    RNY maintenance calories?

I'm still trying to find my maintenance calorie level. After I got to goal, I added 50 calories per day every month, then 100 calories per day until my weight loss slowed down. I am in my 60s, moderately active, but no formal work out. I'm currently at 1100 to 1200 calories with a few days eating 1400 and still losing weight, albeit slowly.

    pre surgery non scale victory

You're doing so well!!! You're already much lower in weight and bmi going into surgery than I was. You'll be awesome afterwards if you're this disciplined now. I can't wait to see the changes in your life and body and health once you're on the other side of it. Keep going!!!

    Re-sleeve

I had a sleeve in 2011. I had an Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty revision two weeks ago because I gained 45 of the 100 I lost back and was struggling with my sleeve. It was stretched a bit and I was eating too many carbs. I had to do something. So far I am on full liquids and its going well. Its like a resleeve but they do it from the inside with sutures so Its not as invasive. Easy recovery. I had some gas pains but they were not that bad. By day three I was doing really good. I had it on a Thursday and went back to work Monday.
  4. Hi all. I used this forum for support during my VSG journey. It took me 13 months to get to goal. I was 234 and made it to 135 in 2012. I kept that off for the most part for about 7 years but slowly gained 10 pounds a year for the last few years. I weighed 177 when I had ESG revision two weeks ago tomorrow. I have lost to 169 so far. I want to be a part of this forum again. It helped me so much the first time. I only have 35 pounds to lose now. I hope to make it there by February. About 6 months. Who else has had this done? I am retaining fluid because Im on full liquids and they are salty! I am struggling to get the water in like usual but Im making a more concerted effort this time. Let me know if any one else has had this or is interested in it. Thanks guys!
  5. Hi everyone, So just want some feedback as I weighed in today and started pureed food 1 week ago. I have 6.2lbs back of the 11lbs I lost the first 2 weeks. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? As anyone else experienced this?
  6. I am a high BMI girl (over 60 ) but have changed my diet, worked on eating disorders and just tried to change my life this year. Been doing pre op keto diet since late august waiting on my surgery date. Down 70 lbs this year so yay there.. My NSV was my wardrobe changes! i was buying mostly size 34 shirts ( a few bigger). I saw a shirt on amazon that i liked that was biggest at size 28. I ordered it for “later” after surgery- but as a lark i tried it on and it fit quite well!! I wore it yesterday and got asked for the first time if I had lost weight. Guess clothes that fit make a difference;) I went and ordered four more size 28 shirts. If they fit too, I am going to purge most of those size 34 and higher and never look back! I am trying to get below 60 BMI for surgery (somewhat a stall right now, but that’s ok - i am staying steady) but I am really enjoying this victory!!!
  7. I ended up waiting almost two years from when I first reached out to my center, because of concerns about complications if I went a self pay route. I could for sure have written a check but I wanted the additional peace of mind. I was really annoyed at first about the waiting period and hoops I had to jump through to get qualified but in retrospect I’m glad I had them. I ended up losing weight prior to surgery, which helped me get ready for the lifestyle change and be more prepared for recovery, and I had enough time to be certain over and over that I was making the right call. I understand once a decision is made that it is frustrating to wait, but honestly if you have the option to get insurance to pay I’d always go that route. Also glad I didn’t fork out the cash for self pay because 2 years post op I ended up using those funds for skin removal, haha.

    Body odor?

I can relate to this! I'm 10 weeks (2+ months) post-op and I was wondering the same thing, but I thought it was just me, so thank you for bringing this topic up! I now can eat more fruits/veg along with my protein, so its going away. I'm still not 100% on normal food though. I was so worried that I wasn't keeping myself clean, which I knew couldn't be the case because with my weight loss so far, its EASIER to take a shower and all that!

