  1. OK so i was initially submitted to insurance for approval(revision from lapband to vsg) in Dec 2016. I was initially denied because they said I didnt have enough documentation stating it was medically necessary to remove my band nor that I had followed up with the post op diet recommendations after my lap band. I went to meet with my surgeon and he submitted more info per BSBS request. Well they denied it again, this time I was told they thought my band was removed in July 2016.. ummmm no this damn thing is still in me. Sooo they submitted again.. so where along the line a peer to peer happened(which no one even told me we were at that stage), apparently that was denied so now it's in the appeal process!!! It's been like 2 weeks and still no answer!!! Has anyone ever had to go through all of this I have BCBSIL???? Please tell me there is light at the end of the tunnel. Has anyone ever done an external appeal? HELP!!!! #tiredofbeingfat #thissucks #i'msofrustrated
  2. I had a bypass . Mainly for maximum weight loss and to get rid of any chance of reflux . I also notice(d) that many sleevers tend to have revision to bypass for medical reasons . I didn’t want to chance having two surgeries . I’ve had zero issues, pain or vomiting etc or anything people tend to think of when they think rny Good luck with your decision
  3. First, thanks to you and your family for his service for our country! Second - what a great compliment! That has to make you smile. The other day I was talking to my husband about my revised goal weight...I said I have 23 more pounds to go. My 14-year old son walked in and proclaimed, "24 more pounds! That's too much. You should stop now!" It made me smile.
  4. Hello, This is my first post so I'm very new here. I'm having my lapband out this Wednesday and going for the sleeve 5/31/17. I was looking for some advice/information from people who have lived through the whole procedure already. I'm currently 205 and gaining no matter what I do. I'm so stressed out that I'll gain a lot of weight between 3/29 and 5/31 that it's all I can think about! I have PCOS and Insulin Resistance and also, I have my wedding this October. I know I'm smaller than most people who have gotten the sleeve but I've struggled my entire life and I'm ready to get this tool to help me finally succeed, as the band did nothing for me except make me throw up every day for the last 2 years. Does anyone suffer from the same things (PCOS & IR) as me? Have you found success? Any advice from anyone is much, much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Amanda
  5. @Navigating the Wilderness Some doctor's do it as one procedure, mine did not. Apparently, if you do the procedure as an all-in-one revision, the risk for a leak doubles to 2%. As it is, my sleeve is a little bit larger than a "virgin" sleever -- because of the band, the surgeon doesn't feel comfortable making the sleeve as small.

    Band revision for 5/31/17

Hi Glad I found this. I just scheduled my Band to Sleeve revision for May 5th. And I am nervous as the reality is sinking in. My Doctor does them together, he never mentioned two surgery. But in our meeting today he said the new stomach is 1/4 of the old one For some reason I thought he had said it would be 1/3, This difference seems little but kind of through me. Perhaps because I had the Band before, really not sure. I have to go to see the PA a few weeks prior to surgery as we are over the 4 week cut off which is OK. The PA actually is more of a optimistic, actually the PA has been the one who first suggested the revision and how knowing my history and compliance he thought it would really help me. I really only saw the DR a few times in the last 8 years as i mainly saw the PA, The Dr you have to wait literally hours and hours!
  7. My personal experince with a slip: Last year, I started having nightime reflux. I got RX Prilosec from my dr and took OTC Zantac also. Plue popping Tums like they were candy. Nothing helped. Had to sleep propped up on 3 pillows and still had acid coming up all night. Finally after about 3 mths, I went to my band dr. He said I had a small slip and took out 1/2 of my 10cc fill. No more reflux. 4 wks later, he put back 1cc. still no reflux but also no restriction. He put in another 1cc. Reflux that very nite. So he took out the previous 1cc he put in and said I can live with a small slip as long as I no longer have symtoms. No more reflux. Then, last Friday, I started having abdominal pain. Nothing really painful, just bothersome. Led my normal life for 3 days with stomach pain. Got really bad on monday nite and found myself in the ER at 3 am. After a CT, it showed a large slipped band - actually herniated. They emptied my entire band and now I have to have a revision done. Talked to my drs office today and they said it can wait (as long as my band was entirely empty) till after I get back from my cruise to Alaska in 3 weeks. Thank God. I really didn't want to be on liquids only during my cruise. Thats my personal experience with a slip. Hope you don't have one. It's a pain (literally!) Marci
  8. THAT I agree with too! I was a failed lapband patient and the first surgeon I went to regarding a revision essentially "poo poo'd" the sleeve for me since he claimed it was only restrictive like the band and would only discuss the gastric bypass with me. I went along at first... but I didn't like his NUT and a few other things made me seek a different surgeon. The practice I went to ultimately presented both options - sleeve and bypass as "good options" for me, but clearly their practice is heavily focused on sleeve so I felt confident about that. Seems like it is really ideal if the surgeon "believes" in your choice of procedures!

