    Soft Foods

That depends...what type of salad are you referring to? Moist meat salads, which include tuna, egg, dark meat chicken or turkey mixed with mayonnaise were on my allowed foods for the soft foods stage, Weeks 4 and 5 of my post op diet.. Raw salad veggies were not on my approved list of foods until I was 6 weeks post op. I was advised to have only dark leafy greens, so I began returning to raw vegetables with raw spinach. I have since transitioned to romaine lettuce for my daily salad. Every surgeon seems to have some variation of their approved list of foods; it's always the best idea to consult with your surgeon about your diet.

pregnant at 44 after sleeve surgery

Wow. Congrats. I struggled with fertility issues for years. I was sleeved 6/15 (lost almost 100 pounds and gained back around 15) and was shocked a couple of weeks ago to find out that I was pregnant - currently 11wks4days. I'm 42 and this is my first child. I'm convinced the sleeve caused my weight loss and that helped tremendously. My hubby and I had given up on having kids. So, congratulations again!!!
  3. wondering what the experience has been for any women at my age of 44 who have been sleeved, just found out im 6 weeks pregnant and in shock

    July 16th Sleeve Date

Wow I can't believe you are back to work! I am out for six weeks. I do a lot of heavy lifting, pushing, & pulling so my dr reccomended me to stay out longer. I don't think I would have the energy for it right now never mind the strength. Make sure you take it easy, don't try to do so much all at once. Your body is still healing. 25 lbs is awesome!!! Congrats...I'm trying to only weigh myself once a week on Wednesdays it's hard to wait but I'm trying. I never thought I would excited to go on the scale!lol

    Stuck food

My team also mentioned this. I found that being upright and walking helped the feeling pass more quickly. Sitting still seemed to make the stuck feeling last longer. Even so sometimes I end up throwing it up. I am one year out from my surgery and still can't eat poultry in any form except for ground turkey or chicken. Every attempt ended in misery. Your best bet is to avoid it for a week or two before trying it again. Make sure it is chopped up small and moistened, take VERY small bites, chew, chew, chew, and wait for a bit between bites. If it still happens you may be someone who can't eat it, at least for now. Try cooked ground turkey/chicken. You may tolerate it better. :-)

    Group Health Approvals

I'm curious as well. I have an appointment with my GH doctor on the 14th for my referral. I've heard that it could take upwards of two years to get the procedure done though. I'm hoping that is NOT the case. So hopefully I'll have some more answers in a couple weeks, but until then.....I worry!!

    New Goal 12-21-06

I weighed 190.6 this a.m. My new goal is to be safely under 190 by Christmas morning. That will make 60 lbs. in 5 months 3 weeks. WOW
  8. I just uploaded a few photos from a wedding I attended over the weekend. I know I have lost weight since my surgery last Sept but not really noticed. After uploading I was looking at my picture the day before my surgery. I see how unhappy I looked and my size. Now I see a confident woman who looks pretty good. I am not trying to be cocky so please don't take it that way. I have lost almost 50lbs and still have a ways to go. I suddenly see the changes by uploading a few photos. Everyone should have photos every couple of weeks/months. What a difference 10months can make. Wow.

I'm 6 weeks out and my NUT said I was cleared for all foods. I have to say I feel horrible today. My stomach just feels sick and sour feeling... I got worried and started reading my notebook from Dr. And it says no raw veggies or beef til 3 months. -__- I had meat (pepperoni slices) and small baby carrots yesterday. I'm worried.

    Juicing

I've been banded for about 18 months now. I've pretty much have hit the plateau 25 pounds shy if where I want to be. I'm not freaking out or anything because I know this is the time of being banded is getting real. I have 13cc in a 14cc band. With that amount if restriction it is difficult to eat 3 meals a day a d sustain a energy level I desire. So, I've started Juicing. I've been drinking a vegetable/fruit cornucopia twice a day. And, FYI, I believe it is really working. I've lost about 5 pounds in 2 weeks and when buckling my belt, I go to the last hole.

    Weight Stalls

Hello! I am currently a college student and I had surgery on March 14,2017. I have lost 25 lbs since my surgery. My body has went in complete shock. Two or three weeks after my surgery I had a period.... because of my birth control, I haven't had a period for amount SIX YEARS. During that week my weight was all over the place. Now that I am about one month and a week out, I feel like my weight lost is not where it should be. I have been working out almost every day since I had surgery but the weight is not falling off like everyone else. I don't know what is going on. Can someone help me!!!
  12. What is stage 2? My stage one will be clear liquids for 2 weeks. Then weeks 3-4 & perhaps 5 is full liquids, I have to wait until I get released to pureed, then soft, then regular foods. You are two weeks out and eating solids already or is liquids that hurt.
  13. Through reading here and doing my own thinking, I have decided I'm going to try to avoid the scale. I don't think I even want to put up a ticker. I just think I want to avoid getting into the battle with the scale, seeing a number I want, etc. Back in the old days, we'd go to WW once a week and get on the scale there, and that was how we did it. I don't know if I can stick to this, but I am going to try. Once a week weigh-ins, that's it. Who's with me? Monday morning seems the obvious choice, or a Friday morning. Hmmm...

