    September surgery buddies!!

So yesterday made three weeks since surgery and I’m 30 pounds down!!! But still feel fat AND NOW I’m scared of regaining weight after reading a re sleeve thread ! I am lost emotionally right now!
  2. I had my yearly pulmonologist appt. the other day. I've been seeing him for about 10 years, since I got diagnosed with asthma. I had suspected I had it for a long time before that, but when I got up to almost 400 pounds it got a lot worse. That year I was sick 10 months out of the year. It was awful. Well, at this appointment the other day he said my lung function is better than normal for a woman my age (51). Like, WAY better than normal, and he doesn't need to see me anymore unless I have a problem. He also took me off my controlling inhaler with the long acting brochodilator in it and put me on a regular one that is just a steroid. I had originally had to go on the one with the brochodilator because we couldn't get my asthma under control with just a steroid. Actually, I love this doctor and he's the best doctor I've ever had so I will miss him, but I'm so happy. I NEVER knew the impact my weight was having on my ashtma until I lost the weight. I just can't believe how much better I feel. I can't believe after struggling to get it under control for a long time, now it's like I don't even have asthma. It's amazing! August surgery buddies!

So my first week big loss… next three weeks stall… they suggested I up my calories and protein… now I gained! 🤦🏽‍♀️ This is really frustrating! Im tracking everything - weigh and measure every bite. I’m hoping there’s going to come a point where my body just gets it together and everything clicks… I’m just wondering when that will be. Right now I’m feeling very bloated and constipated (things moving, but slowly).

    August surgery buddies!

I also am not losing as fast as I would like. Focus on your habits and the results will happen. My cousin who had this surgery several years ago said that it was frustrating for her for a long time and then one day she realized that she had lost 100 pounds. Trust the process and congrats on the weight lost so far!
  5. I replied this to a topic of other than the scale, what other victories do you have? As I read all the post of what people are able to do now, that they were not able to do before, I was thinking about what is something I can share? I found that if I had to share one thing it would be impossible because there is countless things that I can list! Though the one thing you have to remember, if you are planning to get a surgery, is that if you are having a hard time with something due to weight and only you know what that is... know that you will be able to do that, and more! This surgery for me has been a fountain of youth. yes, it is hard, yes there will be moments of worry or whatever feeling you will get, but understand it is all part of the process. it does help hearing others experience but ultimately yours might be different so you can't go by that either. you have to trust the surgery, doctors, and most of all yourself. That you can do this! I love hearing all the great, positive, life changing things, surgery has done for so many!

  7. I had mine removed 2yrs after but there won’t be additional changes to your post surgical bariatric diet by having it removed at the same time. After I had mine removed I was back to my usual eating plan the next day. There won’t be additional wounds either as they use the same ones to remove your tummy as your gall. The post surgical discomfort was much the same between the surgeries except I had gas pain after the gall surgery & none after my sleeve. Generally, you may have a little more discomfort & gas pain simply because the surgery will be a little longer & there’s more ‘prodding & poking’ than just with the sleeve alone. The only thing you may notice after your gall removal is you may not tolerate fatty or oily foods long term but that won’t be an issue post surgery anyway with the changes to your diet to support your weight loss. I also get a build up of stomach acid as the gall isn’t there to regulate it anymore but then you’ll be prescribed a PPI (reduces acid) after your surgery anyway. Good luck with your surgery.

I stay HORNY all the time!

I haven’t had surgery yet, but my libido has suffered tremendously. I’m hoping to get it back once the weight is gone.
  9. I am turning 48 soon, so close. I just had GVS and it went really well despite having an umbilical hernia to boot. I am back to work, since day 7. However, I do teach from home and sit while working. If I didn't I would say a minimum of two weeks. I tested positive for sleep apnea as well. I don't tell many people about the surgery, not because I am ashamed but rather it is like any other health issue for me, I don't go around talking about them. I tell who needs to know or I tell someone who is struggle and asks me how I am losing my weight. The first few days are super hard, and the tiredness is hard in the beginning as well. You do have to get used to prepping food differently but, this is all worth adding 10 years to my life. Down 17 lbs since surgery on the 12th.

    Six months

Congratulations on your weight loss! I'm 4 1/5 months out from mine and have lost 60 pounds so far. Have a great time at Disney and if there are any good recommendations for restaurants that are good for those of us who've had the surgery, I'd love to know. I'll be there the middle of December.
  11. I am losing weight pretty quick since surgery. Today is day 10 and I am down 17 lbs. That may be a lot of this. I started some foods yesterday so hopefully that will help. Going to go for an IV infusion tomorrow.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery! Yes, this tool is definitely going to help even though for the long run we all have to change majority of our bad habits to keep the weight off. Let us know how it goes!

    August surgery buddies!

I know what you mean. My weight loss has been very slow and I've stalled for 2 weeks. I'm finally losing again, but at a rate of about 1 to 2 lbs a week. I've only lost a total of 15 lbs since my surgery almost 6 weeks ago and 8 of it was in the first week after surgery when I could barely get liquids in. I guess 1 to 2 lbs a week is normal, but I had hoped for the rapid weight loss that I kept seeing during my Google searches for the surgery.

    August surgery buddies!

