  1. I was sleeved September 27th. Down 40 lbs as of today. I am just starting to lose again after a 3 week stall.....finally!!!!

    Plication Surgery

Oh, yes! At about 2-3 weeks post surgery, I went into a stall for THREE weeks!! Drove me crazy, but I just kept reminding myself about the "Dreaded 3 week Stall" and, sure enough, if finally broke! I did have to tighten up my calories and carbs a little before it did, but it did break, and that was all that counted!
  3. So after I lost all the water weight from surgery, I lost 10lbs- all by week 1.5. Now? Nothing. I'm just past my 2 week mark now. Did I get the infamous 3 week stall early? Also sick of feeling kinda crappy multiple times per day. And who has time to eat 8x per day?? And do they really expect it to take 1/2 hour + to eat 2oz of food?? Very frustrated.

    5 1/2 months

So, I haven't been on here in a while, and decided to give an update. I just posted some pictures that I had taken back in June when I was at 222 pounds. I just came out of a 3 week stall and am now at 205 pounds. It was frustrating to not lose anything for such a long period of time, but I think it was because I wasn't exercising as much as I had been due to all that has been going on at work. (Just now getting frustrated typing this because the enter button won't work in this box!) I am happy about my weight, not so much about the saggy skin that is coming up in places where I didn't expect. I also haven't been this weight since after having my son 20 years ago. It's nice and I'm excited to see how much more I will lose and how much better I will look.

    Frustrated and Discouraged

My 3 week stall lasted for 2 weeks it's a process our bodies go through it normal and from what I hear it's plenty more to come I'm only 8 weeks out but I hear they happen often... Sent from my SM-G900T1 using the BariatricPal App
  6. Hello everyone, I'm a 34 yo young woman who is very grateful for this forum. I can't tell you all what a great support group this is. I have spent hours and hours and hours here reading posts and finding answers to my questions. Thank you for being here. I'm day 73 post op. I feel like i'm not losing as much as i should be, but i've found myself not exercising as much as i should be. I'm trying to make a commitment to myself to do so so that i can do this the right way. After a 3 week stall, i want that weight to come off! Thanks for listening and hello to all. 01.01.2010 Highest weight 289 03.18.2010 Day of surgery 262 05.29.2010 Current weight 217 Dr. Van Wagner in St. Louis, MO at St Alexius Hospital
  7. You're doing fine. You likely hit your 3 week stall a little early. I did too and it lasted about 2.5 weeks. Focus on getting in more Protein every day and increasing your Water. It is frustrating and if you did a poll on this site I am willing to bet 97% of everyone hit the same stall and felt exactly the same way. You are normal, just keep following your plan and the scale will move again.
  8. So I'm starting to believe that the three week stall is real. My surgery date was 6/2 and my starting weight was 398. One week post op I was 370 now I'm 360 and I know it's great but I've been stuck at 360. And suggestions and also good work out suggestions?
  9. please search 3 week stall on here. i believe it will make you feel much better...
  10. I've been a little reserved over the whole dreaded "3 week stall" and so I am trying to encourage myself. This is what occurred to me: 1) I haven't weighed in 3 days (YAY for me) Does that count as a NSV or is it an anti-NSV? lol 2) I have successfully gotten ALL my Protein in since the day I started Protein drinks and am now able to do it with only 1 Protein shake per day They aint fancy, but I'll take 'em!
  11. Praise the Lord, I'm 6 months post op, and very thankful my diabetes was reversed as well as severe reflux I had prior to surgery! My weight loss has been slow with many 3 week stalls, and my surgeon recommends I have to increase the protein intake, as I slacked off of protein shakes the last few months. (Just got tired of them). I'm back to having a protein shake of 30 gm. plus what I get in foods to hopefully increase wt. loss & slow down hair loss. Overall, done well down 50 lbs. & Hgb A1C is 5.4 (also off cholesterol med. since surgery, but lab levels creeping back up, keeping a watch on it)
  12. Thanks for posting this again, Butter! I think I've read it about 4 times, but it is just such a good article! Plus, I think I'm almost there myself... Sleeved on 11/21, and this was the first time I gained 0.5 lbs. I'm just reminding myself its just Water. Also, I've read a lot of people tend to lose inches during the 3 week stall, and I'm excited for that part... I'm down almost 100 pounds since my highest weight and have only dropped 2-3 sizes, depending on the brand. I am starting to get a little more frustrated with that aspect of things... Anyway, thanks again for the great article!

