    A Work In Progress

From the album: A Work In Progress

    Highest weight 318
  2. Hi all- I was banded on April 27th of this year. I have lost all total (including pre-op) 58 lbs. I am so thankful and happy for that. However, after my last fill, I have lost maybe 2 lbs...and it has been three weeks! I am now not making great choices as far as food ( but not horrible either). I am so frustrated as I am (and have been) about 4 lbs from a MAJOR milestone on the scale. I got on the scale today and it showed I gained about 1.5lbs....from what, I am not sure. A little weight gain from the choices I made maybe but not 1.5 lbs! I am even exercising 3 times a week for 1.5 hours. I would love someone that I could talk to, who can understand, who can be an accountability partner. I can be that for someone else too. Thanks- Jen

    Use one word to describe...

How you felt when you decided to pursue WLS? excited to start the journey How you felt just before surgery?excited to start the journey...oddly I was never nervous and I was banded in Mexico How you felt just after surgery? greatful that I had the oppertunity to do this with my husbands support How you felt 6 months after surgery? overjoyed at the progress of how much I had lost 6 months into it...I think I had lost about 80 lbs How you felt a year after surgery? extatic ...I had lost 110 pounds and was schedualed for a tummy tuck How you felt 2 years after surgery? great but need too remember the basics because in have gained back 10 lbs How you feel right now? good but want to do better!
  4. I didn't tell mine until I got back. We are actually good friends, and he was a little upset that I didn't tell him ahead of time. But he's should be used to it. I also found my own neurosurgeon and scheduled my own neck fusion surgery after he diagnosed me with bone spurs and stenosis in my neck. He admitted he would have disapproved (that's why I didn't tell him). But my successful weight loss and outstanding 6 month bloodwork has convinced him that my crazy Mexico surgery adventure wasn't such a bad idea. And I know he would have done whatever it took to make sure I was taken care of if I had had any surgical complications.

    No longer in "Mommy Jeans"

In my former obese life, I only wore jeans that fit. It didn't matter what type. Now, with two thirds of my excess weight gone, the jeans that fit are actually called skinny jeans. That cracks me up every single time I put them on. As long as I wear tunic style tops, I can get away with it. My legs have always been my thinnest part.
  6. I had to be weighed in once a month for Cigna Insurance requirements, there was no weight loss requirement for Cigna, and my surgeons only rule was I wasnt allowed to gain any weight, I ended up only taking off 3 pounds.. So it really depends on your insurance requirements (which you can research to make sure) some want a 10% weight loss. My nurse did RX phentremin (Wrong spelling !) but I didnt take them. Good luck either way,and theres plenty of people on here to help you..!!!

    diet question for the vets!

This is a tough question and hopefully your surgeon and nutritionist can provide you with guidance that is appropriate for your personal medical situation. That being said, I decided that a few bites of high carb foods would be ok so long as I continued to lose weight. I had fruit and carbs in my diet after 2 months and it didn't seem to affect my weight loss which stayed pretty constant at 2 pounds per week for months. I have been at a stall for about 2 months, and I am considering removing some carbs from my diet, but I think I will wait until I have my next apt w/ the surgeon before making any huge changes. The beauty of the gastric sleeve surgery is that the restriction really keeps you from being able to over do it on any foods. (Of course there are people who will try to cheat the sleeve, but really what is the point? Are we getting healthier or not!) For me a cookie or piece of candy on occasion didn't seem to be a bad thing, for someone else it might be like taking a little bit of heroin.... Most important is to know your body and relationship with food!
  8. I agree, a sweet spot is simply a spot where there is steady weight loss. you cant define it by amount you can eat or foods you can eat. If you define it by those terms, I have NEVER reached a sweet spot yet I've lost all my weight and then some (went way past the top of my healthy weight range down to a BMI of 22) and maintained the loss for nearly 2 years. But I eat more than half a cup and I eat bread. At any level of restriction if you eat fast, dont chew, take big bites you are likely to throw up. Just as at any level of restriction you will be able to eat ice cream easily.

    Loving All The "cupcake" Recipes!

Sorry I missed everyone comments yesterday but it looks like the questions were answered. Yes the website is emilybites.com and she has lots of great weight watcher recipes. I have only tried the French dip so far but I'm going to make the cheeseburger and taco ones this weekend to freeze. These are great grab and go!!

    Server Sleep Apnea Sleevers?

