  1. Congratulations on your revision. From what I know, a friend told me, the gastric bypass works faster. Welcome to the group, a lot of good information here.

    Rebanding

It does in Australia with lots of surgeons. They often wont consider self pay for uninsured patients but charge a "gap" fee of a couple of thousand dollars - mine is $3,000 and it covers forever all follow up visits, all fills and any revision surgery. They wont do self pay because if revision surgery is needed it quickly can get to mortgage your house levels of cost and they also insist you keep your private health insurance - no taking it out, waiting 12 months, having the op and then dropping it. Australia's health system is way different though.

    Need advice / apprehensive

I had my revision on June 1 so I'm 2 weeks out. I am totally happy so far. With the band I was throwing up all the foods I was supposed to eat and was eating anything that would stay down so I was gaining. After 3 months of trying to get the band adjusted my surgeon and I made the decision to switch. I've lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks. So far I have had zero instances of throwing up or nausea or anything and I have been able to tolerate a lot of foods. I haven't found anything that is bothering me yet. My surgeon used the same incisions as the band so I don't have new incisions. He took the band out and did the sleeve in the same surgery. I was in the hospital for two days and then home. No complications at this point.

    cereal

Hi SB, You will be able to eat anything just in small amounts. The more I hear about the lapband the more I think it sucks!! You should be able to eat meat when your tummy has healed. I can eat 4 oz of steak, have to chew it well and not scarf it down mind you In fact eating meat will keep you fuller for longer than cereal will which will just slide through. You should be aiming to create a feeling of fullness so you don't feel empty and deprived all the time. After the 1st week on clear liquids, 2nd week on heavier liquids you move onto mushy food like soft scrambled eggs. The you should see the restriction/fullness effect start. After 4 weeks you can be a little more adventurous, after 6 weeks you tummy should be healed. Tiffykins posted a good diet sheet at http://www.iabsobesitysurgery.com/Media/Forms/SleeveDietGuide.pdf which should help. Also be aware that different surgeons have different pre and post op diet advice. There are lost of people here who have revised from band to sleeve so just read, read, read the forums  Jane x
  6. I would ask the surgeon's rate of erosion/slippage/revision. That's something few surgeons I came across was willing to disclose, and that was always a bit of an eyebrow raiser to me. Other than things that are surgeon or program-specific, you can probably find out more information in an hour online than everyone else there will know, put together.

    Leak

I had what I term to be a persistent leak. I had two port replacements (both unsuccessful at stopping the leak) because I was leaking 'slowly' so they were sure it wasn't the actual band. I went through a period of being very disillusioned (and gaining weight) before deciding that someone had better listen to me or else. 2 months ago I had a full band replacement. They never did discover where my band was leaking from despite a barium swallow, and now I'm finally experiencing restriction that 'sticks'. The leak was considered a band fault and not a patient fault and therefore my revision (as well as my port replacements) were covered by my insurance. The fact that I was consistently losing Fluid from my band - to me- meant that there was proof that the band was leaking. I didn't think they needed to actually locate the leak for them to fix it.
  8. I'm 5'3 and started at 287.5 week before surgery. I gained 18 lbs while in the hospital. Went to the one month appointment with the NP yesterday and have lost 28.5 lbs. NP was thrilled b/c I was lapband to sleeve revision and she said that weight loss was awesome b/c usually lapband to sleeve revisions lose slower. Labwork was perfect too. I'm hoping that this keeps up!

