  1. Good luck with ur journey. I was sleeved 11-12-13. I had to do a 6mo thing with my pcp before ins would cover surgery. During that time I lost 15lbs. Morning of surgery I weighed 260. I was very nervous the day before surgery but surprisingly I wasn't too nervous that morning. I had a rough 1st night in recovery threw up/dry heaved all night so I had to stay an extra night but the next day was better. It took me a couple of weeks to feel 100% human again but overall had a good experience. Only issue i have had is i got dehydrated and needed fluids at 3 1/2 weeks out bc i couldnt get enough fluid in. Still having a hard time with that but getting better. At 5 weeks out I got on scale and for 1st time in 15 years the scale was under 250 (I almost cried). I'm at 227 now and so excited to see whats in store for me . I wish u well for ur journey. Good luck!
  2. My gym does weekly weigh ins. I got a print out two weeks ago with all my current progress (weight/body fat/inches/etc) and according to that I've lost almost 52 inches since I had my surgery. They measure upper arm/thigh/hips/waist/bust, so I don't have the individual inches for each thing, but just the all around total for loss is almost at 52 inches. Hoping for more when I do my weigh in on monday!
  3. I know this is probably a question for a nutritionist, but I'm going to throw this out there: I'm beginning to see a correlation between carbs eaten in a day and stalls or even gains. So my question is: how many carbs is "normal" now that I have a new, spiffy sleeve? I know that with the Adkins diet, a 3 week period of 21 carbs/day was suggested. Any ideas?

    Let's talk CARBS!

Each of us has a personal preference. I kept mine under 24 until week 12.. then I upped because I hit my first resting period. Most track everything, so my thought is to track and see where your body is happy while still losing. Eventually you'll have to up them a bit just to keep yourself going.

    plateau already?

I went on vacation this past weekend. Fri- Mon. I ate whatever I wanted. It was mostly ice cream, fried seafood and crab legs. I guess it's obvious I vacayed on the beach. When I got on the scale this morning I was 209!! I cant believe I struggled for a week and finally lost when I was trying the least! I'll take that loss and hopefully I'll be at 207 by Monday.

    plateau already?

I keep reading and reading the average is 1 to 2 pounds per week so looks like you are on target. Are you feeling restriction yet?

Manna hath fallen from the sky!!!!!

Thank goodness!!!! I can eat again. 3/28/07 I went for my 4 week followup and my first meal was Hamburger Steak, mashed potatoes and green beans at The Berryman House. I only at about a 1/4 of my plate. I was able to take some to work the next day for lunch and had enough left for supper but silly me left the plate at work. Oh well. I seem to notice everything is saltier or stronger now. My entire perspective has changed on food in general. Even though I thought I'd die any moment during the liquid diet, I now can say something positive aside of the weight loss came from it. I just have to remember that food is what brought me to this point in my life when making future decisions. :clap2:
  8. I don't like the way I feel after I eat. I'm 10 weeks pot op. Does it get better over time?
  9. Hi, I had my surgery 2 months ago and until I had my 2nd fill last week, I was doing great. I've been reading some of the posts from others, and it's glad to see I'm not the only one experiencing some of these things. I could feel the restriction right after my surgery. My surgeon told me he had put 3 cc in my band. I got to where I could eat almost anything without any problems, just not as much as before. At my first fill, he added another 1cc. I cut back to soft and liquids for a few days after my fill and then I could eat almost anything again (except bread), just less than before. I had my 2nd fill about a week ago, and have noticed a definite restriction. I again went back to soft foods and liquids for several days but haven't noticed any improvement. I tried to eat some eggs, but they got stuck which was a horrible feeling and persisted for a while. I wasn't able to get it to come up. So, I had to suffer through it. I've been very careful since, but everything seems to cause what I can only describe as a spasm like feeling as soon as it hits the bottom of my esophagus. I've tried increasing my fluids, but it doesn't matter what I eat or drink, I get the same feeling. Which is quite uncomfortable. So, I've been drinking/eating hot liquids, thick Soups plus my Protein shakes. I plan to go my surgeon on Monday and have him remove at least part of that last fill. I'm glad I found this site. I have only told a couple of people about my surgery, as this was a very private decision for me. Any other suggestions I should try until I can see my surgeon?
  10. Definitely liquids including protein if at all possible but most importantly do not dehydrate. I have a stricture they just found and wasn't able to keep food or protein down. They were more worried about fluid and sent me to ER to get fluids so that I didn't dehydrate. I am almost 3 months out and without my protein I survived but am definitely hungry and weak. They dilated the stricture and told me to stickbwoth liquids for a week including 2 to 3 protein drinks so in short they worry about both. Do you have a therapist you can call that might help to talk through your situation? I hope it resolves quickly. Do your best Ronstadt healthy so you can get to the other side of your situation.
  11. I can't believe it is one week away. This has been such a long process. It doesn't seem real that I am a week out. Come on April 26th!

    Support groups?