    Longest stall ever

Don't worry, you'll come out of it. I stalled at the dreaded 3 week stall, then again a few weeks ago for probably at least a week, got back on the scale this past Monday (last Monday) and I have lost 5 in a week. I was so frustrated i couldn't stand it! Everyone here says you go down, then can stall then even go up then start losing again. And you're better than me because i am NOT exercising nearly at all. I've lost 45 since 4/2 10 pre-op the rest post op after 4/17. Transitioning to solids sometimes stalls you too, more waste- more poop, lol! I had to do a stool softener when I started solids.

    Help

Star, That's the perfect answer!! I'm thrilled to see others working to remove the word "Only" from weight loss, too! Deana, At less than 2 weeks post-op, your body is still working hard to get rid of the gas and fluids that were pumped into you for surgery. 9 pounds lost is awesome, especially considering how much Fluid is pumped into us during surgery. You also lost a significant amount pre-op, which can slow down your initial weight loss, not that 9 pounds isn't fantastic in two weeks! It is!! One thing I've noticed is that some of us start out a little slower than others, but we're all at similar amounts of weight loss a few months out. It's like it levels off. Folks who begin with higher BMI's tend to drop big amounts of weight right out of the gate; those with lower BMI's "seem" to lose slower. But if the weight is coming off, who cares? This is a journey for each of us to a healthy weight. It's NOT a race. "Slower" losers have less loose skin, usually, which is a bonus, IMO. You just keep working your plan and you will be amazed at your weight loss! Be prepared for the 3 week stall, which is coming right up. You won't lose anything for a week, maybe more, but it is because your body is adjusting to the new, lower, amount of food you're putting in it. But, that 3 week stall usually breaks in a dramatic way. Mine lasted a couple of weeks and I walked out of a pants size during it! I've found that I lose inches during stalls. It's a great idea to take your measurements now and keep track of them. When you hit stalls, you can measure yourself and see if it's a true stall or if it's just your body reshaping you. Good luck!! You're gonna rock that sleeve!
  15. i had ds surgery on 8/17/21 and i lost a total of 27 lbs so far but i hit a 3 week stall and it is soooooo depressing ,., idk what to do

    Attitude Adjustment

Hi To be petrified at this point is what I would have been. You know,I think that pre-op we are sometimes plain stupid.I thought people that stalls,cheated...right?Now after my 3 week stall I know sooo much better. You just have to remember there are only 2 kinds of people on earth. Those who get it and those who dont! Of course the fear and the doubt will be part of your life until the leak is healed. You should just take this day by day, baby steps for now.Dont do too much.Be super gentle with yourself.Dont read stuff that seems unrelated to where you are at.If you need to vent tell people on the board thats stupid to get stuffed. You have the right to just be at the moment. And the one thing that everyone can be guaranteed of in life is that bad things will happen to us.At some point,to each and everyone of us.Today is your turn tomorrow might be mine. But this too shall pass.Lots of patience and careful living for now. I will pray that this whole ordeal can be over quickly for you to start enjoying this great new life that awaits you for the rest of your life. xxo
  17. @@net0girl are you meeting your Water and Protein goals every day? Are you taking your Vitamins? Are you keeping your carb count down? Have you started your monthly? Have you started exercising (which can lead to a gain due to muscle gain)? Are you retaining water (watch your salt intake)? Are you taking measurements rather than relying on your scale? You are due to hit the famous 3 week stall. How much did you lose pre op? Read the thread "Embrace the Stall" and it can give you an explanation of what is happening. Stalls can be a good thing if you have stalled while doing everything right. The body needs to stop and reevaluate itself after weight loss.

    no weight loss!

Yup, I gained 10 pounds from the fluids also. I didnt start seeing the numbers go down till around the 2 week mark which made me happy but then I hit the 3 week stall which made me homicidal But then after the stall, I saw the numbers go down continuously except for the repeated stalls. Just keep being good to your sleeve.