    BED and psych clearance

I'm not sure there's an official definition all surgeons use. I think it's up to the individual assessment and the say of your mental health providers. If they don't give the green light, the doc definitely won't either. I was diagnosed with an eating disorder and bipolar a couple months before my surgery. The surgeon told me that excludes me from being a candidate but I begged and swore I was doing the work and would continue to for the rest of my life. We came up with a plan where I'd be on a supervised eating plan for a minimum of 3 months (actually we went to about 6 months and I believe I was officially approved after 5 months). Along with the plan came nutritional visits twice a month and while he didn't give me a weight loss goal, I had to be losing weight steadily, their recommendation was .5-1 lb a week. And then with that he said I needed to be in therapy (which I already was) so i gave him my psychologists info and continued working on my eating patterns with her and provide evidence of that. Then finally I had to pass their psychological evaluation. I also had to provide proof I was adhering to my antipsychotic meds. I ended up losing 30 lbs in 6 months which was a good sign, found the cause of my binging, and developed my coping mechanisms by using them daily. I'm 6 months post op now and have lost 100+ lbs. I did not binge after my surgery, in fact the physiological changes coupled with the intensive therapy, it's not something my body or brain craves anymore. Sometimes my brain wants to eat things because it remembers how good they tasted but it's never in excess and I feel like I can really taste things now. I did binge once during the pre op diet but it was a mini binge brought on by fear and hunger and I got right back on that horse. It's possible to have the surgery with BED. It's a big mountain to climb but work on finding your ideal treatment team specifically for surgery support and show the doc and your program that you're ready by sticking to a routine, being open about your victories and failures with your team, and giving it your all! I am personally a strong believer that weight loss surgery also might really help treat BED but I understand it has to be controlled especially in the early stages of post op life as it can put you in harms way. Best of luck! Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. 14 lbs in three weeks is actually fabulous - esp after a revision since weight loss is typically slower after revisions than it is after virgin surgeries. I don't know why you wouldn't be able to lose more weight if you really work at it (which it sounds like you're doing). Don't give up yet!
  11. 15lb in three weeks while healing is pretty good as far as I am concerned regardless of surgery date weight. Is your profile up todate? It shows your current weight as 245lb.

Went to see my doctor today....

I'm actually enjoying it I'm on the last week of my last class, and I just got hired at a new company with pay that is $22k per year more than I was making before (and I was already making good money). But as much as I love all of that, the weight and health improvements I'm seeing are so, so much better. I can always find another job, or finish a degree. But I can't get another me. You know?
  13. I am 3 weeks post-op revision from sleeve to bypass. I have only lost 14 lbs in total since surgery. I have been following my plan and increasing my protein. I brought up my concerns at my follow up and the surgeon said I most likely will not lose anymore weight. I am extremely frustrated and discouraged. Only thing is my gerd is better but I am and was hoping for additional weight loss since I gained about 50 lbs since my original sleeve surgery 5 years ago.. due to pregnancy and gerd. Anyone else in this boat or experience this on their journey that can help me out!
  14. Hi guys! I got my sleeve in 2015 and never really felt any restriction. I counted calories and was able to drop 60 lbs my first 3 months… and then my life exploded. The stress I was under made counting calories impossible. I still ate healthy foods for the most part but I stalled out for a full year and then slowly the weight started creeping back until I was only 15 lbs below my starting weight. Well, now my GERD is pretty bad and my father has esophageal cancer so I need a revision as much as I don’t want to go under the knife again. The thing is, I’m currently 86 lbs down from presurgery weight in 2015 and I keep losing! Ozempic and these other injectable meds for diabetes are game changers! I wish they had come up with this stuff decades ago! Of course between the GERD and the side effects I’m often nauseous if not throwing up on occasion but I’m hoping my revision will help with some of that. Has anyone else combined Ozempic (Wegovy) with a revision to RNY? My doc says I can keep taking it after surgery but at $300 plus international shipping I’m hoping I won’t need to!
  15. Yes and I do thank you for your response. That may be due to situations of stretching the pouch but the gastric fundas doesn’t apply to that as I was told but regardless of overeating the pouch itself will eventually stretch but this doesn’t apply to me because my weight is of the same with a couple pounds of gain due to an unrelated surgical procedure(fibroids) but now it’s more so constantly losing due to inability to swallow but no blockage according to the endoscopy. To answer your question, the fundus is retained. Never was removed or wasn’t removed as it was supposed to be. Immediately post op I had within weeks gas, bloating, stomach pangs, etc while still losing weight. The fund as itself have created more health issues with severe acid reflux and dysphasia.

    Hunger crushed and taste change

My hunger came back gradually at around 7 months I think. It's pretty hard to ignore now but usually a small portion of protein will sort it fairly quickly. I love deli meats but bought ones are so salty - I roast chicken and keep it in a tub in the fridge almost all the time. A couple of pieces of that and my stomach shuts up again! As the others have said, enjoy this phase - it does feel strange but it's when I lost weight most quickly and I do wish it had lasted just a little longer. Sigh.
  17. My name is Jose and I am from the UK, I had a gastric bypass a month ago so I am at the beginning of my weight loss journey.