Need your help! Not your criticism :)

Hi There! What I think you need to do is start logging in your food, your exercise, your water. I think that you probably need to revise your diet, remove lots of carbs and put back in lean proteins. Try to get all your steps in and keep the water up. For me I have bacon and cheese for breakfast, I have homemade low carb chili, butter chicken or teriyaki chicken then for lunch and dinner (and the mid meals). I get at least 64oz of water in and try to walk at least 8K steps. You need to restrict calories, remove carbs, increase water and walking. Good luck, I know this isn't easy and I hope this helps!!!
  10. I just left my appointment where I expected to get a fill only to be told that my port has flipped! I had my surgery in October and had to have a revision in December after my port flipped. Now I'm told that it flipped again! I was told that I haven't done anything to cause this. Apparently this "rarely happens". I'm so frustrated and upset! Has anyone else experienced this?
  11. I was banded in 2005 in Monterrey MX. It was the most amazing experience ever! Unfortunately, a doctor in the states messed it up. So I do not have a fill, but the band restricts as is. It has a mind of its own. I haven't had any major complications other than food getting stuck and PB. Long story short I just want it out. I'm traveling to TJ on April 12 for surgery with Lopez. Surgery in Mexico does not even bother me to say the least, it's the idea of waking up without the sleeve. I hope all can be taken care of in one surgery. Is there anyone out there who can relate???

    Band->VSG->RNY

I had the sleeve Jan 2013 then a revision to RNY on March 7th. My weight loss was always slow and I knew it wasn't working then after like a year or two I started to gain the weight back. Unfortunately I've personally had so many complications since the revision so I'm not sure how helpful of a source I am. I have lost about 50lbs in the last almost 4mons and feel like it should be more but my body is so confused.

    Finally!

Hi! It's been a while since I've been online, I was waiting (what seemed like forever) for my surgeon to refer me to an experienced VSG surgeon, and I FINALLY have the consultation appointment this Tues 4/6 at UCLA with Dr.Mehran! I am so nervous, I am scared that they will reject me for the VSG because I am "damaged goods" since I had the band for 7+ years and when they took it out and tried to convert me to the Bypass, my previous surgeon said my insides were too scarred to do the conversion. She did think I was the perfect candidate for the VSG, since they would be cutting out the damaged part of my stomach anyways. Ok, so here's my question: What kinds of questions should I ask the surgeon at UCLA-I don't want to seem like a "know it all" cause I'm not, but I do know a thing or two about the way one feels after weight loss surgery, since I've been through it (and lots of complications). I am so worried that they will reject my case entirely because I am a revision and they have perfect statistics and may not want someone like me to mess up their stats (in case something goes wrong). I attended their seminar and they boast that they are super strict on who they pick to do surgery on- I'm pinning all my hopes on this-I really need this tool ! Since having my lap-band removed I have gained another 10+ pounds and that is with really watching my foods! Sorry to ramble on- Does anyone have some advice on what kinds of questions to ask, or how to let them know just how serious I am? I've got everything organized in a binder, including my most recent labs, and all of my medical history.

Band to Sleeve Question...new here :)

I agree with WasA and would ask you to look at my signature. You'll see that I once weighed 20 pounds more than your top weight and that I had a band and never felt restriction. What I did develop was awful acid reflux that made sleeping in bed a rare treat. I did everything I could to make the band work for me and the band failed me. Exactly 3 months ago today, I revised to the VSG and don't regret a thing. I am down 29.6 pounds and FINALLY know what restriction is. I simply can't eat a lot. Here's an example from last night when I went out to eat with friends to celebrate a retirement. Prior to the VSG and WITH the band, I ate several pieces of bread/rolls with butter, an appetizer, the main course with all the potato and sides, and dessert. Last night, I had a 4" x 1" crust of bread with 1/2 tsp butter, no appetizer, no dessert, and could only eat 3/4 of the sea bass filet. I wanted to eat more but I began to feel uncomfortable and knew "one more bite" and I would regret it. WasA answered all your questions. I have not vomited since before surgery but I DO feel nauseaus if I eat past the "I'm full" stage. I consider the sleeve to be a band that works. With the sleeve, it's like having a straw (instead of a wide tube) that leads down to your pouch or reduced stomach. That straw fills up quickly so you feel full with a small amount of food. Do all the research you can but I advise everyone I know to go for the sleeve as opposed to the band or RNY. Every single person I know who had RNY gained the wieght back after a year and the surgeons where I work (I'm an RN) call it the golden year before the fat piles back on. Welcome and feel free to keep asking whatever you want to.
  15. I got the lap band done 3-29 this year and I'm over disappointed/frustrated with my weight loss so far. I'm down 20 lbs but I'm also up and down 2 lbs constantly. I feel like I have to fight for every single ounce. All foods are high protein and almost no carb or sugars. If I ate more than 1000 calories a day it's very rare. I keep a food log everyday. I don't think I should have to struggle for every single lb with weight loss surgery! I'm considering talking to my Dr about having a revision to the sleeve. My concerns with the sleeve.....I have 2 relatives that had it done and they've started gaining weight back. Am I giving up on the band too soon?? Is the sleeve any better?? Advice please!!

