight, I'll eat at the lower end of that range, or just below it. And I step up on my exercising. It's slow, but it works.
  15. I'll be 7 years post gastric sleeve in December. I never reached goal, but lost 80 lbs. I managed to keep most of it off for about 4 years and slowly the carbs crept back into my life and the weight gain began. I gained 35 lbs back and I'm so disgusted with myself. It took me so long to get the courage to finally have WLS. I was so nervous and afraid that I swore if I put myself through surgery I would never gain all my weight back. I've tried Keto, and did really well for about a year and a half until I was no longer losing and just couldn't commit to the lifestyle. It seems I've lost any will power I may once had and I really don't want to get a revision if I can help it. How do I restart my weight loss? I know I've probably stretched my pouch. Do I go back to drinking shakes? Has anyone had any success in losing their significant weight gain without having to have a revision, or is a revision in my future?

So mad at myself for regain

I can relate! I have been off of this forum for a year but really should have stuck with it. I kept the weight off until March when my husband got COVID but then I ate every cookie and every chocolate bar I could get my hands on. The damage was 10-12 pounds, thankfully, but I'm finally psychologically ready to get back on track. I kicked myself in the ass for gaining weight, but that didn't fix the problem and I had to remember why I had the surgery in the first place. So I started in KETO two weeks ago and have lost 4 lbs and feel like I'm headed in the right direction, even through the holidays I feel confident that I can do it. You can too!
  17. Well, to be fair, it was all my fault. The sleeve did it's job. I was really struggling with COVID and the racial tension in this country (no excuse) and Depression and I was eating two giant Hershey bars a day and cookies. Sweets are my weakness. Once I quit eating the sweets, the weight started coming back off. I can't eat very much at a time. The sleeve cuts off 3/4 of your stomach so you end up with a teeny tiny stomach that can't hold much. Therefore you can't eat much at any one sitting. That being said, if you ate or snacked every few hours, it's possible you could still eat too much, but if you stuck with three meals a day and maybe one snack you'd drop the weight like crazy. On the bright side, I was able to stop myself at the 10 pounds and not gain back 20, 30 or 50. So in the long run, I've learned my lesson, I didn't regain all of my original weight, and I caught myself before I got in too deep and I'm back on track. Hubby and I are now doing the KETO diet and it's amazing how little I can eat due to the stomach size restriction. Like I said, it's a Godsend.
  18. It's tough, isn't it? It's a lifetime struggle for many of us. I can highly recommend the Sleeve Surgery as I had it just under two years ago and lost 60 lbs or so. That being said, this year with COVID, I gained 10-12 of it back, but I just got back on track again two weeks ago and have already lost 4 lbs on KETO. What's different about dieting post-op to pre-op is that your stomach is smaller so you can't eat as much. It's your best friend and aid in dieting. As long as you're choosing the right foods with the focus on protein, the portion sizes take care of themselves and that's a huge impact on your success. I can't speak from experience as to a revision because I never had the lapband.
  19. Hey guys I really need some help from "real people with real experiences", my weight is increasing despite having a lap band in and I need to do something to stop it in its tracks. I have been dieting forever but this year I have done about 7 different diets, from Keto, SW, Calorie Counting etc and I am now heavier than I was on January 1st and what worries me is what my weight will rise up to if I don't do something. My history: - Starting Weight before Lap band: approx. 17 stone (size 20) - Lowest Weight after Lap band: approx. 10 stone (not for very long, comfortable weight was about 11 stone) (size 10/12) - Current Weight: 13 stone (steadily increasing weekly) (size 14) - I had a gastric band in April 2010, everything was fine overall, but the last few years haven't been so good, I developed a pouch in oesophagus so I only have 6.25ml in my band, this isn't really providing me with much restriction at all, I do have a little reflux however. I have also suffered with constipation for about 20 years! As I said above, I really need some help from "real people with real experiences", I am considering what my options are, revision surgery from the band to: Sleeve, Bypass, Mini Bypass or anything else? I have spoken to a few surgeons this week and they have all given different advice, so it is even more confusing. My questions are: - Has anyone had a similar experiences and what did you decide to do and was it the right decision? - It worries me if I have the sleeve or a bypass, will I be in the same situation in 10 years time? - Would anyone recommend a particular company or surgeon? - Has anyone had the band deflated and maybe had the balloon? I don't know if this is even possible? I thought this would mean surgery wouldn't be needed? Any advice would be welcomed, thank you all for your time 🙂
  20. Cheese Stuffed, Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf with homemade Keto ketchup (BFF made the ketchup for me and it tastes just like ketchup - actually better!) One slice (as shown) is 301 calories. I had a whole slice, with about 1 tsp of the keto ketchup (I have no idea what the caloric count of this is, so I'm just going to guess maybe 15 cals per tsp). This meatloaf was crazy filling and I probably ate too much as I am uncomfortably full. Was very yum though!

    Food Before and After Photos

For everyone balling on a budget He focuses on keto but mostly on clean foods so perfect for people transitioning to post WLS lifestyle/diets
  22. I use an App that is great for the keto diet or any meal plan which you want to calculate macros, like...carbs, fats, proteins, sugar. The app is “ Carb Manager” it tracks all foods including restaurant items. You can record water consumption and exercise. I hope this helps?
  23. Gentle reminder that just because something is KETO, doesn't mean it may be something one would want add to one's diet when in weight loss phase. Case in point: Keto Sans Rival Cake (cashew meringue layered with french buttercream and chopped cashews). I just free-handed the meringue layers so they look kinda wonky. Next time I'll use a form or pan, or maybe a piping bag... My slice pictured below, and even with using a zero-calorie sweetener, it still measured out at 205 calories (about the size of small-ish lime). Ate it all.
  24. Almost-Keto Apple Fritters Adapted from an Actual-Keto Apple Fritter recipe (I didn’t have any “vital wheat gluten”... whatever that is! So i used 1/8 cup wheat flour + 1/8 cup psyllium instead. Also, I skipped the glaze and used cinnamon and granulated monkfruit instead; as well as added baking powder) These things turned out MASSIVE (miscalculation on my part) and just one is the size of BOTH my hands! A regular serving should probably be less than half this size. 161 calories for each ginormous fritter (11g fat, 19g net carbs). Ate 1/4 of one, and the fam wolfed down the rest of them before they even cooled down (shhhh...don’t tell them there wasn’t any actual sugar in them!)
