  1. So after my 3 week stall and 5lb regain i freaked out and hid the scale(195-198). Didn't weigh again until 8/5 at the doctors office (186). On that day i was happy so i put the scale back in the bathroom. What fresh hell did i put myself into 185-186 haunted me the whole month no matter what i did... So between fb and here i started getting frustrated at those dropping weight constantly without one drop of exercise and im killing myself in the gym 5 days a week and could not drop one lb. i wanted to stop going and just say forget it. Instead i skipped the gym and went outside for a few days, got some sun , hit the track , even raced my 3 year old a few times...today 179!!!!! bye 80's hello 70's i guess my body was just tired of the same old gym routine everyday.
  2. @@LMSWNYC Yes, I think it happens because our stomachs have finished healing, and appetite changes. I too was supposed to be on 80g Protein per day, but mostly manage 60-65. I will increase the Proteins then. Funny, I too drink hot chicken broth at times, and this helped my hungry but not at meal time cravings. I just love my melons and berries for deserts these days, just like you. I have finally lost bit more weight after a 3 week stall this time, so I am learning to know and accept this stage now. Until another new stage arrives, in this post WLS process and journey.
  3. So I have been stalling lately for 2-3 weeks at a time and only lost 2 pounds in 2 months. Surgery was 4/26 lost 45lbs total. I'm 4 months out and feel I should have lost a lot more. At my 3 month check up they said I was on track but I don't feel like I am. Honestly it's so hard days to even get all my Protein and Water in. I was just wondering if anyone else had long stalls like me. I have only found couple days to 2-3 weeks stalls at the most. Sent from my iPhone
  4. So, I hit my 3-week stall on Wednesday, and now it's Sunday. My stall has already vanished and I've lost an extra FOUR pounds since yesterday. Is this even normal? Yesterday, I did eat a TON of Protein. I mean, I ate so much that I thought I screwed up my diet. I ate like 5 pieces of beef tataki and 5 pieces of crab sticks. This is a lot to me considering it made me feel extremely full. I'm hoping my scale isn't wrong. I got on it 3 times and it keeps saying the same thing (229), and yesterday I weighed 232. It's my 4th day of PMSing so maybe the Water I was retaining has shed off of me, and I also had my first bowel movement yesterday since 3 days ago, (sorry TMI). Am I getting my hopes up? Or is this even possible?
  5. My stall began on Wednesday, and my 3 weeks was on Thursday. So it was right on the money, lol. I'm fine with the stall since I was expecting it. I've been going from 234 to 232 for days now. How long does it usually last for most people? If you had the stall, once it went away, did you go back to losing weight rapidly? I want to start losing weight rapidly again, and I'm worried that it will be slower after the stall goes away.
  6. I suppose I'm just looking to share with others in my shoes. I'm 6 wks out today. I hit the dreaded 3 week stall I assume because the scale hasn't moved in 3 weeks. That's a long ass stall! I just got home from a business trip in Vegas. My plan allows for crab meat and baked fish at this point and I figured I could share with my husband. It was SO much harder than I anticipated. I had the expected difficulties with wanting to eat steak and all the other wonderful things that got me to bariatric surgery. I did not expect that I couldn't eat anything!! My stomach is not ready for fish or crab. I tried two bites, chewed well and hurt for hours. I was so discouraged. I had protein bars packed and ate those, but I really struggled to get any significant protein or calories in. I wanted to cry. I was so mad at myself for having this surgery! All this and the damn scale hasn't moved in 3 weeks! How do you not lose weight on 600 calories a day max? Then I went to the spa for a massage. And for the first time in years, I was able to wear the regular robe out the locker. The attending didn't have to discreetly get me a "different robe." Such a small thing, but it made such a big difference in my attitude. I wish my sleeve was healing faster. I wish I could tolerate a larger variety of foods. But, I know its going to get better. And it's going to be worth it.

    Dreaded 3-week stall?

I see this is an old thread, just being revisited, but I had heard mention of the "3 week stall." Now, I'm living it! I was steadily losing weight every single day and then at 3 weeks it stopped. The scale has remained the same for the whole week, despite me doing nothing different. I still have a long ways to go. It does make me nervous because I've done many very low calorie diets in the past and my body adjusts to the lower calories and then stops losing. I asked my surgeon about this before surgery to make sure the same wouldn't happen and he said he didn't think it would. I'm hoping this is just the 3 week stall that people have spoken about. Does anyone know WHY a lot of people stall at 3 weeks? Is there any way to help break it? How long does it typically last? Holly
  8. I'm 15 days post-op. I stalled at exactly 10 days and haven't lost anything since then. I'm assuming the 3 week stall came a little early for us. The scale will eventually move again :-)

    No loss

And don't forget the inevitable 3 week stall as your body adjusts to all of the changes. You might want to do some research in this regard. There is lots of information on this site about it and it's good to know what you are getting into ahead of time. There will be lots of stops and starts along the way. One week you'll lose pounds, the next you might lose inches and the next .... nothing. But every day you follow your plan, you will feel so much better than you did before your surgery. Excercise. Listen to your NUT and don't compare your journey to any else. We're all different but this wonderful tool we have been given works when we use it the right way. So excited for you and your journey!

    Just here to gripe

Don't stress what you can't control right now. It's the 3 week stall. Here's the scientific reason why it happens: A "stall" a few weeks after surgery is not uncommon, and here's why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs. of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when a patient is not getting in enough food, the body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. Then when 2 lbs. of glycogen is used a patient will also lose 8 lbs. of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs. that most people lose in the first week of a diet. However, when the body stays in a caloric deficit state the body starts to realize that this is not a short-term problem. Then the body starts mobilizing fat from adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But the body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. As it puts back the 2 lbs. of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs. of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though the patient might still be losing energy content to their body, the weight will not go down or it might even gain for a while as the retention of water dissolves the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.

