    Limited menu, help

Can you have strained soups? Split pea soup with a scoop of genepro protein powder has been great for me as well as the ricotta cheese bake recipe that everyone talks about. Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253
  2. A thermos that keeps food warm or cold should help, along with an insulated lunch kit. Refried beans, tuna “salad” made with tuna and light mayo/yogurt and puréed, soups, shakes, yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese bake Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253

    Exercise if you can't move

There are lots of chair based exercises you can do. A quick Google search should turn up quite a few. Arm raises, calf raises, bicep curls, etc. Good for you for wanting to start out with good habits! Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253
  4. I would ask to speak to a patient relations representative before you leave. Document everything, everyone’s name who comes in your room and what they do. I’m sorry this has happened to you! Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253

  6. ABSOLUTELY THE BEST DECISION I EVER MADE! STAFF WAS AWESOME I IMMEDIATELY FELT AMAZING BETTER THAN I HAD FELT IN A YEAR. I WAS UP AND MOVING I COULDN'T CONTAIN MYSELF. Juanito Palomo WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST. MY DOCTOR EVEN CAME TO SEE ME AFTER DISCHARGE. I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT MY REVISION, THE DOCTOR, THE STAFF, BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE
  7. Hi! This is one of the more common weight loss surgery revisions performed, in the US and Mexico. We charge $5100, everything included. Check out https://bariatricpalhospitalmx.com/weight-loss-surgeries/revision-surgery/ for more info.
  8. I'm considering having a revision surgery from lap band to the gastric sleeve. I really want to have the procedure done in Mexico but after the fear of having the surgery in another country comes the out of pocket cost for this particular surgery. Is there anyone out there who's experience both?

    Information

My surgery was 12/18/17. No regrets at all! I feel better every day. The only thing is, I tire out easily. I was extremely tired after a trip to the doc and nutritionist a week post op. It’s a 2 hour drive one way. Also, because I was a revision from lap band to Bypass, my surgery was 5 hrs long due to scar tissue and my surgeon took his time and didn’t rush things to get it done properly. That last was from his PA. She is impressed with his patience in surgery. That’s exactly what you want in a surgeon! I was on full liquids the first week with no issues. After my first post op, I was able to advance to soft, puréed foods. That’s working out well too. I won’t lie to you, that evening after surgery, I was sore. Obviously, my stomach hurt, it hurt to move! I had right shoulder pain from gas they put in your stomach for surgery. But the nurses I had were awesome and experienced in dealing with Bariatric patients. Even thought they came in during the night to check vital, I still got a good sleep. Felt so much better the next day. I walked, sat up on the chair for 3 hours and was able to eat jello. I saw my doctor, nutritionist and his PA all before going home. I hope this is as the information you were looking to get. My highest weight 309, I do not have my surgery day weight, thinking it was about 301. According to the doc’s office 1 week our 290! I’m happy with my results. I haven’t stepped on the scale, but plan to every Tuesday. I would be happy to answer any questions for you. Good luck on your decision.
  10. "The patient is a 39 year-old woman who initially underwent laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass in 2001. A revision was then performed in 2003 for suboptimal weight loss, where the gastric pouch was revised and a Silastic band was placed to the distal gastric pouch. She then underwent revision to a distal gastric bypass. She developed symptoms of reflux and also had weight recidivism. Endoscopy demonstrated stenosis of the distal gastric pouch at the location of the Silastic band. She was taken to the operating room for conversion sleeve gastrectomy, removal of the Silastic band, and hiatal hernia repair. " None of this applies to the OP. Again...No. To remedy severe complications experienced with other weight loss surgeries...it's a rare possible option. For simple lack of weight loss, it is accurate to say that there is no surgeon alive who would convert RNY to sleeve. So again, No. Just No.
  11. I forgot to address this aspect of the original poster's question. Revision from bypass to sleeve is possible. In fact, it's been performed on a few occasions. However, revision to a less potent surgical tool is usually ineffective. https://www.sages.org/meetings/annual-meeting/abstracts-archive/revision-of-roux-en-y-gastric-bypass-to-sleeve-gastrectomy-and-hiatal-hernia-repair/
  12. Welcome. Why would you want to revise from a more powerful surgery (gastric bypass) to a less powerful one (the sleeve)? I'm attempting to make sense out of it. I'm pleased with my sleeve. However, I lost 41 pounds at 4 months out. You're 4 months out and lost 40 pounds. What do you think will happen by converting from bypass to sleeve? I'd give your bypass a chance to work. Revision is risky business. Good luck to you.
  13. Me neither, but just as every other medical therapy on this planet doesn't work in 100% of the cases with 100% success it's not realistic to expect 100% of WLS patients being 100% successful. I think most surgeons have a way more distant and neutral view of this treatment method than most patients. The patient's view seems to be loaded with emotions (no surprise here) and that is reflected on this board as well. It's never the treatment method that fails, it's always the patient who isn't strong enough, disciplined enough, motivated enough if goal weight isn't 100% or 100% maintained for the rest of life. This is very interesting because we used to be the same with diets. Then came the "diets don't work" movement along, backed up scientifically. And then as a last resort there is WLS - it's kind of depressing to accept that this last resort treatment isn't 100% fool proof either. It's easier to blame the fellow patients because it's quite frightening to think about the fact that you yourself might be one of the patients where it doesn't work 100%. And this sword of doom looms above your head for a very long time, if not forever. You always worry and if it's only in that little chamber in the back of your brain: "Will I be able to get down to a normal BMI?", "Will I be able to maintain my weight loss?", "Will I regain everything I lost or most of it?", "I simply can't accept even a slight gain or I'm a failure", "Will I be able to function on this high level of discipline and vigilance for the rest of my life?", "What about my 15 h per week exercise program when I suffer a serious injury and have to pause for several months?", "Am I really doomed to always follow a rigid diet for the rest of my life?" I dunno - maybe after having had surgery almost 17 years ago now and having had one revision and adhesiolysis I tend to see things differently than I had 10 or 15 years ago. I went through quite a few things during these years, including some regain when I stopped smoking, being obsessed with clean eating, exercise addiction before several sports related ailments stopped me in my tracks and being just burnt out from all the above. This is why I'm convinced that we should strive for a sustainable middle ground when it comes to eating and exercise and I can't see that much on the various WLS boards so I'm still searching for a place to settle down. Maybe it's because there aren't much people around whose surgery lies back so many years. Here you are a "veteran" after you're - what? - 18 months out IIRC. I personally think this is not a very long time out. Also being 2 or 3 years out is not much. I'm not sure how I can bring my point across without sounding like a total ass. Think about long term relationships maybe. All the couples who're together for 5,10,15,20,25 years or longer will know what I'm talking about when I say "that's not a very long time".