Well, today was my 1 month weigh in. I was at 297.5. I don't actually know my day of surgery weight, they didn't weigh me and I didn't have a scale. I was 325 a week after I started my 3 week pre-op liquid diet. 310 one week after surgery. So 27.5 lbs lost since August 6. I've always hated the scale, my whole life losing weight has been very slow, no matter what. I'm always the most compliant dieter, weigh and measure everything. Drink lots of plain water, exercise a lot. I'd hoped maybe getting bypass would change that. Guess not. Once again I'm doing absolutely everything perfectly, been in touch with my nutritionist frequently to share my food diary and he says I'm on track. I know it's a marathon not a sprint, I just stupidly thought/hoped maybe THIS time I wouldn't have to fight every pound off so hard. I swore I wasn't going to get upset after crying all day after my week 1 weigh in, but here I sit just a puddle. I did still go for my morning 35 minute walk, I'm swimming this afternoon for 30 minutes and I'll walk again for 30 minutes later tonight. All my food is planned and prepped for the day. It's all I can do. ARGHHH!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Fluctuation is normal that early out. Try to weigh yourself less. It is not physically possible to eat enough to gain 6 lbs in a week, especially after WLS. You just can't eat enough to do it. Just stick to your plan and you will see the weight fall off. Good luck!
  17. Hi there! I'm New here and very excited to be here! Congrats on recognizing your pitfalls. I too am in a similar place, RNY December,2019. Loss 100 lbs, to date I've gained back 30. I've stopped beating myself up and taking myself more seriously about why I had the surgery and looking at my pitfalls, which are potato chips! With that being said I am now eating a little better, I still have trouble getting in a lot of food. So I try to start each morning with my protein shake and with that I'm usually full for the day and it gives me anywhere from 65 to 75 grams of protein. I've been trying to incorporate another protein, which is difficult for me because I'm not hungry, I never hungry. So I try to have a little chicken, turkey, or some other protein. I love now to eat a lot of vegetables, salads, and fruits which I now try to substitute these for the chips! I'm also getting ready to start exercising on a daily basis. With that being said, this is a journey, lifelong journey, lifestyle change that will greatly improve my life. And because I love living and being with family and exploring new things I feel more determined than ever to embark on this journey! So again congrats to you on recognizing where you are and what you have to do and blessings and success to you on this journey to improve your health, your life! November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Scheduled for my sleeve surgery on November 2nd. Final dietician appt in a couple of weeks and then a 3 days liquid diet prior to surgery. Nervous but I think it's long overdue. Haven't had many issues losing substantial weight, it's the keeping it off part that is tough. I think this is the tool that is needed to help me do so.
  21. Ladies how are your results? I am down 110 pounds I am currently 8 months pregnant so I gained about ten pounds.
  22. No my current weight is 255. Day of revision is was 270. My mom made a comment about I looked like I was losing weight but the scale doesn’t budge. It goes up like a pound but never down. 😩

    RNY maintenance calories?

I did not have a RNY. I had the SADI-S, but I just got to maintenance in July. So far I'm up to about 1600 calories and was maintaining although last week I had a 2 pound gain. I'm not sure if it's from too many calories or water weight because I increased my exercise a lot. I guess we will see how it goes. I am 51 so I may need less since I'm close to menopause. September surgery buddies!!

Had my two week check in with the surgeon! It was over the phone so very basic, he just asked how my incisions were healing, what my weight was, if I was taking my vitamins, and how fast I could consume 4oz of liquid. He said everything sounded like I was on track. I asked him if I could try thicker soups like split pea or butternut squash, he said yes but they had to be a runny cream consistency and I have to wait for eggs, cottage cheese, ricotta till the puree phase, which I was kind of hoping he'd let me start a week early, but that made me feel like the answer would be "no" lol. It's probably for the best though, because I went straight to the store and bought some creamy split pea soup and wow after maybe three small bites I was like "yeah, this feels different" and it took me an hour to get through 4oz. I'm both surprised and not surprised; on one hand it is an actual food as opposed to liquid, but on the other hand, Greek yogurt and pudding is allowed on my liquid diet and they are heavy but take me about 30mins to get through 4oz. Funny how my body knows the difference between a vegetable and a liquid, even at a similar consistency. My dietitian didn't have me follow the 30min before 30min after rule with yogurts, but I'm definitely doing it with the peas soup. My next check in with the surgeon is in 4 weeks, hopefully it'll be a good one too.

    RNY maintenance calories?

Like others said, maintenance calories differ for everyone depending on body composition, lifestyle and genes. I’m 5’2” female, 50 yrs old, moderately active, 117.8 lbs (this morning) I’ve been maintaining this weight +/- a couple lbs for the past 2 years at about 1800-2000 cals a day. In comparison, i was able to maintain this same weight range 3 years ago eating as much as 2500 cals average a day…but I was waaaaay more active back then. Tracking your food consumption, weight and activity levels helps to pinpoint YOUR maintenance calories for a given desired weight. But i realize this is not for everyone…in that case just make adjustments (i.e., change your food intake, exercise frequency, sleep habits, etc) if you notice your weight (or how your clothes fit) go in a direction that you are unwilling to go. Good Luck! ❤️