    Weight gain and freaking out.

I spent last year cross fitting I'm taking a break while I heal from my revision. I weighed 182 when I started and a uk 18 I weighed 182 ten months later uk size 14. Cross fit puts muscle on quick but will improve your body. When you do something like cross fit you have to focus more on measuring/ clothes size especially if you are somewhere around the weight you should be because you probably won't lose and may gain some weight but imagine how fit, healthy and toned you will be! So hard when you have been purely focused on losing for so long, good luck!

    Weight gain and freaking out.

I'm considering revision fro band to bypass and you just sparked a question in my brain....so, if your pouch is a certain size and only hold between 1/4 to 1/2 to 1cup of food....how does one gain weight? Is it the choice of food or is it eating past when one is full? Don't mean to hijack...just figuring it all out...thanks! Marieze

    Loving life !

Agreed. I loved my band while it was working. helped me take off 104 lbs. Till it slipped. Not only did I suffer with constant nightime reflux and pain eating, I gained 30 lbs over a years time. Vomiting was so normal to me that I actually miss it now (I know, weird, huh?). I think I can credit about 75% of the loss to vomiting. I became a bulimic. Had my revision in July of 2013 and I'm 22 lbs from goal. Have only vomited twice in 4 mths (ate too much too quickly). I'm losing very slowly and I've heard the last 20 are the hardest so I'm giving myself a year to lose it. I don;t min losing slower if I get to eat whatever I want (it's about the same quantity of food as my lapband at its best). I don't count calories but I know I rarely get over 1000 (calories counting in the back of my mind, coming from years of proficient dieting). Congrats to u and good luck with the last 10 lbs. How much have u lost total, since 2007?
  19. @@cbk you're lookin at her! I had a lapband in 2008, revised to sleeve in 2010 and now I'm revising to bypass tomorrow.
  20. hello all, I'm going from the band to a sleeve now to the bypass, has anyone else done this. my revision is august 12th in ma.
  21. Almost reminiscent of when my lapband had slipped last year. I'm now 4 mths post op and take 20mg of RX Prilosec 2x a day. I literally ate 1/2 bottle of Tums last nite. Also had to take 150mg of OTC Zantac to be able to even lie down. Had to wait for it to kick in before lying down. This is absolutely the worst my reflux/heartburn (I had both the last couple nites. Usually it's either/or) has been since getting sleeved. I plan on taking my PPI forever (if thats what I have to do to prevent being obese again, I will) but will I also have to add several Extra Strength OTC Zantacs also? That was my "before surgery" pill ratio. Thought that was over. And yes, I know I shouldn't eat before going to bed. I can eat very little and to keep from starving at 2 am, I usually eat 1/4 of a PB and banana sandwich before bed. I will try and cut that out tonite and see if that makes a difference. Thought this was 1 of the reasons I had sleeve revision (besides the fact that the slipped band HAD to come out anyway!)
  22. I just got back from my Dr visit and my paperwork to my insurance is being submitted.I am really getting scared.Does anyone have and regrets having this revision done ?
  23. Posting for those who would like to participate in research on weight loss surgery. I found this on another site and I thought it would be good if they got some input from here as well. A research study is being conducted through the department of Psychology and Counseling of Georgian Court University, Lakewood, NJ, on quality of life (QOL) outcomes in long-term post-operative bariatric surgery patients. If you have been living with an adjustable gastric band (such as LAP Band or Realize Band, RNY gastric bypass, gastric sleeve or duodenal switch for at least two years, please take the survey athttps://www.surveymo...quality-of-life . If your current surgery was a revision, you're also welcome to participate as long as your revision was at least two years ago. Your responses will be treated with strict confidentiality, and you will have an opportunity to sign up to receive a copy of the results after you have completed the survey. If you would like more information about the study, you may email the chairperson of the department of Psychology and Counseling, Susan E. O. Field, Ph. D., at fields@georgian.edu or by phone at (732) 987-2643. If you have any questions or concerns regarding confidentiality, ethics, or the nature of this study, please contact the chairperson of the Institutional Research Review Board, Cheryl Resnick-Cortes, D.S.W., at resnickc@georgian.edu or by phone at (732) 987-2366. Thank you in advance for your participation!

    Tomorrow Is Surgery Day

I'm 5 weeks out from my band - sleeve revision. It's really night & day, in a good way. I'm not going to say you will love it, there are certainly some things not to love, but I will say it's way easier to live with than the band was on its best day. And if you're like me, and have significant scar tissue from your band insertion/removal, you might find an unexpected bonus of relief once that gob of stuff is removed. I'm now rid of pains I wasn't really registering before (occasionally), but now definiely notice that they're gone.
  25. I had band to sleeve revision 9 months ago with Go Light Bariatric. Love them and I’m down from 212 to 137.
