March 11th!(:
dixiejuju replied to aylalinngren1026's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also afraid they will cut me open and my liver won't be shrink enough. My surgery is Tuesday March 12th. I haven't 25 lbs since first seeing the surgeon. I had a 3 week pre op diet, did great, then my surgeon got the flu and my surgery was moved out 2 more weeks and I haven't done so great. Part of it was feeling depressed due to being rescheduled. I have maintained the weight loss but I am still scared I might have re-enlarged my liver. What does everyone think? Some post say they didn't even have to do a pre op diet. -
I just had mines done last monday and so far the biggest thing to your weight loss should be your protein and water. Try the weight loss raw protein at whole foods and follow the protein diet for 2 weeks and i guarantee you will get results.

Your body is recuperating from a huge trauma. Fluid is clinging to all the areas that where cut or moved during the surgery. Try not to jump on that scale. I know it's hard. The weight will come off. Focus on your fluids and it will help to flush your system.

My therapist said that's very normal. She said that our weight is a big part of our identity so it's going to take longer for us to "see" the results as opposed to others seeing it. She suggested taking pictures throughout the journey because it's easier to see the loss in comparing them. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Not losing any weight since surgery
ashhapp posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 6/05/2012 and have not lost ANY weight. I lost 40 lbs before I was sleeved and that is it. I have read a lot about Water intake but I haven't actually tried increasing my intake. I don't track my food but I also don't over eat. I listen to my body very well. I don't think I consume more than 800 calories a day if I actually decided to add them up. Does anyone have any advice? -
Weight stuck :(
♥LovetheNewMe♥ replied to Kkcrowder's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got stuck about 9-10 months post op also. I reached a weight some where in the 170"s and just sort of sat there with only losing a few pounds here and there for about 6 months. I know that is probably not what you wanted to hear but it happens, I about drove myself crazy trying to figure out what I was doing wrong or what I needed to do. I analyzed my food diaries and all I could see was I was always over in fat and carbohydrates and under in calories, below 1200 and sometimes below 1000. I talked with my nut. at the doctors office and she suggested I increase my protein and increase my cardio from 3 days a week to 30 min daily. I did all of this and finally started losing again. The one thing that did happen to me was I lost inches when not losing weight. On the months I had a large weight lose I lost little inches and on the months I had a small weight loss I lost a lot of inches. Just have patience, I know that is hard to do some times when you want this so bad but patience pays off, believe me it did for me and I was not aways perfect and did allow my self an occasional splurge. Good luck! -
Hey GB family, I’m super discouraged today. I’m two weeks and five days post op. I’ve only lost 15 lbs from surgery weight (311). I thought I’d be losing more weight.I’m only worrying because l’m at a stand still. Has anyone had this problem? The scale is just not moving !! My 1-month post operative appointment is in 10 days. I’m afraid that’s not enough weight for 1 month.. HW:311 CW: 296 GW: 165

CALLING ALL JULY 2010 BANSTERS!!!
Taterbugsmom replied to dlynn1635's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was steadily losing weight up until about 2 1/2 weeks ago when I got too tight. I have lost a total of 73 lbs, gaining 1 lb. back this week :hurt: I pray for NO MORE! I go in for another fill Monday but am near terrified of ending up to tight again EEK! Though I have daily struggles learning to work the band, I'm completely satisfied with the results! I have went from wearing size 22/24 pants to 12/14's. I seem to be carrying all of my weight on top. If only my arms could look as good as my legs Hopefully since the weather has made it impossible for me to (willingly) walk my normal 6-9 mi a day, I can spend more time working on my upper body. I joined Curves & am doing Zumba 2x a week. -

I'm doing great and don't ever regret my decision. I'm half way to goal! I'm running again (although not this week...sub-zero am temps!) and will be doing a half-marathon in the spring. I feel I am soooo close to my sweet spot. I actually have pretty good restriction (6.5 in a 10cc band) but could use a little tweak (.1 or .2) I think. I feel like I've really made some lifestyle changes. I don't get "stuck" too often anymore as I've slowed down my eating, chew better and am really learning to "listen" to my body for full signals. It's awesome and even if I'm going through a "maintenance" time when I'm not losing very much, I don't worry about the weight coming back. I just know I need a small adjustment and I can start losing again. I've gone from a size 18 to being able to wear most 14's again. It's wonderful and I hope to see size 8 sometime in 2011! -

