9 Mos Out....cant Eat :( Help!
hollirrose replied to kayte819's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 5 months out... So Im still a newbie and dont have the experience that you and others do. For me, I feel much more restriction on certain days and sometimes for even a few weeks at a time. Right now I am struggling to eat 1 oz of fish. Last week i could have polished that off pretty quickly and feel satisfied ... Not full. I struggle to get in 600 calories a day and my shakes are 160 of those calories. I feel like I eat less and feel full faster then I did in the begining. Be sure and post what your doctor says. Keep us posted! -
3rd Fill and missing food already
1unknownperson replied to 1unknownperson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm happy to hear that you are finally on a good road to recovery... Wow, I can't believe they injured your leg during the banding.... Was it those air bags they strap to you that did it? When I had my Band surgery, I just told everyone I was having the first of two knee surgeries... The Nurse was real nice and bandaged and wrapped my knee all up for me so nobody would be the wiser... I'm still in Physical Therapy and the funny thing is my Therapist is trying to get me to some Unkwn point of mobility and strength in my leg/knee... She keeps pushing for me to do better and more... Right now, I do the Stationary Bike on Level 9 for 30 minutes total and then I do wieght training with my legs and some stuff with a big ball... I can't get her to understand that my leg is already in better shape than before my accident and stronger than it has been in years. LOL... So we keep reaching for more..... I just hate paying the $40.00 co-pay twice a week when I would rather just go use my gym membership and do the same things there... However, she does keep me on track and does not let me cheat... Hehe.... My leg still has twinges of pain now and again, but I'm getting around real good.... -
Ready, Set, Go! Surgery Date 1/7/13- Still Preparing...
AmandaM replied to BrnButrfly2013's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Make sure you have good distractions for the hospital, such as a book, etc. I have been starting to prepare for surgery as well. Mine is in about 4 weeks. I know people say not to stock up on a lot. But I know I need Vitamins and clear fluids and a lot of them. So I am going to bargain shop for my vitamins. We will need them forever, so there's no harm in getting a healthy supply started. Make sure you've got either bottled Water or a reusable water container with ounces marked, so you know how much you're drinking. sugar free popsicles and Jello, etc. For kitchen stuff, make sure you have measuring cups, a food scale, a food processor/blender, a Blender Bottle if you will be drinking Protein on the go or want more convenience, and maybe the small snack size tupperware containers to store meal servings. Good luck! -
Can Drinking stop Weight loss
NYMoMof3 replied to BABYDOLL110's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wine turns to sugar once processed and will be primarily stored as belly fat. So it will slow down your weight loss. Since we are so limited on what we could consume, they want us to choose wisely. Think of it this way a small bottle of wine is about 500 calories (~90 calories a glass), if you drank a bottle a day you would gain 1 lb a week. Ive cheated to and I spoke to a nutrionist, she said to make sure you drink a glass of Water after each glass of wine if I feel I absolutely have to drink when I go out. Dont drink spritzers, I had one and the carbination made me foam at the mouth, it was so scary. I went away for 4 days and drank a few glasses, my weight loss was only 1.5 that week, as oppossed to 7lbs the week before. Good Luck -
Better ask your doctor. If you have to pick up small children, I would say four to six weeks.

Experience with flying home after WLS
smkeller replied to HollyB.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I waited a week before flying home, but I am a little older than most. I wanted to give myself every chance I could. I think that people rush this thing: get there, get it done, get home and on with life. I advise slowing the process down if you can. Spend a couple of days in a nice hotel - if you afford it: I got to stay with a local Mexicali family who provided an air conditioned room with TV and homemade chicken broth for only fifty bucks a night! This made me feel not only cared for but secure in the knowledge that my doctor, and the hospital, were only a mile away. . Also, I got mild tranquilizers (Lorazepam 1mg) from my PCP and then more in Mexico to help me sleep along with the pain meds. Really, really helped with the initial discomfort. ALSO, I took the advice of a poster who said definitely get wheelchair assistance on your flight back. Wonderful, wonderful advice. I didn't have to shuffle along security lines and boarding lines. It makes you a little self conscious, but just groan and slouch from time to time if you need to. Email me if you want more on my experience. -
Sorry you only read my initial post and not my clarifications down below. I got a .5 cc unfill because I couldn't eat solid food. I was going to go on my cruise in that state, but it gets embarassing when I throw up anything more solid than cream of wheat and usually the cream of wheat also. I agree, I wouldn't open up the restriction to just be able to eat MORE...but to just be able to eat PERIOD. It wasn't a good post. I just keep my restriction too tight because I am driven to reduce my weight. It is counterproductive and I didn't loose any more weight during that last week though I lost 7 pounds the week before. Sorry for the confusion.

