    How much?

I've heard alot of different things. The most consistant thing I've heard is 800, but really, your doc would give you the best input here. I eat between 700 and 1200 per day... depending on the level of activity. I have started lifting weights and feel the need to "recover" some days. I think varying caloric intake can help with stalls too. Some people seem to really love the low carb route... I don't feel well when I restrict carbs so I eat some complex carbs like steel cut oatmeal and sweet potatos. I really think though... if you don't want to count every ounce.... if you just follow the rule of Protein first...then veggies, you'll do fine. good luck stacey

    Where to begin?

honeyg317 sure is overwhelming you have already started - and you are headed on the road to a healthier, happier, longer life everything you've learned so far..from your NUT/doc.............listen, listen, listen, then "obey" all the rules!!!!! practice stopping drinking about 15 minutes before you eat never drinking with your meal not drinking for about 45 minutes after you eat drinking at least 64 oz of H20 a day practice eating slowly chewing thoroughly to pieces little bites putting utensils down between bites continue to stay excited/later anxious nervous prior to WLS - good emotions do your exercises per doc lose the necessary 10 lbs really important............. realize you must be patient through your weight loss - people lose at different rates, and some/most/ALL people will have stalls do what you are supposed to do.........the weight can't help but come off good luck with pending surgery speedy recovery kathy God Grant Me Patience, Just Hurry Up About It
  4. Hey everyone.........I was banded on June 2nd and loving it so far!!! Since I started my diet two weeks prior to surgery until now, I have lost 30lbs! I have leveled off the last few days though since I am eating a little more solid type soft foods and exercising to put some muscle back that I lost at first. I get my first fill on 7/24/08 and am looking forward to it. If anyone has any suggestions for me to help me with my diet and the type of foods to eat between now and my first fill.............bring it on! I appreciate all suggestions!:tt1:

    Low Carb Anyone?

I am following the South Beach Diet; it makes the most sense to me and allows healthy carbs in stage 2, which is the long term weight loss stage. My doctor loves the South Beach, he said most health professionals who go on a diet use it. With the band to help with portion control, it's a great way to eat healthy and stay on track with weight loss. I also read recently that plateau's are a natural part of every diet and to expect periods of 1-4 weeks when no weight is lost. The writer claims this is a period of time when the body is looking after other things, liver cleansing etc., and to just continue with your plan and eventually the weight loss will continue. She cautions that people who have a lot to lose 100+ pounds, should expect at least 4-5 plateau periods.

Hello. You are correct - signing up is all you have to do to get started. However, once you sign up your program is active. You can put it on hold 1 time during the entire 10 weeks and it cannot be on hold for more than 14 days. What I did was register and set everything up. Then I downloaded their book (chapter by chapter) and printed it out so I could read it before I actually started the program. Anyhew - I wasn't able to start when I had planned on it and am heading up north at the end of next week to visit family and attend a birthday party. SO, I have decided to not bother starting until I return on the 27th. In fact, it probably won't be until the following week so that I have some time to prepare. I'm also gonna try to get the hubby to join me, which may be interesting. Luckily, I'm not doing too bad food wise as it is. However, I do think that the Lindora program will really help me to kick my efforts up a notch. I've been exercising either 4 or 5 days a week at the gym (40 min. on the treadmill and some ab woke) and was excited because I thought I was getting healthier, etc... Then this past Saturday rolled around. OMG - the hubby & I got out our tennis stuff and headed to the courts. I thoght I was gonna die. It was so much more exhausting than I EVER remember it being. Then came Sunday....I was and still am sore in places thatI didn't even know I had muscles.!!! It's just insane. So, I think that once I get back from PA and get meals planned for at least one week - then I'll begin my 10 week trek (I'm thinking May 4th). In the meantime, if anyone has tried the program yet, please let me know as I'm anxious to hear people's experiences with it. Thanks again!