When did you start eating meat?

I started eating beef jerky around week 12. I started off with the shredded jerky, my NUT wasn't so sure, but I told her I had already been eating the jerky for a week or two. A few weeks after that I started eating the nuggets. I have yet to try a piece of steak or pork, mainly because I just don't have a desire to, same goes for chicken.
  15. I have moved in the last four years and the only local physician in-network has stopped placing Lap Band... She actually talks negatively about it. Needless to say, I didn't go back. It has been three years since my last follow up and I am failing. I have never lost more than 15 pounds with the band, but it did not come back. My last visit I had a stretched esophagus so they took the fluid out of the band to heal the esophagus. I want to see a new physician and I am looking for someone close with a good reputation in the Hershey/Harrisburg area (17033). I would like to get back on track and If that isn't possible I am willing to consider other options. I am also currently having some heartburn after having the Flu and Bronchitis and fear something might have happened with all the coughing. Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated.

    Cold ALL The Time!

I am so glad I saw this because I will be two weeks out tomorrow and before surgery I was always hot and freezing everyone out of the house but now I am always freezing!!! Laying here freezing with two blankets as I speak!

    Freshly Sleeved

At two weeks my NUT said she was more concerned about the protien intake than the calories. She said we didn't have to pay too close attention to it quite yet because she doubted we could even get in that much and gave us a 900 max. However, she was right, even when I think I have eaten more in one day, when I add up the calories I am still under 500 and I am 4 weeks now. Just can't fit in that much yet. It's really hard to get 600 calories in (when you are eating the right kind of foods anyway) So I just focus on the protien and try to make every bite count. I'm sure once the diet is back to regular solids and she wants me to try and consume more calories I will have to figure that out without adding too many carbs and fats.

    Fruit

I didn't know until I joined this forum, but every doc and Nut is truly different. I went for my 2 week post op yesterday and I was told I could try fruits and veggies. Especially water based fruits and veggies, like watermelon. I'm expected to be at or near full foods at 6 weeks, but I see some on full liquids for 5 weeks. All the can tell you is no..

    thyroid and wls?

I have Graves' disease and I've lost 45lbs in 5 weeks!
  21. My surgery originally scheduled for Sept. 10th has been delayed by the ladies in the doctor's office because of my food journal. Got the call first thing this morning telling me that they didn't think I was ready for the commitment that lapband surgery takes. I am a self-pay patient. I've met with the kind folks at the drs office for a total of 45 mins. tops during my 3 visits there. Yes, I did the info-seminar and was handed mounds of stuff to read that just sat in my cute little bag they gave me. My identical twin (who lives with me) went through the exact same surgery last year. I have her as my support. I know what it takes, I know what I need to do and am willing to do it. The one thing to my detriment was I gained 2 lbs (had my last supper so to speak before my 2 week liquid diet). I also was a little too honest on my food diary. One the one hand it's my fault and I am 100% committed to this (always was really-just now I'm really ticked off and want to prove them wrong). On the other hand, I feel let down by the team because I don't feel I had enough counseling and meetings with the nutritionist (never even met her - yet she's the one who called me today). Well - I had my pity party - it's ok...I will still have the surgery in September. I'm just a little hurt and feel a little run over but I will tell them exactly how I feel about this whole situation...AFTER surgery :)3

Can I decide NOT to get a fill?

Misty - it is your body and your decision. If you want to stay where you are for awhile tell your surgeon you have decided not to fill until you feel like you need it. As long as you are still losing weight all is good. Surgeons are human and yours may want extraordinary results to feed his/her ego, but if you are losing 2 pounds a week you are doing great, are losing weight in a healthy manner and should stick to your guns. I respect my surgeon but ultimately all decisions about my health and my body are mine. Doen't be afraid to stand up for yourself - you should never be pressed into something that makes you uncomfortable.
  23. Do you have a teacher's assistant? Otherwise I'd say no. Energy wise if all goes well you could return in 2 weeks, but with little people that you might have to or need to pick up, I'd say, "No" unless you have an assistant who could do the picking up and stuff. Also keep in mind you need to be able to sip for most of the day.
  24. I work at a hospital, LOTS of picking patients up and bending over. My doctor said I could go back in 2 weeks, but I'm taking 4 weeks. I just don't want to chance it, is not worth ripping a staple in my stomach!
  25. I'm a vet tech and am on my feet all day...walking, bending, squatting, lifting, and restraining sometimes uncooperative animals. I went back to work at 7 days but had a lifting restriction of 20 pounds for 3 weeks, so we couldn't schedule any large dog surgeries or farm calls that involved horses/cows. I was back to lifting up to 60 pounds at 3 weeks. I never had any problems doing my job, just really tired at the end of the day.