hocuspocus replied to lovemysgt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sympathise. I also have zero restriction and can eat whatever I like. My first fill is on the 8th November and I can't wait. I am too scared to get on the scales incase I have put on weight. Its just too easy to eat - not what I expected  -
What you can eat will depend on where you go. If you go out to dinner and there is either a buffet or menu, you can order Cottage cheese, Applesauce, Soup (eat around the chunks), hot tea/coffee. Some people here, during the mushy phase get to eat white fish, maybe that is an option for you? So glad you'll get to show off the "new you" to the old hubbies. I can't even tell you (this is going to sound like I'm 15 again), but I was only about a week past surgery so very near my highest weight, no make up, very, very comfy clothes and ran into an old boyfriend's mother. Why this could/would bother me, who knows. I haven't seen her (or him) in 18 years, but I cannot lie, it would have been nice if I had looked better. I KNOW her and that she told him she saw me. But it would have been great if she could have seen a skinny me! LOL. I mean really!! Who cares????? I'm happily married, but something about the old flames thinking about what they don't have.....:-) Have fun on your trip and congrats to your daughter!!

So I'm two years out and loving life! My favorite eats...
Wynnie replied to LipstickLady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh yeah, the appetizers. More and more that is all I order from when I eat out. Sliders without the buns, shrimp cocktail etc. if I'm in the mood for fish I order from the regular menu and ask that they not provide whatever rice or potatoes. They look at me oddly and some will state " you know it's the same price, right?" To which I nod my head yes and smile. I also get odd looks when i have what looks like an entire meal wrapped up to go. My husband laughs when they keep walking over to me asking " are you sure everything was ok?". I am truly enjoying my weight loss and this (I hope) forever way of eating -
CALLING ALL JULY 2010 BANSTERS!!!
rcain03@hotmail.com replied to dlynn1635's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded July 8th and I am feeling great! I have lost over 48 lbs.!!! I have had two fills and am lucky to have great restriction. At times I am too tight but it tends to eventually loosen up by the evening time. I have not exercised nearly as much as I should be due to taking care of my mother and not myself. But, starting today...I intend to get back to taking care of me! I had to go clothes shopping today because my pants that I was wearing yesterday were pitiful. The crotch was hanging nearly to my knees...lol...so, It was definitely time to get some new pants. I was excited to try on clothes today because I have went from a size 26 jeans being too tight...to being able to comfortably wear a size 18 jeans!!!! I even have one pair of 16's I can wear!!!! =)))))) I have lost most of my weight from the waist down....now, if I can get rid of this dang muffin top...I will be a happy girl! I am so proud of everyone's accomplishments! People don't realize how hard this is....definitely not the magic potion for weight loss. But, it is definitely the best "tool" I have ever had! -

Some how along the path I messed something up!
920amy replied to Tapdancincowpiez's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tapdancin, Of course you can get back on track!! Everyday is a new day! You know what you're doing wrong! Stop it! go back to the basics, do what you need to do, do it right and keep on doin it! The weight will start dropping off again in no time! Yes, as we get further out, it becomes more of us doing the work than the sleeve, but the principles remain the same. Protein first, no snacking, 20-30-20, and exercise! Even if it is just getting 10k steps in a day! You can do this and you can finish this journey proud!! Keep on keepin on!! -
Is A Cup Too Much?
Ms skinniness replied to chris twnsnd's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Do You track your food on something like myfitnesspal.com? You have done really great losing weight so it might not be a problem for you. And the calories you consume are good. I wouldn't worry about it unless you've started to gain weight. Just relax and enjoy the ride. -
Question about recovery for people who have lifting jobs.
James Marusek replied to hotmamma1979's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery. After surgery I was given a maximum weight lifting restriction. Since it was so long ago I don't really recall the limit but it was around 10 or 15 pounds. That restriction went away fairly quickly. I think by the time of the first follow-up meeting where they removed the stitches after surgery, they eliminated this weight limit. The weight limit was in writing and most companies will honor the weight limit due to recovery from surgery. It means that certain tasks cannot be performed until you are healed. If you work in surgery, I would think most hospitals would comply with this requirement. -
My doctor wants me to start strength training along with the cardio I have been doing at the gym. Now that I am down 50lbs she doesn't want me getting tons of loose skin and she says it will help me keep losing weight. Any suggestions on what machines to use? Never done anything but cardio machines and I don't wanna be doing the wrong machines...thanks!!