My doctor told me about it on a recent visit. All you need to get signed up is your surgery date, the doctor didn'thave to do anything to activate it. It looks really interesting to me. It also includes two nurse phone calls during the 10 weeks. I'm starting on Monday. Why don't you do it too and we can support each other? Maybe we can get other Bandsters to do it too? Britt

    I need some help!

donali, thank you! I really needed to evaluate what I am eating! I will try using the Fit Day website for a little while. Hopefully that will help and I will remember to do it every day! I am not doing that great with the excercise thing! I do play basketball for 2 and 1/2 hours twice a week, but I do need to do something more. I will be going to our local YMCA from now on. Thanks to all who responded, hopefully this reevaluation of my eating and excericising habits will help. And no, my surgeon is in Mexico and the doctor doing my fills is a few states away so they aren't real close to help. I guess I just need a kick in the butt so that I can get back into the swing of the Band. I guess it would also help to come back to LapBandTalk more often. Thank you guys very much! --Kylie
  10. They just moved to WV -she had her LB done in Beaumont. She has been a great source of info. We are both about 5'1" and have started this journey above 200. She was right at 240 at the time of her surgery and is down by 75 pounds - but she has not had a fill in over a year. She is actually waiting until life is settled now that they have moved. I am meeting with my surgeon next week and will weigh in at 230. Good luck with the guinea pig thing. I would think being part of the "team" they will do everything they can to make sure your procedure is picture perfect. Not they won't for every other patient but being one of the own has to count for something.

    wow, this is going fast!!!

Congrats Cootie, I know you must be on cloud 9. Sometimes I wished I would have had some patience and let BC/BS do they're thing and pay for it instead of my not being able to wait and pay myself. I admire you. You will also be amazed at how fast the week or two goes by and then the day of surgery seems like it lasts for 15 min. It'll be over before you know it and you will be asking us about fills, I did. Good luck and congrats on everything going so smoothly. If you have any questions at all feel free to ask or pm me or any of us. I also have lots of pictures before during and after and of the fills themselves.
  12. Good news: It's been 6 months and I've lost 44 lbs. Slow but steady is working for me. Met an amazing man, pretty sure he's the ONE. My new office is going great. It's been a very positive 6 months. Bad news: About a week ago I started being rudely awaken at 4-5am in the morning with terrible chest pains. I have to rub my chest, walk around, and burp repeatedly to feel better. What's that all about???? Is it something I'm eating? Am I eating too late? It hasn't happened every night but enough to make me wonder what's going on. Anyone else have this issue? All my gas pains from surgery have been long gone. This seems to be something new! Any ideas?

    Can I have salad?

Thanks everyone, sounds like I could try it soon, but I will try to wait until three months out to be safe. The salad that I love at Panera has the most moist chicken, also has nuts, so I would focus on that part with just some lettuce, oh, has cheese too, I think Goats or gorgonzola, can't remember. But I am in love with that salad. I just wanted a guideline as to when to have it, so now I have that. Thanks again
  14. So today is is day 3 since my sugery and I am feeling pretty good.. I am like ready to start life again. Has anyone ever started back in a week? How did you feel? I was thinking about only doing half of days and my overnight job. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App
  15. I've been reading the boards for about a week now. My parents have been offering to pay for LapBand for about 3 years now and I've always said no. This last time I agreed to make an appointment with every intention of going and just saying "Nope not for me" and hopefully being done with it. There was just something I either didn't trust or didn't appeal to me with the lap band. I couldn't quite put my finger on it at the time but after reading a lot of the band war stories on here.. it's kind of obvious now why it didn't appeal to me. Anyhow, I stumbled across this board in my reading up on the lap band and I have to say I think this is something I can live with. It goes with what I think intellectually about how I *should* be eating (but can't since the demon in my tummy that says "FEED ME" is running wild and can't be controlled anymore). It sounds like you guys have taken control of mind over matter when it comes to food. I have my first appointment to see the dr on Wednesday and I couldn't be more thrilled and excited (and hopeful too). What should I expect for the first visit? What does he do? These boards have been a wealth of knowledge and I have to thank yall for opening my mind to the sleeve. I'm 32 and I've been REALLY heavy since about..2000? Before that, all through jr high, high school and my early 20s I was relatively thin (thought I was fat though.. oh hindsight how you shame me!). I'm tired of being heavy and making sound effects whenever I get up lol. I'd like to go to Disney World and buy whatever tshirt I darn well please rather than looking all over the place for that elusive 3/4x. I want to ride Space Mountain and not have visions of needing the jaws of life to pry me out of that itty bitty car. I also just want to feel good in my skin again and I've not felt that way in a VERY.LONG.TIME. Sen