    Weight Regain After Gastric Sleeve

So once you get to your limit on the bread, how do you feel? Are you just full? Does it hurt? Do you feel nauseous? Sorry for all the questions - I'm a band to VSG revision - with my band, when I ate something I shouldn't (or didn't chew enough) food would get stuck and it hurt. Bad. Sometimes had to make my self throw up. Thanks!
  17. I was sleeveed Nov. 23rd, which was a revision from Lapband that was removed in July. I did great drinking post surgery and then mushy foods. I have lost 17 pounds but have been in a stall for a week and a half. With the lap band, I had a lot of regurgitation due to a slipped band. Now with the sleeve, I will eat small portions of meat, I am usually hungry, so I am thinking I am eating quicker than I should, I have been chewing thoroughly or so I thought, but usually 10-15 minutes later, I have the need to throw-up as if I ate too much, and it does come up. How do you know when you are full and how long are you taking to eat cut up meat? I am not on normal foods and slowly and trying to add in. I noticed I am not getting in all of my liquids since adding back in some normal foods as it takes about an hour + before I can start drinking again. How do you differentiate b/w head hunger and actual hunger? I know these are newbie questions, but I think the lapband created this PTSD with the vomiting, lol. I am going to start logging my food and was thinking of trying the KETO diet too. Any thoughts, tips, recommendations would be appreciated!

    BMI 27

I had a Lapband emergency revision to gastric bypass on July 5th. At the time of my surgery, my BMI was 29.5 and is now 23.5. I am down 37lbs. It doesn’t sound like a lot but for my starting weight it is. I was in a tight size 14 and am now beginning to fit into a 6. I don’t need to lose more than 5-7 lbs. So, to answer your question, yes! The sleeve and gastric bypass are much more effective and so much easier to eat without getting sick and in pain all of the time.

    January bypass buddies??

I'm doing a revision from sleeve to RNY too. My original sleeve was 5 years ago and I gained back almost all my weight.

Ok, how long to go down a trouser size?

Can’t wait for that! I remember with the gastric band (which I just revised to a bypass) I went from a 18DD to a 14DD pretty much exactly when I crossed the BMI ‘obese’ down to BMI ‘overweight’. A month to six weeks away, I reckon... YAY! Good breasts are a wonderful thing, but I like mine better when they don’t feel like a matron bossom!

    Bypass , sleeve, lapband?

let's stop dealing in generalities and put some numbers to this, backed by research. 25% of RNY patients will ever experience dumping syndrome. and of those 25%, most actually LIKE the symptom because it helps them avoid bad food. whereas 40% of sleeve patients will develop mild to severe GERD that they did not have before surgery. of those, 0% enjoy this symptom and leads to this message board being flooded with posts of sleevers going back to revise to RNY.

    Bypass , sleeve, lapband?

you have two very different options here... 1 - you get the lap-band. it fails. you go get a revision surgery to the sleeve. it fails. you go back for a third surgery to go to the RNY bypass, which works excellently for the rest of your life. 2 - you get the RNY bypass, which works excellently for the rest of your life.

    Any January 2018 Sleevers?

ME TOO!!! I just got my date today!! I am SOOOO excited!! My pre-op tests are on 1/16. Now I just have to hope that insurance approves it! January 29th can't come soon enough! ETA: I'm being revised from band to sleeve. I'm hoping he can do it all in one surgery, but he warned me that it may have to be done in two parts, depending upon how nasty things are in there (scar tissue and such).