I recently had a band revision after my first band failed, as of today I have had my first 5 cc fill, and I still haven't lost any weight. I am very discouraged does anyone have any ideas of how to help me begin to start losing the weight
  10. I had a revision from band to bypass and it has been great! No more stuck feeling and vomiting. Absolutely, no reflux after surgery! It's a great feeling and I healed much faster after bypass than the band for some reason. Although, I didn't have a lot of energy for awhile. I am so excited for you and I pray you will get the approval. If you do not get approved have your doctor so a Pier to Pier (I think that's what it is called). The doctor will schedule to talk to insurance for you & plead your case. (:
  11. My evil scale just got a pardon. I was ready to commit it to a watery grave (the pool) but it decided to actually go DOWN in numbers- finally! I had revision from a band to a sleeve on April 20th and for the last week had been stuck in the dreaded stall. Thanks to the wonderful advice of the members on this site I kept to plan- Protein, fluids and exercise. So here we go- this is the first time I'm posting actual numbers.... Surgery weight- 177 Current weight- 159 Goal weight- 140 I can honestly say this surgery has changed my life. I have unbelievable energy and feel fantastic. My kids are loving the mom that plays badminton in the evenings and da hubby loves that I want to run errands instead relying on my team of monkey butlers from Amazon to deliver things to my door. Yey me!! I know that there will be some hard work down the road but I'm glad that there is this site to keep me motivated and inspired. My scale just snickered at me... Yep it's still a jerk. The battle is ON!! Take care everyone. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    RNY or DS?

I don't know enough about DS.In late December I got a revision from lapband to bypass...very happy with bypass so far but it is early. You need a highly skilled surgeon for these procedures.

Welcome to LapBandTalk! I'm surprised about Aetna since their revision policy is pretty generous. Did you have a WLS exclusion?
  14. Kat, how close to your goal weight were you when you tried for the revision?? My weight is what scares me right now. I'm afraid they may turn me down because I weigh like 165 now but surely they will take into account that I started out at 235 right?
  15. I'm trying to get a revision. I got my band 3 years ago. I've lost all but 15 pounds so I'm barely overweight now. Do you think insurance will gripe about that?? My insurance has the easiest bariatric process ever so I'm hoping not. They do not require a six month diet or medical records: only a letter from the surgeon stating your current diagnoses and health problems. It only took them 4 days to approve my initial band.

    Hi! New here!

Hey y'all! I am so glad to hear your stories. I was banded October 2013, the too loose/ too tight yo-yo for over a year, emptied March 2015 for 6 weeks for a concentric slip, refilled, too loose/ too tight again yo-yo for another year, then the emergency room in distress April 2016. Thankfully un-filling was enough to relieve the distress, but in testing they found again, my band has slipped. My insurance has approved the sleeve revision for 2 June, this Thursday. I am currently on my day 8 of 10 days of pre-op liquids and looking forward to what my future holds. The band gave me restriction of portions, but I was always hungry. I am happy with the loss of weight I was able to keep off with my band, but my excitement has been renewed because I am sure I can get off a considerable amount more. I keep checking back to this site for all the information I can get. It is really good to hear stories that I can relate to. Thank you for posting about yours!

    Puzzled

How does a person know when they have to go back to surgeon for revision?
  18. :confused1::confused1: Am I eating too much???? B - 12 oz of coffee w/scoop of Protein slice of bread w/peanut butter S - 1/2 of grapefruit L- small side salad about 1 1/2 cup of lettuce - I wasnt able to finish it all (almost) I was three months out on 3/11. Did my stomach stretch out of place already? If so is it possible to have a sleeve revision to a smaller pouch? T
  19. Well my shake is 30 grams of protein, so two of those is 20 grams more protein than 2 quest bars. Right now I am eating 3 meals a day and two protein Snacks. I think I probably need to eat mostly meat for my meals because my stomach capacity is about 3 ounces of food per meal before I feel too full and I do try and include vegetables as often as I can. So usually I have about 1.5-2 ounces of meat and then some veggies. I guess.. and I never thought I would say this, I'm eating too many vegetables. My goal for protein is 80 grams/day. But I revised that recently after reading a post here to 80-100/day. My problem, really, is that I don't always calculate protein before eating, or even before the end of the day. So I think I just need to pay closer attention and make sure to have at least one shake per day. Like yesterday, for two of my meals I had shrimp, but I only had 4 large shrimp at each meal and MFP tells me that's only 4.6 grams of protein/meal. Whoops! My total protein for yesterday was 61 and that was after going home and having an extra snack to bring it up from 51. I left one of my bars at home so that was even more disastrous than usual. But if I hadn't forgotten and eaten the bar, by the time I got home I would have still only been at 71 grams and 9 away from goal.
  20. Seems like no one does revisions in the Huntsville Alabama region Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I am new at the possible thought of band to sleeve revision and have my first appt next week. I am assuming your "bougie" is the size of your stomach after the surgery is performed?? I guess, much like the "pouch" with the band?? What are the different sizes of "bougies" and what is the qualifications to determine such??? Thanks!! Deb