Do any of you go to support groups? I went to one last week and it was a "newbie" class (2 - 12 weeks post-op only). It was basically just questions and answers. The down side was that out of 24 patients there, only 2 were bandsters - the rest were gastric. I felt a little bad at first because the gastric people had lost such GINORMOUS amounts of weight already. But the leader reminded me that you cannot compare the 2 surgeries, and I knew that - but it was hard. They are supposed to start up a bandster group in the near future. I hope they do because I could definately see a difference in the questions being asked. Just wondering if anyone else goes to support groups and what they think of them.
  13. I did the same thing. I am 11 days post and after my one week I hadn't lost a darn thing. I was sorta upset. Then the next couple of days following....wow I was down 2.5 lbs then 2 days later another 3 lbs down. It will start to come off. Just take a deep breath and it el happen. Like it just falls off. Good luck!
  14. 13 pounds down.. pretty excited! Must say was a good week. Pain was tolerable . Another week of liquids then can move on to yogurt . Hope everyone is having a good week.
  15. Submitted to the insurance a week ago today. The waiting game is killing me! My husband lost his job a few weeks ago along with our insurance. So we are paying 1400.00 a month for cobra. We can only afford to do this for 2 months. There is a 2 week turn around wait with insurance. I do not know how I will survive another week!

    NSV - Fun

These are the fun NSVs! One day at about 6 months post op I noticed I was sitting on the bed with my legs crossed Indian style! I hadn't done that since the birth of my youngest son! He is 34 years old! Last week I had another one! Both hubby and I are morbidly obese. Now I am normal, he is still morbidly obese at 285lbs and 5'10". I used to be heavier than him at 310, same height. Anyway we went out to dinner with my son and granddaughter. They are both normal size. We got a booth, I slid in and told hubby to sit next to me. Normally we sir across from one another. I am so small that he fit in with me and we still had a lot of room! We used to have one kid next to each of us! He was in awe when he saw how much room between me and him and me and the table. He looked at me and said you are so tiny I can hardly believe it! I just looked at him and grinned like a Cheshire Cat. He got the good boy award for the day, making me feel so good!
  17. Saw the doc today for my slightly late 6 week appointment. She was happy with my weight loss. I have lost 22% of my excess weight. She told me she wants me to be up to 30% at 3 months. Seems like a lot of weight to lose in four short weeks.
  18. Hi everyone .I'm back again after surviving the first week of liquids I'm now just wondering what it was like for any of you after the surgery . Are the ten days of thin liquids really really hard. I don't know what to expect and would appreciate any feedback you want to give me! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  19. Yikes. I got a call yesterday with a surgery date. I didn't even know the info had been sent in, and frankly I haven't completed all of my stuff. I never met with the psychologist (hoping I won't have to) the nutritionist (will get to it shortly after, I think) etc. It really freaked me out. I am scheduled for August 31st. I am afraid of surgeries and have never had one. My dog died from the anesthesia, though. I'll start the two week diet on Monday, but am wondering which piece prepares the liver. Is it the cutting out of fats or carbs? I am thinking that tomato sandwiches on white bread is the choice for the weekend. Maybe even buy some real mayo. Pathetic, huh??
  20. I hoping my band date will be the end of April. Dr. wants me on 1st stage of South Beach until my next consult. I can't even do one day! I think I'm telling myself that every day is my last meal. Fortunately I'm not gaining, and exercising 3-4 days a week, but every day I start on track and by the time the kids come home from school, something sends me to the pantry. Have others gone through this in the weeks before banding? I would like to get a running start before surgery HELP!
  21. First off congrats! Make sure you do your research, that's what I did. For me it took about a year and a half from start to finish but I had many hiccups along the way. Be sure to check into your insurance and what they require if that's the way you're going. I am about 2 weeks out and can not drink 72oz's of water a day but I'm sure in time I will. I was out of work for 2 weeks but like the previous poster I could of gone back in a week. If you asked me to do this all over I would in a heartbeat. Hope I was of some help!

    Surgery was April 14.

Goldissa, listen to your body. If u start having pain by all means use your pain med. But I wouldn't suggest just taking it out of fear. When they took my pain pump away I was so afraid all the pain was gonna hit me at once. But since then except for some tylenol for my back ( hate sleeping on my back) I ve taken nothing for pain. Pain meds are very useful if u need them but also addicting. When I had my gallbladder out a few years ago I took vicodin every 4 hours but I think it stalled my healing procese. It made me sleepy and lazy lol. But just listen to your body everyone is different. Maybe try waiting 5 hours to see how your feeling. U may surprise yourself
  23. I was a huge lapband failure. I got my band done several years ago, developed an aversion for the doctor, never felt a restriction after 4 fills, dealt with infertility, infertility procedures, adoption procedures, adoption and new child issues. After hearing the doctor I didn't like retired I returned for a fill and faced how ashamed I was to have not succeeded. I kinda demanded a larger fill because I was unsure if I would ever come back based on my previous history. Holy cow I finally felt restriction! WOOT! And I lost weight! Woot! All of this has happened since the last day of July. Currently I am on a plateau after loosing weight very quickly. My band is working and my calories are very much under control. Very much. What are good ideas for getting off of a plateau? Will my continued efforts finally just kick in again? Any hints. I’m working out a bit ( times last week and in a few minutes with weights…although I need to be doing more cardio but I will) I’ve also ordered some protein drinks to help. How well do those protein drinks help?
  24. Anyone else start out having no issue with fluids, like water and start having trouble down the road? I have been able to drink without issue since surgery but in the past week or so, fluids - especially water is very hard for me to get down. I feel nauseas immediately after drinking more than an ounce or two at a time. I was able to drink 64 oz a day easily before, now struggling to get in half that. I am not having much of a difference in what I can eat food wise, seems to just be relative to fluid. Just curious if anyone else experienced this....