I started off not telling anyone, I kept it a secret for about 2 weeks before I found it too hard because I'm out and about a lot. I try not to eat anything that I haven't eaten before in public. EVERYONE (friends,co-workers and family)I have told about my having the op are surprisingly supportive and think its fantastic I took such a huge step towards wanting to better myself. I am glad I don't have to hide it anymore. I of course don't tell anyone if I don't have to though.

Starting the process to get Sleeved
former_vbg posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just found this site about a week ago and have found it SOOOO helpful. Not only in reading so many people's experiences, challenges and even some of the negative. Reading about the statistics available which appear to be limited since the Sleeve is still considered fairly new for historical data, but when I did the VBG so long ago, the internet wasn't really a tool to do research like this and I just went with what the surgeon suggested. The other issue is there wasn't any post-op support outside of clinical surgery follow ups from his office. I did manage to loose probably 70% of the weight I had hoped, it has come back over the years. I'm not blaming the surgeon, just wish that there had been support groups and a referral to a nutritionist back then because I think if I had access to someone to help me learn a better lifestyle choices, I may have had a better long term outcome. I never even thought about being able to go through another WLS because my surgeon told me back then, this was a "one shot deal". I believed him. Then, a friend who had the lap band a couple years ago said I should look into it and see what my options might be. Since then, I contacted her surgeon and started the process a couple months ago. They told me first I would need to get my medical records from that surgery which took FOREVER... Finally got them last week. I called this morning and now they are mailing me out a packet to fill out and send in for the surgeon to review to see if he thinks I am a surgical candidate. I had hoped I could just bring the medical records in for him to look at with a office consult, but unfortunately not. I also called my insurance company this morning (Aetna PPO) and they cover ALL of the WLS procedures (Sleeve, Lapband, RnY, DS, and something else she called Pancreatic something). I was a bit shocked. What's kind of weird though is even though it was just a phone conversation, I was nervous about calling. Not just because I was afraid of being said it wasn't covered, but just having to ask the question to a stranger wondering what that person would think. Oh well... I would like to loose about 100 to 120#, think my BMI is 35. I'm really starting to get excited about getting things back on track!! This website is awesome! -
I too am leaving for the hospital in 20 short minutes. I am so ready for this! All of the doubts I have beeen feeling in the last few weeks are all completely gone this morning. Funny, I just know I am doing the right thing. Good Luck with your band and I will talk to you later.

Well, I wanted to get this journal started before surgery mostly so I could record every single thing that happens so maybe it might help someone along the line. Well, since my insurance (Anthem) didnt want to help my husband is paying for this himself. I'm going to Dr. Sanchez in Monterrey Mexico. I feel really good about my surgeon and hospital and staff and am looking very forward to getting on with this. I won't lie, like anyone having any surgery I am a little apprehensive but that's normal. I wonder if something will go wrong but I've got to leave it in God's hands. I am 41 and have 2 children and one new beautiful granddaughter (Briana) and a fabulous, fabulous, wonderful husband of 24 years and I'm not ready to leave them yet. They all mean the WORLD to me. I am going to the preop diet for about a week or so even though it's not required just to help with the liver during surgery. I think I've got all of my affairs in order and everything done and bought. I have made a really good friend who will be banded the same day as I Amy (Funny) and I'm looking forward to meeting her and her husband and us starting this journey together. Wep, that's all for now. Will write more later. Goodbye.