    Return To Liquid Diet?

Don't worry, you're just in a stall. If you search 3 week stall or 4 week stall you will find a number of posts on this subject - You are not alone! You have just hit the dreaded stall that most of us eventually get to. The weight loss WILL continue, you just need to stick to what you're doing and not give up on your body. It's adjusting to this new shocking lifestyle. You threw it a curve ball. It's just trying to make heads or tails of it. However you wanna call it, your body will go back to normal and you'll start losing again. If you're looking for more information on this, there are quite a few threads I was able to find that may be helpful: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/47671-dreaded-week-3-4-stall-any-tips-to-break-it/page__hl__%2Bweek+%2Bstall http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/48315-stalled-at-3-weeks-and-now-at-6-weeksnormal/page__hl__+week%20+stall#entry443548 http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/47251-scaled-hasnt-moved-in-one-week-three-weeks-post-op/page__hl__+week%20+stall#entry432477 You will get through this!
  20. Here's a good article that explains why you have the 3 week stall. http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html

    What am I doing wrong??

Read about the 3 weeks stall....it's all over this forum
  22. The 3 week stall.....If you just had surgery and your weight loss has already stalled, read THIS I lifted this link from Butterthebean's signature (thanks for the lend!) If the link doesn't work, look for one of his posts and it's there. I think you're right on the BMR calc. That lines up pretty close to where I'm usually at, and I wear a Bodymedia Fit, so I know how many calories I've burned each day. I don't believe that you have been on a very low calorie diet long enough to have had any major effect on your metabolism, though, our bodies do learn to do the work we ask it to do as efficiently as possible (with the least calorie expenditure). This is one of my biggest fears. I don't want to get down to goal weight and be forced into a 900 cal/day diet for the rest of my life to prevent gain. I want to be able to be healthy, train, and race, and not being a small girl, that's gonna take calories to provide the kind of energy I will need. All that being said, sometimes the math takes a hiatus and doesn't line up for periods of time. I've been running an average of 1800cal daily deficit and over the last 10 days, I've only lost about 2 pounds, but according to the math, it should have been more like 5. We're going to have periods of time that are like that, but an 8 pound gain? I don't know, but that sounds like there's something else going on. I've never had a problem with sugar either, but most, if not all, of the surgeons recommend eliminating, or severely limiting sugar. I don't intend to go so far as to eliminate it, but I will reduce it significantly. I have to be honest, though. I haven't done a ton of research as to exactly what it does to the body, other than the effects on blood sugar, which can in turn create cravings. The good news about cutting sugar, though, is that many people will go through a short withdrawal phase, and then the cravings disappear, so it's a habit that is *relatively* easy to kick. Also, some people have allergies to sugar. Our bodies response to it might not be noticeable when we are heavy, but might be after surgery and we are trying to squeeze every pound of loss that we can. Yeah, all calories are not equivalent when you consider the different effects the macronutrients play in nutrition, and about a zillion other variables that are only partially understood so far. They're really only all the same if you look at it from a purely physical standpoint and not a biological one. One Calorie provides the energy released from food that is equivalent to the energy required to increase the temperature of 1 kilogram of Water by 1 degree at 1 atmosphere of pressure. Doesn't really tell you a lot about how it interacts with the body... Yikes... going too far again... I think the most important thing for you to figure out is exactly what's causing you to gravitate toward selecting the sugary drinks instead of what you know to be healthier options. If you can address that part of the equation, you've got half the battle licked right there. Good luck! Keep working toward the goal!

    FRUSTRATED ....... stall

I didn't have a 3 week stall, but I am having one now at week 5. I expected this, I just hope it doesn't last long. I am anxious to take off another 20lbs.... Like you, I just keep following my plan, and know that eventually scales will move.

How I broke my latest stall

the 3 week stall happens to most people. Your body needs to adjust. Never fear it will pass I know it is hard to believe that but its true. I stall all the time. This last stall lasted for almost a month. I no longer get upset as I know this is how I lose. I will stall for quite a while and then lose a bunch. I don't mind it as long as I know I am still having the times when I lose. I know my body will lose weight with the amount of calories I consume in a day. Just think back to what we used to eat in a day and look where we are now!! Good luck!
