  1. I am now 3 weeks & 2 days post and I am pretty sure I have hit the INFAMOUS three week stall (or plateau). I hate that inner me that needs to know that the scale is moving. My follow-up with surgeon is Tuesday and I would really like to be below 240 by then...2 lousy pounds. I have, for some unknown reason, had it in my head since the appt was scheduled that I wanted to be in the 230's and I haven't made it and its driving me nuts. I have already had a couple of small NSVs and its awesome but the scale thing is something I have fought since my twenties. Anyone else out there a scale junkie? How are you coping? I moved it out of sight and am not getting on it but every third day. "Taylor" (scale manufacturer) and I will meet up on Sunday morning (sans clothes, of course) and hope I have made some progress.
  2. Search "three week stall." It happens to everyone. Just stick with your plan and the weight will come off in its own time. This journey is a marathon, not a sprint!
  3. Dang it....I've been there too and it stinks. The dreaded 3-week stall! I FREAKED OUT when I actually gained a pound during that time. Contacted the nutrionist at the surgeons office (because I was convinced I was going to be one of the people the sleeve surgery didn't work for.) Her exact words, "Relax. It is normal for weight to flucuate, especially after surgery. You do have restriction there. Just keep doing what you are doing and the weight will come off." She was right of course. Seems like when I have a stall or even gain, it's always right before I have a dramatic drop in weight. My weightloss has not been a smooth downward track, it looks more like steps...down then flat.....down then flat. You keep doing what you are doing and you will lose. May have a few more stalls along the way too. You are welcome to read my blog as I started at roughly the same weight but am only a few weeks ahead of you. http://hoosierfatty.wordpress.com/2013/03/04/three-week-stall-weight-and-diet/ Good luck!
  4. First picture was May 2013. High weight 290 and a size 24. Had surgery September 2013 at 263. Today (second pic) is me at 224 and in a size 14 jeans! This included a three week stall. Things are looking up!
  5. Had my surgery in 2018 and 2019 I had only lost 80 lb. Since then I've had a tummy tuck again. So that means I have less bile in my stomach. Since then I have not lost anything and this is the year 2021 . I have not lost anything since then and why am I not losing. I am eating right but not getting a lot of exercise because of this pandemic covid-19. So I am walking my dog and doing what I can around the house to keep busy and trying to burn off calories but nothing has worked. I don't have the money to go to a exercise gym so my plan is to workout at home but I don't like doing it alone. Don't have a lot of friends. And don't know what to do I consulted my doctor and he said it's because of this covid-19 after this it will come off. I'm just getting stressful in getting down on myself cuz I don't know what else to do. I want to be thinner I want to look good. And I want to be healthier. I'm doing everything correctly but why am I'm not losing anything I know everyone says this two to three weeks stall will pass and then our bodies won't start losing more body weight. And went through the two to three weeks tall and my body has not lost anything since then. And I am getting frustrated. I'm thinking about not eating and starving myself to lose the weight. I eat very small as it is now drink the shakes that I should be 4 meals breakfast lunch and dinner and I haven't lost anything since. I was down before my second surgery at 219 and then I gained 10 lbs back and now I am at 232 and maintain that weight for now. Not lost anything since then. But my hair is still coming out. Im down on myself . don't know what else to do? Why can't I be thin. I want to lose another 40 lbs . be under 200 lbs I'll be good. But can't lose fast enough ! Help me please, tell me what can I do!
  6. I was prepared for the three week stall. I have read numerous threads about it and know it happens to everyone. I weigh myself once every few days, sometimes up to five days. I last weighed myself on Saturday. I was 270. This morning, I am 271.4. I am still on a liquid diet, getting about 75 to 80 grams of Protein. I drink about 50 ounces of Fluid, working to get to 64 ounces. My goal is to have a lymphatic massage to release toxins and detox. Is weight gain also normal during the stall? Google three week stall. Everyone goes through it. Remember that this journey is a marathon and not a sprint. You have to make lifelong changes to be successful long term. Hang in there.

    Frickin Stalls!

A quick question -- do you both know about the three-week stall? I only ask because many people who've had surgery have never heard of it. If not, read this: http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html#.Uqj2GfRDtzY

    plateaued?!?!

It's the three week stall....happens more often then not. Mine lasted about 4 weeks, then finally the scale started moving. Don't worry! This will pass, and you will start losing again.
  11. Day 20, sounds like the infamous three week stall I recently learned about but it happens to so many people here. I had it as well. It lets up. Just be patient. Congrats on the 20 pounds.

    3 week stall

yep - it's the infamous three-week stall - right on schedule!

    Depression

I'm both a slow loser, and a serial staller. I've lost weight post-surgery at the same rate I did when I tried the old-school calorie counting. I've never had the "honeymoon period" folk on here talk about. I've lost count of how many stalls I've had, and have just this week finally broken another three week stall of zero weight loss. Like you, I follow my plan to the letter, do regular exercise, and know I eat at a large calorie deficit. So I absolutely know how you feel! But as The Greater Fool said - you cannot compare yourself to others, and you cannot let yourself be ruled by the scale. The weight IS coming off, and if it's coming off slower, that's not a bad thing! With luck my slow rate will give my skin the best chance of bouncing back. The trick is to enjoy your own journey without worrying about others, and to celebrate your own little milestones and victories. Because they're happening.
  14. many (most?) of us having our first major stall sometime during the first month after surgery. It's called the "three week stall" because it usually happens the third week, but not always. Mine was weeks 2 and 3. You may just be going into it early. Do a search on it - it happens to almost all of us.
  15. the three week stall ended with this past week and a 4lb loss. and now that's it again for days - the same #. I am happy to hear your story Cheri as it gives me hope that although I am a slow loser I will get there. Thank you for sharing. I truly wish I did measurements prior to surgery as I know things fit better on me even if my scale is "broken" lol.