    What is 5:2

So this would not be a good thing for someone who is like me, at a stall??? I'm having a hard time breaking through to be at 100 pounds lost...
  17. Hi everyone, My story in a nutshell is I started my process in October 2009 and everything is complete. I expected to have my surgery in May 2010 however my health insurance put up a road block to make me wait until January 2011. I have a follow up with my surgeon on January 4th and they will submit it back through insurance at that point and I should hear back within that week. I have no other road blocks they can put up so it should be a sure thing! I've been waiting and counting the days down until now and it's FINALLY HERE! I've been mentally prepared and managed to maintain my weight and drop 5 additional lbs since my last appointment in May. I've heard maintaining your goal weight is one of the hardest things after everything is said and done. I'm ready to get the show on the road!! :-)

    questions

As you are not eating a lot do you have energy for excersise and general living etc? I have two young kids and go to the gym 4-5days a week. I need energy. I have alot of energy and I am 2 weeks out. The first week, not so much and every once in a while I've done too much, but a lot more energy without caffine! Secondly how is life after the weightloss.? Do you still enjoy goong out for dinner/lunch/coffees etc? I just started back on food and I went out for dinner last night and lunch today with coworkers. Its a little odd at first, but nothing too strange. I just have alot of leftovers Most people with partners order one meal and they take a small portion from the plate for themselves. Saves money and you're not wasting it. Thirdly how slow do you really have to eat? Is it a pain? You have to be conscious about how you eat, buts its not extremely slow. Practice eating like this: take a bite of something, chew it as much as possible, swallow, put your utensil down for 10 seconds, pick it up again and then do it again. Do you miss not heing able to eat a lot? Do you still want to and you just cant? Or does soms of the desire disapear? This is where your mind plays tricks on you. I am absolutely never hungry, but I know I have to eat. Then again there were times when I wasn't hungry and I ate, like if I was bored, etc. I catch myself more now than I did preop. I am more aware of my feelings and this is a process, not everyone is perfect. Do you have to drink slow? Yes, I sip my water. If I noticed I took in a large amount I either slowly traffic it down or spit it out.

    Hungry after 3 weeks

I'll be 3 weeks tomorrow and while I definitely can eat more than I am supposed to I'm also definitely as hungry as I used to be. I'm trying to eat 3 small (but not small enought) soft/healthy meals, late morning I break out the string cheese and late afternoon I eat a small low fat yogurt...it seems to be the magic combo that will keep me from grazing until my next meal....I don't know what else to tell ya, it will get better, just do your best and be patient! Good luck!

    What to expect?

Thank you!! I should have mentioned that I will have my Psych eval done this week. I knew of all the requirements and set to work getting those done and ready. I just think I should have done it all while consulting with the dr simultaneously rather than checking items off a list and then calling to make my appointments. And here I thought my organization was being helpful.
  22. Hey guys, I don't know if this should be in 'complications' but I wasn't sure, so.... I'm wondering something... I'm trying to decide how I want to go about taking these caplets (is that what its called when a powder is encased in a 2 piece gelatinous 'shell'?) If I were to swallow them whole... and they got stuck.... would they not just dissolve eventually with a little Water? And if they didn't get stuck, but just sat in my 'pouch' for a a while til they were washed out... wouldn't they dissolve enough to slide through as well? I shouldn't bother asking, cause I did it anyways... I held them in my mouth long enough to get the gel coating really soft, then swallowed. I have to take 3 at a time, 3 times a day... and the powder inside tastes really nasty, so I'm trying to get around it.... In case anyone's wondering what the heck I'm taking that I need 9 a day... it's "Cold FX". I don't know if you have it in the US or not, but its supposed to be a 'cold remedy'... and I decided to give it a try. I know, I'm a sucker. I'm supposed to take 3, 3 times a day for one day, then 2, 3 times a day for one day, then 1, 3 times a day for one day. I'll let ya know if it helps. I've had this damn cough for a week, and I just want it to go away!

    3 WEEK STALL?

The three week stall is so common. I am sure there are threads on this forum and others devoted to nothing else. I did not have it (and I was expecting to), but based on what I have seen, I might be in the minority. Folks say to simply stay on track with your program and it will break. You are so early post-op it is not anything anything you did or didn't do. It is your body adjusting.

    3 WEEK STALL?

I am 3 weeks post op and i have been at a stall for almost 2 weeks it makes me wonder if i am going 2 loose anymore sometimes :/ hopefully it picks up soon its making me nervous
  25. Went back to work last Monday, got told had company trip and needed to reschedule, called and they tell me it 6 weeks out to new appt. So IM 3 weeks out, plus 6 weeks = BS. Anyone else have to wait 9 weeks? Do not go to rocky mountain save. Physicians... They treat you like they could careless.