I started researching the sleeve specifically because of my sleep apnea. My weight triggered it so along with the other health benefits, Im hoping my apnea goes away.
  12. My procedures definitely won't be covered by insurance. However, I'm giving myself additional time to get down to my optimal weight. I've seen some really good results on the big girls (on realself.com), but the best results are on those with a BMI under 25. Well and the extra time to arrange funding helps too!
  13. My previous pastor was morbidly obese. He was a great spiritual leader, but his weight did limit his activity and therefore his ability to participate in some functions. I believe most of our church family would have supported him if he had chosen to have WLS. There will always be those that are negative and it can be hard because they always seem to be the loudest voices. I think you should be honest with your congregation if you feel comfortable doing so. It is a personal decision that only you can make. i don't see anything wrong with keeping it to yourself either if that is what you decide.
  14. I am kinda new to the site cause I don't understand how to use it. Well I really need support so I am going to try this. I have been banded for 1 yr and 1 month, but was not told about everything and how it all works. I had my first fill in April 2009 and the doctor missed. I didn't know how the fill thing felt since it was my forst one. I thought something was wrong with my band. I have to pay cash to get fills as I dont' have health insurance. My first fill was almost $500.00 and no results. I was so sad I was exersicing everyday and only lost 1lbs in the 2 1/2 months until I could afford another fill. The second one was a little cheaper at just under $300.00. This is where the same doctor found that there was no fluid in my band and even asked me if I went somewhere else. I was like oh yeah I love paying people tons of money to put fluid in my band and then pay someone else to take it out. So anyhow to the point of my second fill that was on June 22 nd I had lost a total of 30 lbs in the year. I was so sad thinking my band was a tolal failure. Since the second fill I have not lost another 10lbs and see that it still works. I am so happy. The only problem I am having is learning what I can and can't eat. I also am having trouble learning to chew my food up really good. I guess that was one of my problems that made me fat. I don't chew my food really good. Is there any hints someone might have for me? Also what is the best diet to be on to lose weight the fastest? I need more then a 10lb weight lose in almost 1 month. I need to get it off. Also how do I make a progress bar? I think this will keep me motivated.

    Epiphany

My mom works with a woman who had gastric bypass. This woman has had nothing but problems since day one. She lost a bunch of weight, but her health is in the toilet. She's so disappointed with doing gastric bypass. I chose lapband because I didn't want my interior re-routed. I just wasn't interested in cutting on my stomach. We may lose it slower, but I think our bodies respond better - skin, tissue, muscle - it all just responds better. We didn't gain this weight in a couple of months - why should we lose it in a couple of months? Slow and steady does it every time!

  18. How is everyone doing? I'm assuming most the people out there loving their sleeve has moved on from the forum, so I thought I would purposefully come back and post an update. Pain - Non existent.. Excercise - Just got cleared to excercise. Started with a couch 2 5k program yesturday. I loved running before the sleeve. It was hard to hold myself back to running only 60 seconds at a time. Food - I can pretty much eat anything.. But some things just aren't worth it.. Red Meat sits hard and heavy in the stomach.. So I try to limit that. I've only had three throwing up experiences since I got sleeved. And none of them were from food. I switched from Prilosec to Pepcid.. And that was a mistake.. Three times though is all it took for me to figure it out. It also allowed me to get off all antacids.. Vitamins and pills - Still take double chewable multi and double calcium caltrate. B12, BComlex are once a day. Hypertension medicine still once a day, but off the metformin for good now. As for how much I'm eatting... I usually stick with 4 - 5 ounces of protein.. And then will throw about 4 ounces of what else is there (Potatoes, Veggies, Pasta).. Finish all the protein then try to make it thru half of the other stuff until I'm full, but not uncomfortable. Weight loss has been extraordinary.. Had a couple of stalls, but usually the weeks after the stalls the weight just falls off.. I've also noticed the stalls relate more to my sodium and water intake than anything else.. So if I keep drinking my water(Crystal Light Lemonade) and reduce the amount of pasta/potatoes/etc.. It falls right back off fast..

My name is Hutch - I have a tentative date of May 9th with Dr Aceeves in Mexi -Cali I am a truck driver and struggle with weight loss so I have made the decision to be sleeved. I am nervous but not scared. I have been 100 lbs overweight for the last 10 years and I have tried every diet imaginable - and they work for a minute and then fail. I have no one to blame but myself. I have diabetes, sleep apnea, asthma and planter faciatias in my feet which causes me alot of pain. I hope and pray that after the surgery with time these conditions that I mention will go away. I recently got married to a beautiful woman that was sleeved in Janurary,2010- and when she said that I needed to get a passport I thought she was excited about going on vacation but little did I know she had other plans - I am happy though because I feel that this is the best decision for me and for us to live a long and healthy life together. If you all will join me in my upcoming journey I would greatly appreciate all of ur help and support. Thank you and God bless, Hutch
  20. I have always had trouble with all sweeteners except Equal which really limits many foods and drinks. It is my understanding that sugar does not affect the band. The reason for limiting sugar is for weight loss if I understand it right. Sugar has never caused me any problems but I have not reached my "sweet spot" yet. I don't know if this changes with optimal restriction. I sometimes split sweetness between Equal and sugar because too much Equal also makes me feel bad. I would be interested also to hear other peoples experiences.

Does Sugar Free Stall Weight ?

There is zero evidence that artificial sweeteners do anything but possibly cause cancer in lab rats. There has only been one study on this pertaining to weight loss and it found no evidence it either increased or decreased the metabolic rate. This has been twisted in knots by a number of "health/naturalist" websites as evidence it impedes weight loss or metabolism, but that is simply not true.
  22. @swedishfish1020 Funny my hubby says the EXACT same thing... I think its cute! Stalls

I am in the exact same boat. Weight just flew off of me after my surgery in Aug. '15. The scales just kept going down. Until about a month or so ago. I have been on the EXACT same weight for at least two months. I suppose I can be thankful that I am not going up, but am really frustrated and need to figure out how to get the scale moving again. I've starting exercising every day, but it's not helping. I guess it's time to break down and see the nutritionist. I hate tracking my food, and I know she's going to ask for my food list. That's the only reason I haven't gone sooner. I'm finding that while this surgery is a great tool... there is still a LOT of work you need to do in order to be successful.