    Failure

I too have been failing. I went to a surgeon on Friday with the intent of going from band to sleeve and he refuses to do the revision. So, I have had a good look at what I eat and have came to grips that the slider foods MUST GO. I have stocked my fridge with tuna again and I began riding my bike again. I work nights and therefore will be riding my bike for an hour minimal upon coming home every morning. If the weather ever straightens out here to where I can ride to work, I will take the long way home in the mornings. I work in a distribution center and so I felt that exercise was not the issue, but evidently, it is. I need to ride again in order to get my metabolism moving again. I have lost 3 pounds since Friday. So am hopeful with this current mind set and a plan in place, follow through and I should be successful in keeping the scale going in the right direction. I was very close to goal when I lost my "vision" and am told this happens quite frequently. I pray that I am on the right track again and that everyone finds their "right track" soon. Have a great one!!

    *~Open Letter to Family & Friends~*

Open letter to family & friends, The reason I am writing this open letter. Is because someone told me I should write Admin(on a different site) about my successful weight lose story and I had someone else send me a personal email telling me I was an inspiration to her. My MAIN goal to have this weight loss surgery was to stop my Diabetes in its tracks from doing any more harm to my body. Which I have done! I have been considered NOT A DIABETIC for almost two years!(My A1C has been normal.) Losing the weight was just a bonus. The reason I do not like to be classified as a mentor or an inspiration is because I feel pretty much that I didn't do anything to lose 160lbs!( I know that by cutting my food intake by 3/4 has been the reason why.) I still have this its to good to be true mentality and I am still waiting for the other shoe. I was banded 5/14/02. I was in the hospital for a week due to being so swollen that I couldn’t even swallow my own spit.( Lost 20lbs in that week.) I was losing about 10lbs a month. At six months I had lost 100lbs. I have never really followed the “Bandster Rules”, or exercised like I should have. (One being because I had other problems that hindered me from doing exercise.) I do walk regularly and swim occasionally. I don’t drink the Protein drinks.(My doctor says we should get our protein from the food we eat.) I don’t take my Vitamins. On my fourth week of all liquids I had an whole taco & Enchilada with all the fixings. I lived off of Water, Pecan Sandies, and Doritos for the first three months. (That was about all I could keep down!) I was the MAIN PB Queen. (I still have issues with that. THANK GOD my band has not slipped! Since June my weight has gone as low as 209 and as high 228. Due to a broken port, then the port revision, and an until in Dec. I have fallen into the “Soft Food Syndrome” since Jan. I know that I will REALLY have to work to lose these last 50lbs.or I will NEVER get under 200. If I am an to be a role model to pre Ops and those already banded it is to be a role model of what not to do. XOXO~Teresa
  24. Welcome to the boards Rhonda there are several on here who have had the revision or are in the process of getting it. Stay away from the crap food and you won't dump. Rny is a tool to help you lose weight. The things I worry about is getting all my protein in and exercising. It will all come together... Again welcome to the boards!!
  25. That's the bill I got from the hospital and surgeons for moving my band back into place after a slip. I had been too tight for months and threw up WAY too often. My insurance will not pay a dime. I'm going to have to fight like hell and hope that I can at least negotiate with the hospital and doctors. Please, learn from my very expensive, dangerous mistake. Wow, I just realized my second bandiversary was Monday. Yeah!! One other word to those considering this, in my opinion, even if it cost $60,000, I'd do it again a thousand times. It's still worth it. Much success, Laura D. 243/145/140 DOB 10/1/05 Dr. Kuri