    Any 7/14's- post op?

Same here! What was your BMI starting out? I've been told & read repeatedly that lower BMI's drop weight slower. Then you know there's the legendary 3 week stall that can last for weeks. Hang in there. I've stopped going on the scale bc I'd feel discouraged. I now only weigh once per week. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Weight Stalled

Sounds like your 3 week stall hit later than 3 weeks. I hit a stall at 3 weeks that lasted for 2.5. Just started losing again yesterday. Your body is in a state of shock and trying to deal with what to do. I shook mine up by limiting carbs and making sure to stay under 700 calories. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

@@jersey0601 So far not too bad, I've definitely hit my 3 week stall, but I'm glad I'm not solely on liquids any more!! I've been doing a lot of walking, trying to stay somewhat low impact, but I've been using light hand weights to help with upper body. ⛵️♌️

    Protein, Bariatric Vitamin, Stall

I'm nervous about weighing in when I get home. I don't want to hit the dreaded 3 week stall! If you stay off the scale for several weeks, you can sail through your 3 week stall without ever knowing about it. I highly recommend it!

    Protein, Bariatric Vitamin, Stall

My surgery was the day after yours. I too had trouble taking my Vitamins. I tried taking them before meals, after meals, in between meals, and every time I got extremely nauseated and even vomited once. Thankfully, I think I figured it out a few days ago. I eat about 1/3 of my meal, take vitamin, eat another 1/3, take rest of vitamins, finish meal. This has been working wonders! By the way, my vitamins are chewable, so I'm not drinking during meals. I left my house for vacation 4 days ago. This is the first time I haven't been weighing myself daily. I'm nervous about weighing in when I get home. I don't want to hit the dreaded 3 week stall! I hope these tips are helping and your stall ends soon!
  17. Ugh ! I'm in the 2-3 week stall and trying not to be severely depressed . All my effort and money and and a scale hasn't moved in a week no matter what I do ! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My first post op weigh in..

Don't get discouraged. I did not start losing for a good 6 days. You are so bloated from surgery. I'm now 4 weeks out and have lost 16+ lbs. I was lower BMI so the loss is s bit slower. I also hit a 2-3 week stall. It's very real. This process is definitely not easy and your body has to heal first! You will do good. Just keep at it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. Same as you. 4 weeks post op today and have lost like 16 lbs. but most of it was in the first week and a half. I know the 2-3 week stall is so real but hard to digest it for sure. Hoping to see the scale moving again Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. First 2 weeks post op I had lost 16 pounds...then stall. Was so happy to see that I lost 1.8 pounds at my 3 week post op mark today.... Wanna talk about joy.. that 2-3 week stall is real I'm cruising on this journey.. (even though I wanna speed). Sent from my SM-G920T using the BariatricPal App

    plz help

Hi there! Congratulation on getting through surgery. You are likely in the midst of the 3 week stall which is very common. It would be helpful to know your current diet, Water intake and Protein intake. Are you getting a minimum of 64 oz. of fluids every day? That is the number 1 most important factor post surgery following by ensuring you are getting the appropriate protein. You should have 1 gram for every inch you are tall. If you are hitting both of those goals every day and sticking to a well balanced high protein lower carb (veggies & Fruit) you will lose weight. It is nearly impossible not to. Most people do not understand the importance of water and protein until they get stuck and then they start hitting those goals and the weight comes off. Best of luck to you.
  22. Yep, we usually call it the 3 week stall. Sounds like you got an extra week! Stalls are just part of it. You will hit many. Hopefully, it won't be as many as I did. Just keep doing what you are supposed to be doing and it will come off.
  23. I am open to "newbie" advice. Even though they may not necessarily have 1st hand experience or long term experience, there still can be a lot of merit to their answers based upon their research or other people they spoke with who are further along post WLS. As with anyone's answers, "veteran" or "newbie" it is still sometimes best to research further (or ask a healthcare professional if necessary). As far as "veterans" are concerned, maybe they have answered many of the same questions numerous times before, such as "are 3 week stalls normal", "I am not getting enough Protein, what are good sources of protein", "how much Water should I drink", etc., so they don't reply as frequently.
  24. I have not been to see my doctor or nut since my staples were removed a week after surgery. I have not weighed myself since like week 4 (now at week 8 ). I have an appointment with both my surgeon and nut next Friday. But wanted to ask is it possible that im not eating enough calories? or enough of the right things? I ditched the scale because of the dreaded 3 week stall and I don't feel or see a difference in weight at all. I aim for 80g of Protein a day and usually get between 60-80. staying under 30gm of carbs and getting right around or under 800 calories a day. Im not having bm regularly only once a week tops, and that's with help of either a softener or enema. So I guess I said all that to say this, Any suggestion would be great ....

    Late June Sleeve Buddies?

@@Seastars You said "I just didn't think losing weight with the sleeve would be this hard. I read posts about the three-week stall, but that's AFTER someone loses, like, 30 pounds or so!" My 3 week stall was at 23 lbs, and I started with a BMI of 41 and no pre-op diet so no weight loss. My high weight was my day of surgery weight. I'm in my 5th week and still not at 30 lbs lost. And don't forget that men tend to lose faster than women, especially if they start at a much higher weight. Hang in there...I'm still eating 500-600 cals/day, I can't get to 800 and I think it may be inhibiting my weight loss. I'm walking, using the elliptical, doing some arm and leg weight work, etc...it'll come off.