I would like to know how many calories I should be eating a day to stay healthy, thank you for your time

Hello Joset, why haven't you been given a diet plan? Did you have your surgery in the UK? Every surgeon has a different diet, and no two people are on the same one. Weird I know. Contact your team if you can

Mine was two weeks clear liquids

Two weeks on soups, milk shakes and broths all with out lumps

      two weeks on pureed foods { I couldn't stomach this step }

two weeks on soft foods like Protein yogurt, stewed mince and veg, soft scrambled eggs. Pate on hard crackers

Then onto any food I fancied. If you struggle on any step or with any foods go back a step for a few days. Eggs, salmon and chicken are hard for beginners.

Sorry I missed your original post, hope you are still on here.

  18. I am married to a wonderful husband but he could careless what size I am so he is neutral on anything related to weight. My family are all asking and live across the nation and we rarely speak except happy birthday, Merry Christmas... Etc. so I think I would classify myself as going through it alone. No true support system but no adversity from family or others since I do keep to myself. I prefer it this way, to do it alone, to cook, log and track. I find it more difficult if I had to take care of kids or people who do not have dietary restrictions. If I need support, I have you all. As far as right after post op. I slept for day one and was fine after that.

    August surgery buddies!

It's pretty amazing when you calculate the numbers! even though when I look in the mirror and I KNOW I've lost over 50Lbs so far AND my measurements tell me I have lost 17 inches off my body, it's still hard to believe. I look for more non-scale victories than the scale. The scale is only but ONE metric in my arsenal. I actually had a person I don't see very often stop me in the grocery store and looked me up and down and asked if I was sick! I said no, do I look sick? She said no, you don;t, but you look really different. I then said, well I decided to get healthy and went on a diet and have lost quite a bit of weight. I didn't feel the need to tell her anything about my surgery, because she's a busybody. But the encounter made me feel good despite her weirdness and approach. Trust the process, call your nutritionist if you have questions. Just smile at yourself everyday and know YOU ARE AWESOME!!
  20. Hello to all. I had a Gastric Sleeve in 2019. Yes I’m old to this but here’s my problem and please to the newbies or to those who are thinking of having a Gastric sleeve, make sure the surgeon completely remove your fundus. The Gastric fundus prohibits inferior weights loss. I loss approximately 85 pounds within a 3 years time because of this and went into complete stalling. The surgeons kept over telling me I’m overeating which I told them I’m not. I just now found out my fundus is intake and wasn’t removed. I’ve been so sick from 2019 til present (2022) with stomach issues but CT scans during my emergency room visits shortly after surgery all come back normal. Nonetheless, I just suffered and stop trying to seek help until this year my acid reflux and swallowing started to interfere with my daily life. So the ER suggested a ENDOSCOPY in which the results come back as A Gastric Fundus is Generous and Mild Gastric lining Thickening. After researching, I found that the gastric sleeve was supposedly be removed. I don’t want any more revisions of surgeries but to not be sick, I will decide on it. Again, please inquire of this. Do your research on the topic of a “Retained Gastric Fundus” after weight loss surgery. Have anybody dealt with this and if so, what did you do? Lets be of help to one another with truth and honesty.

    set goal weight

OK, i found it. Go to your name, then "my surgery" and you can get there to set your weight numbers. Wow, they hid that. Of course, updates to your weight are at the bottom of the column on the right on any given page.

  24. Thank you for sharing. I've been very depressed about my weight loss. I started at 258 November.. now 189. I've not lost any weight in 3 months. I know I'm not eating enough. I am not able to workout due to health issues. I just can't go down anymore. In so scared of being like I was again. I can't afford to keep going to the nutritionist to tell me to eat more. I really try.. so discouraged Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Six months

Whelp six months post op tomorrow! I still do not have "hunger" but I find myself more snacky over the last few weeks. It is annoying. I still stay within my plan limits 98% of the time, sometimes going over my calories (within 100) but usually with still healthier snacks and foods. I have been eating out more because life is so crazy and hectic right now, which I need to chill there too. We are going to Florida/Disney the first week of October so I will be forced to eat out then, which is just another reason to stop now. Overall I really don't have any complaints. No issues, and still kicking butt. I see my surgeon for my 6 month check up next week and I am still ahead of the predicted weight loss chart he gave me. I am JUST NOW starting to really see my weight loss in full body pictures. Even more so since I have been wearing clothes that fit rather than huge and falling off. Tons of friends have been commenting and sending me inspiring messages or when they see me say something. It is kind of nice that people are noticing the work I am putting in. Regardless of that, when I saw pictures of myself from the weekend I was like WHOA who is this person?!?! Flipside, I look like a half deflated water balloon naked. 😂😝 HAHA! KEEP GOING PEOPLE- WE GOT THIS! 6 months and hit 100 lbs loss today since surgery and 137 total!