Half-Way There!
Ms skinniness replied to whataloser's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a little over half way there but am in a horrible stall, or my body is just resting. Only 30 lbs to go and I will get there. CONGRATS and keep up the good work! -
It's hard to believe when it's happening to you, but stalls do break. This first one lasted for 10 days. I dropped 2 pounds overnight. Let's see how long the loosing lasts.
-
Well, I took a break from my journal it looks like. But It's time to refocuss on it. I had a mini vacation at the lake, ate too much and didn't get much exercise. I've slacked in exercise for the past few weeks, its time to get back in gear! What am I thinking? My cruise is in 24 more days!!!!!! I am still fat as ever! Wt - 177.9 - I've gone up a few pounds Menu today - Bfast bowl of fresh fruit Lunch artichoke nectarine grapes (weird lunch I know - but I've had the weirdest craving lately) Dinner - Tuna Exercise - 45 min on elliptical

Whilst laying awake last night, I started to do a bit of self-analysis (keep those gutter minds out of the sewers please!) and examine my psyche a little bit. It's amazing how overworked my mind becomes when I go to bed ("hit the sack" for all you States-side peeps out there). Amongst many other world-changing theories and famine-busting mental dissertations, I stumbled across my new hobby - which I believe will be a good enough one to serve as my emotional crutch when my "eat the food, eat the plate, eat the table" endorphin-driven support has been removed at the end of the month. It reminded me of what I tend to do when I purchase something on the Internet that will take weeks to arrive - I go back the site where I bought it and look at the picture. A few hours later, I go to the manufacturer's site and download a brochure and read that. The next day, I go hunting for pictures of it on Google and browse those. Then I go to other sites that sell it and read more reviews...and this continues ad-infinitum until the damn thing arrives just to help me pass the shopaholic yearning. That's what keeps me excited about what-ever it is that is arriving (most lately, I'm proud to say it was an elliptical trainer - now there's a first for me!). That is exactly what I am doing now. I am preparing for my purchase in two weeks time (Lap Banded on 27th). I am reading reviews and visiting sites like this and taking in the stories of others who have bought it. When I eventually buy it, I will know that UPS will take their time delivering...in fact, I am going to have to do an awful lot of the driving and lugging myself. It will probably take two years to get here. But I will continue to read the amazing stories and see the awe-inspiring before & after pictures that you guys post here - all just to see me through to the day when mine is finally delivered. For me, it's going to be a relatively private affair until I can get my head around the life-changes that will no doubt occur after surgery - but people like you, who post stories along the way - before, during and after - are the people that are starting to replace my lifelong friend & enemy, food. I raise a glass of my pre-op-diet water to the founder of this site and further raise the entire bottle to all of you who contribute. Cheers! What Is The Normal Time Period Between Fills? Some Say They Go Back The Next Week, Others Say They Dont Feel Restricted Until A Week After A Fill. My Insurance Has Time Limits On Fills. So Many Within So Many Days, That Is Why Im Asking.......

Congratulations! I am so looking forward to new clothes. I always wanted to order them, but everything I liked went to a size 16. I was just banded on Oct. 8 so I am only a week in, but am hoping to be wearing them sometime soon. I have had an extremely hard week emotionally and am hoping that it will get better and hear a good story helps.

Well I my doc lets you fill up every 3 weeks. And that I am pretty happy about but I kinda wish it was more like 2 weeks then I would be able to get to my "sweet spot" even faster than what I am!

Thanks guys for the responses. My girls are going to be 10 and 5, they are from China and we worked very hard to get them! I probably need to resign myself that I will need to wait and that it would be the best idea. I've waited since Nov of last year...what is a few more weeks? Thanks again, Tracy W.

I would do the party stuff first....Just in case you aren't feeling well... do you want the kids' memories to be mom sick at their party? Maybe make it your last hurrah. I know you are anxious, but you have waited all this time.. what's a couple more weeks?