Surgery on 2/19, one week to go & OH MY..............................
Mini Me Wanna~Be replied to Mini Me Wanna~Be's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what the issue with it is, it was written in Comic sans size 12 there's no cursive so i'm re~posting it in Arial size 18. If you can't see I don't know what else to do no one else has said they cant read it. Sorry in advance if this is long and I ramble a bit, I just need to say something's out loud and I am hoping you all understand and don't mind me talkin' :} My surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday the 19th in Las Vegas with Dr. Thomas Umbach. I have been on my pre surgery diet for a few days now and am finally doing ok and not wanting to attack and steal crackers from a 2 y/o who was eating them as he passed me by on Sunday....lol I have been soooooooooo freaking emotional the past week, i'm sure part of it is the lack of food, caffeine, nerves about surgery and being that time of month didn't help. I have only had 1 surgery before and it was foot surgery so I know everything about this surgery is going to be very different. When I had that surgery I did not come out of the anesthesia very well made me very nauseous and I was looped out for several hours. I do have my fears that something will happen to me during surgery and I won't come thru it. But I trust my Dr and his experience with doing this surgery. I would be stupid to think there are no risks or complications (I usually see all the bad before the good has a chance to peek thru) I think my biggest fears are how will I do with the anesthesia & the "not knowing" what to expect (like how much pain I will be in, how hard it will be to drink, how i'm going to handle new things for the 1st time after my new tummy) I know I will lose weight and I have already made up my mind that I didn't get this big over night and i'm not going to lose it all over night either. My goal is to lose 10lbs a month and become a healthier better me, to get off the insulin, have less pain from my arthritis, fibro & nuropathy. I have never really been one to exercise but I have been walking as much as I can and I have already gotten things started with a personal trainer and a program once I am cleared for exercise and until i'm cleared I will continue to walk and get my stamina built up. I want to say THANK YOU to Alex Brecher for this website and for making it possible for people like us to talk to others who know where were coming from and understand our feelings. The staff here have been awesome also and to A LOT of the members here who share there journey & photo's with the rest of us. Who give us support and are willing to answer questions (even dumb ones....lol) give us a kick in the pants when we need it and the courage to keep going. I have learned so much from reading post after post, my daughter thinks i'm crazy because I "take notes". I hope at some point I will be able to help someone else out and inspire someone to keep plugging along and take the steps needed to become healthy and happy :} Thank you in advance if you read this, I do appreciate you all. I just needed to say it all out loud I guess and I only have a few supporters that I can talk to without judgement and cruel words. Thanks again, Katrina :} God bless all those who have upcoming surgeries. I will be looking out for your stories & updates. -
There is a type of low blood sugar problem that can occur after gastric bypass surgery. It is called reactive hypoglycemia. Here is a link to the condition. https://www.ridgeviewmedical.org/services/bariatric-weight-loss/enewsletter-articles/reactive-hypoglycemia-postgastric-bypass Generally this problem begins to occur several months after surgery. Since you are only a week after surgery, I suspect this is not the cause. These are the symptoms of hypoglycemia: An irregular heart rhythm * Fatigue * Pale skin * Shakiness * Anxiety * Sweating * Hunger * Irritability * Tingling sensation around the mouth * Crying out during sleep As hypoglycemia worsens, signs and symptoms may include: * Confusion, abnormal behavior or both, such as the inability to complete routine tasks * Visual disturbances, such as blurred vision * Seizures * Loss of consciousness If you were diabetic and taking medication for the condition, the medication might be driving your body into hypoglycemia. If so this is a sign that you need to cut back on the diabetic medicine. But if you were diabetic then you probably have a glucose meter and could test to see if your hypothesis (low blood sugar) is a correct one.

It's not swelling that causes the extra weight after surgery, it's all the Fluid they pumped into you to keep hydrated. Most people see this extra weight disappear within a week or two. I almost always see it go away for people within the first week. Don't sweat it, the weight loss is coming very, very soon. Just stay hydrated, that's critical at this point in your healing, and hang in there!

On Tuesday I had a revision from a band to a bypass. I am extremely swollen and actually weigh 9 pounds more than I did the morning of surgery. How long did the swellinglast for others before you saw actual weight loss. Thanks!

Question about back & joint pain...
DrmBig4Evr replied to DrmBig4Evr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on OTC NSaids, but stopped for surgery. Meloxicam cause some internal bleeding so I try not to use prescription NSaids. I am hoping it will resolve with weight loss, at least my doc believes it will. He did say at 60 lbs I should feel a difference. I hope so!