3 weeks PO and no weight loss

I just did a search on this site for "the three week stall" for you. Over 17,000 posts on this phenomenon. This happens to almost all of us. https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three week stall

    Not losing weight

yep - you're in the infamous three week stall that almost all of us experience. Do a search for it on this site and you'll find hundreds - if not thousands - of posts on it. Just stick to your program and the weight loss will eventually start up again. My first stall lasted two weeks. Once it broke, i lost like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days. you'll have other stalls along the way - it's very common. Just keep sticking to your program and they'll eventually break. also, your weight loss is fine. I lost 16 lbs the entire first month, and I ended up losing all my excess weight (over 200 lbs). Your rate of weight loss has nothing to do with your final result - but your level of commitment DOES.

    Dreaded STALL

Happens to almost everyone, and you'll hit several of these on your journey. No need to go back to liquids. Just keep following your program and stay off the scale if you need to - and remember that it WILL break. it always does.... (it's probably just coincidence that the dreaded "three-week stall" happens around the same time that you start eating real food)
  19. Oh Tracey, the much-dreaded 3-week stall is just a week late for you. Search this site for "three-week stall" and you will feel so much better--we all have it in one way, form, or fashion. It will pass. Just keep doing what you're supposed to do and hang in there. The time AFTER the stall breaks is some of the fastest loss you'll experience, so fun times are ahead!

    How fast is too fast?

people lose at all different rates depending on a bunch of different factors - age, gender, metabolic rate, whether or not you lost a bunch of weight before surgery, body composition (% of muscle), genetics, activity level, etc. As long as you're following your clinic's plan, you're fine. you're also about to hit the infamous "three-week stall" that a vast majority of us experience (it's not always the third week, but sometime within the first 4-6 weeks post surgery). Your weight loss will likely stall for 1-2 weeks (and for a few, three weeks) before it takes off again. it seems like most people lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month (but of course you'll always find a few outliers who lose more or less than that), but i'm guessing you'll end up at the higher end of that range - and maybe even a little over, which is fine. You're normal!

    Timing might be *everything!

I've just overcame a three week stall that irked me so bad! Yes I was happy for the weight I'd lost to date, but I really don't think my body type is one that should have long stalls. So, when I go a third week and no loss, I investigate everything I'm eating/drinking and how much, when and how its all prepared and I re-evaluate my workout routine. I tweak it to fine tune to what I know works for me and it seems to get things moving back in the right direction. Losing weight comes with a lot of patience and getting to know your body. You have to find what works the best for you and continue to do that through to the end. Logging your food and writing down a certain routine for workouts (if you workout - not everyone does) so you keep track of what you are doing. If you are still stalled, try changing some things or trying new ways. Good luck!

    Stalling

I had my Gastric Bypass surgery on October 6th. I was experiencing the three-week stall myself - just couldn't lose an ounce. Stepped on the scale this a.m. and I am down 2 lbs 4 oz! I knew about the stall and I just kept with the plan. It's now broken and I'm losing weight again! If I can encourage you in any way, I hope you just stick with the plan. Leave the scale alone for a week or two. You will be happy when you see that you've broken the stall! 😀

    Having A Stall.....help

3 weeks post-op I started a stall that lasted... about 10 weeks. It sucked! It finally broke about a week ago. My best suggestion would be to do a search for "three week stall". It's something most people go through. Generally lasts 1 - 3 weeks, occasionally 4. Virtually everyone goes through it. So the best advice is to be patient and not freak out, don't try to change everything you're doing because you think it's your fault... don't let it get you down. Just remember it will pass.

    Stalling

I didn't have a three week stall exactly, but I am at 7 weeks out and I lost NADA last week - actually went up 0.2 lbs. I'm worried it's from the traveling.

Why am i not losing weight?

I am coming up on 3 years post surgery... I am now only ONE pound away from goal. Talk about stalls. If you lose 10 pounds a month, that is heaven. There will be stalls and maybe lots of them for some of us. I understand we all want the fat off NOW! But if you had 85% of your stomach cut out, and are eating 700 cals a day... it will come off. Maybe sooner, maybe later... this is a good time to work on your mindset... this process is not over after you get the weight off, its just starting! You need to keep vigilant during maintenance as well. The three week stall is a bi**h, why would the body do that to us? It is swollen, it is hurt, it is losing its income drastically, it does not want you to die! Give it a break, it wont last forever.... and by the way, 3.9 pounds a week would NEVER be counted as a slow loser. You peeps will get there, in fact the time will fly. Some will lose faster than others, but it feels just as good to reach goal, at 6 months or 3 years. Relax a little.
